This dude package is what made palladin so strong also, so without this single card i would argue palladin would see litlle play in twist. It was semi permanent savage roar with a very good body and annoying taunts.
I don't play Hearthstone often, but I believe that Warhorse Trainer sees play in Wild and it can be very strong due to how many cards are available that summon Silver Hands.
Funny thing about the last two: it actually kinda messes with the Tombs of Terror solo adventure, specifically the Khartut’s Tomb. In that chapter, there’s a tomb that can summon random big deathrattles, and with some of the infinite value ones (specifically Anub), it can either a) create non-games when a player generates a minion for free, or even worse b) create a soft lock with certain anomalies, like the one that says a hero is immune while they control a minion. If both players end up with an Anub in such a scenario, it makes it nearly impossible for the game to end… yeah, I learned about this first hand, why do you ask? It’s not like one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this game is to play that chapter over and over…
I used to play hearthstone all the time and eventually I just started doing the roguelike adventures specifically. I watched them deteriorate firsthand when the quest enemy in rise of shadows started giving multiple quests at once, making the fight nearly impossible to win.
Some of these cards were relevant in Caverns of Time era Arena. Worgen Greaser was genuinely good for like, two entire Arena rotations. Still kinda OK now.
Annoying pronunciation correction is annoying; I believe that in "addled grizzly" the "addle" is pronounced similar to "paddle" without the "p," i.e., the verb "addle" is being used to describe the grizzly and when modifying it as the receiver of the action (think "frustrate" --> "frustrated"), "addle" transforms into "addled." Irregardless, great video!

Tyrantus' taunt keyword could be seen as a nerf because before it was a minion that was hard to get rid of even if it wasn't strong, but now it could just be smacked by any minion, it's iffy since it isn't good in the first place, but taunt is a give and take
Warhorse Trainer actually did see meta play for a while; during the pure Paladin meta of Festival of Legends. Pure Paladin was the top deck, and you could run… basically any flavor of pure Paladin and you were running a top tier deck.
Remember trying to make Anub’arak work in a mill deck. It was very satiafying to see the enemy run out of cards, whilst I could replay Anub. But it was super weak, would wish I had the current version back then
Just want to immediately note that when analyzing a card like Flame Lance, going 'it's bad because you could just play Assassinate or Shadow Word: Death instead' is kinda weird to me, like the answer is obviously no, these cards are from other classes? What is much more relevant is that for one less mana you have Fireball which does a little less damage but can go face, or Polymorph which is honestly just the much better card as it negates death rattles. Plus, at the time BGH was 3 mana, so dealing with 8 health card that also has 8 attack like any giant is something you can do for 3 mana. Regardless, the reason a class card is bad is never ever because another class can do it better, especially in these early sets when classes could not do everything very well. Mage just happened to already have better spot removal, better than both assasinate and sw:d as well.
Shadow Word: Death was 3 mana at the time of The Grand Tournament, but Flame Lance was still laughably bad on release. To be fair, most cards in The Grand Tournament were absolutely garbage on release. (Ball of Spiders, Warhorse Trainer, Poisoned Blade, Knight of The Wild, Anub'arak were all from TGT, and that was just mentioned in this video.) Also, fun trivia! Journey to Un'Goro's cinematic didn’t have a song, and a reddit thread reached gained enough traction to cause Ben Brode, the lead game designer at the time to write and perform his own rap for Journey to Un'Goro.
IMO they should do the minor buffs (like 1 star point) but WAY more frequently and dynamically. Why not have every card potentially be usable in the right deck, and the meta constantly changing as cards subtly shifted in power
Yeah, as someone who only played Hearthstone back then, I still remember Webspinner as an insane card. Even though most Beast cards sucked (both in retrospect and at the time), the value was too crazy to resist.
Another Jordan vid, another like given before the video starts! If I could give some (unsolicited) feedback, the commentary on individual cards did feel a bit long in this video? There were a few points where it admittedly felt like the nail was already in, and the hammer kept hitting it, if that makes sense. Anyway, would like to see you do some sort of video on Twist, before it (nonsensically) goes away again in a week and a half! 😃
The thing about ball of spiders is: 6 mana draw 3 at the time with an upside would have been playable (though probably not in hunter tbh, yeah they didn't have a lot of value generation, but they also didn't really care unless it gave tempo too), but it was actually 6 mana draw 3 bad cards with what was usually an additional downside of having a delay on getting those cards.
Worgen greaser just gradually gaining health in the background would be funny. Wonder how far they'd have to push it for a 6 attack no text card that doesn't even have a type for synergy or anything to actually be playable.
