It definitely was being written in the early 2000s and was just never put into production due to not having the right basketball star to be in it as Jordan was retired for good
@@averageant7173 Or its almost like there was a Matrix reference in it, because a Matrix movie is coming out in 2021 so they decided they needed to use a reference from the other 3 films......But the idea of another Space Jam has been around since the early 2000s because there had been talk about doing it as a hockey sequel or a baseball sequel.....But clearly Matrix references were used to remind people about Matrix 4
Fun fact: the scene where all the WB characters run to the basketball game took one year for them to make. This honestly makes me feel even more sorry for the animators who worked on this.
Why did this have to be in a video game yet also toon world? Just pick 1 and dedicate to it. You can't have bugs bunny perform a glitch then explain his survival on him being a toon.
@@mrrunodan8119 But it didn't make any sense. They're presented for the whole movie as being programs in a huge simulation. How are they also Toons? Did they exist before the server was built? Were they trapped in it at some point? How could they just leave when they felt like it? Why didn't they leave before? Could any of the other programs there leave? Pennywise? King Kong? Superman? How do people enter or leave the simulation in the first place? TRON did a better job explaining the rules of that world, and they were consistent about it.
Biggest flaw of the movie: All the other movies with the looney Tunes shoved in looked way more interesting. I mean Mad Max Fury Road with Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote...and Nasty Canasty for some reason. I wonder who Immortan Joe would be? My money is on Foghorn Leghorn.
I thought it was really cool to see other characters at the end, especially since we didn't get that in the first movie and I was thoroughly entertained by this.
Utilizing the airheaded blonde Lola version would've been interesting, that's for sure. "Bugs you're not going to believe this. There's a guy standing on the side of the road who looks just like you. _I'm about to hit him._ " * Bugs jumps out of the way of the moving car *
@@randomgrmlin Can't remember, unfortunately. After getting either bored or frustrated at it, I decided I didn't want to watch it more than once... I did know it had something to do with Bugs taking Lola to court on it... It has been a few years after all...
The biggest problem with the movie, besides it being terrible, is they tried playing it straight at all. It's fucking Looney Tunes. Who's going to think Bugs Bunny will actually die or think LeBron James can act as a main character? The reason the first movie worked, and still gets laughs today, is cause it's a joke. Even the scenario behind the drama is a joke and that's what makes it great. It knows not to take itself too seriously.
When it comes to Porky rapping, I agree with Wile E. “Stop in the name of humanity.” The funny thing is if that happened during the movie, it would’ve gotten a chuckle
Just sayin' a Looney Tunes Back in Action sequel could've done more than this being more of an Adventure with Looney Tunes in it, but again, that was decent and would've actually requires creativity
Yeah, too bad Back in Action was a big flop back in 2003 despite being a better Looney Tunes movie. Apparently WB is now planning a Space Jam-type wrestling movie with The Rock. They'd be better off doing another Back in Action-type adventure movie with Dwayne Johnson. He certainly has gotten enough blockbuster action clot by now to be able to star in that kind of movie and give WB that box office draw they want.
Also, Space Jam was quite the hit when it came out and has the nostalgia factor. I don't think Back in Action did well and doesn't have the 90s kid nostalgia going for it. This movie was to make a few bucks off of nostalgia, not to revive the Looney Tunes brand.
"Is it just me or is Lebron getting better in this" No, it's not. I haven't seen the film, but I've seen the 50 TH-cam videos for it and Lebron weirdly gets more.. comfortable as the film goes on. Which is strange because movie scenes aren't usually filmed in order, but the early scenes legitimately felt like they WERE filmed before the rest of the film was, especially all of the voice acting he does in this, so his acting seems to get more... not better, but just more acceptable.
That whole middle section where the Looney Tunes gang have jumped ship and retreated into other movies/shows, with Bugs trying to get the gang back together again was, arguably, the best part of the movie. Honestly, they should've dropped the Space Jam/basketball thing and just had that second act be given its own movie. The plot of this old Warner Bros. property that was once the face of the company now gathering dust, and said characters are struggling to stay true to who they were/are while also trying to stay relevant and appeal to a modern audience is a really intriguing idea to me.
