her road to rio was quite rough, she experienced what they call "lost move syndrome" where she was suddenly overcome by fear of a sport she had been doing for years, and forgot how to trampoline. she recovered in time for the olympics

I'm Canadian and I"m not sure what happened to Li Dan's score. She clearly edged McLennan - did she run overtime or something? She should have been 1st or 2nd at least
nah..McLennan had a flight time of 16+, Li was under 16. its called judges' preference, that should be the slogan for rio 2016

after looking at the video, it may be that the canadian, though staying out of the center, still kept more to the middle of the trampoline while the chinese seemed to bounce more laterally..
The reason Maclennan won is, it was argued that she stayed in the air longer for the jumps as opposed to Li Dan who had a perfect routine to everyone, but wasn't jumping as high and staying in the air long enough. You see, It is difficult to stay centered the higher you jump. So she lost on Flight time.
But, I still don't see it. They just gave it to Maclennan because it's technical enough that they can get away with it and they wanted to have someone win back to back gold because it hasn't been done ever.

this is the problem with sports that are judged. unlike sports like swimming and races, there is a clear factual measurment of who wins. this kind of sport has space for judges preference. it is clear china should have won. im canadian and can admit that. there is a scoring system but judges still have influence. could have been biased or even paid off.

I think flight time and arm position is what got her. I doubt that the gold was paid off, but I definitely agree there may have been favouritism. But you can see the difference in arm position between the two.
Li Dan’s performance was honestly amazing
Li Dan was a clear winner, even the commentators were shocked when Rosannagh was given the gold. I even thought that she didn't even deserved the silver , much less the gold as Bryony Page from Britain was better then her. Total disgrace.

Li dan had a substantially lower time of flight than the others, which ultimately is what lead to the bronze. The time of flight is measured electronically so no bias there. She was also not quite as deep in her positions, and did wander a fair bit. Also arm positions. I haven't done an in-depth judgement myself but it seems more or less fair, although some bias is possible
Li Dan was NOT Happy at all. She was good though. I like Rosie but that seemed kind of off a bit

As a trampolinist, I can safely say that Li Dan outperformed Rosannagh by miles. The podium should have been Li Dan first, Bryony Page second (she executed her routine very well, stayed center also) and then Rosannagh Maclennan.

Li Dan’s routine was really impressive. Her moves were cleaner than the others, she maintained great in the middle, her height was maintained... she herself couldn’t believe that she got such a low score. This is unfair at all costs..

What these women do is unbelievable, going up to that height is difficult enough at it is. But doing that, twisting and turning in the air in such a swift and flawless manner without a hint of nervousness on their body or face is something on another level.

Olympics was something I felt proud to be a part of by simply watching it at home with friends and family or even alone with my snacks and a good smoke. It was exciting and honest as far as I thought...until this happened. Gone are the good old days of sport.
i’m a gymnast, so i know just about nothing about trampoline, but i feel like canada’s routine was a bit slow. she seemed to go straight into her skills immediately once her feet hit the tramp, versus waiting until the top of her jump. like i said, i’m not sure if that how you do it in trampolining (sorry if that’s the wrong word, i’m really uneducated lol), but in gymnastics we always wait until the top of our jump to start flipping. is it different in the trampoline world? haha anyway ya, i feel like canada was just very closed and pretty slow altogether. can anyone explain to my if/why i’m wrong?? haha thx 😂💕
you are definitely right, and that is what we aim for. I would even say it its MORE important for trampolinists than other disciplines since the time spent in the air (AKA how high you jump) is an important aspect of your final score. As for the Canadian, she was probably just stressed. The gymnasts tend to "jump off" the trampoline when they are stressed.

The Chinese girl should have one but quite some bit, no offence to the Canadian, but they had very similar routines and performances, but the Chinese girl stuck far more central and the landing was just a bit cleaner

2021 still remembered these epicness of the 2016 olympic trampolines.
As a professional trampolinist I think that the judges made correct decisions here and the medals were well deserved (but I do know bryony the silver medalist personally as we trampoline at the same club) and seeing bryonys excitement when she came back to trampolining was great and she is definitely a great inspiration to us all here at STA ❤️
