      Monte Carlo is actually big upgrade over the first one (physics wise). It's much more challenging and realistic this time, with truly hazardous ice patches and ice sections. It has become my favourite stage out of all stages in DR 2.0, I hated it in DR 1. Sweden is more visual upgrade though. And bringing Germany sucks, we don't need tarmac rallies with (still) bad tarmac physics. Should have remastered Finland or Wales

      The price isn't that terrible when you consider that the Deluxe edition is double the price of Dirt Rally 1 and comes with double the stages, (at least after they're finished releasing them) but it still feels wrong to be paying extra for something that came with the original game's base price; even more so if you're a returning player and now buying the same thing twice.

AND its missing the pikes peak hill climb. sequels are supposed to expand off the base game, not offer the exact same, or less amount of features. dirt rally 1 was already pretty lackluster on content, its not out of the realm of possibility to have 8-9 rally stages to ship with a full priced game. you act like doing the bare minimum (tweaking the game engine, and offering a few new stages) is commendable.

      how? at least with games like forza 5,6,and 7 they take the base game and add to it. each iteration has more and more stages. If forza went the dirt rally 2.0 route, forza 7 would have shipped completely missing the nurburgring, and later on they will re sell you hockenhiem, spa, and, monza for an extra 30 bucks. with each iteration of forza there is a bigger number of cars, tracks, and features such as forza vista available on every car. they ADD to the game. not take away.

    The winter tyres/tires (however you say it) has spikes sticking out. The more ice it is, the more grip you have, or else you just slips on the snow, gravel or tarmac. Sometimes you can find a spike or two that the rallycar dropped if you're lucky.

    • @TheClassicWorld
      @TheClassicWorld 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure 'tyre' is British English and elsewhere and 'tire' is the North American spelling. Interestingly, Canada also uses the American 'tire', yet Canada normally uses British English, not American.

  • @Case_
    @Case_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Why wasn't this in the base game? I'd hazard a guess - money and time.
    The base game includes six brand new countries - same as the original Dirt Rally for the same amount of money (talking about the final version here, not about the early access). Let's just assume that six countries was all they could manage to include in the base game, again, due to financial and time reasons (because we have to remember that if this was included in the base game, it would need to be done several months back, and it's pretty clear they are still working on it before they release these DLC). Would you rather have six brand new countries with new stages, or a mix of new and updated content? Which countries would you leave as DLC and which you would include in the base game? It's a no-win scenario in that case - people will complain either way. If you only include the new countries and sell the updated old ones as DLC, you will have people complaining that "it's recycled content sold as DLC and should've been in the base game on release". If you include some of the updated old countries and some of the new ones, you will once again have people complain that the game has recycled content and you have to pay to get the new stuff. Like I said, a no-win scenario. I mean you yourself are complaining about how "it's the same stage as before"...would you be complaining less if this was included instead of one of the new countries the game features? Yes, in an ideal world, the base game would contain both new content and the old updated one. But we don't live in an ideal world, and compromises have to be made quite often. And it really doesn't have to be because the company is greedy or something like that - it might simply be a matter of what's feasible and what is not.
    At least when it's done like this, with the new content included in the base game and the old updated content sold as DLC, you can completely ignore the DLC if you're not interested in running the old stages again in the new game with updated visuals and physics. And it also has to be said the pricing of the Dirt Rally 2 DLC is as user-friendly as it gets - car DLC costs 2 euro per car and country DLC costs 3 euro. Since the DLC is released every two weeks either two cars or a new country, that means on average, you're required to pay less than 2 euro per week to get all the DLC. That's pretty much as cheap as it can get, even for people on a tight budget. And there's also always the chance that if the DLC sell well, we might get more original content later. Oh, and you also don't have to own the DLC to be able to race the stages online - that's also a pretty nice gesture in my book.