Brilliant idea. Unfortunately, this movie of yours already exists… well, sort of, and it’s called “The Muppets”. (I just really wanted to say that, sorry)
The idea of a Looney Tunes film where they struggle to stay true to who they are and stay relevant in the modern era has been done; it was called Looney Tunes: Back in Action, and, sadly, it was a box office flop.
Lola started out as an attention hog willing to put anything on the line, just like Johnny Bravo. She even got a kiss at the end, but somehow Super Mario is the sexist one and Bugs Bunny is still the sexist one. After the lobotomy Lola Bunny was a whole different person, but I suppose that beats your "no personality". Having wrong personality gets you erased faster than Ms. Keane can get a mastectomy.
Them Rapping though not great isn't the problem. Whenever cartoons rap they never absorb the culture plus the writers are too scared to actually poke fun at the art. So it's like dead air. It happens, a spot was filled ANNNDwere moving on.
What do you mean on purpose? What was Michael Jordan’s motivation to help? And no, “being nice” isn’t good enough. If that’s not good enough for modern female characters, it ain’t good enough for a 90s flick that people like do to their nostalgia. LeBron didn’t want to have the Looney Tunes as his team. Bugs was just using LeBron’s situation to get his friends back and when they were running out of time Lebron had to settle for them. It makes sense for Bugs’ original characterization of being a trickster and clever rabbit. He could’ve just used Marvin’s ship to get them by himself, however, because they all left willingly the first time around he needed a reason for all of them to get back together. LeBron’s situation gave them that reason get together. Additionally, having these funny, silly characters as a team helps Lebron’s character arc of having to not force his own way of doing things onto them. The toons had their special way of playing/contributing to basketball (except Porky which is why they had him rap because they didn’t know what to make his Looney power). Trying to play in Lebron’s way was more of detriment to them and actually help him realize what he was doing wrong with his kid. When he let the Looney Toons play in their style and with understanding the video games they were able to play better and have a good time doing so. Seeing his dad’s change of play style is why his son switched sides because he sees his dad being more accommodating to how others play. Where’s that progression with Michael? Like basic writing. Michael Jordan had no reason to help the Toons. He was just kidnapped by then and… never bothered leaving. It’s not like he had a previously established connection with them other than commercials that the movie was inspired by. He had no stakes in helping the Toons until the theme park owner threatened to take him as an attraction too. He takes the bet… even though he had no motivation that would reason why he would other than so he has something at stake. I’m sorry but in terms of story progress and character development, Space Jam 2 did it better. I was born in 1995. Space Jam was one of the few live action movies I watched as kid. I do have some nostalgic feelings for it. However when I watched it on HBOMAX I became more aware of the flaws it had and made me realized what I had already suspected with liking A New Legacy. I’m not going to pretend that their aren’t cringey or dumb stuff in the new film, but to ignore the original as this sacred cattle because of it being part of your childhood or nostalgia… Honestly it’s kind exciting to see what 2010s media becomes nostalgic for the teens/adults of the 2020s and 2030s. What were the favorite shows and movies those kids watched in the 2010s era.
23:03 I was a theater usher when this movie came out, and even I admitted if they made a video around the Goon Squad, I could see it being popular. Designs are decent and the powers are diverse, it could make for a fun game.
She was basically pulling a Jessica Rabbit... Who hates being Objectified, but seems to Objectify herself a lot. The difference is that Jessica had a Husband and a Bigger Role in the story, so she was able to show off more, and she didn't get stuck with Ten other Yahoos who kept swiping the Spotlight like Lola did. By the way, those who say "Space Jam Lola has no personality", are those who look up Lola's R34... Tells me more about them than it does about Lola if I have to be honest...
