It's a fact: in the early days of Kyokushin karate, blows to the face were allowed. This resulted in a lot of injuries and, consequently, a lot of blood, which ended up causing many students to drop out of training. ... in the head and face.
I thought every martial art have their own propose, mostly in the ancient time is for combet or self defense. then when the war has gone it turn to a sport ring they try to reduce the risk of attack to getting dead or serious injure as well. Muay get stop for a while since first recovery stage of Rattakosin Era, 2 peplo got kill in the ring, 1 got dead of serious injure, and another 2 got disabled. Then the king order to stop the muay Thai for a while and develop to Muay Thai sport ring nowadays

Muay Boran is claasified to 2objectives,
1)For killing or body destroy by any part of opponent body and also even hit to ground which for fighting with enemy. 2)For sport to avoid dieing or disables for opponent however it depend on rule setting up for each tournament.

MUAY "BORAN" Word which donot use Muay "Thai" because Thailand has start 1939(80 year ago) before this country is called Siam and before that called Ayuthaya.. . Muay thai today is a sport.
Ayuthaya also called Siam. just like foreigner call Bangkok. Ayuthaya was name of royal city (capital).
Boran mean "ancient". Muay Thai also develop from many Muay Boran style to use in standard rule. So can call Muay Thai this day is mean main steam Muay Thai style. And Muay boran is some kind of root, hidden technich.

Obviously variations have evolved over time including the sport orientated but traditional Khmer boxing is is so interesting and it's great to see the young guys keep it alive.
A lot of people don't even know Khmer boxing is actually Cambodian version of Muay Thai where, elbows and knees are more dominant.

Muay Thai Boran was designed for killing. Boran means ancient. In the ancient time, Thai warriors used Muay Thai Boran to defeat the enemy and to protect the king in the battle field. Muay Thai is for sport. It adapted from Muay Thai Boran.
This is really great to watch! Crazy how that high round house kick and that 180 degree spin here kick caused his opponent to do a semi summersault! I thought from a physics stand point that those two kicks would just cause the opponent to just fall backwards. I remember seeing those bone breaking techniques in the Tony Jaa's movie "The Protector". Are those movements of Muay Boran or from Tony Jaa's personally created Muay Thai style?
