3 guitars, bass and a drummer. No fancy keyboards, just pure southern guitar.

So back in the day... this was everyday music. drivin around with the windows down and the music playin loud. Areosmith, Zeppelin, the Who, Foghat, it was common every day stuff. We didnt realize then, how it would go downhill as the end of the era faded.

Sad it's gone, and I'm 66 years old and took all that fabulous music for granted. It was just like breathing hearing this music.
It was everywhere, and Lord Knows I never thought it would disappear.

Both they and Skynyrd were from Jacksonville.
After Skynyrd died, the "Who's gonna take their place" was raised. Molly Hatched and 38 Special both stood up, said "hold my beer." And let her rip.

I remember when my dad told me this was his favorite song when he was a teenager in high school driving around in his ‘69 Chevelle. He passed away when I was 18 y/o just a couple months before graduation and everytime I hear this song I can’t help but to crank it up to the max and think of him. ❤️❤️

Molly Hatchet is an AWESOME band. You really need to go down that rabbit hole. My fav is Dreams I'll Never See. Guarantee you'll love it, has a great guitar solo as well. Great cover art on all their albums.

That is a deep rabbit hole lol. I have been a Hatchet fan since e 1983. Up to that point I was all country. This isn't even their best song lol. The Rambler, Fall of the Peacemakers, Dreams I'll Never See, the whole first album. Molly Hatchet was famous for pinning you to the wall from the first note. Just Nota fan of anything after 89

Remember the concert in 1981 on the Flirting with Disaster tour. The song actually released on 1979. My husband at the time, actuality got to help their roadies load the truck after the concert. Not sure how he did that but he did lol. Love this song still today 43 years later.

The band’s first 2 albums defined them. Frontman Danny Joe Brown had to quit the band after the 2nd album due to diabetes which eventually killed him. The rest of the original band have all passed, a few of them in their 50s due to “hard living”. MH was the last southern rock band to achieve success as the genre faded. I saw them twice & they were incredibly exciting. They even did their version of Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” as an encore, which was enormously ballsy, but they pulled it off. RIP all those guys.

Yeah, these boy's can play! 😁Now you need to hear their version of Greg Allman's "Dreams," it's a rarity when a cover is better than the original. The guitar work is both, melancholic and sublime...

Like most, I know exactly where the whistle is and saw the “Dukes of Hazzard” movie was coming on. My girl didn’t want to watch, I told her “The sound track’s worth it” I named the song from the first note (easy, nothing like it), but when I whistled on time, it blew her mind.

All I can say is that I treasure all of the music from back in the day. The 70's was such an amazing time for rock bands period. Doobie Brothers, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Foghat, ZZ Top, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Queen and of course Molly Hatchet. You had the best singer songwriters with James Taylor, Seals and Croft, John Denver, Loggins and Messina. No better R&B than in the 70's too. The blue eyed soul of Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald and we had some of the best music of all time from Earth, Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and you can't leave out MJ. His Off The Wall album and Jackson's Triumph are definitely two of my favorites. I notice you have reacted to a number of MJ and Paul McCartney songs... if you want to hear something fun - react to Mick Jagger and the Jackson's song "State of Shock". It is so much fun just because you don't ever expect this pairing. I loved disco too. I started dancing with a partner and we worked with some local dance instructors to choreograph some routines. Of course initially it included the Bee Gees and normal disco tunes but my favorites were the routines we came up with for Toto's Georgy Porgy and Boz Scaggs Jojo. I thought it was so amusing to be dancing to a song that sounded as sophisticated as Jojo when the lyrics are talking about a drug dealing pimp. No one ever seemed to catch on. I love the 80's too. My favorite artist of all time is George Michael - You need to do something live from him. He was just spectacular. George has so many wonderful duets. He has one with Paul McCartney called Heal the Pain and I honestly have a hard time being able to tell which one of them is singing at any one time. They sound so familiar but beautiful together. After Paul's wife Linda passed away, they held a memorial concert for her. George sang Paul's song The Long and Winding Road and I well up everytime I hear it. Paul said George did a better job with the song than he did. Anyway, the 70's was when I really started listening to music and what an amazing time it was. I am so glad you guys are giving yourselves the gift of hearing these songs and letting us watch. So fun!

You hear whistles in many Southern Rock songs. Saw Molly Hatchet twice in the early 80"s, awesome shows. 3 guitars and the bass all moving in sync. Danny Joe never stands still unless he's singing, he's dancing, clapping and moving on that stage. 🤘

A lot of well-deserved 'heys' from Nick on this one. Kick-ass Southern rock. I LOVE this song. Probably my favorite Southern rock song. The music is incredible, but the lyrics are awesome, too. Next time you get around to them, Dreams I'll Never See would be a great choice. It's totally different from this one but equally as good. Great Southern rock guitar solo along with a dreamy tempo in the rest of the song. I don't listen to Molly Hatchet often but when I do, so do my neighbors.

Molly Hatchet was one of those bands that were always opening up a concert back in the late 70's and early 80's along with bands like Legs Diamond, Axe, Point Blank, and UFO. Y'all should check other songs from them like Gator Country, Fall of the Peacemakers, and Bloody Reunion (different singer). Unfortunately all the original members off this record have all passed away....R.I.P.

One of the best live bands I ever saw. Saw then at a place called Shiley Acres near Inwood WV. Probably around 1986 or so. It was a stage set up in a pasture surrounded by a chain link fence. Shows were always on Sunday and I think they started at noon. You couldn't buy beer on Sundays in WV until 1pm on Sundays and there was a 7/11 about a mile from the venue. The parking lot was packed with people waiting to but beer and you generally missed the opening act waiting in line for beer. They came out on stage firing off shot guns and for a small band sounded really good. And they were genuinely having fun which made it all the better.

Thanks guys. So glad you reacted to this song. It has always been one of my favorites. I love the drums and the guitar solo, but my favorite parts are when the guitar in the second chorus comes in. He never plays the exact same thing. It is always slightly different which I always thought was a cool effect. When Ryan said he could dance to it, I had to laugh. I used to go in my basement and crank up the sound and dance to it all the time.

Reminds me of the days playing NASCAR video game with my son over 20 years ago. This song would play on a loop with a couple of other tunes during the race.
    Great song

Molly Hatchet was another Florida southern rock band from the '70's that utilized the 3 guitar lineup, the other 2 being Skynyrd and The Outlaws. You guys should check out Gator Country or Bounty Hunter by Hatchet next.

The ULTIMATE high-hat song is Walking on the Moon by the Police. Stewart Copeland puts on an absolute clinic. Y’all should definitely give that one a listen!