Unintentionally Sympathetic: Marvin the Martian's treatment comes across as a mean-spirited use of a beloved character. Excluding the controversial and absent Pepé Le Pew, Marvin is the only main Looney Tune who doesn't get to join the team, with his role being nothing more than getting his ship stolen, being crushed by it, and getting ignored by everyone else when he asks for help. Doesn't help that Bugs is the one to start conflict with him, yet he gets off the hook entirely while Marvin pays. Bugs' behavior towards Marvin is even worse when you remember he longs for all the other Looney Tunes, treating all of them but him as family.
Pepsi is objectively better than Coke, and wins every single blind taste test set up by either company. They tried to fix the formula once, but Cokeheads (who aren't that smart anyway) bitched and moaned until they released Coca-Cola Classic.
Doug himself said a blatant product placement like that convinces him to buy the competitor’s product. (See his review of 2017’s Power Rangers, where Krispy Kreme plays an integral role.)
Here's how _I'd_ make Lola trying to be an amazon _funny:_ It's revealed that Lola was using her cartoon physics powers to beat the Amazon Challenges, but she gets disqualified because the Themyscrian judges found her "looniness" an unfair advantage to the other amazons. And Diana, feeling sympathy for Lola, whispers to the other judges who nod in satisfaction. And then Diana approaches a saddened Lola saying that while Lola _won't_ be an Amazon, she pulled some strings to get a _special royal_ job _just for her_ to use her wonderful, amusing gifts. To which Lola, with a _huge_ smile and large _puppy-dog eyes and a twitching nose_ says _"Really?_ And then it cuts to Lola dressed as a _court jester_ (maybe Harley Quinn's _Batman The Animated Series_ costume for a fun little Easter egg), _totally dead-inside_ using her "looniness" to perform comedy bits for the Amazons. Then, Lola pulls out an anvil and throws it in the air just standing under it and then it squashes her. Lola then pulls herself out _totally flattened_ with the Amazons laughing and then she "puffs" back and yells "WWHHHHHYYYY!!!!!!" like she was trying to end it all. Then it cuts to LeBron looking on in mild fear and Bugs watching smugly. Lola then looks to them, rips off the jester outfit and storms onto the spaceship.
Would honestly be a lot better than what they did with her. Honestly in general I can kind of agree with the NC that her appearance here is the "most 2021" way to handle her, since it really did just make her the "token female" of this time period instead of an actual character, kind of like the original did, (though personally I find the original version more entertaining than this one). It's really weird that they did so though, since her other portrayals elsewhere have her with her own personality and traits that can actually be entertaining.
@@Gamer3427 Thank you for agreeing with me :). I, too, agree with Doug's assessment that Lola is the "most 2021" way to do a female character. Also maybe this is just me and maybe it's kind of a nitpick, but I kind of resent what media does with women in media of how they're trying to "desexualize" female characters. Examples include removing Ms. Bellum and removing Ms. Keane's breasts in the _PowerPuff Girls_ 2016 reboot. It's like they're saying "conventionally" attractive women can't be good role models and that girls and women should be ashamed of themselves if they have naturally curvaceous bodies. This _isn't_ celebrating all body types. This is just _trading in one_ body preference for _another_ body preference. It's hypocritical as hell.
@@rogue7723 What I've found is that a lot of the big movements in media, and even just social change in general these days, tend to have a lot of hypocrisy in them. They start from a place of good intentions such as giving female characters more developed roles than being sex icons, or giving more representation to different things. The end product, however, often ends up trading one extreme for another and in some ways is arguably worse than the original because they portray the thing they're trying to change as "wholly wrong", when in reality most people fall into a range between the two. For example, women are allowed to be a bit sexual or have wants and needs beyond just being "strong and independent" in real life, and in many cases people are much better off if they rely on others at least some, rather than striving to be "perfect" and not need any help. There's been countless shows and movies that even try to drive that point home with well developed characters, but for some reason so many these days are moving away from that, or trying too hard to show that "women don't need to rely on anyone" as an attempt at being progressive, resulting in boring characters that are unrelaistic.
@@guyferrari8124 The way I saw it, A New Legacy stood no chance. As in, even if they did everything perfectly, people would still compare it heavily to the original, which has been placed on such an impossibly high pedestal, nothing could even hope to compare.