Ball of spiders + saddle up felt unbeatable before saddle up’s nerf because it refilled your board so efficiently it was almost impossible for your opponent to board clear you
12:00 I don`t think it would do much back then, cuz i don`t remember much ways to summon beasts fro druid then. Best i can remember is 1/3 jelly spider from Karazhan
7:20 This card is played in different game modes, not mainly in normal mode. But I have seen it quiet a few times last year in some recruit builds in wild :D
when they buffed anubarak it was bugged, and _any_ nerubian would have his deathrattle, even if he wasnt in the deck. It was patched quickly but cards that made nerubian tokens suddenly got insane lol.
Some decks would, but not the top dogs that do powerful things with really low curves. A Renethal pile like priest may chuck a 4 mana 10 10 in. Likely wouldn’t do a 6 att 15 health tho unless inner fire stuff 🤣
I actually used Warhorse trainer in an odd paladin deck that I pushed to D5 in wild. It was a great card in the deck (I in fact played 2 copies in the deck)!
The point is this: they can buff all the cards they want. The Wild meta will always be dominated by aggro decks (Pirate Rogue, Even Shaman, etc.). So, you never get to turn 6-7. The only way to make the game more diverse and give meaning to the buffs is to limit aggro decks, for example by increasing the initial health. But Blizzard will never do this because the kids playing on their phones while sitting on the toilet want 4-minute games. Just enough time for a quick bathroom break.
Baall of spiders at 3 might have made hunter the best deck back in tgt. I don't think you fully grasp just how much lower the power level of the game was back then.
Even anub'arak probably would have been meta relevant in tgt if they had given it to a class that actually wanted a value card like warrior rather than rogue.
Poisoned blade has to be the one of if not the worst designed card in the game. Aside it being aweful, its also better in literally any other class since it won't disable the hero power.
Fun fact: Poisoned Blade's effect is likely a reference to how Rogue's Hero Power used to work all the way back in alpha? Beta? It equipped a 1/2 Dagger, or gave your weapon +1 Attack if you already had a weapon. I think it was considered too "unfun" (maybe not even "broken") to play against, because of... Assassin's Blade I guess. Early HS was a whole different beast.
@robertlupa8273 yep. Also in miracle rogue it wasn't too bad. Poison blade with gadgetzen auctioneer and all the weapon buffs to then blade flurry your opponents board and face for like 25 damage
One can only imagine a world where they printed good cards in TGT. Maybe Inspire would have gone evergreen if all the cards weren't terribly overcosted
It would be funny of they kept the health up joke going, and announce that they would buff worgen greaser to 7 health, but instead reduce boulderfist ogres manacost by two
"Did anyone of you even know that Anub'arak got buffed?" Yes, I learned it the hard way when it ended one of my dungeon runs. Might not be viable in constructed, but can be very vicious in solo adventures
What's fun is some of these changes happened but we're never given support because of a format that no longer exists. I miss duels. Even if the cards mentioned here were some of the most TOXIC cards in duels. Imagine a hero power where for 3 mana you get two silver hands. Imagine having a treasure that could make them all permenantly be 3/3. And then add in the fury of "haha, they all have taunt now". They couldn't give more cards to make that deck stronger in duels. So standard oddly suffers for it. Thing is, it's so simple to ban cards for duels. They did it all the time but noooooo we can't have nice things. Had to are the format even though people were playing it after the update until we all got booted from the server. I still miss the format. I still want it back.
JordanMg: you could get it in 2 or 3 turns which is basically late game at this point Modern yugioh players: 2 or 3 turns what?! Turn 1 is already late game for us
They definitely should have kept increasing Worgen's health by 1 every April Fools. Just to see how far they would need to push a 4 mana 6/3 vanilla before it's playable.
Warhorse Trainer and Ball of Spiders have been staples of Standard decks as recently as this year (Granted, Swarm Hunter has completely fallen off) so those two should have been touched on some more.

It should, but that would be a funny bug if it didnt 😂
Ball of spiders + saddle up felt unbeatable before saddle up’s nerf because it refilled your board so efficiently it was almost impossible for your opponent to board clear you
Yea that was its best moment. Somehow saddle up got nerfed and then ball of spiders got cut and saddle up didnt 😅
Your pronunciation of "Add-led" Grizzly physically pinged me for 1. But otherwise, great video.
My bad bro I'll do better in the future 😂
Man haven't touched this game over 8 years. The power creep displayed is insane.
:o
Ball of spiders should've gotten the barrel of monkeys treatment: 1 mana spell, summon 1 1/1 spider (3 left!).
Hot
12:00 I don`t think it would do much back then, cuz i don`t remember much ways to summon beasts fro druid then. Best i can remember is 1/3 jelly spider from Karazhan
maybe
7:20 This card is played in different game modes, not mainly in normal mode. But I have seen it quiet a few times last year in some recruit builds in wild :D
What is the song that plays from 25 seconds onward? It sounds so familiar
Hollow Knight OST - Hornet
"You have probably never heard of this... Poison Blade"
Ah... truly the game has changed while I was away...
