      I saw this and I want some . I was going 58x Jubilee when they were 135$ but they are back to 150$ and my 599s are alil too narrow and I like the separation and clarity and they work but no wow factor I mean dynamically I can accept but Senn is kinda just like flat. The x2HRs have some clamping which annoys me a slight bit and the sound is not great enough for me for some reason. These look sexy and never heard Planar tech sound and easier to drive and IDK maybe I'm being swayed but 20$ off 130$ so 110$ plus tax and buy a 6.6ft cable and Mmmmm I do and think I will grab these and hope for a sturdy set.

    These headphones are incredible. And for the sale price of $130, theyre stupid good. If you have the SHP9500, m40x, 668b, CB1s or anything in that level, these are an upgrade. I'm VERY impressed with these. They do require an amp; unlike those others.

  • @commenter9703

    Because everyone is going to ask 4XX or 6XX, I own both so I will tell you. I know Zeos said he bought these and not the 6XX, but when you have the 600 you don’t really need the 6XX. The 4XX is the identical driver as the 400i, they measure and sound 100% identical, so the 4XX is the 400i in the old Hifiman style. The 6XX is a more technically impressive headphone all around, it has a clarity that the 4XX can’t match. However, I think most people will still prefer the 4XX because of the sound signature. The 6XX has a sound signature that really fits classical, jazz, blues, and retro music. I hate the 6XXs for anything modern or for EDM. The 4XX has more forward mids, sharper non-rolled off treble, more bass, about the same sound stage, and slightly better imaging. The 4XX is better suited for more types of music in my opinion, especially newer music.

    • @commenter9703
      @commenter9703 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Personally though I would still take the 6XXs.

    • @commenter9703
      @commenter9703 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      MetalsForBrunch they are wrong. They measure 100% identical to the 400i. Hifiman isn’t going to make a new driver for just this headphone. Much cheaper for them to just use the 400i driver to get rid of stock because they are being replaced. That is the case with a lot of Massdrop headphones, they are for companies to get rid of stock. Take the Focal Elex, that was made for Focal to get rid of Elear parts because they are going to stop making the Elear.

    • @ericouicestmoimeme
      @ericouicestmoimeme 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strange... I have this Hifiman et the Fidelio X2HR. For me there is a world between these two headphones. The Fidelio has an infinitely better soundstage. Everything is more spatial, precise. If I had only had the Hifiman I would probably have appreciated it. But the Fidelio gives him a huge slap. It's not my style of music but, for example, on the track "Whisper Not" on the album "gipsy violin : swing guitars" the difference is such that this is where I decided to resell the Hifiman. It looks like two different recordings. One in a tin can with children's microphones and the other in a concert hall with top level sound recording equipment. On the fabulous recording of "The Traveler" by Allan Taylor, the first listening with the Hifiman is magnificent. But as soon as we pass on the Fidelio it is simply better, more realistic (guitars), more airy. The bass at the back, light but deep, appears infinitely better on the Philips and without excess. The guitar on the right is much more understandable and more realistic. We hear the pick sliding on the strings. It is much less noticeable on the Hifiman, too dull, less defined, more messy. The voice is very pleasant on the Hifiman but more textured on the Fidelio. On my own recordings, my guitar, a Gibson SJ 200 TV with a very particular, very full sound, is more realistic on the Fidelio. On the Hifiman I feel like I have an another guitar!

    • @ketchup1785
      @ketchup1785 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      KrishKrusher They're real different. I personally would get 4XX/400i since they're more neutral and don't sound like a bag of ass. X2's have messy bass with poor extension, recesses mids and peaky highs. They're pretty lo-fi for their price.

    • @abeplus7352
      @abeplus7352 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i beg to defer, x2s are fun sounding . I owned a pair of them and decided to sell them opting for hd 600s as they're so neutral and best headphones yada yada . Those hd600s were the most boring pair of headphones i've ever bought. Yes the mids were impressive , but they were just boring. So i really regret selling the x2s , if i had more money i would have bought them back. The x2s need farts to be powered literally, anything can power them and they need 0 amplification. They're so comfortable , thats something i miss out on with my t50rpmk3's and they're just chill . If you need headphones to relax with , then the x2s have no alternative in that price bracket tbh.

    • @ketchup1785

      @abeplus7352 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you might have had a bad pair , i really don't know , but the highs are no where peaky at all , if we want to talk about peaky highs , i own dt 990s and the t50s those are peaky highs and sometimes sibilant , but they need to be cause that's what they do .

    Zeos I have got to say. I am 63 years old and own a Magnepan system with older Acurus Power setup. And these drop HE4xx headphones are almost as clear and beautiful as my QR 1.6 speakers. I listen to a lot of genre’s of music, and I know these headphones will shine in certain areas better than others. But these are the sweetest sounding set of cans I’ve ever heard. On certain recordings like Lyle Lovetts big Band, the sound stage actually comes from right behind my ears lobes and all the way to center without any drop out of any kind that I can hear. I am amazed! Thank you. For 149$ I couldn’t be happier! Driving with the Class A Asgard from using the blue node as source, so far. I will be trying the turntable in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Bud!