I remember seeing this film. It’s definitely not as memorable as the original space jam, but I can see where some people might enjoy it. There’s also so many movie, show and game references that can even outshine ready player one. But I didn’t know what was the most random moment was: Rick and morty making a cameo or the looney tunes doing a rap number? Also, this is the first major looney tunes project to portray Daffy as his egotistical, greedy slob self since the looney tunes show.
I feel like all the references did was make me wish I was watching something else to do with them. I'd have much rather seen Voldemort pick a fight with King Kong, instead of have them just stand around doing nothing in the background as spectators.
@@ryantheanimator1156 Honestly I did the same. But had opposite feelings. I thought A New Legacy was the better movie regarding characterization, plot progression, and character development for Lebron, Bugs, and the son.
Space Jam 2: A New Legacy sadly reminds us how we miss the original Space Jam movie with Michael Jordan. It was commercially bad but still have a unique charm that left us remembering this movie.
It wasn't a very good movie but was still a more enjoyable viewing experience with some great gags and cool scenes. It also had one of the most memorable scores in any movie.
This felt more like a commercial for me than the original did. I always have a blast when I watch the first movie, but with this one, not so much. I watched these movies back to back, and I didn't find myself to be as invested in Space Jam 2. I think I was more interested in finding what characters were in the background than I was in the overall plot. I was also hoping to see more Bugs/Lola interactions, and see how they'd make Lola more interesting. She's such a blank slate in this movie, and I really hate that she barely even acknowledged Bugs. While I intend to watch more of the first movie, I don't think I'll be tuning into the second one again.
I left the cinema when it become clear that they ignore Looney Tunes Show and its development to those characters. Despite its technical flaws it actually male Lola interesting and Tina was especially great.
Well it's 2021. Strong female characters aren't allowed to be romanticly interested in male characters. That might accidentally imply depth or growth in the character.
I don't think the original was that commercial either. Shameless? Yes. Unnecessary? Yes. Just trying to cash in on Jordan's fame? Yes. But it wasn't like watching the TV show scenes from Idiocracy, where ads are just bombarding your senses all over the place.
@@nathank2289 having a romantic relationships doesn't equals character development unless it's done right. And to be frank the force love interest is rather tiresome
Space Jam 1 is good. Despite its cynical origin, it's an amusing, likeable and wholesome film. Probably because it was written by the duo behind Trading Places
This movie isn't any different. There's nothing offensive about it. Sure, a lot of jokes don't work, but it's harmless fun just like the original and not worth critiquing.
Creator Backlash: An artist for the movie, Dave Alvarez (who also draws many Looney Tunes comic books currently), did plenty of work on the movie's character designs and backgrounds. He went uncredited in the movie, which was a deeply upsetting experience for him and his family. He has since been critical and disdainful of the movie. An online campaign supporting him began when the story was picked up by the media. On July 30, 2021, the film finally credited most of the artists and collaborators on Twitter. This still left a bitter taste on fans’ mouths, who continue to clamor for them to be added to the actual movie credits for the home release. Joe Pytka, the director for the first Space Jam, ripped into the new one, finding that LeBron's story lacked the Reality Subtext that Michael Jordan's did, felt the various celebrities were unmemorable compared to the original's cameos (i.e. Bill Murray), thought Bugs Bunny was watered down, and admitted that he found it painful to watch through in over five sittings just to finish it. Certainly downplayed, but Gabriel Iglesias was disappointed to learn he was given the role of Speedy as Stunt Casting and not on the strength of the impression he’s been doing for years.
"artists" are a fucked up bunch, I would be mad if I didn't get paid, but credited? Inflating their curriculum and being recognized is just a fucked up priority.
What? So it’s unreasonable for artists to be upset when they’re not credited for their work? It’s common courtesy to credit artist for their artwork. Are you honestly saying that it’s unreasonable for them to be angry?