😂
Malorne wasnt a buff, it was a nerf.
Its 1 niche use was its deathrattle effe for like undertakah, the 'buff' removed that 1 use
Unlucky 😔
7:00 doesn'T see play? what??
Malnorne may technically be stronger… but I hated the buff. I love playing big dumb value games that oftentimes can get to fatigue
I mean you can play jade
when they buffed anubarak it was bugged, and _any_ nerubian would have his deathrattle, even if he wasnt in the deck. It was patched quickly but cards that made nerubian tokens suddenly got insane lol.
:O thats a story for a future video 💀
@@JordanMG it only worked with beneath the grounds, my mistake. Still quite funny nonetheless haha
4:10 How many stats would a card need at 4 mana to be a vanilla worth playing? Would people play a 4 mana 10/10 or a 4 mana 8/8?
Some decks would, but not the top dogs that do powerful things with really low curves. A Renethal pile like priest may chuck a 4 mana 10 10 in. Likely wouldn’t do a 6 att 15 health tho unless inner fire stuff 🤣
Shadow word death used to be 3 mana if I remember correctly. It was also buffed like assassinate.
Indeed
As soon as we get a new expansion where they try to shovel dude paladin, Warhorse Trainer will go CRAZY
yea for sure
Warhorse Trainer did actually see relevant play in Top Decks in Wild for a time.
Odd Dude Paladin absolutely eats this up
I actually used Warhorse trainer in an odd paladin deck that I pushed to D5 in wild. It was a great card in the deck (I in fact played 2 copies in the deck)!
if you’re playing odd pally, trainer is the best card in the deck by far. Odd pally is just a bit outdated
this is indeed the take that I made, ain't no one arguin warhorse trainer aint busted 💀
"probably you have never heard about this and that card" Nah, 3 gangs set was the last I played, these are the cards I got and remember
Reno Lone Ranger being in every deck in the meta would absolutely wreck Anubarak and Malorne
They could fix poisoned blade by making it restore 1 durability whenever your hero kills a minion with it. Or just giving it 5 durability.
I think the thought process for 6 mana for three webspinners is it was kind of like 6 mana for 3 1/1 and draw 3 cards
"A natural mistake, you put Flame Leviathan in your deck 🙏"
wow anub'arak i played that card in a value rogue back in the day and it actually worked. no idea it got buffed so hard lmao
All I got from this video is we need a twist season that’s just grand tournament standard but with all the buffs that have happened since then
Interesting pronunciation of addled grizzly
😅
Baall of spiders at 3 might have made hunter the best deck back in tgt. I don't think you fully grasp just how much lower the power level of the game was back then.
Even anub'arak probably would have been meta relevant in tgt if they had given it to a class that actually wanted a value card like warrior rather than rogue.
undertaker into 3 mana ball of spiders 💀
A part of me hopes that every year, worgen greaser gets that singular hp buff, until a few years down the line it is the healthiest boi in the game.
Real
Warhorse trainer was meta an expansion or two ago though right? Wouldn't say that buff did nothing
Buff definitely mattered, the cards nuts, but odd paladin was basically gone just as he arrived 😥
I've since learned that! 😅 it going brr there
What's fun is some of these changes happened but we're never given support because of a format that no longer exists.
I tried to play Warhorse Trainer with Justicar Trueheart, it was eh. Didn't mysterious challenger come out then? and besides there was murlocadin
They should just quietly keep buffing Greaser every year until it's eventually the most efficient vanilla creature in the game like a decade from now.
would be ideal
Warhorse trainer saw a lot of play in Odd Paladin. The buff did a lot. Problem is that Odd Paladin as a whole isn't superstrong in Wild
Indeed
Anub'Arak was extremely obnoxious in Arena when Caverns was in rotation, especially when he was randomly generated
i can imagine 😱
JordanMg: you could get it in 2 or 3 turns which is basically late game at this point
Modern yugioh players: 2 or 3 turns what?! Turn 1 is already late game for us
yugioh lategame is halfway into the first player's first turn
IMO Queen Carnassa is the biggest example of this. Like they gave her rush and +5 raptors, and noone even looked her way lmao
And +1/1
anub'arak is poggers in the dalaran heist, but that's the only use I can think of for it lmao
he sounds busted in solo adventures frfr
They definitely should have kept increasing Worgen's health by 1 every April Fools. Just to see how far they would need to push a 4 mana 6/3 vanilla before it's playable.
tyrantus about to make wild druid pretty crazy with the new spells they get
😂
I've got Anub'arak a few times from Wave of Nostalgia in standard and it's always very satisfying :)
oh boy
Oh remember all these cards. I played them 🥲
Warhorse Trainer and Ball of Spiders have been staples of Standard decks as recently as this year (Granted, Swarm Hunter has completely fallen off) so those two should have been touched on some more.
