    Don't add but replace or upgrade is amazing. It is the key of not overspending and simple enough to remember.

    I feel that this channel will grow very quickly due to your calm and collected demeanor and the clean cut editing style, in addition to the quality thoughts and content you are putting out into the TH-cam sphere. Looking forward to binge watching more of your videos.

    Love your videos, informative and a nice voice not being a perky nut. I like that you are serious and explain your thought processes. I live in hot Texas and need all of my wardrobe in one place because of the quick weather changes. 😊 thank you.

    I just discovered your videos a few weeks ago and have been binge watching them over and over. I had hit a KonMari rut for months and just could not get out of it. But after watching your very common sense and logical approach, I got new inspiration. I really like your suggestion of replace or upgrade (thus one in and one out). And the idea of having a cohesive wardrobe was new to me although I actually have read (and liked) The Curated Closet book you mentioned before. Although I don't think I can ever pare down my wardrobe to the same extent as you (we have 4 seasons where I am and the summer and winters are extreme), your advice has helped a lot in keeping me on tract.

      I do more in newer videos. I think it's a consequence of sitting closer to the camera. Perhaps the word is "intonation."

      Just as an exercise, try what I call WIBTESIARNT, or the "Would I buy this exact same item again right now test." I think I discuss it here: th-cam.com/video/4t5beMoUZP8/w-d-xo.html If you're finding it difficult to minimize your closet, I recommend doing this just as a test--you don't have to get rid of anything--just do it to see what you'd end up with. It can be really revealing as to what our actual preferences are and make paring down much easier.

    Yes, I prefer to layer too. I do this a lot with dresses and cardigans. I also like to change necklaces. It gives me more versatility with fewer items, which I love.

    I'm finding that with less items they are getting washed more often and will need to be replaced more often. I am used to keeping my clothes longer.

      I mention this sort of in my "My Experiences with a 50 Item Wardrobe" video, but I've tried to not launder my clothes as often as I used to. I now hang my items back in my closet and try to wear them a few times before I throw them in the laundry, and then, when I do wash them, I use a gentle "quick wash" setting, and I hang-dry almost everything. So far, it's been working, but it's only been a few months, so who knows. I'm kind of ok with having to replace them if they wear out faster. I'd rather wear a smaller number of items into the ground and replace them when needed than have a huge wardrobe full of partially worn out clothes. And then it's a legitimate excuse to shop. ;)

      I agree. Most people wash clothes when they're not even dirty. I wear my tops about 2-3 times before I wash them. My trousers it depends but usually 2-3 times also. I take off my good clothes the minute I get home.
      I also believe you really need to check out your detergents. I've found certain detergents aren't as colorfast as others. Also, I tend to use the delicate cycle to was my clothes I also hang most of my clothes up to dry.

    My favorite way to wear something of pieces (dresses and skirts)
    I'll wear dresses over dresses (ie shorter dresses with longer ones under it) or a dress lover a skirt, like a gauzey skirt poking out the bottom of a dress, as well as shirts over dresses to poke out the bottom and look like a skirt.
    That's how I keep my wardrobe fresh.

    Great video! I love the tip about pulling the items you wear most, then the ones you love most! Could be completely diff! Also, I am lucky enough to have plenty of storage in a walk-up attic, so I pack away items & pull them twice a year - when it gets warm out, I pull out all of my shorts & skirts, & when it starts to get chilly at end of summer we pull out all our heavy sweaters, etc. I wouldn’t want to pack away & rotate every 3mos, as I like to see most of my clothes out, but it does help to pack away bulky sweaters & winter coats, & it is a bit of novelty!

      You might be surprised--lots of people use capsule wardrobes or project 333, which isn't as hard as it may seem. That said, I personally prefer to have most of my clothing out at one time, and, since I have 40 items, it's not difficult to do. I may start putting sweaters or shorts (depending on the season) into a box though, as having those out of sight would keep it cleaner when it's not appropriate to wear them.

    That's smart to go ahead with a plan of what you want the new item to be made from/color etc. And your hair! I am very jealous bc I have straight hair that does nothing.

      Thank you and thank you! Forcing myself to make very detailed shopping lists has really helped me to realize that, often times, the pang for new clothing is really just an impulse and not a true need. I think it's working because I haven't purchased new clothing since... February! I hope it helps you too!

    Awesome video TFS 😊 SMH I leave tags on and hang with my other clothes to make sure it was cohesive but I return items quite often. So I will try your tip to be more exact with what I'm replacing our upgrading before I go shopping so it all makes sense. Love your videos... You are easy to understand. You add logic to something that usually more emotional and related to self expression, rather than of necessity. I hope I'm making sense lol

    As per your example of dark navy sweater you replaced w cashmere. I would want to keep the original for knocking around and save new cashmere for work etc.
    And therefore I sometimes find hard to reduce items.

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It'd definitely important to have clothes that suit your lifestyle, so, if you need "mud clothes," then keep some! I wear my workout clothes when cleaning around the house if I don't want to somehow mess up my daywear. I only advise that you keep your "knocking around" category in check as well, so it doesn't become a spill over area for decisions you're trying to avoid... If you actually need more mud clothes, let the decision to have more come from an actual need, rather than a desire to avoid parting with items you no longer like.

    Would you wear this piece 100 times? I watched a video of a minimalist called Dakota talking about this, and it really made me look at my clothes and future purchases in a different way (you've got to really love a piece and it has to really work in your wardrobe to foresee wearing it 100 times!)

    About Everlane. Would you say their item are tts.

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have one item from Everlane, but I have been to a few of their stores in New York and I've tried on lots of things. As someone who is 5'1", I think their shirts/sweaters are pretty TTS and work for me, but their pants don't fit my shape at all. They're pretty popular now though, and I find the reviews that people leave very thorough and helpful, so check those out for whatever items you are considering.

    When I was hired in a new job, had to get a whole work wardrobe and everything I got was black or grey and was frustrated because those where abundant in the discount store. I kept thinking I had to colorize. So maddening but everything did work with everything else by chance.

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oy, I too once had a job where I needed to wear a lot of black all of a sudden. If that's still your position, you could always do a quick pinterest search to see how others inject a bit of color into an otherwise fairly monochromatic look. Also, if black isn't your thing, you could always swing in the opposite direction and choose white. It's still neutral and strong, but it might play better with some colors.

    Hi! I'm wondering if you could do a video on your computer and/or social media! Sometimes I feel like I need to purge everything off my computer, social media, and delete all social media. Can you give a minimalistic approach to these things?

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll think about it! I have this channel and an instagram account that I post to SUPER irregularly, but otherwise I don't use social media accounts. To me, this is more of my hobby than a personal social media thing (this isn't how I keep in touch with friends and family, for example). I ditched personal social media about a year ago, and it's been great!
