I personally think it's way better than DR1 in terms or physics, handling and overall "feel" of the cars however only 6 locations again, no snow stages. I say wait until all the extra content is added and then get it on sale.
Staggered rallies would help with that lonely experience for online rallies and also it would be awesome feature in game, just allow the host to have options for car contact on/off and so on.
Excellent summary. I love this game. The FFB and general feel you get is the best of anything I ever played with my wheel and pedals. This game and assetto corsa (NOT AC Competitione!) are my favorite console racing games by a large margin. I just wish there were a few more stages and cars available (like Toyota!). I would even be very happy to pay extra for more cars and stages or rally locations as DLC. Love it though!
I have the first one but have only played it less than 20 hours (just bought it last year) and as such, I'm just gonna stick to the first game because this does not look like it improves it that much. The lack of tracks is still a disappointment.
Got this free on PS Plus in April and overall I'm really liking it (but I wasn't at first). I've not played racing games since the ps3 5+ years ago so thought I'd give it a go. One thing I have learned and come to accept is that Its very hard to get podiums even over half the time. It seems to change the difficulty after you do really bad or really good in an event. So if you've just nailed a few stages and maybe even win an event, be worried. Beating the AI is a very mixed challenge and I haven't figured it out yet. I got bored and frustrated rallying the Lancia and built up 1.3 million credits playing the first 2 or 3 rallying events but mainly the rallycross (RX) events. I actually gave up on rallying after the 2nd or 3rd one because it was so hard and I was crashing or just not fast enough and coming near enough last all the time. So after A LOT of RX which I enjoyed so much more I decided to give rallying a go, bought an R5 category Skoda Fabia, 4wd, 1.6 280bhp. 4wd is a lot easier to control and you can use the power to steer you round the corner, not like a fwd car that just understeers (although I've dialed out as much understeer as possible in my opel corsa RX car and that really is fun to drive and doesn't understeer too much) Now its still very frustrating because during the same event I can place 10th with a clean stage and fairly quick, but then the next stage I'll be 1st and 20 seconds in front of the leader and feel like a hero, its very confusing but so rewarding when you do get on a roll and set a good time. Biggest advice to anyone about to play; Take note of the time of day in rallying and always fix your headlights and DO NOT damage the front of your car destroying your lights. You will literally end up crawling along just trying to get to the end in pitch black because you don't want to quit the race.
Dirt 2 was amazing. Traiblazer events, trophy trucks, Raid, domination, last man standing, brilliant rally cross tracks etc. The past two games I've had in the Dirt series don't seem to have any near as much multiplayer content. And they're certainly nowhere near as much fun to play. I'll be giving this one a miss too.
It looks great, but I think I'll stick with Dirt Rally 1 for now. When it comes to driving games I like my sequels to be bigger and more ambitious since the basics of the gameplay never really change, so the content itself has to step it up in terms of quality/quantity, and this game just feels like it's putting in the bare basics... I'll wait for a good sale! I was really just hoping a Dirt Rally sequel would have everything from the first game and more, but this seems like a relatively small selection reminiscent of the first game (seems like more cars? But same amount of track, which is disappointing).
@@wylie2835 Well Dirt Rally did cost less money upfront during early access and this game is a 60 dollar sequel with less content that they're gonna sell as DLC later down the line. Did i forget to mention that older track from Dirt Rally 1 are going to be sold again as dlc? Yeah they're doing that fucking bullshit!
Except it has a lot more content. And the tracks for DR1 are not compatible with DR2. It has entirely new materials, physics properties, spline system, and degradation. But people liked the old stages and asked for them. About the only thing that could be kept is the mesh. Which is being updated to new quality standards. So Codemasters are spending more work converting them to the new game than they would making new ones. But sure. make a public dickhead of yourself lmao.
@@wylie2835 touche on that the tracks but how much more content does DR 2.0 have compared to the full release of DR 1? GT even mentioned the lack of content as being a negative..
Good and fair review. Though I'm going to try and hold off personally as the VR experience of the first one was a total game changer for me, so will wait until they implement that and the other seasons.
I never understood why rally games don't want to incorporate multiple cars on the same track in multiplayer. Not just the option for ghost, but also the option for full cars with collision. It's fun, who cares if someone spoils your perfect time, a bit of lunacy and hilarity makes for a much better experience. It's the only thing I don't like about rally cars, they try and take everything too seriously. I also wish they incorporated play grounds, practice arena's that loop about each other with multiple paths, the freedom to just drive around as you like and experiment. Instead you always have to pick an exact stage all setup for you
DIRT Rally is a game for Rally fans and it's great in that matter, it does everything it has to and doesn't try to do all the meaningless things modern racing games do, like cards, lootboxes and stuff like that.
