You really forgot didnt you, Z?
In the bathroom...the cable from the original SHP9500 is IN the bathroom
Nah, after he ended that vid he likely threw the cable out the window at the fiddler.
Watching a video about the SHP9500 with a modmic while wearing a SHP9500 with a modmic.
Headphoneception is real.
Same!
sadly though the modmic sucks. Sounds over processed, and i much prefer the mic on my $23 SA-902. though, those aren't comfortable...so great for short recordings heh.
I guess it could be an unpopular opinion, based on the like-dislike ratio, but I really hated that you talked so much about dacs and microphones and other headphones and even recommended the philips headphones, when I just wanted to know about the SHP9500 and SHP9500s comparison.
Picked a set of those up for 50$ and the boom pro because it sounds better than a modmic. 50$!!!! crazy. Such a good gaming headset.
We have 3 of the originals and the Vmoda mikes in the house...lol Make sure you hook up the SHP9500's to some real power at least once. They are really good for music as well. Had mine since the original review and have really enjoyed them, especially for the money. Unbeatable.....
I really need to get a decent dac/amp. Maybe the one he showed in this video. I'm not a big spender on stuff like this, but I like to get the best I can within my budget, for a gaming headset there is none better than this combo, I've tried so many. The only other set I liked was Hyperx cloud 2's, but those are closed and the mic is only so so. I think it's removable though, so plugging in a boompro would be a possibility.. hmmm..
Yes, another huge benefit is the fact that they are open backed. It allows you to be aware of your environment and I rarely sweat in mine and they are very comfortable no doubt about it... I would definitely look into getting a dac amp combo or something like it that is on the cheap side. If you have a PS you could use the optical for that purpose, just not on the mic....but single player games would be amazing, like Horizon: ZERO DAWN.
Now that you did these, you gotta do X2 "vintage" vs X2HR
He finally did, two years after your comment.
lol
for those of you still wondering the only difference is the wire change, the headphone still says SHP9500 on the inside of the headband, so the headphones are identical, just a new wire.
I got my SHP9500s' today and damn, they sound amazing. My first open headphones. I thought the bass would be light, but it's perfect. To think they'll sound even better after being properly broken in is just WOW. Using a Denon AVR-S530BT headphone out to amp them right now (USB -> Coax -> Denon). Loving it.
I already have had that cheap dac and shp9500 combo for like a year, and I love it. So glad i randomly found that dac in a vid and u approved the combo.
Bought these on crazy sale with the Syba Sonic Amp/DAC that you have in the description of this video and couldn't be more happy, thank you. Please review the Syba Sonic Amp/DAC for future consumers!
Thank you Z I bought the shp9500s for around $52 US dollars and the v moba this was around 4 months ago and they were really good.
So glad for this video. I got the S. Had them for over a year. And they are stil going strong. Only thing is the little cloth strap broke. Gonna get another pair soon.
Have that Syba Sonic DAC/amp, it’s quite decent and really feature-rich, and I love that it has both a 1/4” and 1/8” jack so I never need an adaptor for any of my headphones.
Have you used a microphone through it? I want to know if there's any static/noise via the Syba because the reviews on Amazon don't really help since they don't specify what product when there's multiple on it
THE mic works like magic mate! no static/noise.. and this is coming from a guys that was using the mic jack coming straight from an ASUS Maximus VIII and the syba is waaaay better :D hope it helps
Thanks for the response! I am on an older system, sandy bridge mobo and all that, so i'm expecting different results based on that if any but i wanted some reassurance.
my audio technica 500x is dying a slow death from use...
decided to replace it... randomly stumbled upon this video... to lazy to actually research, got both this and that cheap DAC a coming...
I put some faith in you random internet person, don't let me down.
TheKillerKlok so... How is it?
You chose a pretty fucken decent random internet person to put faith in when buying headphones tbh
Well, how are they?
Sound quality out of the box, not great, with EQ Decent, Comfort = Best in class.
@@TheKillerKlok Thanks man, appreciate the response!
Just ordered a pair of these, a SMSL M3 and a high quality 3.5mm to 1/4" cable. I've been watching your vids for a few hours, thanks for all the great info.
just received the shp9500. Compared to my the shp9500s, yes phillips did go a bit cheaper in both build quality and sound. The plastic on the 9500 feels better and sturdier making it slightly heavier compared to 9500s and as for the sound goes, 9500 overall tone sounds a tad fuller. Best of all, 9500 pads can be replaced much easier due to detachable plastic ring.
