    I've been using this set for a year and I'm not going to switch to anything else so far. I really love the sound and mic quality. Especially, I like the fact that the headset doesn't clamp your head. I tried SteelSeries Arctis 7, Logitech G935, and HyperX Cloud Flight and all of the had crappy microphone and were too tight for me so I couldn't wear them without having a headache.

    Bought this combo a long time ago, love the headphones, but I have bought TWO vmoda mics that have the same bleed issue, that is even more prevalent when the mic is MUTED. Wires are crossed somewhere, it is NOT the mic (mouth piece) picking up sound from the SHP9500. My friends all say that I am pretty quiet on discord and such, but if I increase the mic volume anymore things from my games, videos, etc. all start to bleed into the chat. Again, even worse if I mute the mic, so much so that people are able to tell exactly what is being said in videos and my games. It drives me crazy.
    Having had enough of this, I finally decided to order an antlion modmic, so it is completely separate from the headphones. We'll see how it goes and I'll try to remember to update this comment, in case anyone is actually reading this. I've read about all sorts of issues with the mute switches on them though, apparently they either don't work at all or just lower volume essentially without actually MUTING the damn mic. Can't even trust a mute switch anymore, guess I'll have to get used to a keyboard bind if it is as bad as they say. There was about two options I found for detachable mics, the antlion and another more expensive one from audio-technica both with reviews speaking of the mute switch problem. ~$60-80 for these just seems like robbery. I absolutely want to keep using open back headphones though. I can game all day if need be with these, if I go back to noise canceling cups, I'll die lol.
    I still remember my old logitech g330 headset. Would love to have a standalone version of that mic for the SHP9500. Never had an issue or any complaints about that mic.
    EDIT 5/1/2022 - Forgot to come back to edit my experience with this, I apologize. Have an updated take on the antlion mic in the comments below =).

      Hey man, does the modmic meets your expectations?

    • @Jbeasty1990
      @Jbeasty1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tomgroen_ In short, yes, it solved the bleed issue ofc, but all the problems I read about in reviews were correct. They are manageable though, the mute switch doesn't work 100%, loud noises will go through, but I am just using a mute bind now instead. The voice quality is average, according to my friends at least. It definitely picks up more background noise than the VMODA did, but it isn't a deal breaker imo. Blaring loud volume on my headset will cause the mic to pickup, which is expected, but it hasn't been an issue otherwise.
      Overall, I am satisfied, but I can't say the quality matches the price tag. Wouldn't recommend it unless you are having issues similar to mine; the options were pretty limited for these stand alone attachable mics.

    • @tomgroen_
      @tomgroen_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jbeasty1990 Sounds good! I'm looking into buying the sony 1000mx4 for my everyday usage. Also I want to use it for gaming a few hours a week. Therefore I need an (wired) attachable mic, since the Ps4 does not support the mic from the sonys. Which mic would you recommend?

    • @Jbeasty1990
      @Jbeasty1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomgroen_ Imo, you should probably give the VMODA a try first, as it is the far less expensive option and the the quality between the two is similar. You also don't have to worry about applying the adhesive connector for the antlion.
      If you run into similar issues as me with bleeding and whatnot, just make sure you buy from Amazon or somewhere that has easy returns. YMMV =).

    I have these cans, absolutely worth it. Their main positives are their midrange and soundstage- Vocals play on a different plane compared to instruments, and their clarity gives instruments a great amount of realism. Unfortunately sub-bass is very weak, though not many songs utilise frequencies that low. If you're very treble sensitive you should also reconsider, as there's a small amount of sybilance on high notes, nothing that really bothers me. If you already have the 58x or 600 series sennheiser there is no need to buy these unless for the soundstage, but anyone looking for an upgrade to their sound consider picking these up.

      Agreed, I have the same ones, and when I was a Windows user I had an Asus Xonar DG sound card pushing them, but sadly that card does not work well under Linux, so I had to switch over a boom stick headphone amp to drive them with a small USB cable powering the portable amp, but it at least allows for a headset with a 4 pole mic if needed.

    I've been using this very combination for over 2 years now and couldn't be more satisified with the price to performance ratio it has going on. I've tried quite a few headsets from Logitech and Rosewill and they all either broke or had major issues with comfort after hours of use. There was a long time when these were no longer in stock at both Newegg and Amazon (US), so it's nice to see that they're replenishing them.
    If I had to have some cons in regards to the headphones though, it is definitely the clamping force and how quickly it gets dirty or picks up fuzz. I can't even lean my head back before it starts to slide off of my ears. And the fabric material, while comfortable, is a fuzz and hair magnet that is almost impossible to clean. But even with those cons, if my current pair ever bite the dust, i'm going to get another pair all the same. It's that worth it imo.