I think the CollegeHumor original of the "Behind The Scenes" truly said It all! All they did was take the 1st original Space Jam, Ready Player 1, and any of those bad Seltzer And Friedberg movie. As for The Nerdlucks all they did was use a greenscreen without making them CGI while the real Nerdlucks are just chilling at Titan Tower after they kicked out the Toddler Titans! If there was alternative universe let alone a Bizzario Sequel were we actually continued off with Mr. Swhackhammer coming back stronger and scarier then the Monstars themselves, then It would've been promising.
@@chasehedges6775 If the guy doesn't get covid will might get that chance If he's Interested. I be really upset too If he died though and can't reprise his once Ironic role. :'(
If anything, Just having the Nerdlucks be the only friends Bugs have and have them play alongside the Looney Tunes would have been enough. How they go back into being the Monstars? Just have them say something like "We drank from Michael Jordan's secret potion" (AKA, the bottle of water Bugs used in first film to trick his teammates). Even Have Bugs shush LeBron when he is gonna tell them that isn't even water
The best thing about the Hebrew version of the movie it's that they brought the original Hebrew Looney Tunes voice actors and the fact the came back for this movie after 2 decades they didn't voiced them anymore it's made me happy that they came back
I personally feel like they really missed a golden opportunity to have the biggest WB crossover shenanigans ever. Like, imagine if they somehow worked in the characters on the sidelines wanting to help out the toon squad and the you have all the heroes helping out. If this is supposed to be the most 2021 movie of 2021 then why not do more with the ultra crossover. Heck, ready player one beat them to the punch of WB crossover shenanigans.
Hek, why not even Reintroduce "Forgotten Characters" like The Loonatics, or The Road Rovers? I mean, one of the reasons a Show is "Forgotten", is because none of the Directors want to revive the show for... Reasons, regardless of it's following.
I am surprised there's no mention of Penelope Cat. She was shown in a teaser with a Space Jam 2 outfit as well as standing next to Pepe Le Pew in an early trailer. When they took out Pepe, they took Penelope out as well. She could've had the chance of being her own character, but I imagine they didn't want Lola overshadowed. May be they didn't have anything for Penelope without Pepe.
Roadrunner and Wile. E Coyote have a shrug expression? it would have been a nice reference to how they were the only 3D ones in the looney tunes show so they are used to the CGI
Slow-Paced Beginning: Outside of brief appearances on merch and as video game characters, *it takes around 20 minutes for the Looney Tunes to properly appear.*
i like the father/son story between MJ and his father in the first movie...its seems warm, kind, sincere & encouraging...unlike lebron and his son it seems cold, distant, harsh & discouraging..also, MJ is modest while lebron wants the entire audience to notice him everywhere!!
What father son story in the first film? It was just that open scene… that didn’t need to be there. A New Legacy had the opening scene of Lebron as a kid to show why he’s as harsh as he is about his performance and the performance of his kids and then the toons. It’s a character flaw that he has to grow out of and develop in order to understand his kid
@@carsfan1995 the small open scene in the first film says it all! you don't have to make an entire harsh childhood so the audience can relate and understand! secondly, just because lebron has it bad when he was a kid, thats no excuse for him to be harsh on everyone when he is older!! this isn't a samurai avenging story, its supposed to be related to real life!!

10:06 Gotta love the Kingdom Hearts references lately. XD Happy to see Doug being a fan with the series as recent. 😊 About the "Big Chungus" scene, funnily enough, the animator of that scene didn't even know that "Big Chungus" was a meme until after the movie was made. He thought they were referencing the original cartoon the meme was based on. XD Interestingly, from what I heard, Bugs Bunny in the final scene with Lebron in the movie was animated by someone who was an animator of the first Space Jam, 😊
It makes sense kh and Sj main characters befriend classic cartoon characters and go to worlds based on movies. I bet someone told the animator to put it in and they knew it was a meme.
Honestly, when I first heard of this, I was kind of excited. The original Space Jam wasn’t a part of my childhood as I’ve only seen that movie twice in my life. When I started hearing critics reviews about the movie, I got less excited, so I thought I’d just go watch it to get a laugh and hopefully have a bit of fun with it and I got that. Definitely not the best movie of the year, but it’s just dumb fun with enough pop culture and impressive animation to have me interested. So I’m glad I saw it.
