I can't wait to work somewhere where business casual is the norm. Really hoping there's something like that in the environmental science realm but I am doubting it unless it's in an office or consulting. Crossing my fingers.

I love ties, I wish I had more opportunities to wear them, but at 20 years old and still in school, it's definitely not a common occurrence

You’ll find excellent, high value ties at resale shops for pennies. It won’t be long before you’ll be invited to many weddings and evening events. Suits and jackets in your size will be easy to find to and you can have them altered if necessary at the dry cleaners for much less than many tailors. Happy treasure hunting!

One of the things I've always been good at, is finding a reason to wear a tie. For example, family gatherings, work milestones, dressing up for a nice day out, or just wearing one around the house for the heck of it. Whenever I'm feeling confident, I'll show up in a tie, because that's just who I am. I don't think ties or suits will ever go out of style, as long as you know how to put it all together.

I always wore a shirt and tie at least twice a week since my senior year of high school. I had about six ties then. The collection has grown from my own purchases to gifts from my family and can now wear a different tie every day for two months straight.

While I do not dress up as much as Sven, it’s nice being the best dressed man in the room with a sports coat and knit tie. Cheers!!

I've seen the decline of tie use in business settings, however I still look for opportunities to wear one whenever possible. This video has inspired me to look even further. I recently purchased 3 high end silk ties from a Goodwill Store in the "high rent" district of Atlanta for $3 apiece. Ties are one of the easiest ways to elevate your look.

It would be a cool feature on your site to have a feature where you pick one of each of the five in your desired color as a package deal. Each tie range would have to be the same cost per type. Customers could then start their wardrobe with 5 proven ties.

I'm also a programmer that works from home. Recently I've been having fun dressing up to go work from another location like the coffee shop or library :-) One advantage to this I've found is that since I'm relatively anonymous no one is really surprised by me being dressed nicely or expecting me to look any particular way, so I can experiment with different looks with less pressure. Although, I do get positive comments sometimes from people which is nice!

Great video. I mourn the slow death of the necktie. I’ve been thrifting for several years and have a collection which likely rivals Raphael’s. At 45, I have no opportunities to wear them. Knits and repps are my favorite.

I'd really love a nice paisley tie or two. or more. Sadly pickings in my neck of the woods (the Baltics) have been slim, when it comes to both new and second hand pieces. I even heard some call these as "outdated and soviet", which is preposterous to say the least. When it comes to patterned ties, repp stripes seem to be most common.

Is it okay to not have a knit tie?? I personally do not care for the visual texture of knit ties, or how their knots tend to come out. I do like different types of textures and weaves in neckties, but I think knit ties are too chunky maybe? For me at least.

Me personally, I get the most compliments on my knit ties. I usually wear my ties without a suit, only a shirt with/without a vest, and people are more interested in the knitted ties, probably because it has been less common these past few decades.

I'm somewhat with you on knit ties. I like fancy-shmancy red, patterned ties. Knit ties are a bit too plain for my tastes, but I'll take them over solid silk or wool. I think it's totally okay not to be into them. The only time tie detail really matters is with black or white tie. Otherwise, as another commenter said, they're an expression of taste and, as such, should reflect yours.

Yes the "casualization" of sartorial America continues. I watch a lot of mid-century movies, like North by Northwest, and back then everyone wore suits, and many wore fedoras. Much classier in the 1950's and before, and even the early and mid 1960's. I don't think we'll ever swing back that way.

They wear baseball caps on their head, and they do not know anything about a suit and a tie. A lot of people in our society are wearing denim jeans with holes in them, reflecting low self-esteem. You can walk into a hip-hop store and the main items that you will see are t-shirts and tennis shoes.

Pre-owned and charity shops are the place to buy really first class ties. As men that bought them saved them for "best" often never wore them, then died and the female staff at these shops that process clothing have no idea what they are handling.

    I love ties!
What I don't love are what I have seen people wear instead of ties.
Bandanas, bolo ties, chunky and tacky gold chains, even the occasional ascot, are just horrific!

With regards to job interviews, do not wear a tie for a job interview for the tech side of a tech company. Sweater and shirt is what you want. If you are in, say, sales or finance, a tie is appropriate.

Knit ties are hideous, but each to their own. For funerals I wear a purple silk tie on a black shirt.

Sad to say, but every gentleman needs a plain black tie. For funerals.
