Glad you liked this! It wasn't their most popular song in terms of the charts, but it rocked the hardest to me (of what I've heard from them) and had the most drama.
Absolutely! This group was one of my favorites in high school and this song is underrated as far as this band goes. A lot of their music was more radio friendly than this one but this one has a more grit
Asia was hooked @.38 seconds It was in her smile and eyes. i saw it with my first viewing. Go Team ASIA. BJ waited and held judgement until @1:45, when the songs soul began reigning (raining) down his Heart to his Soul @1;47, he was fully STRUCK by The LIGHTNING! I was very excited to see this one getting a Reaction from the two of you> CHAMPS! PS, BJ, both the Radio, and fans DO think this song is among the top of the Hard Rock charts!
38 Special is a group I've grown up with and love! Great song! Please react to If I'd Been The One! Don Barnes, in my opinion, has a great but underrated voice! Easily one of my favorite groups still to this day! Thank you!
They got their start in 70's! Hold On Loosely or Fantasy Girl is probably their biggest hit! My favorites are Wild Eyed Southern Boys and Back Alley Sally. Singers Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant( middle brother to Skynyrd's Ronnie and Johnny) both play guitar but Jeff Carlisi is their lead guitarist
Don and Jeff are both lead and rhythm guitar players in the band. Donnie learned over the years how to play a little rhythm so he had something to do on stage
Jeff Carlisi was the lead guitarist, Donnie Barnes sang and laid the main riff. Rockin into the Night was their first hit, followed by Hold on Loosely and Caught up in you. They WERE full on 80’s! Wild Eyed Southern Boys may have been the propellant for the bands fame. Roadhouse Southern Rock.
Interesting to watch your reactions. I am rediscovering this song after not hearing it for years. Was never released as a single but got plenty of air time on the rock radio stations at the time. 38 Special still touring around the country.
I have seen 38 Special twice and they put on one heck of a show. Love this song and so many more. Check out hold on loosely, Fantasy Girl, and Hold on loosely.
Just got home from seeing .38 Special at Billy Bob’s. They never disappoint. They no longer have 3 and 4 guitarists (only 2 now) but they are both elite players. Opened as usual with Rockin’ into the Night Encores were Chain Lightning’, Hold on Loosely and CCR’s Traveling Band. Highly recommend seeing them
Saw the band three times in their heydays in the early-mid-80’s and then again just 2 years ago. While my all-time fav of theirs is Hold On Loosely, Chain Lightning is such a kick ass great song. Seeing them perform this song live was awe-inspiring.
One of the writers of the song was Jim Peterik who actually was a member of Survivor. Also as noted by others Donnie Van Zant is the brother of Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band got their name because they were practicing in an old automotive parts warehouse and the door was locked. The neighbors were complaining about the noise and the police showed up and they couldn’t get to the door lock. So the police said to them, “That’s no problem as we’ll just let the 38 Special do the talking.“ and with that they shot the lock off and the band had their name. When asked which song he liked to perform live the best, Don Barnes the lead singer said without a doubt “Chain Lightning”.
Now do some of 38 Specials grittier southern rock songs sung by Donnie Van Zant like Stone Cold Believer, Bring It On, Homeless Guitar, Rebel To Rebel, Back Door Stranger and Back On The Track
This was never a hit single but one of the best ones anyways and it is from 1982 , you were right about the 80s vibe . ...Jeff Carlisi was the lead guitarist on most of their songs ,vocalist Don Barnes is the rhythm guitar player .. Another album track that is different '''You Got The Deal''' ,that one is great ..,,, Fantasy Girl ,that is a huge hit single and a killer song ...
It's a classic for all time the rock ledgens from the brothers one in 38 special and the two others from Lynyrd Skynyrd, they were inspired by the Swampers. The Van Zant's will go down in history as the ledgens of Southern Rock&Roll , try their song Back were you belong.
YESSSSSSSSS❣❣❣❣❣❣❣⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡🎶🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁💃💃💃💃🎶🎶 This is one of many many huge songs! This is Southern Rock! Donnie Van Zant........ Just google them & listen & enjoy!
