As somebody who is about to sell my 5.5yr old model 3 performance with 60k miles on it, I’m super disappointed in the range reduction. It needs charging twice on road trips it used to do off a single charge. The range is down noticeably although otherwise it has aged okay. I’m happy to be selling and moving to a more luxurious vehicle. In 2019 it was the best production car in the world, but boy the competition has caught up.
I bought a similar ‘18 long range rwd, 80k, 19” wheels, fsd. Purchased direct from Tesla late last year for 25000. Battery is 301 at 100%. I think Tesla’s build quality was at a peak these first couple years of model 3 production. One observation is that Tesla doesn’t change the cabin air filter as reconditioning. Also check the radiator/ heat exchanger for debris. Changing / cleaning both will greatly help your AC.
Also just wanted to add my regular car is 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro X and once I got back from CA to TX and got in my truck I wanted to cry. I got so used to the Model 3 performance and ease of use my truck literally sucked in EVERY WAY. I have been looking for a Tesla ever since :))))

I usually rent teslas when traveling. I have not had any issues on a 2 week trip with the car. I would charge for 20 min every 2 days. That’s it. Parked at the hotel and didn’t worry about it. I drove all around LA and Mira Loma and absolutely 0 issues. Even took it up the mountains. Guess what?! I ended up with more charge when I got back hahaha. Cuz the car charged the whole way down! I literally didn’t have to use brakes at all, the one pedal driving was amazing! It literally slowed down on its own. Also the car is so planted ( cuz of the battery ) u can corner it like it’s on rails. Holy crap that was fun!!!!

I can't believe people buy NEW Teslas actually. The newer Model 3 and Model Y long range AWD version both see their range revised downward again just last week. And with Tesla recommended charging of no more than 80%, the stated range of Model Y LR AWD of 308 is reduced to 246 miles. That is not what we call a "long range" model. And if you get the Model Y LR AWD with the 20 inch rims and tires package, the range is further decreased to just 287 miles. and 80% recommended charging of that further reduce the usable range to 229 miles only. Forget it.
I got a 2015 i3 back in 2018 for less than a third of what it cost new. Though it's getting a little long in the tooth now, I still LOVE it. Built well, drives well and I've saved a ton of money over that time.
I too have been weighing the pros and cons of buying a used Tesla. Google obviously watches everything that you do ( and they own TH-cam), so I’ve been on both CarGurus and Tesla’s website comparing “ Apple to apples. I’m pretty set on spending more to buy a car from Tesla, as they give an extended warranty on every used car that they sell. And , they have all the accessories you’re going to want at the pickup location. Thanks so much for this very informative video.Well Done!
Looking at buying a 2020 model 3 LR early next year. My biggest concern is obviously the battery, but I've seen the prices have come down a lot, and so have the prices of used Teslas. I could buy a used model 3, and replace the battery for about the same price I could buy the Elantra N new, which is the car I was looking at.
That's great and all but I'd be curious to find out how much you are paying to insure this "cheap" Tesla. I currently drive a Honda Accord and am paying about $1,500 for insurance. Called my insurance company to get a quote on covering an old Model 3. Cost was more than double of what I was paying for the Accord and the rise in insurance actually would have ate the savings on not using gas. So no thanks.
Sorry to hear that. Every insurance provider I’ve gotten quotes from for cars over the years has been pretty drastically different. There are lots of situations and factors at play too such as location. My insurance was half of what I was quoted at other providers. So I’m all in with Statefarm. They’re taken great care of me
Got a 2021 w 24k mi from Tesla, smells like it’s new still. I charge at home, and there’s two superchargers about 2mi away. Makes it more convenient than waiting at Costco for cheaper gas. And I’m always ready to go.
Dunno about the USA, but in the UK it’s not just the cost of electric (higher priced here) and tyres you have to worry about! Car insurance here especially for EV’s is extremely expensive! Plus whereas Road tax is/was free for an EV it won’t be soon!
Sorry, liked your comment in the middle of service I’m filming for a client Lol (I’m a full time videographer) There’s a service mode you can enter. The quickest way honestly is to use the Tessie app. I did so after I bought it. The quickest way on site is to look at the max range of what they have it charged to (which should be at 100% at delivery) and look at the original range to see the miles lost vs the original estimate
@@ClipPlayTVthank you and sorry for the rush. i appreciate it so much. is there a reason you went 2018 on the year of your car and do u have a miles per year you went by when purchasing?
Just purchased for $25k (no accidents and one owner ) the 2016 Model X 75D for our first electric vehicle. Going into it I knew we were going to take a hit on the range as it has 90k miles. This suv will be primarily used by my wife for commuting 15 miles each way to work and me doing errands around town and such. The range degradation is roughly 70 mile loss at 80% charge but we are ok with that. Hopefully in a few years we will upgrade to a more robust battery pack like the 100D if available. Just go into it with eye wide open and not expect it to go to the moon and back on a charge. The interior is impeccable as is the outside. Liking it so far. Honestly I'm waiting on solid state battery packs to come along. That will be a revolution.