    It was one of the most outstandingly positive experiences in my life. Closing my eyes, the music took me by the hand, a dancing, dazzling light show
    I do find they don't sound great right out of a phone with a DAC dongle. They need a little power. They love the btr5.
    I got some hex4's recently and I think they sound even better. And every other detail about them is identical to these. Literally identical. Same box. Cable. Band. Pads. Cans.

    Watched this before, but adding my comment now. First off, I have owned these since the first drop. These are one of my favorite headphones and I own a bunch of headphones like Zeos. I will state though, I've used these almost every day since I got them, but a month ago the right driver started developing a crackle/crinkle sound. I contacted hifiman US customer support and they gave me an RMA number right away. So hoping to get them back in perfect condition again. I hope that my pair that started failing was a one off. Rest of the build quality is superb though. Sound when it wasn't failing was superb as well.These are smooth, relaxing, full body headphones. I feel like I'm describing a fine wine and not a headphone, but it is what it is.

    • @docgiggs
      @docgiggs 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replacement went smooth. I emailed them with my problem. They asked that I send them a screen shot of my massdrop order as well as a picture of the actual unit. Once I did that they sent me an address and rma number. Only problem overall was I had to pay for shipping. However, if you have the paypal offer to let them reimburse you shipping back on returns that isn't too big a deal. Basically I got an RMA number within a day of sending their customer service an email. I shipped that same day and got a new unit in less than week. No problems with the new unit so far.

    I have these, they aren't the most detailed, and I really really really wish the bass was tighter. Intrument seperation is unreal. They aren't the most flat headphone, but they are my absolute go to. Very are buttery smooth and rich, the most relaxing headphone I've heard. My T50rp open alphas cant hold a candle to these

    HE 4XX. If the SHP9500s we're still around I would still say HE 4XX. I own a HD 660 S as well and I think these compete against them very well. Coarse the HD 660 S and the HE 4XX is just different. If I want music closer sounding to my head and I want to hear vocals with bass that's smooth as hell then I use the HD 660 S. If I want clear pushed back mids with pushed back separated sounding bass that's also clean af then I use the HE 4XX. Coarse from what I've heard the LCD 2C is still the best tier headphone to pickup if you're wanting the absolute best for natural sounding headphones at an actual reasonable cost. Those are $799 though.. the HD 660 S is $500 and then you have the HE 4XX which is only $159.(insane deal for the money) Also don't forget the about the HD 58X. I would say if I had the opportunity again I would get the HD 58X and then get the HE 4XX. Because we all need at least one planar in our lives.

    • @thiscorrosion900

      That sounds like a ridiculous suggestion. I would try them on both. I mean, people spend $10,000 on a tube amp for their Martin Logan electrostatic speakers, for goodness' sake,
      I don't see why planars wouldn't sound fantastic through a good (Dark Voice or whatever) tube amp. I think a lot of people have a lot of opinions that are not necessarily sound.

    I must have an older build. The cans on mine are made of solid steel. The grill is more silvery and more open. They are good without an amp, but they really shine on a balanced output through a dac/amp. The sound is detailed and reserved. I may be crazy, but I prefer the wide sound and channel separation/phase of my cheapo, less detailed Denon 1100's sometimes. I guess it's because I've been a poor boy all my life.

    Just an FYI to everyone. The stock pads on the HE4XX (Focus Pads-A) are decent, yes. However, the way my ears, jaw, and head shape are I wasn't getting any bass out of these without adding a gap behind my ears or partially lifting them off of my head for some reason. I have the HE-400 with regular Focus Pads so I put the Focus Pads on the HE4XX and the Focus Pads-A on my HE-400. That totally fixed my lack of bass problem and didn't ruin the bass on my HE-400. So if you have the lack of bass problem it might be worth picking up some regular Focus Pads because these really are exceptional headphones, especially for the price.

    • @richarddavis8381
      @richarddavis8381 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I second this recommendation. I too prefer the Focus Pads (with the fenestrated interior) to the stock Focus Pads-A on the 4XX; the Focus Pads make the 4XX low end much punchier. If you want to boost the low end on the 4XX even more than the Focus Pads-A do, try some ZMF leather Ori pads on them. It’s like wearing a fine leather couch on your head with a subwoofer built into it.

      Bought HiFiMan HE400i just as New Year kicked over from Amazon.
      Loved the sound and fit - really happy with them all round.
      After 22 days one of the arms just snapped as I picked them off the desk.
      I have/had Sennheiser HD600s, Phillips X2 & SHP9500s, Bose Q35 IIs for travelling, Denon AH-MM400s, Status Audio CB1s, Audio Technica ATH-M50X and never had a pair break like that...I was lucky in timing terms getting a refund but asked on a few forums and there were quite a number of similar incidents. Personally I think they make great sounding but poorly built headphones.

      Pleiadian I haven't heard anyone complain about them breaking. I've heard many people complain about 400i&400s only.

    These tempt me because I bought the HE400I and the plastic yoke on one of the sides broke within a month. Liked the sound but won't buy them again with the plastic part that broke. The 4xx with the metal piece now may be worth it. I have HD600s right now and have 6XXs coming in a few months. Don't have the money to just own a bunch though. I plan on selling either the 600s or the 6XX once I decide which I like more.