While Don Barnes deserves a lot accolades for his thunderous guitar solo, I think Steve Brookins drumming gets overlooked. Take another listen to the tone he sets in the beginning of the song then is the driving source of this song and supports both the lead vocals and guitar play. Steve Brookins is a beast!
FYI Lynyrd Skynyrd connections here. Lead singer Van zandt! Brother of the Skynyrd lead singer who was killed in the plane crash. Lots of connections between these two bands!
Have you heard of Lauren Allred singing : Never Enough? Great story behind this hit. Would love to here what you both would say about this performance. Love you guys.
When they play this live, it starts with a shitload of dry ice fog, opening guitar is surrounded by blue lasers and the lightning is white light blasting the audience
Listen to their whole catalog of music. These guys kick ass . Donnie Van Zant is brother to Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant of. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not bad for a bunch of rednecks from Gainesville, Florida. Peace ☮️ Out and God bless
Donnie van Zant is Ronnie's brother. They're youngest brother Johnny had a band called the Johnnie van Zant Band. No More Dirty Deals is badass. Give that a try.
Here I go again. Three views I believe the first day you posted. Now i am starting my next repeat today, because I love this Band and Forsure this song. This is a Bad A*$ Jam. Your reaction is a fun experience for your second helping to be hit by a .38Special. Remember kids be safe as you hit replay when behind the wheel. We want you to come back tomorrow. repeat.
How about a reaction to a musician who could blow most everyone off the stage in the 70's, the legendary Rory Gallagher? Take a listen to "Do You Read Me?" from 1979's Rock Goes to College for a sample of his skills and energy. He was a force of nature on stage and legitimately blew Aerosmith off the stage in New York (per fans and even Joe Perry). Please check him out and introduce this wizard to younger fans. Thanks.
Oddly enough this one never made the charts for whatever reason. They have tons of good music. With many of these groups sometimes the hidden songs on the album that never went pop are actually their best!
I enjoyed this song so much I got a metal band to do a cover of it. You should check it out if you get a chance -- the band is called Thunder and Lightning
One of the most badass songs from the Southern Rock genre. Glad you guys liked it !
I grew up listening to this band, and somehow I never heard this song until I was in my 50s. I think it’s definitely one of their best!
I’ve never heard this track! How crazy.😅
This is their kickass opener or encode closer song!!
Love vintage 38 Special, especially this HOUSE SHAKER..........
My all time favorite song of theirs - and they have many great songs. Such a great band from my day ❤️🤘
Luv the way Asia starts smiling as soon as she hears those sweet guitar strings start 🥰
38 Special's best song
Absolutely!
🤘
Thanks guys for hitting this and whoever suggested it! Been waiting a long time 😁
Our pleasure!
I requested this... and "Wild eyed southern boys"
MORE Southern rock! Esp Molly Hatchet ! “ ragtop deluxe” , “ whiskey man” , “ Gator Country” , “ Boogie no more” , etc,,,, Thx!
38 special is one of the best southern rock band's to come out of Jacksonville Florida along with Lynyrd Skynyrd molly Hatchet & Blackfoot
Iconic Band. Donnie Van Zandt the brother of Ronnie and Johnny from Lynyrd Skynyrd. They were right up there as one of the Great Southern Rock Groups.
38 Special - Caught Up on You - Hold on Loosely
Agree to both. Also Wild Eyed Southern Boys.
It's not a popular song, like a radio song, it's just an album song but if you love 38 special, it's a huge hit to you!! 👍❤️
38 Special is a group I've grown up with and love! Great song! Please react to If I'd Been The One! Don Barnes, in my opinion, has a great but underrated voice! Easily one of my favorite groups still to this day! Thank you!
Asia & BJ, you'll love their "Hold On Loosely"!!!
Didnt see the answer but lead guitarist is Jeff Carlisi. He is sooooo good.
Don was also donnies brother in law
You're absolutely correct. This is one of 38 Specials strongest hits!
I am from the time period of this song and I love to see new generations exposed to this great music, and digging it.
Yesssss!!! .38 Special...From Special Forces album!!! Great album!!!