      I would recommend the HyperX Cloud Orbit S but it's very expensive at $330. It uses 100mm planar magnetic drivers made by the very high end brand, Audeze. Compared to most headphones which use 40-50mm neodymium drivers, these things sound incredible and have some awesome features like Waves NX 3D audio and head tracking. There's a $300 model that doesn't have the head tracking software too. The Audeze Mobius is another great one for PC but it's pretty much the same thing as the Cloud Orbit but it's $400. That's actually they're cheapest headset lol. They have headphones that cost more than $2,500 so they are def audiophile quality. I would say the HyperX Orbit is the closest you'll get to audiophile quality sound in a gaming headset. I currently own the HyperX Revolver and Arctis Pro + Gamedac and the Arctis Pro is def my favorite gaming headset I've ever owned. I've had 3 different HyperX headsets, Astro A50s, Turtle Beach Stealth 700, Sony Platinum, Razer Nari and a few others but the Arctis Pro has been my favorite for the last year I've owned it. Sound is fantastic, crisp and neutral with excellent, punchy bass and subbass. Really sharp highs and clear mids. There's a reason it has won best gaming headset from almost every single gaming and tech outlet. The Arctis Pro Wireless is awesome as well but if you're gaming on PC you're probly at a desk and don't need wireless. Plus u get better sound and features with the wired model, in addition to no interference or latency that wireless would have. I'll also mention that there are some really great sales on the Logitech headsets on Amazon right now. Like the G933 Artemis is only like $70 when it's normally $150+. Logitech is usually a pretty good choice for PC gaming

I must say that currently ive upgraded to a blue yeti mic and while that mic is better and also drives my headphones to sound louder. this set up in its price range right out of the box cant be beat. im still using these headphones with no need upgrade them. its just funny to see this set up start to get traction now even though the price has increased to 100$ when I bought it for 70$ 2 years ago lol thanks Zeos!!!!

    5:16 Generally speaking, open headphones are not designed to be mobile. The fact that they're open means that unless you have an amp powering the headphones and you plan on listening to very loud distorted music, you're going to hear a lot of extraneous noise from your surrounding environment especially if you're taking a bus or you plan to take this to an open office. Having said that, if you use your headphones at full blast, people near you will hear a lot of annoying noise from your headphones. Some are much louder than others. For my experience, my gf can hear my DT-1990s from more than 4 meters away in a quiet in environment in my home. And that was only turned up to about 80 decibels. Vocals and highs really leak out.

While I work, I usually have music or a vid playing in the background. While the Phillips was great for music, the CM definitely has better bass and that just suits my music choices.
      Gaming wise, I feel like the CM had better directional audio as well, that's just my personal opinion. I play comp CS and Pubg.

    For a similar price, you can get the Superlux HD668B headphones, some velour ear pads and a modmic. The sound quality is similar to the Phillips 9500, but I think the mic quality is better. It's another Zeos setup. I currently run this, but I upgraded from the $10 Cosmos velour pads to the brainwavs hybrid pads. It makes one heck of a headset. I can't recommend this whole "make your own headset" thing enough. I definitely think the overall quality is better than most gaming headsets in the same price range.

      Thanks for this information! I checked out the HD668B headphone rating on rtings' website and compared it to the SHP9500 headphones. They seem surprisingly close on all counts, except for breathability but, as you mentioned, replacing those ear pads with velvet/velour should help some with that. Also they are rated as being made of much cheaper material, which is reflected in their current price of $35 versus the Phillips headphones which are $75 now.
      Still, I'm putting them on my list to consider.

      I have $200 Steelseries Prism Elites which are older than the arctis 7s but my Elites sound like someone put a bag over my head and I have zero directional awareness in game but they have more bass due to being closed back and a ton of sound isolation and clamping force. Compared to my headphones (Audio Technica ad900x) which are slightly more bass lite but similar imaging and soundstage to the SHP9500 that I've listened to side by side it's really no contest in gaming. Assuming you don't mind the wire, the decent amount of sound leak (about as much as talking to someone on the phone with the volume up and it up to your ear), and the ability to hold a conversation with someone with them on your head then go for it you wont be disappointed.

    What you covered about these headphones allowing you to hear the details of your environment very well is really true. In Splatoon 2, these headphones allow me to better hear someone walking or swimming up around me, even over the background music bumping.
    IMO the sound stage and the Highs, lows, and Mids are perfect for games that require you to better focus in on a select set of sounds or notes. While also giving you a good listening experience for all the good music for whatever game you're playing has to offer.

      RyTrapp0 gaming headsets do not improve audio. They generally sound ass with a few exceptions like the PC37x and the ADG1X(which is an AD900x with a mic). At 15$ KSC75/KSC75x beats most of em in therms of sound quality in music/movies while still being as good for gaming if not better. Do not like the clips, just get the Parts express 3$ headband. Want a mic for dirt cheap, get the KSC75x (it has a mic). There is a reason the KSC75 is known as the best budget hifi headphone, the price to performance can literally not be beaten.
      Also if you ever want better mic quality (far superior to headset mics for streaming/recording), then you can get the XM8500+UM2+Neewer boom arm XLR mic combo for round 70$, which is also a dynamic microphone and will have little to no problems with background noise compared to shit like Blue Yeti, while still sounding as good if not better.