Hey friend! Can u tell about build quality of them? I just struggling with headphones when i hear cracking/plastic sounds while i move my head. Did u hear something like this while using them?
both the 9500 and 9500s don't exhibit any cracking/plastic sound during use. At least mine don't. After careful listening, I have to say the mids of 9500s sound better but that could be because the 9500 is not broken yet. @@P3lusio
Which one do you suggest . Shp9500 or 9500s for sound quality. Is there a difference?
@@itellsri shp9500
Zeos please do Syba Sonic DAC/Amp review, it is rich in features, but does it even improve anything? for Ω32-150ohm headphones, like SHP9500, CB-1, M40X, Fostex T50RP and Fidelio X2 really interested if this cheapie is worth it, for everyday speakers and headphones combo. Or a bit more advanced brother M-Audio Super DAC. Really love SMSL M3, but it lacks features, would get Origen+ but it is not available in EU. VOTE UP GUYS, Cheers.
megumin just chilling
thesadprofesso megumin just dying
SchaMmyyy she's not dead, there was just an EXPLOSION recently.

Today is the first time I listen to my SH9500, and I cried with the first song I listen to using it. My god it's actually so good.
The hype is real. Appreciate the insight and glad to have found a nice inexpensive set of open cans that produce the type of sound I’ve been searching for. These paired with a Fiio A3 are a great combo, quick flip of the bass boost switch on certain types of music and it’s all you need. Enjoy your videos, keep it up.
Love your reviews. Been wanting to get new headphone so watching these are very helpful.
I'm thinking of getting Philips SHP9500s or Audio Technica M40X still researching, but really like the reviews on philips plus price is nice.
FirstLTRipvanWinkle M40X is more versatile and you can get away with using them on the go, I'd decide literally JUST whether you can use open backs. They're both absolutely amazing, but closed vs open. Let that be the deciding factor.
I'm watching this video wearing SHP9500s, and with stock cable, which is fine IMO.
now the real question is... how about the Fidelio X2HR? did they fuck that up?
Yes pls! And: original X2s are still available for ~100 bucks less. Which ones to buy? X2 or X2HR?
Minor comfort change + Hi Res sticker. Buy original X2 and save $100+
Kien Han that's what i've been hearing. originals are almost always out of stock on amazon though
themightyseahorse where are you finding X2s for sale? I can't find them anywhere other than eBay
themightyseahorse yoww! Where can u buy orig x2 for 100$?
Ok, my only thought is that if someone doesn't mind some highs, the DT-990 make great open back gamers. I prefer the sound overall. But the Philips are still a very close runner and the price is exuberant.
I have DT-990 Premium 250 Ohm and sound, build quality and comfort are exceptional.
Yeah, DT990 has everything a gaming headphones needs. wide sound stage, great imaging, great bass and ultra clear sound.
Nima V that's right. The Philips don't punch as hard or as clear.
I'm confused. The name of this video is a comparison between the SHP9500 and the SHP9500s, and from the video this is what I got: The cable is different, and he is unsure if the clamping force has increased. That is about it. What about sound experience? You are out of luck here... And on top of that, he sounds like he is recommending the SHP9500s, but the shopping link in the description is for the SHP9500.
IKR
Philips SHP9500 and a Mod Mic with an included Audioengine D1 was and still is I believe one of the best purchases for my gaming setup. Almost wish I went with a Schiit Fulla 2 though because of the 1/4-Inch input and awesome knob.
got these because of you Z , three months ago, i cannot be happier ! For some songs and games I use APO eq with PEACE to bring up some bass , but mainly i don't even use the equalizer . 11/10
Zeos, thanks for the review! I just got my pair of shp9500s from Newegg, and I'm in love! They sound great (especially for the price) and they are definitely some of the most comfortable set of headphones I've ever worn. I can't wait to get my v moda boompro mic to complete my gaming headset :)
I love my SHP9500. I have 2 pair. Bought them both $50 each on Newegg sales after Z's first review. Since then I have bought several headphones including the Audeze LCD 3. I have to say the SHP9500 are still used in my collection and hold their own in both sound and comfort. Amazing value for the price!
Yeah, so for some reason these headphones now cost $200 on Amazon? And like $140 on Newegg? Everybody is saying they cost $60-70, but apparently not
I´m all into sim racing and I love my Philips SHP9500s when racing and streaming, combined with the Vero Moda Boom Pro Mic it is a "end game" for me. Some say it is overkill for sim racing but I say all worth it and I gladly show interested this lovely review! Thanks for all your great work!