BEST ALBUM EVER !!!!!!
Love ❤️ CHAIN LIGHTNIN ! I've seen 38 at least 20 times, they are great band to see. Every song is a hit , or a memory. Lol. Would love to hear more.
Early 80's, they were one of the top bands on the air waves.
Interesting to watch your reactions. I am rediscovering this song after not hearing it for years. Was never released as a single but got plenty of air time on the rock radio stations at the time. 38 Special still touring around the country.
Killer song! The whole 'Special Forces' album is ace.
I have seen 38 Special twice and they put on one heck of a show.
Love this song and so many more. Check out hold on loosely, Fantasy Girl, and Hold on loosely.
Beautiful reaction from 2 beautiful souls. Thanks from a old man ❤
My Fav 38 special song. Saw them soooooo many times in the 80’s! ❤️❤️❤️😎😎🎶🎶🎶
Late 70s/early 80s. It was definitely one of their biggest songs. I saw their concerts several times.
Just got home from seeing .38 Special at Billy Bob’s. They never disappoint. They no longer have 3 and 4 guitarists (only 2 now) but they are both elite players. Opened as usual with Rockin’ into the Night
Encores were Chain Lightning’, Hold on Loosely and CCR’s Traveling Band. Highly recommend seeing them
Classic southern rock! Love your reaction to 38 special.
"Caught up in you" "Hold on Loosely" and "Rockin' in to the night" are probably their most popular....
Awesome song
Saw the band three times in their heydays in the early-mid-80’s and then again just 2 years ago. While my all-time fav of theirs is Hold On Loosely, Chain Lightning is such a kick ass great song. Seeing them perform this song live was awe-inspiring.
Great tune! Always dug the groove of those drums. Love the guitar.
such an underplayed song, not their biggest hit but imo their best also who else could use forlorn in a song.
When asked which song he liked to perform live the best, Don Barnes the lead singer said without a doubt “Chain Lightning”.
My FAVORITE 38 Special song, by far!!
It was a radio single, BJ has classic rock radar... Also Southern Rock.
I saw these guys play in some beach bar in NC in 1980. Great southern rock band. Back Alley Sally is a great song 👌🥁
I saw them in Myrtle Beach in 81 with Blackfoot
I'm glad you guys reacted to this song most people only react to the bigger hits from 38 Special.
Now do some of 38 Specials grittier southern rock songs sung by Donnie Van Zant like Stone Cold Believer, Bring It On, Homeless Guitar, Rebel To Rebel, Back Door Stranger and Back On The Track
I've never heard this one. Such a vibe! Try Journey's "Chain Reaction" sometime. You can try 38 Special's "Rockin Into The Night."
Rockin into the night
They are a good southern rock band
I seen them live in 1980 they played this song WOW🤘
This was never a hit single but one of the best ones anyways and it is from 1982 , you were right about the 80s vibe . ...Jeff Carlisi was the lead guitarist on most of their songs ,vocalist Don Barnes is the rhythm guitar player .. Absolutely Great Band especially live back in the 80's 🎸🎶

My favorite 38. special song

Jeff Carlisi is the guitarist. Late 70s early 80s.
They have so many great songs. One of my favorite is Rockin into the night and Wild eyed southern boy
Vocals spot on

Y’all want to see them really throw down? Find the live version of “Turn it on”
Their best song is fantasy girl... Check that one out
Oddly enough this one never made the charts for whatever reason. They have tons of good music. With many of these groups sometimes the hidden songs on the album that never went pop are actually their best!
Donnie VanZant's voice really set them apart from other southern rock bands. That's probably were the pop contemporary rock sound comes from.
You mean Don Barnes’ voice.
He’s the one who sings all the hits.
Thanks for this one. I might have mentioned this to y'all awhile ago. Not sure. Back where you belong is a killer one too
If you liked this maybe look up the band Lords of Distortion, and play some of their songs
BJ is one lucky dude.
I enjoyed this song so much I got a metal band to do a cover of it. You should check it out if you get a chance -- the band is called Thunder and Lightning
