I agree with the multiple listens conjuring more appreciation for the band. When you start anticipating all the switching of tempos and time signatures and you learn how to nod your head to the rhythm, it feels like you've solved a puzzle and is incredibly satisfying.
Couldn't have put it better. Like for me with Rosetta stoned. I was already a Tool fan but that song didn't click with me. Too much going on, I always skipped it. Years later I listened to it again and then again the next day and now it's one of my favourites.
30:24 That's the point when my eyes start flooding every time. Maynard's mom was a believer and he is not, but how he still says he wishes that her mother will find heaven after passing is just something that breaks me. So beautiful.
I didn't get a chance to watch at lunch today, but I will for sure! Your original reaction to 10,000 Days was the first video of yours that I ever watched. I appreciated how respectful you were of the track and its meaning. Been hanging around ever since!
Glad we’re back to Tool again so soon. Thanks Brian/Bryan. Thanks Jim! I’m gearing up to celebrate Maynard’s birthday with him at the Sessanta show in LA this weekend. Anyone else gonna be there or at the other Sessanta shows?
Thanks Jim. Well, it’s been almost two decades since the album’s release and damn, has it aged well (just like Maynard’s wines?). Mind you, I think that applies to all TOOL albums. Wings for Marie Parts 1 & 2 combined is such a touching, haunting tribute to his mother , it never ceases to hit hard.
Saw Tool for the first time in 92’. I’ve been a believer ever since. 10,000 days is my favorite start to finish album. Embodies their power, creativity and lyrical brilliance. Every member has spotlight moments and topically the lyrics are incredibly relatable. Sonically, it’s one of the best albums of all time. Love this band so much♥️🤘
MJK stated back in 06 that " 10 000 DAYS " was Tools Blues album. And considering the themes and allusions contained within, brilliantly realised by the way, it's hard to disagree. Outstanding!
You're original reaction to Wings and 10,000 days was one of the most raw and incredible reactions I have experienced....you were obvious;y moved and in my opinion bothered by it, I believe you said you felt like a voyeur....and the quote was "not exactly music to entertain to"....Jim, you're fantastic mate......keep it up
This was my first attempt to listen to a concerted period of Tool music. Previously it had been one song here and there. I loved every moment. It almost felt like I was hypnotised, or in a trance. I'm so pleased I took the plunge so really looking forward to the next part. Thanks Jim.
Timestamp: 17:27 before the breakdown on Jambi. Chancellor's bass ( i think ) is such a unique note, it's so skeletal and almost hardly there, totally wrung dry of any richness or body. But it fits so perfectly to dissipate the charisma of Jones talk box guitar solo that it demands a mention. The entire breakdown of Jambi is insanely good in all four departments. Outstanding.
I always think of my Grandmother in Wings Part 2. She was the most un-wavering pillar of faith I have ever known. "You're the only one who can hold your head up high Shake your fist at the gates saying "I have come home now Fetch me the Spirit, the Son, and the Father Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended It's time now My time now Give me my Give me my wings"
'Wings' hits fully on so many levels, but when the first beats of Days roll in, it does something deeper than the Mariana trench that's almost personal and indescribable.
10,000 days was incredibly polarizing when it came out. I think fans were expecting Lateralus II 😂 It’s a different album for Tool. I think it showcases each individual members strength, Adam Jones and Danny Carey in particular. I love the album and hearing the songs live in 2006 was incredible. My fave track is Intension because it’s so unusual and beautiful. So great your reviewing this glorious album 🤘
By the way thanks for your silence, your respect of the art and your visible emotion (not faked, you were really gone) makes your video different from the others and unique. Who need fake words after listening to these songs?
i've listened to this album so many times... and yeah, i'll say for sure imo that the first few go throughs are far less enjoyable than once you finally start to wrap your head around what you're actually listening to. there is a lot going on. that's what makes it so rewarding to listen to once you actually get the song. for all tool songs.
I always have to listen to a song twice to decide if I like it. The band Sleep Token was a perfect example of that. Their song the summoning was a masterpiece but I needed a second listen to come to that realization
saw them most recently in november in toronto. they brought out alex lifeson to play with them when they played jambi. he took over for the talk box part. it was freaking amazing.
I always appreciated Tool's dedication to the artwork/experience of owning the artwork/album/packaging...but honestly, I'm willing to give it up for what streaming has given us. And I'd gladly pay triple what I pay if it would go to the actual musicians. I think that day will come...
I saw tool for the first time in 1997 without knowing who they were. By the end of the first song i already knew that this was my new favorite band and i wanted to know everything i could about them (harder to do in 97) music is art for the ears..and my interest had been piqued and has never stopped. Love the content Jim!
I was there firsthand when this album leaked right before release and I torrented it. There was tons of chatter online about it being a decoy album, a lot of people thought it was terrible. Honestly when it came out I thought it was mediocre too, but I was hung up on Lateralus like many pseudo intellectual Tool fans are and were. Years later now that I'm older it's one of my favorites, I actually this album as a whole more than Lateralus now. It's a little less pretentious, the mix is better, and there are a lot of songs on Lateralus that you really need to be in the mood for to sit there and take in, like Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. Now Undertow or 10,000 Days are about tied for what I listen to most. Fear Inoculum gets a lot of play time too but there are some pretty weak tracks on there.
This is the one Tool album I don't really listen to fully because of Wings for Marie. I just can't. The song is incredibly beautiful but it tears me up too much.
I've confessed before that I like some sub-genres of metal (thrash, black, doom, death) and really can't stand others (power, nu, hair/glam) Prog-metal is generally good though I prefer it to be more prog than metal. Now, Tool fit nicely into the prog-metal category though that, like prog generally, is a broad church - Tool sound very little like Dream Theater for instance. Not sure where I'm going with this comment so I'll just end by saying (at the very high risk of sounding pretentious) that Tool are the thinking man's metal.
Hi Jim, Another try with Tool. Still a big no go area for me after a few minutes. I still don’t like the singer’s voice and the type of distortion on the guitar. I won’t try Tool again.

