News from Mumine. I was visiting her family this summer in 2018. They told me that Mumine finished the high school, got married and lives now in Istanbul. She found her husband in the internet and felt in love with him. The mother told me "She was running away". But the parents didn`t seem much angry about that. They showed me a picture from the wedding, were the whole family were traveling to Istanbul. The funny fact is, that we gave to Mumine a mobile-telephone after the shooting 2009 as a present. Life doesn’t get more traditional than this anywhere in Europe. There are some Gorani villages in Kosovo that are more traditional than the rest of Kosovo, but they’re not as secluded as this. I was born in Macedonia the 80s, and I would still see older women in traditional clothing in the markets. But, this has practically disappeared. There’s some shift to wear traditional-ish clothing among some young Albanians in Macedonia, but its difficult to call this traditional, since it has little to do with Albanian tradition and more with Arabic and Turkish. It’s made up of plain long dresses and burkhas
nothing will satisfy her, if she runs off to the city for education she will need to support herself and pay for the schooling with no support from family. Its crazy how often people throw away a more natural green lifestyle based around family, to become slaves to an industry that cares nothing for them. The grass is always greener on the other side.
Emperator eee nyyaa is it really? Short answer no, they probably identify themselves Turkish or maybe Ottoman or even maybe Macedonian or another ethnic they know their ancestors had, who knows? It's all about what they identify themselves about.
brayen brian Yörüks are Turkic Turkish group of Anatolia and Balkans. They settled down Anatolia after Seljuks. And they settled down Balkans after Ottomans. Their ancestor’s raided Byzantine lands in Anatolia amd settled down. So they are grandsons of Seljuks. I am half Yörük too.
brayen brian They always identify themselves Turkish and generally they vote for Turkish nationalist parties. They generally care about their Turkish heritage. Stereotypically they known for drinkers, fighters, fun people.

They should have there own choice without bringing shame to there family. I agree with Girls keeping there Honor and not be loose like western girls. Real Turks (Yoruks) are blonde with blue and Green eyes. Being blonde is very common in Yoruk (Real Turk) Villages. Macedonian blood is not the reason why they are blonde and They don't have macedonian blood because in Yoruks they are not allowed to marry with non - Turks. They are the purest Turks. Before coming to macedonia they were already White. Even in Afganistan Yoruks(Turks) are blonde like balcan Turks, this is about their genetics
I don't get why the women must dress up in 19th century clothes that cover almost their entire body, while the men wear jeans and t shirts... I saw women working the fields, the packaging and the delivery, while the younger men seem to just be standing around.... Am I missing something here?
this is a pre industrial traditions in anatolia and balkans. men are warrior. their job is protecting their family. they generally didnt work in farms. women are responsible from the home. food farm work bla bla..
@@serdarbozkurt8544 🤔 So, as "warriors", the men spend 99.9% of their time just hanging out, shooting the breeze with their neighbor "warriors" , waiting for a war to start, so they can go "protect their families"? You know damn well their wives are like, "WTF kinda bullshit is this"!? It's one helluva scam! I bet you that many of the "warriors" would pack up and leave the country the second an actual war started! 👉 That's precisely what happened in north Africa after Obama destabilized Egypt and Libya by helping to take out their existing political leadership. Almost as soon as things started getting bad, the men packed up and left, ALONE for southern Europe! Despite the "news" media's dishonest portrayal of them as "mostly women and children refugees", they were actually about 95%+ men! All you had to do was watch live coverage of the refugee camps, and you rarely ever saw a woman OR a child there! When interviewed and asked why they left Egypt, Libya(and other countries that weren't even at war), their answer was always something like, "I just want to find a job and make more money", or "because I was told I'd be given free money, free housing, free food, etc".
All the people in the comments are delusional if they think women don't demand value. Yeah here they are a little more forward with it then we are in the west these days. Also the whole so young thing creeps me out but if you think a 21 yr old "good looking" women doesn't try to demand a higher value for herself (maybe/ most likely in the west at least her father doesn't get the money/ some other thing of value and she does instead) then you might be fooling yourself.
That mountain is Plackovica, above the town of Radovis. There are many "Yoruk" village's. yes, they are Turks and their ancestors moved to the Balkans during the ottoman era as a state policy, approximately beginning of the 14th century. Most of them moved back to Turkey after Turkey was founded. But there are still lots of Turkish people who live in rural areas as you can see. We call them yörük in Turkish, which means Nomad in English.
Okay, I know. But in the movie the father says he paid 3000 euro for her school. She was 7th grade by then. She went to some local macedonian school. There is no way he paid 3000.
Mikheil Ghvinianidze that's not what extortion is.... extortion is an entirely different concept, they're talking about a dowry and actually jesting about it more then anything. They aren't actually speaking of buying her or it being in a serious sense, yes there'd be a dowry but it's not like the parents are selling her away for that dowry. It's a hard thing to explain but the way the guy is speaking he's actually just flirting .
They aren't actually selling her, you know how in the states it's often the brides family pays for the wedding and reception? It's just that tradition evolved. The money isn't the motivating factor of her getting married it's not like selling a child away. Also you really should look up what extortion is, it's a much simpler concept then what this is here. I'm not saying that a dowry is right but it's not as bad as what people might think and especially what is shown in a documentary like this, this is obviously dramatized.
When i used that word I clearly member writing in google "define extortion." just as now it gave me back "the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats." If you do not see that one in there. I do not know how to make you see it. Also This Video does not seem be movie, where every characters action is scripted. It seems to be following the life of young girl, and her family match like documentary. FYI I am coming from Caucasus region, country of Georgia where I have experienced with different traditional, and non traditional marriages.