GSX 1000 HYPE! Can't wait!
to straiten my cords, i get a clothes hanger and two clothespins or metal band paper clips (not the small little wire ones, black with chrome folding handles), pin it from the thick part of the plastic on the plug (not the wire of course) then i clip the other to the other end of the thick plastic of the plug, and hang it in my closet.. come back in a few days.. maybe a week at most.. usually does the trick, but i see a diff after 3 days of this so..
some wires wont work with this method.. but a lot do.
Thanks for your honest reviews bc of your reviews I bought the m40s and the Phillips.. And yes I changed the pads and wires to my m40s both are fucking awesome thanks again
So which ones should I get if they’re the same price and I’m changing the cable
Yes
When is the review for the Sennheiser GSX1000, and SybaSonic Amp/ Dac coming? Thanks for the great reviews! I just got my Fidelio X2HR's and I love them. Next I'm looking for an Amp/ Dac. Currently looking at the Mayflower ARC but you have my attention with the $38 SybaSonic as a temporary solution.
Glad I got these when I did cuz these are selling for $200+!
$70 today at newegg...
You don't have the 9500s link up once I click on your link took to Amazon showing the 9500.check it out
Hi zeos, I bought the shp's last year and couldn't be more pleased with them, however i'm now looking for a set of closed cans within a budget of about $200. The most important factors are comfort and noise isolation, and I was wondering which would be better for those qualities between the m40x with brainwavz angled pleather pads, and the stock cb-1 headset (or if you think something else would be better, that too). Thanks in advance for helping.
Edit: I prefer softer pads which is why im thinking about going with the hm5's over the zmf's, though ive never been able to actually feel either in person.
you bought m40x?
@@Croftbr i never ended up getting the m40x's, no. I did buy the cb1's years ago, but i would reccomend the takstar pro 82's if comfort is your thing. They are decently isolating, incredibly comfortable stock, cheap, and have decent sound. I would bet the m40's have better sound, but far worse stock comfort.
poor megumin she looks like she did her very last *EXPLOSION* and passed out
just got my pair and omfg they are so good thankyou very much the bug has me and wont let go
I've watched over 20 reviews on these not a single one doesn't recommend these problem being I'm not in the US and it's tough to get them but screw it take my money and just import just friggin get it here
ah, the good ole days of $65 SHP9500s. now they're $200 where they're in stock.
last time I was watching the original review on vintage one and having my SHP9500Son the way, this time I was with that and watching this.
Glad the SHPs still the same amazeballs. Just recommend them to a friend of mine.
Hi Zeo, on May 11, 2015 you reviewed Philips Fidelio X2 then on Sep 18, 2015 you reviewed Philips SHP9500 (and SHP9500s one year later). You raved all of them. Which one would you buy, given the big price differece?
I would greatly appreciate it if you redo the sound demo for these with your new set-up. Thanks Z!
Philips SHP9500s or audiotehnica m40x...?
M40x has a flat and neutral signature. Not recommended for gaming
@@nicholaswee3573 ok.thx..only for music,movies,tv,etc...no games..
Comparing apples to oranges; I have them both, M40x's have a tad fuller sound. The 9500 have an opened ambience effect. M40x' have a tighter clamping fit; the 9500 have a nice comfortable soft fit. I like the 9500's a little more because when playing with an e-drum kit I can hear the low volume (not electronic) cymbals through the opened headphones, but that's just personal reason's. Both have pretty good sound. My ears feel more relaxed, less compression and less sweetness feel with the 9500's. Even though the M40x cables are nice they have a proprietary design to their cable attachment at the headphone. Meaning if you have to replace them you just cannot replace with any headphone cable. Both models tested nearly the same in referencing the YT video "Ultimate headphone test".
Using my shp9500s to listen to this video. My v moda boompro is on its way. But they seem underwhelming? Atm w the stock cable, it seems underwhelming. And was very quiet compared to my Razer headset when I tried em out on my ps4. Is it the stock cable being trash? I greatly hope the vmoda enhances it, cuz they were too quiet while gaming w stock cable
First time viewer here, since these are the goto for under 200 open back is there a vid for the recommended closed backs?
second hand hd600 with an amp, k612 pro with an amp, dt880600 with an amp.
taief miah none of those are under $200
dt880600 is, k612 pro is $100 and second hand hd600s go for $150 the dac x6 is viable
Kenneth Ng Z would recommend the audio technica m40x for closed at a similar price. Check out his recommended lists on Reddit, they will be your guide...
taief miah amps cost money
Disregarding the microphone, for gaming do you recommend the SHP9500s over the HD698B? I play R6 and accurate positional audio is a necessity. Can't wait to see what you think of the Sennheiser GSX1000.