Whats funny is the original Space Jam focused on the Looney Tunes and Jordan was just in their universe. Where as new legacy is just about Lebron and the looney tunes make a small cameo

Could’ve had a solid emotional moment at the end with Lebron coming in, asking what hes working on, he shows him Bugs, Lebron smiles, says “its time for camp” and then the last shot being the Warner Bros animation studio
It kinda felt like a promo for a new Commercial review from Doug. He usually does these around this time of year. No idea if he plans on doing one this year though.
Watched it and it felt like massive ego display for Lebron, and basically threw nostalgia and remember us characters. Sure MJ was great sportman but he didn't have most of the cast stroking his "ego" the entire movie.
I especially liked in the original the jokes about MJ playing golf, baseball or other sports, and everyone being weirdly supportive (while being kinda like "huh, should we tell him?") despite it being obvious he would never be the genius he was in basket in those other sports. Felt like a self burn for MJ, and it made him really, well strangely relatable as his ego was toned down because of it.
Which is why I appreciated that one moment where Bugs and Lebron are disagreeing over play plans and Bugs has a tone of distaste, "Oh ... So you're that kind of king." 😒
I think there two big misteps in this movie. 1. Bugs bunny needed Micheal Jordan to save the loony toons. Lebron needs the loony toons to save himself. 2. The villians shouldnt have been just random nba stars with super powers. The Mean Team is iconic because of how goofy they were. The game wouldve been improved if the bad guy team was either all Warner villians, or just a clone army of Don Cheadle in different costumes.
I'd say I liked this film fine, 'cause I'm a sucker for big crossover films with tons of characters from different franchises. The part where all the Warner Bros. characters flock to see the basketball game made me so hyped.
I remember playing my Gameboy in the early to mid 2000's so I see using a Gameboy in '98 to be a completely believable action, not even slightly far fetched.
I wanted to like Space Jam: A New Legacy. Despite its flaws, I still consider OG Space Jam to be a classic, I even think Back in Action is decent, but A New Legacy is a big part of what’s wrong with cinema today: - the animation is a downgrade from OG Space Jam - LeBron is portrayed as nowhere near as good a father as MJ - there didn’t need to be a sequel to Space Jam - young LeBron being scolded for gaming was terrible to see, especially since it brought back bad memories of some people I used to know - A New Legacy desperately tries to cram in as many references to other Warner Bros. IPs as possible - A New Legacy overall feels more like it was originally going to go straight to DVD (I feel the same way about Toy Story 4) - is this REALLY what they needed to do to put the Looney Tunes, some of the most celebrated cartoon characters EVER, back on the big screen? Was production on that Marvin The Martian movie REALLY THAT TROUBLED?!? I can forgive Norm of The North, Rock Dog and Monster Family for each just being “yet another bad kid’s movie”. They’re part of life. But then there are movies like The Emoji Movie (a shameless celebration of smartphone culture), Toy Story 4 (severely messes with an otherwise amazing movie series that didn’t need a 4th instalment), the 2019 Lion King remake (totally misses the point over why the original is the way it is) and this (the opening scene with young LeBron being told off for playing a handheld game, followed by young LeBron throwing his handheld away, almost made me want to walk out), which each cross at least one line that you just can’t cross! It’s time movie studios got their act together. Put more time and money into making original movies, make sequels to movies that really do need them and MAKE SURE THEY ARE GOOD, no more pointless remakes of classics, JUST GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! As Mr. Enter said in his recent review of an episode of the new Magic School Bus cartoon, it’s actually RISKIER to remake an existing property than it is to make something original! If you make a bad movie that’s at least original, it could still gain a cult following in later years If you make a soulless remake of a much-loved classic, that remake will end up just being forgotten shortly after it arrives in cinemas Does anyone even remember the 2014 remakes of RoboCop and Annie? The 2015 remake of Cinderella? Anyone? Thought so.
