The part where you talk about Japanese guys flirting aggressively is so relatable! I went to a club with my friends and random guys kept coming up to me calling me cute and trying to grab my cheeks (on my face lol). In Osaka I went to a club again and some guys were touching my hair and tried to hug me as soon as they started talking to me, and one of them even tried to kiss me! As an American who’s been living in Japan for a while, that was a huge shock for me

I can't stop laughing while watching this. I can't imagine Japanese guys would behave in a very hilarious manner when drunk. 笑笑 I also have no idea that such simple words of appreciation or gratitude would mean so much to them. Thank you for sharing this interesting topic Santi san, it really made my day. 😅😅

It is a bit odd compared to my own culture. If an American did the exact same form of flirting, I'd think he was flattering me or just being nice. Haha, it's hard for me to tell. The way you explained Japanese flirting, it feels more sincere since they don't express their feelings often.
I actually only ever liked one guy who lived in Japan and he would say exactly those comments. I didn't think he liked me though, so I wish I knew this before giving up lol. But maybe it wasn't meant to be. 😅

I am a European and in my homeland the term: nice is defined as a person who is kind and affectionate to others. So if a Japanese, knowing a bit about the culture of my country, tells me that I am: nice, can I think that he is just giving me a compliment, but he does not see me as a woman, or will it always be a flirt for him?

I think the aggression of guys when they are drunk is a release from not being able to relate to girls when they are sober. All that pinned up oppression comes out strongly when their inhibitions are released when drunk. It's very simple logic really. Nota good, but easy to understand.

@@japaneseman My question is about something that I think some people, Westerners especially, will hear when they express interest in moving to Japan, usually from other Westerners and rarely Japanese, and that’s “You’ll never be Japanese.” It’s usually meant to disparage the person expressing interest in living in Japan. Obviously, only a crazy person would think they could ever just physically become Japanese by moving to Japan but I think what they mean is “You’ll never be Japanese, not even socially or culturally.” The implication is that you’ll always be “the foreigner”, you’ll never be Japanese. As a born and raised American, this idea is a little foreign to me since I’ve always felt that anyone from anywhere can move to America and be pretty much accepted as socially and culturally American within a decade at most if they really want to, race and politics aside. You can please give your own experience in America. It’s difficult for me to think that in countries like Japan, someone could never be accepted as even socially or culturally Japanese after living there for a long time and adapting perfectly to the culture. I’ve asked Japanese people about this and they usually just say something like “I think it’s the language” or “I think it’s the social norms” (like the type you’ve described in your videos). But that still feels a bit like dodging the question. So I guess my question is:
Is it true that no matter what, foreigners will always be merely foreigners in Japan and will never be Japanese or is that something that falsely circulates among bitter Westerners with an axe to grind? Ultimately, I think it’s not so important for people wanting to live in Japan but it would be a lie to say that those who hear it don’t think about it, I think. Thanks in advance if you answer this question.

Great video. I think you could be flirting if you say "your hair looks cute" in the US as well, it depends on how you compliment. Flirting is a little more subtle and entertaining than talking an dancing. It's more like showing interest and putting meaning in what you do with a woman, creating a good vibe/connection.
Teasing, as in joking or critizing in a playful manner, is considered flirting, and in this case there should be a high level of context (smiling, laughing, eye contact, and making light physical contact if/when appropriate). But flirting in short and in my opinion, implies being playful and showing interest in a romantic way at least in the Americas.