The "FUCK" you let out at around 6:10-6:15 hahaha
Did you shot this video by Gopro? Thanks
well based on yr review i got shp 9500 but it sounds dull right from the box, how many hours it takes to break in ? i did compare with my old hd558 and its huge difference in sound clarity
tried on pc as well my arcam avr30 with and master quality source .do i miss something or i expect too much from cheap headphones
I can get the Philips fidelio x2 for 130 $ in Sweden right now - would they be worth getting over the SHP9500 (around 100-130 atm)?
As the owner of a mint pair of original SHP9500. The clamp looks to be exactly the same as the SHP9500 s.
Is the sennheiser hd58x or hd6xx worth the extra money? And if so. I hear very conflicting reports about the hd6xx without amp. Some say it's fine some say its horrible. So could the hd6xx be used on my computer without an amp?
Still waiting for the price to go down on these. I got an old SHP9500 for $50 on a black friday sale a few years ago and got no regrets. I want a second pair so I can go ahead and mod my original pair.
its on sale on newegg
Hey Z! These headphones went up to $250!? How the heck? I’m glad I bought them a few years back when I saw your review. I was trying to recommend them to my cousin, and then I saw the price. Shame
Thanks Z - love your work!
So.. is the Syba Sonic Amp/Dac good? I'm trying to find a great dac/amp for under 50
They are back on stock at $79!
On the box of Philips SHP9500S - does it say "SHP9500S" or still "SHP9500" with no "S"?
Asking cuz purchased from Amazon, especially mentioned "check if SHP9500S before shipping", got SHP9500. Shipped back for replacement, and got Philips SHP9500 again. New light gray color box, bot dark/black, but says model SHP9500/00
3 months late, i know you figured this out.. SHP9500 has Black/Gray box while the SHP9500S had Teal/Gray box
I bought SHP9500S a month or two ago and got a new cord for it soon after as it wasn't the length I wanted and immediately noticed a difference. The stock cable is crap.
Sennheiser 660s hype?
Not for that price
ah fuck thats a thing?
I'm curious of how it will sound
It's going to funny if they sound worse than 600/650. Waste of $500 lmao
No, Audeze LCD2-C hype!
Is there are any other Bluetooth adapter apart from the one you are showing? It is too big to attached n looks odd
Got my 9500s's referbished on Newegg for $30. Couldn't be more happy with them for that price. Although I still prefer both the sound and comfort of my HD650's over them.
hi there is some difference in the sound between the two headphones as the box says it has different frequencies z review.
i ordered a disguised "SHP9500S" and instead got a SHP9500.
*Please* tell me the 6-35000Hz of the S don't make that much of a difference Q_Q
It happened to me too, on the amazon page of the shp9500 there a mistake on the title only (s). They wrote it in the model name. There no difference you can hear. Btw there the shp9500s specs on my shp9500 box (that looks the same as the shp9500s's box but no s). I still upset about that because I don't have anything to do with 3-meter cable
@@ohad339 you'll probably replace the cable anyway lol
@@CybertroninfiniteOfficial yeah but quarantine and all so it's hard for me to get one so until then I can act like they are wireless (go with them all over the house)
Waiting for mine to come in tomorrow, and returning these A10's.
Have you had success using the SHP9500S + Boom Pro combo with that Syba Sonic since making this video? I just purchased those phones and mic and since my mobo's mic input doesn't work I was thinking about getting the Syba as well. Should I just buy a cheap USB External Sound Card Adapter or will this Syba actually improve the sound quality?
Question , Why dont u review Quadral loudspeakers ? Here in the neterland's / germany they ar very popular , i have a set of Shogun Prestige Gold , very pleased with them .
Also have a set tannoy's GRF but my room is to small for those .
Because never heard of?
Just ordered 9500 one cause s version cant get it so yea
I think the original version has "gold plated connectors" and the S version does not. I asked Philips customer services and they said it's the same in all other respects. I wasn't clear though if this referred to the cable, or to the jack that the cable plugs into. Anyone know?
so the v-moda cable angled end is made for the output and not the headphones....