I've been thinking about buying a used Tesla. The prices of used ones has come down so much and I could use my Tesla for powering my house in Grid down situations really has me thinking about buying one.

Wow, your video popped up just when I needed it. I'm considering buying a 2018 Tesla 3 Dual Motor AWD Long Range. It's custom painted green and that's my primary worry. It is so hard to tell just how good the paint job is and whether that's going to be a problem down the road. Oh, only 34K miles, very clean black and white interior, and priced only a smidgen more than yours. That all said, I really love the color.

That and the $4,000 ev tax credit are something i actually forgot to add. No problem! At home my charge level is 32A, which goes from 20%-80% in around 3ish hours. Sometimes a bit more if charging to 100. But it works totally fine for an overnight plug in. Charger installation was $1,300 because of all of the regulation (Atlanta metro area) and distance from the breaker(it required a conduit and outdoor NEMA outlet which is a bit more involved).
On the Tesla website it said that their used cars’ batteries are only warrantied for a year after the date of purchase or 120K odometer miles whichever happens first. You said 8 years. Perhaps I read it wrong.
There is a used vehicle warranty which is separate and more inclusive than the power train and battery warranty. This is the 1 year 10K warranty. There is also the battery and drivetrain warranty which goes 8 years from the original date of purchase (or 120K) and this stays on the vehicle regardless but it only covers the battery and drive units. So two warranties total. The used vehicle warranty is like a regular warranty but not as long

Enjoyed the video. In CA, charging at home is about $100/month average. Much better than my previous $500 plus monthly gas bill. I would recommend installing a Tesla wall charger and charge at the highest 48amp setting which charges much the car much faster.
For battery life I recommend you limit home daily charging to 30A
Just bought a 2021 (which I recommend as that is when they put in the double pain glass with sound proofing) Model Y which was only 31K
This is so well done, Brady!
Thank you so so much!!
Awesome video dude. I'm in the market for a used car and have watched tons of videos about different makes and models (I'm partial to the Audi SQ5) but watching your video convinced me Tesla is the way to go, mainly for the yearly cost. Keep making videos like this one. Thanks
Glad to hear it! Thank you so much. I’m actually meeting up with some folks and doing some roller shots today for another video!
Let me know if there’s anything I can help you with
This is the most useful and practical Tesla video out there.
Mine have 222 333 km, 85% batteries efficiency. It’s a Model 3 LR RWD 2018. I paid it $19k CDN at the beginning of the month. She travelled the USA twice from Montreal.
Living in Atlanta how much is your car insurance?
Ehhhh it’s not awful.
I have all my business + liability + auto bundled and pay around $220 per month
@@ClipPlayTVfor just one car ?
Got my 2019 Model 3 Performance last year and it has been flawless. A pleasure to drive and costs very little to run. (...and the acceleration always makes you smile...)
Sharp car! I bought a 2018 Model 3 Performance last year. Totally love it. Can’t believe I can drive a car this nice for $30K. My home charging costs me $25-$30 per month in AZ.
Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.
I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second daughter. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks.

