loool today i won a match with obliterator and because my opponent didn't read it, he cast a red spell to do 5 damage to the obliterator, he could just sacrifice lands and I'm pretty sure he could win anyway but for some reason(clearly he didn't read) he sacrificed all his criatures and i ended winning because of that xD

Genuinely, it might be because said opponent thought the triggers would only start AFTER both attacks went through, which would mean that Saffron would have had to block with both to not die. It still would have been difficult to win even with that assumption, but it would have meant there could have been a chance for him to get back into the game if Saffron wasn't able to find enough to create a fast clock.

I have played against a mythic orange Wizards employee. In the loading screen they write "Make sure to say hi!", so I emoted "hello". They didn't respond and went on to beat me brutally. In my 15 years of Magic, it was the only moment of Wizards being honest to me.

All the cards in the world will never replace knowledge of the rules and mechanics! My friend and I once had a board state where he had an Abyssal Persecutor, me down to -4 life, but no way to sac it. I was playing mono green with a splash of the 3 legendary Eldrazi. I attack him with lethal trample damage, but no Eldrazi, because annihilator would work against me. He of course blocked with Abyssal Persecutor in such a way that it would die, and then we had to dig into the rules to figure out who wins.
We concluded, and were eventually proven right when we asked a judge about it, that I won, because Abyssal Persecutor, and it's ability, remain on the board until the cleanup step, meaning that my friend lost before his Abyssal Persecutor could die and result in my loss!

51:00 Actually, population size would be 49 because you had already drawn 11 cards, successes is only 20 because you had already drawn or fetched 5 lands. This would make the chance of failure 6.3% rather than 5.9%. Not a big difference but still something to keep in mind, especially in longer games.

Ran into this deck on the ladder and I had no clue what they are actually trying to do with obliterators. I was playing unblockable Menace creatures with a Rope equipped - the deck, so obliterators didn't have the option to block. Never occurred to me that they could flash them in and block xD That's way cooler of a gameplan than what I experienced, because my jank was jankier. Though I was confused why they didn't attack, they had the opportunity to deal at least 10 damage that game but didn't swing in - ended up winning with 22 life so it didn't matter but it seemed free at the time.

@@DerplingKing Just BG, Fleshgorger and a small Fight Rigging package. Swamp Cyclers to collect evidence on coverup and Virtue of Persistence for early removal and end game inevitability.
Had a few times where you draw too many rope and not enough bodies, but you can just crack them as clues. Only really had issue with the exile board wipe control lists and if a faster aggro list got under it on the play. Rope giving reach is sweet with massive flyers and little bats and phoenixes all over the place.

I wonder if the deck would work a little more consistently with more ramp and less crime. Hostile Investigator doesn't really advance the plan much, and the singleton Stomper whiffing so easily on only 2 basics probably doesn't help either. I would be interested to see a version with the 2-mana ramp spell, a couple more basics, and the set of Stompers. did something very similar with fight spells. Way easier to pull off. We have instant speed 1 mana fights in the format, you can do it turn 4 with the right hand. It doesnt need to be during combat. The spell itself is usually killing a creature, making the number of creatures they need to sac even more brutal. I get you want your surprise, but honestly there are easier ways of achieving the same goal

I always have 4 Obliterator in my black decks.
Black/Green forcing your opponents creatures to fight your Obliterator and then your opponent sacrifices everything and you bring your Obliterator back to life and repeat if the game goes for another round which is rare.

There is a card unlike any other that counters this… It causes one of your opponents creatures to deal damage to another of an opponent’s creatures… I once made someone that played Obliterator sac their entire board, off their own Obliterator!

There are a few cards that do that. Cards like Solar Blaze are also pretty brutal there.

I think there's a high-pitched hum in the background of this video. It's missing from the pre-recorded Card Kingsom sponsor segment, and present the rest of the time.

You could add in some bushwhack. It's helpful to fix your lands. And later game you can force the damage on the obliterator.

you could... but as soon as you bushwhack for a swamp, people know there's obliterators in your deck. and this video is about surprises

I played Staff once. They were playing some kind of janky game eldraine tap deck, and i went infinite on turn 4. So I could say that I have 100% winrate against WOTC.

I've seen the dream flawless... but from the wrong side. Opposite my friend's Obliterator deck that uses fight spells instead of trying to flash into combat.

51:37 you shouldn't use 60 for this calculation, you draw 7 and will have less than 53 cards in your library at the time of the activation.

    • @thaddeusgenhelm8979
      @thaddeusgenhelm8979 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I mean, the calculation gets noticeable error bars at that point, because you've drawn 7 cards (or 10, or more by the time you play and trigger it), but how many of those are lands are not something you can just know definitively for the calculation. Like, it'd be more... Realistic? I guess, to say that there'll 50 cards or something in the deck and no more than 22 lands or something, but then your calculation has to like, have the +/- for if you've drawn 5 lands, or if you're at exactly 3, etc. by that point and it becomes impractical to do it for a generalized case. While you can get the exact odds for any specific case, it gets really... Wibbly when you start trying to acknowledge the changeable game state.