Oh I definitely agree:) Living through these means unfortunately leads to hard decisions and sacrifice, and that reality was what I was lamenting. These people are of course wonderful people with their own culture and beautiful history, and I think that deserves to be respected and honoured.
I do wish in the future these people find a means to live more bountifully, and are able to live with their communities and family safely and without the need to sacrifice as they have done here.

Think Balkan Sobranie. Those tobacco leaves were much smaller than American tobacco, and I suspect that they were what is called "Turkish/Oriental Prilep tobacco."
@rr rr it's still under the "Oriental" or "Turkish" category of leaf, in the US and in all pipe tobacco blends anyway
Great movie!
These girls do not wear burkha. This is ancient Turkish village dress with loose pants, also similar to all Balkans.
interesting movie! thanks
nothing will satisfy her, if she runs off to the city for education she will need to support herself and pay for the schooling with no support from family. Her poor boyfriend, if she goes with him will just get bored and move to the next excitement that peaks her interest. Its crazy how often people throw away a more natural green lifestyle based around family, to become slaves to an industry that cares nothing for them. The grass is always greener on the other side.

They are Turkish people.

@@serdarbozkurt8544
🤔 So, as "warriors", the men spend 99.9% of their time just hanging out, shooting the breeze with their neighbor "warriors" , waiting for a war to start, so they can go "protect their families"?

Also the whole so young thing creeps me out but if you think a 21 yr old "good looking" women doesn't try to demand a higher value for herself (maybe/ most likely in the west at least her father doesn't get the money/ some other thing of value and she does instead) then you might be fooling yourself.

yes, they are Turks and their ancestors moved to the Balkans during the ottoman era as a state policy, approximately beginning of the 14th century. Most of them moved back to Turkey after Turkey was founded. But there are still lots of Turkish people who live in rural areas as you can see. Sad these traditions need to die I feel so sorry for these young ladies.
Wow she is so beautiful.
I do not understand their culture, however selling children in marriages I think that is extortion.
I am not saying it is not complicated. However just watch from 19:40 and pay attention 20:50
When i used that word I clearly member writing in google "define extortion." just as now it gave me back "the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats."
If you do not see that one in there.
Mikheil Ghvinianidze not scripted, dramatized. And this isn't extortion.