I found a 2021 SR+ with the LFP battery and only 26k miles on. Got it for 25k. The low mileage & battery got me
I’m looking at buying Used and was looking for a video like this on buying a 5+ years old Tesla and seeing how one’s opinion. Thank you
bought a long range 2019 model 3 AWD. it had 84k Km on the clock. love the thing and it smells of new and it feels pretty new. here's hoping it maintains itself well especially the battery. it's my biggest concern
NEVER buy new. I bought a 2014 Model S back in 2019 for $41K and it was a bargain. Last week I sold it privately for $19K and bought a 2022 Model Y extended range AWD fully loaded (with FSD) for $41K.
Did you buy it privately or through a dealer?
I purchased brand new 2024 Y AWD LR for $40K after Fed EV credit. Sometimes new makes sense.
Nice! I bought a 2014 Model S back in 2019 for $32k. I sold it last month for $17k. I'm going to replace it with either a 2022 or newer LR M3 or M3P as soon as rates fall to where I prefer them (had a 5% rate on the S, can't stomach double that with a 720+ score). Until then I'll drive my 1995 Lexus LS400 and wince once a week when I pull into the gas station and slide under it to change the oil periodically! Lol.
I'm in a conundrum weather to buy a brand new mitsubishi mirage or a used tesla which would be about the same 23k canadian
@@Fernie-vv2ei ....23k Canadian....how bad are your winters? Range loss in the winter is indeed a thing. Anyone who doesn't have the ability to charge at home AND has harsh winters to deal with....I tell them to think twice before buying an EV.
I just picked my 2018 tesla model 3 up and absolutely enjoy it.
Great video. I just gave my ‘18 to my son as his first car. Absolutely agree, these are still amazing cars.
Just picked up a 2021 SR plus for 25 7k miles kinda nuts excited for it
In the UK you can now buy a used MS or M3 for
Don’t forget the $4000 federal tax credit and state incentives. Looking at a $21,000 M3 from 2020 and after credits and incentives it should be about $10,000. Crazy deal.
Can you qualify for those incentives for used vehicles?
Wow I live in Georgia too. Getting a used model 3 soon from Carvana.
Just bought a 21 plate M3LR and it’s 50% better than I imagined
Thanks for Sharing I'm definitely looking at the tesla.
I’m still think about buying a used Tesla.
I think it’s worth it! Just make sure you balance the price and mileage and history.
I bought a 2016 Tesla Model S with 180,000 miles on it a few months ago, and so far I love it, and it runs like brand new
@@jrwrock3592 thanks for sharing.
What about the battery ?@@jrwrock3592
My battery failed as soon as the warranty ran out. And 310 miles range is horrible.
Insuring my Tesla model 3 is about $900/year. Same as my Acura.
Sorry to hear that.
Every insurance provider I’ve gotten quotes from for cars over the years has been pretty drastically different. There are lots of situations and factors at play too such as location. My insurance was half of what I was quoted at other providers. So I’m all in with Statefarm. They’re taken great care of me
What is your insurance company? Ask different ones for quote. I had to switch insurance company after year 1 which they increased rate by 35%.
Just got a model 3 2018, one user and in great shape. I’m in loveeeeee ❤
I love kislux that on the butterfly bag it says auguri / tanti auguri which means happy birthday
Looking into buying a 2022 long range awd with 64,000 miles for $24,000. Is this a good deal & what should i be looking for. Thanks 👍🏾
So how much for the charge port installation at the house?
Could you add FSD V12.3.1 to this Tesla?
Yes you can! Just have to upgrade to the HW 3.0 autopilot computer. I believe it’s $1K or included free if you buy FSD outright
Got a 2021 w 24k mi from Tesla, smells like it’s new still. I charge at home, and there’s two superchargers about 2mi away. Makes it more convenient than waiting at Costco for cheaper gas. And I’m always ready to go.
How much is cost of insurance? Is it twice that what you would pay for Toyota Camry?
Don’t remember the exact figure but it was only $5 per month more to switch my ford transit connect over to the model 3.
Actually about the same as same year used Toyota Camry. Drop the Collison / comprehensive if you can self insure and have no loan.
How can a Tesla replace a van with all the room there is for tools or whatever there is ?
getting quoted $4000 for a charger is wild, our BP wallbox was under £400 around 4 years ago
Dunno about the USA, but in the UK it’s not just the cost of electric (higher priced here) and tyres you have to worry about! Car insurance here especially for EV’s is extremely expensive! Plus whereas Road tax is/was free for an EV it won’t be soon!