The more I see and hear of this game the more I feel it represents the endemic state within the wider game industry right now. I cancelled my preorder and am so glad I did. It seems as though Codemasters, after the apathetic reaction to Dirt 4 and fans apparent eagerness for a true sequel to Dirt Rally, saw an easy opportunity for easy money. What rankles most is undoubtedly there is a solid base under the hood and I'm sure aspects of the physics engine have been improved over the original, yet blatant cynicism and poor decisions have, for me at least, undermined the whole project. The DLC. There is no excuse for holding back content on a full priced AAA title that was in the original game and is already there only to be hidden behind a season pass paywall. You will likely end up paying the RRP over again just to end up with a complete game. It is, and always will be, an utterly cynical, short sighted business model that will end up alienating more fans than the money it gains you. The original Dirt Rally was testing the waters and more content added as Codemasters realised there was a market for it. The content. 6 locations for rally. Bearing in mind, per location, 2 full stages chopped up and reversed to make up the quota. Staple rally locations held back to guarantee future buy in and some odd car omissions, maybe to be added in DLC packs. Again, guaranteeing future buy in?? Multiplayer seems to be a bare bones afterthought. Also, Codemasters seemed to have spent more time and effort promoting this game than actually developing it, although I don't know whether that's just a damn good job by the marketing team. They obviously did a good job with the rallycross promotion that takes up half the game. It's so sad that publishers and developers resort to easy decisions that lead to short term gains when if they were far sighted enough they would create a solid product with a great array of content and listen to fans instead of exploiting their wishes, which would gain much more loyalty and a better reputation in the long term. Like I said, this is an issue at the core of gaming industry right now, not just with Codemasters.
I really wish they would have made better career mode. For example the career mode in F1 2018 was stunning and would have liked to see something like that on this game...
Already bought it.... and already playing it, the only bad part is that it that it doesnt have the WRC which is sadly trademarked to their official game that isnt nearly as good other than that good game!
Someone needs to develop a wearable VR helmet. Pair that with one of those 3 axis bucket seats and boom you have the ultimate living room rally/driving simulator.
what do you think about dirt rally 1.0 vs 2.0? I only just got a PC and haven't played through 1.0 yet. I also hope to have a VR headset someday which 1.0 supports and 2.0 seems to be wavering on. Is 2.0 a slight graphics update with new tracks? does 1.0 have more content. Ps random question for ya ;) are second hand wheels a no no? do they get worn out.
I have a GTX1070 with a core i7 3.8ghz processor and I find that on Ultra settings the FPS rarely reaches higher than 60 (with v-sync off) and on some certain areas I get fps as low as 40 or even 30 in some cases.
I like the dirt rally series due to how hard it it, but seriously there seems to be a massive lack of content. Like, if there's 3 locations already made but not in, there's something really wrong there... Still probs gonna get it once all the dlcs have come out tho lol
Also, advice on a good rallycross car? I'm sorted with my rally car for now (R5 Skoda Fabia 1.6 300bhp 4wd). I enjoyed the Opel Corsa 1.6 RX car they give you, managed to dial out most of the understeer but I obviously want to move on now, but there also doesn't seem to be many available to buy as well? There's a lot more rally cars than RX cars. I tried the supercars with 600bhp and hated it, way too hard to control with so much power. Apart from that I found a 1.6 Ford Fiesta 4wd RX car and that was it. I want to have a decent RX car so I can choose what type of rallying to do
What do you guys think if Codemasters made a Drifting game that was actually realistic? Obviously some pro cars but plenty of dyi setups and customization. Some tracks, streets and warehouses etc.
@@kingjulien9525 bummer. Guess I'll stick with Dirt Rally 1. The contents in 2 is also lackluster and taking away tracks we already got in 1 as dlc is a dick move.
@@akmal94ibrahim you made a great point. I wasn't aware of that. They are literally shooting themselves on the foot once again. For once a Dirt Rally game comes out and it doesn't have my interest... At all. See you on the track on DR on steam. Lol
It's probably better to wait for the end of this year and get a goty edition or wait for a big sale. Lowest I've seen is $30 on the PSN Store with plus, sadly I don't have plus :(
I didn’t get that recommendation from what you were saying. I think I’ll wait for a sale. PS I hate “seasons” too. It’s just a fancy term for DLC. Bare game for full amount - not cool
If they keep making content I'll buy it. I don't know what is so bad about that. Would you rather they just not release anything like Dirt Rally? If you don't want it don't buy it...
zerosun9 of course not but why is it suddenly okay to get half of the game for full price and then purchase the rest of the pieces later for more $$? Other products are going the other way nowadays - you get lot more for the same amount then you did 10 or even 3 years ago. Only gaming seems to be going the other way hence I’ll wait. Many awesome titles to play beforehand anyway 😉
@@juraj_b Who says it's half the game though? We have no idea about that. Dirt Rally 2.0 has as much, if not more content than the original Dirt Rally... so surely that means it's a 'full game' at launch? I think there is a good amount of launch content - given you like both rally and rallycross... but yes, we always want more more more. At least this time we will have the option to get more, even if it is just remastered stages.