    • @AT-zg4xs
      @AT-zg4xs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly! but your point on Jimmy's comment of 'its the same stage as before', yeah they are, but they are IRL stages rather than the shit (IMO) computer generated stages. so its like someone complaining about the next release of AC has exactly the same Monza... well.. yeah.. of course it does... although i will agree that it would of been nice to have had a cheeky new short stage in there maybe, but as you say, when they weight up the time vs what's feasible

Initially I was sceptical but as time goes by and FFB/Tarmac physics are left unfixed I can't help but wonder; What's really new in DR2.0 aside from the physics and locations that should justify such a high price?

      @@Dockhead It's not like we have that much of an option when it comes to high development budget rally games. It's either this or the WRC series. I believe most rally fans bought DR2 regardless of its reviews, simply because they needed something fresh. Again, there's nothing massively wrong with the game, it's just the price and the DLC policy that's bugging me.

      The community was cirlce-jerking over the fact that there wasn't a Dirt Rally 2.0 and now we have one. The ffb issue is being used as an argument left and right like it's ruining the entirety of the game when in reality it's not even that bad (the only issue is not feeling the texure of the road. The springs, the counter-steer effect and everything else is absolutely fine.) What else, the AI is a step above what it was in DR where you could breeze through master easily, there's a broader selection of car, it is now possible to do rally stages online with your friend without having to deal with the bullshit leagues system, there's different tires compound, the physic is way more realistic than in the first one, do you want me to continue?
      "BuT THe BaSE mAps ShOULd HaVE beEn In gaMe !!11!" fuck off, if they did include these base maps you'd complain either way because "WhY diD tHEy NoT InCLuDe NeW mAps InSTeAd of olD oNeS??!?" And you can get all the DLCs by selling your steam trading cards.

      @Case_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All of the "old" stages released so far feel very different (for the better) than DR, and look better as well. Monte Carlo especially has been transformed in its DR2 incarnation, with the various surfaces (tarmac, wet tarmac, snow, ice) now having a significant impact on the handling, so you really have to be mindful of your line, because one snow/ice patch in the middle of the corner or in a braking zone can make your day interesting.

      @@Case_ Of course, the term 'interesting' in Chess normally means 'bad [move]'. Also, nice profile picture, it makes me think of Brandon Lee, son of the great Bruce Lee, in The Crow. Also, I don't see there being an issue with regards to it being any better than the prior game (worth the money or not, that is). If you're serious about sim racing/rallying, then, you're going to happily buy this, even just for minor improvements, and if not, then you're going to stay with the first or some other game, so, there's really nothing to talk about. A brief explanation on why modern games are released without a full quota of content: Modern games with their high levels of graphical and gameplay detail take a ridiculously long time and a lot of money to put together, you can shorten this timescale by throwing money, manpower and resources at the problem but this is only really an option if the sales returns outweigh the inflated costs. Racing games are not really all that profitable and therefore developers are unwilling to throw money at the problem in order to get a highly polished product out the door on launch day because they'll never see a return on that investment. As such, games are developed to an initial budget with the intention of releasing a playable but unfinished game by a set date and then putting some of the release sales profits back into continuing the development and hoping to reach full product development within a year.
    Unfortunately we as the consumer are kind of to blame for this model needing to be implemented, we demand more and more innovation in less and less time and as such the quality begins to slip. We assume that because the games industry keeps cranking out content that it must be easy but in truth it's not, it gets harder with every generation and we could well be heading to a future where pay to play becomes the only sustainable option.

Add in cinematics before during and after the rallies, multiple pace note voiceovers, actual gameplay upgrades instead of sim gimmicks then it will be a $60 game.

    Because the answer is super simple " Bussiness " that DLC should not be in the base game. Technology costs a lot which means the game price should be increased or use DLC system like this. For a long game, the tag remains the same $60 for game unlikely prices around for absolutely everything like iPhone from "$600 to $1200" but everybody ok with that. If we want great games without crappie DLC each game must cost $90-$95. Simple example Playstation 2 game cost $5 million with the price tag $60, for the same game from scratch for PlayStation 3 development increase(because of the expensive Tech) from $5 million to $15 million but the price tag remains the same $60. That's the reason we are lost game series like Dead Space EA try to save that series two times.