I actually remember RoboCop 2014, but that's because of how disappointed in it I was. They threw in pointless references to the original, just to say "Hey! Remember this?! It's cool, right? RIGHT??" and that's it, and because of that they're completely meaningless. And what's worse, is, one of them makes absolutely no sense what-so-fucking-ever for the movie. They just did that because "Hey, it was in the first film! That means we're giving fans what they want!". The reference I'm talking about is, of course, where they keep his left hand. And it's not even a correct reference. In the original it was his entire left _arm_ that they said they managed to save, but then Bob Morton told them to replace it. Which makes sense, given the fact that they were going for total body prosthesis. But in this movie, they just fucking kept his left hand for no reason other than it was a reference, and a bad one, to the original. That's it. Apparently they were too stupid to realize that his robotic arm would absolutely pulverize his hand were he to attempt to grab something. And in the original, Alex Murphy was an outgoing guy with an emotional family life, which made the transition (and him getting his memories and humanity back) so much more compelling. In this one, he's so robotic and unemotional as a human, that his transition to a Cyborg might as well be just another Tuesday. Now, did the remake have some good points? Ehh, sure. The new design was cool, and they did some interesting things with the plot, but that's pretty much it. And The lead actor's extremely wooden acting in this, aside from the pointless (and in one case, totally stupid) references, just ruined the film for me. Not to mention that I think they went a bit overboard with one of the plot choices (they really didn't need to have not one, not two, but three corrupt cops in it to be the bad guys aside from the OCP CEO). Is it a good way to waste your brain for a couple of hours? Sure. But it's not something I'd write home about.

WB: WHat no- Don Cheadle: Oh right you're probably going to make me Steel since I play War Machine for Marvel. WB: No we're putting you in Space Jam as a computer algorithm.
Don Cheadle: So, what will my character name be? WB: AL G. Rythem. I know it might not be quite a threatening Villain name, but the character you'll play will be kind of over-the-top and alittle threatening. Don Cheadle: I can try to work with that.

Troubled Production: Midway through the film's principal photography, director Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty) and cinematographer Bradford Young abruptly left the project, with Nance citing "different takes on the creative vision" from the studio and producers. Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip) and Salvatore Totino took over Nance and Young's duties, respectively. Lee had only four days to meet the cast and crew, review VFX work and animatics and watch the original film for the first time before starting to direct. @@mrrunodan8119 But it didn't make any sense. They're presented for the whole movie as being programs in a huge simulation. How are they also Toons? Did they exist before the server was built?

No, it's not.
Maybe they didn't take more than two shoots per scene for him, and he was just awkward early on, but got more comfortable with acting?

The problem with the sequel is the same problem with Birdemic's sequel. When you mess up this much a second time and on purpose, it loses its charm.
I’m not going to pretend that their aren’t cringey or dumb stuff in the new film, but to ignore the original as this sacred cattle because of it being part of your childhood or nostalgia…
Honestly it’s kind exciting to see what 2010s media becomes nostalgic for the teens/adults of the 2020s and 2030s. What were the favorite shows and movies those kids watched in the 2010s era.
That, and they tried to play everything straight and take it more seriously due to the nostalgia of the first film.
23:03 I was a theater usher when this movie came out, and even I admitted if they made a video around the Goon Squad, I could see it being popular. Designs are decent and the powers are diverse, it could make for a fun game.

Just Make Lola bunny funny.
I'd rather see that time spent with Penelope Pussycat doing an "I spit on your grave" homage on Pepe LePew.

Space Jam 1 is good. Despite its cynical origin, it's an amusing, likeable and wholesome film. Probably because it was written by the duo behind Trading Places
And Bill Murray is in it.
Honestly I’m that’s how the kids in 2021 will feel ten/twenty years later.
It’s the nature of Nostalgia
Damn, that sucks.
I could be mistaken though. English isn’t my first language
Holy shit, there's more than one person literally copy-pasting stuff from TV Tropes instead of coming up with their own input?
And Danny Devito hamming it up like no tomorrow!

That’s reserved for space jam 2056
Hek, why not even Reintroduce "Forgotten Characters" like The Loonatics, or The Road Rovers?