@@umosay For me personally, I think the game looks about the same size as Dirt Rally 1... but that's disappointing because I expect a sequel to deliver a little more (the first game didn't exactly have a wealth of content imo, though it wasn't bad either). There are some tweaks to the formula in DR2, but I would think most of the heavy lifting designing the game/engine would have been done with the first game, and a sequel would pile in more content. To see that they *are* doing that, but charging for it rather than expanding the base game just doesn't feel right for a lot of people. I think they could have done both more base content *and* more DLC, but that's just my opinion! I think another 2 locations in the base game would have been a huge value edition, even if they were just a couple of the remastered ones. Then toss in more remasters and a couple new ones as DLC options.

Totally agree! So annoying you fork out your cash £50+ on a game for them to add the extra stuff a month later for another £8.99 or whatever it is! Forza Horizon 4 was guilty of this! A modest sized map and content and then released a whole new island! 😡
@@Super_GT They kept out a few cars and the remastered stages should be 'free' but apart from that, more content is a lot more dev time so I don't mind getting things in stages. If I'm still playing the game I'll buy the content... better than just going cold like Dirt Rally.

4wd is a lot easier to control and you can use the power to steer you round the corner, not like a fwd car that just understeers (although I've dialed out as much understeer as possible in my opel corsa RX car and that really is fun to drive and doesn't understeer too much)
Now its still very frustrating because during the same event I can place 10th with a clean stage and fairly quick, but then the next stage I'll be 1st and 20 seconds in front of the leader and feel like a hero, its very confusing but so rewarding when you do get on a roll and set a good time.
Biggest advice to anyone about to play; Take note of the time of day in rallying and always fix your headlights and DO NOT damage the front of your car destroying your lights. You will literally end up crawling along just trying to get to the end in pitch black because you don't want to quit the race.
4:14 that cut deep man
Just bought the Game of the Year edition for $12 that includes all the extra content. Wish me luck!
Feels like yesterday when Dirt Rally 1.0 went into early access beta
Dirt 2 was by far the best for online racing. This game here, no staggered starts with collisions I’m out... no buy.
ever play cat and mouse in Dirt 3? so damn good.
@@wurble Though funfactor is subjective, Dirt Rally 1 was really intense and fun even on a controller.
I do sorely miss Dirt 3's outbreak though.
I loved racing trophy trucks on rally stages online.
Still playing dirt rally VR, when they addon VR I'll buy.
The Will add only oculus rift thats what ive heard
The most important question though, is does it have the Toyota Celica ST205?
Dashe _ no
It looks great, but I think I'll stick with Dirt Rally 1 for now.
On the same boat. No way in fuck am i gonna pay 60 for a gane with less content than the last
So you want. You want something worth more, for the same? That isn't how this works.
Great review. U just confirmed my thought of buying this game. Can’t wait to get it.
You're probably regretting it
Good and fair review.
Is it worth to get if I have Dirt 4? I'm playing with controller and like the more arcade style of 4 compared to Dirt Rally
Yes yes yes!! If you Loved the Colin McRae Games and you are a Controller gamer, this Game is perfect for you! Best Rally Game in my opinion :))))
You should play this game with a steering wheel it is so nice
I like the dirt rally series due to how hard it it, but seriously there seems to be a massive lack of content. Like, if there's 3 locations already made but not in, there's something really wrong there... Still probs gonna get it once all the dlcs have come out tho lol
Good review 👍
Thank you =)
Also, advice on a good rallycross car? I'm sorted with my rally car for now (R5 Skoda Fabia 1.6 300bhp 4wd). I enjoyed the Opel Corsa 1.6 RX car they give you, managed to dial out most of the understeer but I obviously want to move on now, but there also doesn't seem to be many available to buy as well? There's a lot more rally cars than RX cars. I tried the supercars with 600bhp and hated it, way too hard to control with so much power. Apart from that I found a 1.6 Ford Fiesta 4wd RX car and that was it. I want to have a decent RX car so I can choose what type of rallying to do
wish the hand animation was more violent for when you get terminal damage.