Well said. We have to listen to understand the proper flow,... only THEN can TOOL be understood.
Never a wrong time to listen to the mighty Tool.
Oooh I love this album
30:24 That's the point when my eyes start flooding every time. Maynard's mom was a believer and he is not, but how he still says he wishes that her mother will find heaven after passing is just something that breaks me. So beautiful.
He says her love saved him. 😊
This album was a grower for sure. It took a bit for it to fully bake in for me. Some of their best work, though.
I loved it when it came out but it took me a bit to really appreciate it. I absolutely love it now ❤
I think I was barely 20 when it came out. Still a knucklehead, ya know? It took a bit but I'm glad I'm here now.
just Lateralus leftovers
My favorite Tool album.
I didn't get a chance to watch at lunch today, but I will for sure!

Have you? You should have said hello 🤣!!!! Thanks so much buddy!
Glad we’re back to Tool again so soon. Thanks Brian/Bryan. Thanks Jim!

Yep! Chicago on May 1st! Can't wait!!
Have fun!

Thanks for pointing out that On Track book. I ordered a copy for myself.
I missed a trick there! I've just put my affiliate link into the description!

Wow, thank you
I love Tool❣️ They are monumental.. beyond words..🔥✨🎶

So glad you enjoyed this!
Well this is an automatic LIKE ! Thanks Jim!

That's an interesting thought about Jambi possibly being a future reference to the proceeding tracks. Makes sense!
The best band of my lifetime!

This is the first time I've given Tool a proper listen. Not what I was expecting, not bad so far.
i've listened to this album so many times... and yeah, i'll say for sure imo that the first few go throughs are far less enjoyable than once you finally start to wrap your head around what you're actually listening to. there is a lot going on. that's what makes it so rewarding to listen to once you actually get the song. for all tool songs.
Returning to good ol’ Mallard! 🌀🌀🌀🦆🦆🦆👏👏👏
In had to retire him!
Wings for Marie is probably my favorite song ever, yet I rarely listen to it because it's so devastating
I always have to listen to a song twice to decide if I like it. The band Sleep Token was a perfect example of that. Their song the summoning was a masterpiece but I needed a second listen to come to that realization

no talk box, but him emulating it with his guitar.
Tool is supreme in the prog metal scene!
Sometime art is hard with us.
Such a profound, personal (even though it is an album by a band), it is an experience, to move your invisible soul.
I always appreciated Tool's dedication to the artwork/experience of owning the artwork/album/packaging...but honestly, I'm willing to give it up for what streaming has given us. And I'd gladly pay triple what I pay if it would go to the actual musicians. I think that day will come...
I couldn't say, that I have a favourite Tool album, since each one has some great songs, but I surely can say, that Jambi is my favourite Tool song 🤘
It is amazing!
In all the years I've listened, I never focused on the storm until now.
Has that always been there?!
It's more than 'just one note', it's either side of each juggajugga!
Each one sounds different on the up and downstrokes!
I saw tool for the first time in 1997 without knowing who they were. First time listening to Tool....No really. I like. Re the Pink Floyd bassline. One of these days.
Yes!
Owner of many of the records you`re presenting here. Peace Out! 🙂
This is the one Tool album I don't really listen to fully because of Wings for Marie. I just can't. The song is incredibly beautiful but it tears me up too much.
unpopular opinion, but this is the best Tool album
5 years ago... Approximately 1/4 of the way between Tool albums 😅

...one marriage ago 😂😂😂😂
Well, you know!
I find Tool a wee bit too thrashy, too industrial for my tastes, good band though.
Too industrial!? I'm not sure Tool even qualify under that category. Probably best skip NIN in that case then hehe
Hi Jim,
