Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus: The Good and Bad

  • After one year of ownership, I go over the good and bad of my Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus.
Overall, I recommend the Model 3 Standard Range Plus. I think for its price, you get a lot of features and perks such as autopilot, 260mi range, great interior, entertainment center, dashcam & sentry mode, low cost to change and many more. Although there are some bad things about this car I rate it an overall 8 out of 10.

Your A/C Problem... After you run your A/C. Before you shut off the car, plan a few minutes before you park. Run the fans without the A/C. This will dry out the wetness and help eliminate the mildew smell.

My 2021 SR+ has auto dimming side mirrors. I think there was only a short subset in 2020 that didn’t have them equipped but all the new ones should have them. Spot on about the footwell lighting and fog lights though, super annoying.

I notice phantom braking when on the interstate and the car enters a bridge or a steep incline. Other than these, I have never experienced this issue. I think the car isn't sure if the incline is a wall or the bridge is a fence. It will slam on brakes to prevent collisions. However, it recognizes the issue and releases the brake very quickly. The only way you can be rear-ended is if someone was tailgating you. The experience is very alarming. If I'm a bit exhausted, which is when I use autopilot, it fills me with fear and wakes me up! lol. At this point, I do the driving.

@@TeslaPhotographer I hate the emergency avoidance feature, cannot handle narrow, windy UK roads, comes on all the time and is dangerous. Also, head rests are in a really bad fixed position, small detail but almost enough for me not to buy another Tesla, painfully uncomfortable on long journeys. I'm standard height 6 foot so cannot understand why they are fixed and so badly designed. With kids cannot leave them in the car and pop into a shop, will set off alarm and also worries me as they cannot get out if there is say a battery fire as doors lock. Also, I sat in the back to tend to my son to realise I couldn't open the door (child lock) so had to climb into the front. Child lock should come on only when travelling not when parked.

I notice that on ordinary urban roads, my Model 3 will phantom brake if a parked car is even slightly overlapping my lane. However, if I am in a line of moving traffic, it doesn't tend to phantom brake - as if it's focussed on the car ahead and takes it's cue from that. Either way, it's very frustrating and downright frightening for passengers if you're not expecting it!

The fresh air filters (pollen filters) need to be changed at least every two years in any car and usually it's recommended to be changed every year. So it's no wonder if it starts to smell and the ventilation doesn't work as intended if you keep using the expired filters.

This is actually an easy problem for Tesla engineering team to detect and address -- aka track the locations where "phantom-breaking" frequently occur and check the source/input terrain data (from google/etc). There's probably bad source-data.

Oh I’m all into exhaust and all that. I’m not into it being so ridiculous that I can be heard a block away. That’s all And thank ya!!

The loud car owner is projecting all kinds of sounds into people's homes and its basically noise pollution for everyone who doesn't like unreasonably loud exhaust systems.

"I just did a few things to make it stand out a bit more"
    Literally 10 seconds later
"Someone who drives a car like that was really lacking attention as a child and has some making up to do and wants everyone to look at them"
    Irony at it's best!
Don't judge people's taste too much now mate. I have loved fast loud sportbikes, sports cars and even boring Subaru Foresters. Now I'm just months to weeks away from a Tesla. Taste for me has changed but don't deny people their joys because it's not your cup of tea ❤️

I don't think Tesla's are the right car for you. Perhaps consider something to suit you better. Something ugly, boring and non exciting.

A person that drives a nice car with a gasoline engine lacks attention and are trying to stand out and be seen? Coming from a guy talking in front of a camera about his car

He’s doing it on a video sharing platform. You go to TH-cam to watch people talk about things. You don’t go to the streets to hear people rev their loud engines.

40 to 70 dollars cost a month to charge? BS! I live in California, my home has solar panels and my bill to charge 4 times a week for a month is over 350.00.
