    RBR obviously has one advantage as that is modding.
    However, comparing RBR’s base game to DR 2.0, 2.0 absolutely blows it away. No contest.

    Miko Marczyk (Polish rally champion, Skoda Motorsport driver, sim racing enthusiast and world record holder on SS Zagórze in Dirt 2.0) commented on realism of the two. He wrote that according to him RBR is still the most realistic one. For him iRacing or AC are real simulators, but it's a lot harder to produce a serious one for rallying environment. The grip on gravel in Dirt games is much higher in real life (he was like 4s / km quicker than in real life). The stages are not close to being bumpy enough, on the second run on the stage is like a battlefield, you have to aim for the ruts, which have a huge impact on how the car behaves and in games it's a lot less noticeable (even in RBR,). He also wrote that the Dirt Rally team did a good job producing a balanced game as far as realism and accessibility is concerned.
    He also wrote that the FF on default was too strong for the R5 car and he had to reduce it to make it closer to reality.

    The thing is, DiRT Rally 2.0 could be 100% accurate and it still wouldn't matter to a lot of people in the simracing community because they played RBR first therefore they think it's always the best. That's just how the simracing community is.

    I'm not sure about it. I think I still live in era of Colin McRae games when there were plenty of stages (I miss special stages) from asphalt in Europe, dirt in Australia to snow roads in Northern Europe. Since first Dirt game I feel there is lack of content or rather there is too much of it (rallycross, rally, gymkhana etc.) that from outside it looks a lot, but when we start playing it quickly become repetitive. For me it really a huge issue, because even great number of cars, outstanding graphics and impressive handling can't change that feel of emptiness after hour or two.

      @HDB112 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's about quality or quantity. Dirt 4 offered a generic system that made stages on the spot. Almost endless variation of stages. I however extremely prefer DR2, because even though there are not tons of stages (in my opinion enough though), because they are of a very high quality, there are various conditions to ride them in and they are difficult to master. Took me hours and hours to get on the 1st spot of the global leaderboards of Jezioro Lukie (Group A, Poland) but I loved it. DR2 gives feels authenthic. DR2 made me buy a racing seat. DR2 is a gem.

    Jimmy, it would be absolutely fantastic if you could do a serious career mode in this. What I mean by serious? I mean: with the commitment level like that of ILMS or something like that. Minimum of speaking during a stage, so that you could actually focus on the pacenotes and let us hear them, too :). Don't get me wrong: I love your narration, I really do. But when playing a rally game it just doesn't make any sense and takes out a lot of fun of watching it. Contrary to what some racing afficionados might think, rallying is actually not about throwing the car right and left on the road, just trying to survive and carry some speed: it's about committing to corners based on a rough idea of what's coming. Without the driver listening to pacenotes, this is very messy and gets to be tedious to watch. I'm not referring to this particular video, because I understand its intended purpose, but I'm talking about your potential future videos. Perhaps I'm alone in this suggestion, but maybe there are more people like me, who would be waiting for every new episode of a career mode series in which you would drive the rallies in a real rally simulating mode: there's plenty of time before and after a stage to do some quality narration.
    Love what you're doing, Jimmy! Keep it up!

    Hey jimmy,
    I am in no way a rally driver but I've done some running on the dirt roads in Georgia at pretty decent speeds. 50-60mph.
    Ruts; if you absolutely can not avoid them then order of operations are as follows.
    1. Cross rut at sharpest angle possible.
    If impossible.
    2. Place the rut on inside of turn on inside of the tire. Rut on driver side, keep it on driver side and Visa versa.
    While doing this you should always look for ways around it but it is always good to attack the rut at it most predictable point. For bad ruts it's almost always better to go around/cut. I use to live in the farm lands on dirt/ orange clay road. The tractors left huge car totalling ruts if it rained. Like rip the a frame right out if you hit it wrong. We use to race the dirt roads in old beaters. 83 oldsmobile, caprice, box Chevys.

      I'm a tester on the forums, and we're chatting about the tarmac. It's still not 100%, and sometimes the ass end seems to float around a little bit, but overall it's massively better than DR, and even though like Jimmy here I don't love the FFB it's more consistent across cars and surface types. Early on in the testing we had some prototype builds and from what all of us recall, the FFB and tarmac were better then than now, so we're not sure what changed.
      I guess to put it simply, I'd say DR tarmac was like... 50%. 60 if you're being generous. DR2 is more in ~90% range. It's not on AC levels or anything, but it's a massive improvement still.

    I hope as much flavour from DiRT 4 is retained as possible, specifically the in-engine menus/screens and team management/customisation. That flavour doesn't impact the core gameplay but it makes me feel like I'm part of something exciting that draws crowds of people, and wasn't just racing for racing's sake like DiRT Rally and many other physics focused racing games. I'm still waiting on a rally game that simulates more of the real life experience, such as driving the transitional stages in between special stages and to/from the service area, nursing any damage and performing any field repairs that would be allowed.
    I noticed here thay they mixed 70s Group 4, 80s Group 4 and RWD Group A into a single class, which would be about as fair as racing an F2004 against a Lotus 25.

    • @JZStudiosonline
      @JZStudiosonline 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the main menu system a lot more, it's cleaner and easier to navigate. You still have the sort of "in game menu" at the service stations between events. Team Management is... sort of there? I haven't been able to buy any new engineers yet, but the game gives you the co-driver, a head engineer, and standard engineer that seem to have no contract periods. I don't know about any ones you can "buy" later yet. They do all have things you can upgrade on them though.
      There's also the drive through finish to the marshal, which I aim directly for. If you drive straight into him you don't actually have to stop and you don't get any damage or penalties. XD
      Otherwise it's pretty similar with a service station every few events where you can do tunings, repairs, and tire changes.