"Game" - Super GT 2019.
good comment.
What do you guys think if Codemasters made a Drifting game that was actually realistic? Obviously some pro cars but plenty of dyi setups and customization. Some tracks, streets and warehouses etc.
The story mod is the same as DR1 so i feel like it will Die out fast. they need to add more Multiplayer stuff in to give it more livelyness.
I want to know should I buy the year edition that is more expensive and you get everything, or should I just buy the game which is less.
I got the ultimate edition for like 12 bucks so it's a 10/10 for me
Please, codemasters, give us staggered starts back ffs
that would be so nice omg
Dream on!! lol even if its doable (ACAT mod on Dirt Rally), they will never release it in good faith in the name of real sim.
Keep up the great work!
Excellent review. Thank you.
Which one is better Dirt rally 1 or 2?
no VR, always online: I pass!!!
Always online? Really?
@@akmal94ibrahim apparently requires connection online even on single player, leaderboard purpose. There is a video for that.
@@kingjulien9525 bummer. Guess I'll stick with Dirt Rally 1. The contents in 2 is also lackluster and taking away tracks we already got in 1 as dlc is a dick move.
Well my internet says it’s a no go then
@@akmal94ibrahim you made a great point. I wasn't aware of that. They are literally shooting themselves on the foot once again. "IF" they had released that game as a Dirt Rally patch and charge me for that I'd gladly pay $30-40 for it. But that business practice of premium early access , DLC,... Is getting old. For once a Dirt Rally game comes out and it doesn't have my interest... At all. See you on the track on DR on steam. Lol
It's probably better to wait for the end of this year and get a goty edition or wait for a big sale. Lowest I've seen is $30 on the PSN Store with plus, sadly I don't have plus :(
Good review. Don't forget to talk about the audio 🔉
I played the drinking game, but I passed out 2 minutes in.
DiRT 2 was amazing
Does it play and feel as good as the first DR?
Free on ps plus! Can’t wait to play it
I didn’t get that recommendation from what you were saying.
Hey, what happened to the video you uploaded today? I hope you didn't get copyright striked or anything like that
I love stage rally and rally cross, ive been wondering if there was a really decent game/simulation for it and this seems well done, now i gotta get a wheel and stuff, and buy this game
ZombiE Gaming and random it’s great and the best Simulation on PS4 you can get. Thats what I can say, as a real life driver.
(PC/pedals and wheel) Can you change control so you can use the clutch as hand brake ? You couldn't do that in dirt 4,
You could do it in dirt rally, so i hoped that you could do it again in dirt rally 0.2. DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY MONEY ! AGAIN
The co-drivers voice isn't distorted, is it? It would add a lot to the immersion I think.
It is. They recorded him while on a motion simulator. th-cam.com/video/COcVLlygtjM/w-d-xo.html
@@ValHazzard thanks for the feedback.
Great review 👌🏻
Hang on, need another beer, BRB
Pre ordered on Friday :) physical edition should be good you legend thank you
have they fixed the multi player ghost? have they added it now or patched it?
really good review
The gearbox is only manual or is manual and automat
Are the Rally cross tracks new? The first one is the same as the dirt 4 Rally cross track.
I dont know if I should buy the game... It looks super cool, but Im not that good with a wheel...
Totally agree! So annoying you fork out your cash £50+ on a game for them to add the extra stuff a month later for another £8.99 or whatever it is!
Forza Horizon 4 was guilty of this! A modest sized map and content and then released a whole new island! 😡
Yup, it's a sad trend that most developers seem to be following now.
@@Super_GT They kept out a few cars and the remastered stages should be 'free' but apart from that, more content is a lot more dev time so I don't mind getting things in stages. If I'm still playing the game I'll buy the content... better than just going cold like Dirt Rally.
I picked up my pre ordered deluxe edition on the 22nd feb last Friday I even took a days annual leave to play the game I was so excited I loved dirt rally 1 and I just took for granted this would be better than dirt rally but I don't think it is to be honest ? its not better its just different and I'm somewhat disappointed to be honest !! I even upgraded my Logitech g29 to a thrustmaster TGT ready to play what I thought would be a far improved dirt rally game but its not, its just different. The TGT is an awesome wheel so much more realistic than my G29 to be honest I prefer the physics on dirt rally 1 just my own opinion perhaps and I hope this game will grow on me ive rallied over 40000 miles in dirt rally 1 on my g29 but since using my TGT its like playing a whole new game and its awesome so I'm very happy but not so happy with this new dirt rally 2.0 .
