I always thought the Chipettes looked very human-like in the original cartoon and it always confused me. My six year old brain in the 90's: "But why would chipmunks fall in love with humans??" The one and only thing I liked about the reboots was that everyone looked like chipmunks, but the story from the 80's movie was far superior.

Simple, lots of the cartoon episodes released on DVD were based on other holidays, so I'm guessing they wanted to mix up the holiday concept apart from Christmas. Which was the first original special theme as well as a parody of "the Christmas Carol". The other holidays were only 1 time episodes or so. Plus, there are some references from the animated movies that are nice reminders of the original horror movies. For example, Frankenstein, the spooky castle, crazy doctor, and theme are references from the original Frankenstein. The wolf references, ways of killing a werewolf, Talbot, and the monkshood plant are references to the original Werewolf movie. There are some differences though, like no Egore in the animated Chipmunks version, and how getting bit by the werewolf that bit you can change you back to normal. But yeah. That's my explanation
Even as a kid and watching the first movie in theaters, David Cross was my favorite part of the movie. I felt the serotonin boost every time he came on screen.

Have you considered reviewing there movies where they met Frankenstein and Wolf Man. Many consider them to be non canon, but I personally think anything can be better then seeing them in live action
I remember loving the Frankenstein one though I don’t remember much about the movie itself. I just remember the scene where they were cooking together and thought it was sweet.
Weirdly enough those movies would constantly play on Disney XD but I’ve only seen like the last 20-25 minutes of the Frankenstein movie and I never seen the Wolfman movie in a single sitting.
My sister loves these movies to death. I only really enjoyed them because I was younger when they came out and I enjoyed that humor. After watching these reviews on there own like 6 times each I have concluded that they are indeed weird but I add of Doug's extra bits to it in my head upon Rewatch.
I honestly hope he does review the cartoon movies cause the live action movies actually introduced me to the cartoons. (Which I love more let's be honest here)
My biggest question about these movies is who thought it was a good idea to turn these memorable characters into live action movies? This is not only about Alvin and the Chipmunks, but various others like Garfield, Jem, Yogi Bear, The Smurfs or Underdog.

This. I love rewatching these, Caddicarus, etc. Whenever I'm playing games, working, or painting. They're both great for casual watching and as a backdrop for other things. It's fitting that Nostalgia Critic has become nostalgic. This is one of few series that gets better and more professional the longer it runs. Everyone here's really grown into their own, I love it.

I'd just like to point out that the first movie, easily the best of the three (wait, there were four? Shit...) had the same premise as most Chip and Dale shorts, including a great Christmas one, and even the worst of their shorts beat this full-length movie for quality. When the Chipmunks are a far more recognisable and marketable series with a better record of quality movies and shorts, that's kind of a travesty.

I'd just like to point out that the first movie, easily the best of the three (wait, there were four? Shit...) had the same premise as most Chip and Dale shorts, including a great Christmas one, and even the worst of their shorts beat this full-length movie for quality.
When the Chipmunks are a far more recognisable and marketable series with a better record of quality movies and shorts, that's kind of a travesty.
47:04 That, and the fact that they have soundtracks made up of songs that were big hits at the time. Thank goodness they didn't make any more of these films after the fourth one because listening to them butcher The Weeknd would've probably driven me insane.

I guess he’s ok in my opinion. When he yells Alvin’s name, it sounds like there’s no effort to it tho, although it is nostalgic to me.