I mean, one of the reasons a Show is "Forgotten", is because none of the Directors want to revive the show for... Reasons, regardless of it's following.
0:24 I love how this accidentally implies that Critic accidentally shot himself
Nice attention to detail
I NEVER REALIZED THAT 🤣
Now I can't unsee that 🤣
huh?
Again…
I am surprised there's no mention of Penelope Cat. She was shown in a teaser with a Space Jam 2 outfit as well as standing next to Pepe Le Pew in an early trailer. When they took out Pepe, they took Penelope out as well. She could've had the chance of being her own character, but I imagine they didn't want Lola overshadowed. May be they didn't have anything for Penelope without Pepe.
I will admit I was worried about The Looney Tunes being 3D but I love how being 3D pissed them off.
Roadrunner and Wile. E Coyote have a shrug expression?
it would have been a nice reference to how they were the only 3D ones in the looney tunes show so they are used to the CGI

i like the father/son story between MJ and his father in the first movie...its seems warm, kind, sincere & encouraging...unlike lebron and his son it seems cold, distant, harsh & discouraging..also, MJ is modest while lebron wants the entire audience to notice him everywhere!!

About the "Big Chungus" scene, funnily enough, the animator of that scene didn't even know that "Big Chungus" was a meme until after the movie was made. He thought they were referencing the original cartoon the meme was based on. XD
Interestingly, from what I heard, Bugs Bunny in the final scene with Lebron in the movie was animated by someone who was an animator of the first Space Jam, 😊

In the original, there was a lengthy being about Lebron.
The Looney Tunes were barely present in the original Space Jam. It was all about worshipping Michael Jordan and how perfect he was in every way.
In both films the Looney Tunes were secondary characters. But in Back In Action you can't argue Daffy is the main character.

It’s called Ready Player One.
same i'd watch nothing but it.
Agreed
Just shows why MJ is the fucking goat
12:27 “I’m a cartoon”
“You are an illustration”

I'd say I liked this film fine, 'cause I'm a sucker for big crossover films with tons of characters from different franchises. The part where all the Warner Bros. characters flock to see the basketball game made me so hyped.
So did i
I remember playing my Gameboy in the early to mid 2000's so I see using a Gameboy in '98 to be a completely believable action, not even slightly far fetched.
I wanted to like Space Jam: A New Legacy. Despite its flaws, I still consider OG Space Jam to be a classic, I even think Back in Action is decent, but A New Legacy is a big part of what’s wrong with cinema today:
- the animation is a downgrade from OG Space Jam
- LeBron is portrayed as nowhere near as good a father as MJ
- there didn’t need to be a sequel to Space Jam
- young LeBron being scolded for gaming was terrible to see, especially since it brought back bad memories of some people I used to know
- A New Legacy desperately tries to cram in as many references to other Warner Bros. IPs as possible
- A New Legacy overall feels more like it was originally going to go straight to DVD (I feel the same way about Toy Story 4)
- is this REALLY what they needed to do to put the Looney Tunes, some of the most celebrated cartoon characters EVER, back on the big screen?
If you make a bad movie that’s at least original, it could still gain a cult following in later years
If you make a soulless remake of a much-loved classic, that remake will end up just being forgotten shortly after it arrives in cinemas
Does anyone even remember the 2014 remakes of RoboCop and Annie? The 2015 remake of Cinderella? Anyone?
Thought so.
Not to mention removing Pepe, but keeping the Droogs. Like WTF
Sure. But it's not something I'd write home about.
if they're are any left, they're pretty much letting a Minority of Loudmouths decide how to make they're films and acting preachy while at it putting Agenda ahead of Creativity
Legit, I almost forgot about those last few films at the end.
I remember them. They sucked
24:07, Even LeBron and the rest of the Looney Tunes were aware about Sylvester getting the wrong Micheal Jordan!
I think the main problem with this as opposed to Space Jam 1 is that Space Jam 1 knew it was not good and ran with it by mocking how bad it was where this film is like 100% Lebron Rules!