    Since Richard Burns Rally I haven't played a good, realistic rally game. My test is: start the game, try to drive and if I don't crash in one of first three curves, game is not good. It took me like 50 repeats on one stage of Richard Burns to have it perfect. With Dirt series it was one dissapoint after another, you could virtualy finish the game without crashing once. And I can tell you, if you are not experienced with a high powered car, you will crash in Mitsubishi Lancer Evo on first few curves on a real rally stage. Seeing that Jimmy didn't crash once during this stage, I am inclined to have doubts about this game.

It looks almost synced to the RPM, and lifting throughout the stage seems to visibly wipe off a lot more speed than I'd expect for the amount of time you lifted for. That could just be me not fully understanding just how much a car like that slows when driving on such a surface though. There a bit about 11:15 where the car goes from 130 down to 80, back up to 120, then down 0 as you go around the corner, and that just seems wrong to me.

      yeah, i see his foot hard on the gas going around corners which without lots of countersteer at the exact right moment would spin you out. in dr 1 you had to be very gentle with gas around corners and be off throttle if the back tries to go around too much. not sure im seeing that here, didnt notice him countersteering much around corners either.. on the few occasions i was looking for it anyway it looked like he had the wheel turned to the right while sliding around a right hand turn.. instead of countersteering to the left. but then again i still struggle to drift in assetto corsa so i dont want dirt rally to suddenly feel impossible to drive...
      then again with 540 degree steering (or whatever low wheel rotation you prefer) does make it a lot easier. and i still try 900 degree in assetto corsa, and with a g29 its just too hard to react and spin the wheel far enough fast enough.. for me anyway.
      overall looks good, but i think it could do with being a bit harder not to spin out and require a bit more countersteering and slightly lower cornering speed. for this particular rwd anyway.. but i am still a noob so i dont really know what im talking about i better add.. ;)

      I liked the FFB in Greece, but I'm agreeing with Jimmy on 2.0. It's not very communicative. I don't really get any gravel feel, so right now the most I get from the wheel is the cattle guards (which honestly feel near perfect) big jumps, and the general centering force. The biggest improvement is the "stability" between all the cars and levels/surfaces being more equal, so you no longer really need to fiddle with multiple FFB presets based on the surface type.
      I doubt Jimmy got to try it, but we had a super early test demo and the FFB felt much improved then, so I'm not entirely sure why it seems to have been dampened now.

    Well, I'm gonna start with the obvious one, Audi Quattro E2 with 100% FFB :D
    PS. Fun fact: although the game has the "S1 E2" name, it's not actually correct. The S1 actually refers to the "Sport Rallye" version of the Quattro, aka the one from the first DiRT Rally. This one is E2. The reason for the name difference is that between the S1 and E2 releases, FIA changed their naming rules, so all the cars had to be named "Evolutions". If it wasn't for that, the E2 would be called S2.
    The whole naming confusion is so mangled up that Audi's licensing department doesn't even know what's what anymore, thus it licenses it sometimes as "S1" and sometimes as "S1 E2".
    For more insight, here's a good read: www.ableitet.no/twentyS1/s1vse2.htm

      The official name is Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. The S1 is the shortened version of the original Quattro, which was called the Audi Quattro A1/A2. With the added aero kit the S1 became the S1 E1 which they ran for the 1984-1985 season. They upgraded the E1 and then it became the legendary S1 E2 that Audi ran for the 85-86 season.
      It's really confusing, i know.

      True RBR is still a game, but the online championships require much deeper immersion into “thinking” like a pro driver, nursing a sick car seems to contain more anxiety than it does in Dirt, trying to decide which tyres for a leg with a mixture of surfaces and conditions and driving accordingly is more “”stressful”, Dirt is more pick up and play in any mode, RBR is only that in solo mode and even then it requires a higher level of concentration, I’ve seen myself take half an hour of Dirt after an RBR session just to lighten up.

    What a clickbait title... these games cannot even be compared. The first one is a nice rally game for advanced players (Dirt: Rally) and the second one is the rally ecosystem for people who want to get as close to real rally as possible. So even if Dirt: Rally offers proper physics (I admit it feels less arcadish now - the car finally seems to have some weight), it just cannot beat the complexity of RBR - the online championships, trophies, teams consisting and managed by real people, reality based events (i.e. Monte-Carlo rally where you can be forced to drive with slicks on snow) where you have chance to compare with real rally drivers (the best RBR drivers are mostly real drivers), way more content because the modding possibility (tracks, cars, VR etc.), way more precise force feedback, editable and detailed pacenotes etc...
    I don't want to hate Dirt: Rally, it is a nice game (I love DR sound especially!) and even RBR is far from perfect, but - besides it's still very simplified physics - it would need to offer the same level of complexity and modability so the RBR community can even start thinking about switching.

      @Nick Cassetta force feedback doesn't pretend to be realistic, it's role is to substitute missing connection with the actual car, it gives the information about what is the car actually doing so you can drive it properly. In RBR the response is so detailed that you exactly know when you are loosing grip, what is the surface you are driving on, what is the damage, detect locking wheels while braking etc. In Dirt the FFB is just a fun factor.

    • @jendabekCZ
      @jendabekCZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cougar231000 RBR is the only real simulator because no other rally game uses actual simulation for the physics - in RBR the car's behavior is a result of a math modelling of each car component, using exact data and real-world units. All other rally games works with a "driving model" that is tweaked for each car so it behaves like it should, using much simplified formular (look-up tables) = more limited and imprecise, not reacting to advanced driving techniques & conditions. Thats just how it works internally and why we can clearly tell what is a simulator and what is a challenging game. And just a note - even simulation can be imprecise of it doesn't work with correct data or doesn't implement necessary computations, so I don't say RBR is absolutely perfect.