Zeos plz! I bought this summer the HD600 and the X7s. is it worth going on XLR for the HD600?Did you noticed big difference or small or not at all ,I am saying this because i didn't find cheap XLR cable for the 600s plz.
hey zeos, would you pad roll on your hd 600s? dekoni has a drop on MD for their velour and leather pads on right now and im trying to decide if i should get a pair for my 6xx i have coming in the mail
Which of the 3 would be the ideal to own? - Philips Fidelio X2HR, Monoprice M1060 or Hifiman HE400i? ( if you consider the price with Monoprice being the most expensive and Hifiman the cheapest )
Will the SHP9500 work fine if i will use them as a headset in a home studio? as if i have a condenser microphone, am i risking by taking such open back headphones a sound leakage that will enter my microphone while recording?
Hey, I have used the shp 9500 for 3 days now and I have seen people say that with the correct EQ settings then it can make the headphones sound much better. I am currently using shields42 from reddit and I'm split between whether I prefer the stock or the modified sound. If anyone can help with their peace configuration then I'll highly appreciated it.
@Z Reviews Which one has more bass, the modded SHP9500 with the 3D printed cups and new pads or the Fostex Argon? Which one do you like and enjoy better for gaming and music with heavy/hard hitting bass? Thanks in advance!
on sale for $60 CAD right now, tempted to grab them and a boom pro mic but i'm wondering if these things will leak enough to have the mic pick it up. would be the first set of open headphones for me and i'd hate to not be able to use them with the mic.
When using these for gaming with the boom pro does the mic pick up the sound from the headphones?
Does the MPOW Bluetooth receiver have latency while watching TH-cam or gaming?
Confused... I'm assuming you use the MPOW BT to allow your cans to perform cordless, but then you add the ModMic5 to become uncordless again? Or does the ModMic5 somehow plug into the MPOW BT module? From the reviews I've read, the MPOW BT's mic is crap.
Speaking of the MPOW mic, how bad is it?
Still using my shps or my gaming, seriously it's the best thing ever.
I bought a turtle beach headset on clearance for 50 or less bucks, only used it for a few days and went back to my Phillips. It seriously is the best thing.
Only thing I tinker with is the voice option on Xbox one, since some games have louder effects than most (BF1 is one where I put the voice volume louder, pubg I can go one or two notches above 0).
I need to find something that'll absorb my sweat from the fabric, always leaving a oily/blotchy spot if I lay them on paper or something else that'll absorb lol.
Wdym the splitter like the mic wont even work without it???
I wonder how good will this setup be: SHP9500S; NeoMusicia mic, and the Syba Sonic AMP/DAC mic
That Standard Vmoda Cable is sold out and no restock date. I looked at others and they all seemed to have more cable failures. Do you recommend I wait or keep looking what?
Bro mans keep up what your doing .. you give the best personal opinion reviews! Fucking A !!!!!!
Hey Z, been appreciating all your vids. Could you please tell me if you know anything about the Fidelio x2hr’s! I just purchased a pair from eBay, but they seem like a unicorn online with no info on them, making me second guess my purchase. Thanks in advance.
Oh yeah.... the SHP9500s are now on NewEgg for $49.99. From what I've read, the difference between the classic and the 9500s is the cord on the classic is better (gold plated) while the cord on the 9500s is not (plastic covering). Since, as you mentioned, the cord stinks either way, there's no real difference in build/function between the classic and 9500s.
So the SHP9500 is the same as the SHP9500S?
SHP9600 just came out a few months ago, would you review them too ?
He did
@@shalokshalom I've seen it day one :D
Hey z, if my motherboard gigabyte ab-350 gaming 3 has built in sound card already (Realtek ALC1220 codec, not sure if that's what you called it), would using the syba improve the sound substantially? Using shp9500 + vmoda boompro just like you did.
I do notice constant hiss and sometime cracks while connecting directly to MB, or front panel.
Hey Zeos,
Ive been looking at these for a while, but now im struggling to figure out whether to get these, or, the Lasmex l-85. Which would you pick?
Best open under 200 with great comfort? Koss Porta pro ! But I am still inclined to try those 9500
Hi Zeos, are the SHP 9500 still your recommendation for an open pair of gaming headphones or the Superlux HD 668B? Regards from Germany.
SHP9500s is cheaper than the SHP9500.
So I was wondering what was the difference. A win I suppose?
Also bought the shp9500 with the v-moda boom pro mic from his video. I can't use anything else for gaming they are as good as he says. I've tried different hyperx clouds and astro headsets and they don't compare to this combo. It literally feels like my head is being pleasured by the headphones.
Use this setup everyday. I have a VMODA boompro that has balance issues. The solution? Run it at 80% and use the amp for volume control.
Should I spend $2100 on Sennheiser HD800s + a chord mojo or $2100 on STAX L700 with the "energizer"?