how do u find out the battery degeneration when buying used? what procedures are u doing to determine this
???
Sorry, liked your comment in the middle of service I’m filming for a client Lol (I’m a full time videographer)
There’s a service mode you can enter.
???
I did the same thing. Bought a 2018 model 3. It came with FSD which surprised the hell out of me. Only 15k miles.
The quality of this video speaks for itself! I love it.
Going on 3 years with my model 3. Most convenient car I’ve ever owned. Can’t remember the last time I’ve been to gas station and very low maintenance.. which consisted of windshield fluid so far
what's it cost to insure for a month?
I am looking at buying a Tesla for myself. The choice is a 2020 model with 80,000km or spend $10,000 more for a 21 model with 30,000km on the clock. Both contain autopilot. Both of them are from the Tesla dealership in Melbourne
On the face of it, what do you guys think?
I've been thinking about buying a used Tesla. The prices of used ones has come down so much and I could use my Tesla for powering my house in Grid down situations really has me thinking about buying one.
I’m currently looking at a 2018 model 3. It has 110000 miles and asking price is 14.5k it’s a long range model, should I pull the trigger?
Just purchased a 2019 model 3 dual motor long range with only 18k miles on it for 25k. I'm excited I watched this video
For me just the savings on gas vs home charging will pay my entire car payment when I get a Tesla or any other BEV. I love my Toyota Sequoia but wont miss the $75 gas fillups
I just bought a 2021 LR with 60k miles
Loved this review !!!! Now I’m looking at used models via Telsa! Seems they give better pricing vs carmax ! And newer / used models 🎉
Why did the charger guys pull up with a small army of electric vehicles to install your charger?
Like rvs or a recreational vehicle. What
Tesla is the best EV but from my personal experience, I won't recommend a Standard Plus version. If you want a used one, go for a long-range
Absolutely. Long Range all the way
I am so thinking of getting a used Tesla but I am so nervous.
People don’t realize that ICE vehicles lose MPGs too, depending on how old the engine is and the maintenance being done.
Yea I just picked up a 2019 SR+ a month ago for $21,700 with 39k on it. Jumped on the deals when the prices tanked. Super happy with it
Nice. I loved my Model S P90D but it wast totalled and am looking for a replacement vehicle. Maintentence and battery issues are my biggest concerns on a used Tesla. I would be buying a 2015-2018 depending on trim and price.
Yes I definitely looking to get one I drive a little over a 100 miles a day , does Tesla take trade ins
Seriously have been contemplating buying a Tesla. We live on a military base and don’t have to worry about utilities. Seems like a no brainer however my only concern is if I buy used. The battery warranty has been hesitating as knowing my luck I’ll get slapped with a bad one and have to pay out of pocket. Thanks for the great video as it really added some firepower to help convince the wife!
Thank you. I'm looking at 2021 LR for 25k (4k ev instant rebate) under 80k miles. Any thoughts?
Excellent video Brady, just subscribed!
I got a 2018 Model S 100D for $29.5k with 81k miles. Insane that when it came out, it was around $100k. Buying new is ridiculous.
You said you didn't pay $4k for the home install of the higher-end charger, what did it cost? That's a consideration for me Also, how long does it take to recharge it daily? Thanks for your video, it was helpful..
Got a 2020 model S for 29k... I don't understand why they are so cheap. The car is insanely fast (not plaid but faster than any other car I've driven, ever), smooth, great stereo and has an app with tons of features.
Could have have given us charge times from your house or how much you actually paid for them to come install the charger.
The used vehicle warranty is like a regular warranty but not as long
The 8 year warranty for the HV battery is based on a federal law, not a Tesla decision.
My son. Performance Y 2022..he loves. Royal blue
How much they run ya
I just got a 2022 Model 3 SR for only $27 plus tax title etc. just over $30k out the door. Only has 13k miles on it. Smells new too. Absolutely flawless until my toddler got in it.
I just got a 19 Dual Motor LR. its pretty awesome paid 25k. 41k on the clock. FSD included. However..... I got it 1 month ago, and its loosing 1KWH of Nominal full pack per week. Thankfully Tesla has the warranty for 120k or 8 years. So when it fails It should be coved.
Were you able to add any kind of extended warranty from Tesla or another company? Nice vid. Im looking to get one as i have already spent so much money on maintaining my gas powered car.
