    The fact that all meaning this movie had was lost to the public and was just known as being about two gay cowboys who have sex on a mountain, some kind of indulgent female fantasy, drives home the point of the film even harder.

      +This Is A Channel I think I read somewhere a few years ago that this was based on a book, and the author was absolutely appalled that female fans WERE using it as an indulgent female fantasy instead of seeing the message. I thought the movie intentionally left Jack's death ambiguous. It was hard to tell whether Ennis was imagining Jack being beaten to death, or whether Jack really died that way. After all, Ennis' own father murdered a gay man, which traumatized Ennis and he was thus always scared. So I thought Ennis was THINKING Jack died that way.

      To me it's both: Ennis' horror and immense sorrow over losing Jack, including feelings of shame he was murdered for who he was and that it might not have happened had he (Ennis) made different choices.....choices that Jack had always longed for. And secondly, that it's an accurate account - if not an explicitly factual one - of Jack's tragic demise.
      It's one of the many scenes of layered poignancy in this cinematic masterpiece.

      It was mocked their were gay jokes at the Oscars, speculation about the actors sexual orientation, there was plenty of controversy around the project at the time, but the film is important, what it did was push positive depictions and lgbt stories into mainstream media, the ironic thing is if brokeback mountain were made today the controversy would be around two straight actors playing gay or bisexual characters, which is funny because the opportunities lgbt actors have now, is due to the success of this movie

      I think it really wasn't clear (at least to me) that Jack was actually a victim of a gay bashing. As Anne Hathaways character was telling Ennis, we see the flash of a violent assault. This could very well have only been in Ennis' mind how it actually occurred. We get no indication that Anne's character was fabricating a story...especially when there was some indication that she somehow had a hunch about Jacks double life.

      Jack’s parents also tell ennis that jack wanted to take that same husband and live with him in a cabin.
      Jack even told ennis he almost nearly got caught multiple-times with the husband.
      I believe two things
      1) jack was murdered cause he got caught with the husband and they planned it. That’s why his wife formed that story and sounded so fake
      2) jack might have got into a situation where the guys found out he was gay and murdered him.
      But I truly believed he was murdered cause he got caught with the wife’s husband from the party.

      @@CrusaderDom3 No, in fact, sex was created by nature, gender by humans. You will never see a female lion wearing a dress in nature. Sex refers to the biological differences between male and female (p3n1s-v4g1n4, br34sts-pecs, testosterone-estrogen, X and Y chromosomes). Gender refers to the social characteristics added to each sex, like men work and women clean the house, a man can't be gay, a man doesn't cry, women can't do industrial jobs...

    • @the-aud-one
      @the-aud-one 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CrusaderDom3 biological sex was created by nature. The etymology of the word gender itself comes from another languages word for "genre" (I think it was Latin, but anyway). Point is, gender is something that divides society into groups, one group being expected to do/be like this, and the other the opposite. What it means to be a man or a woman are entirely different culture to culture, person to person, and throughout time. Gender is far more complex than you seem to think

    The part about Jack's family keeping his room the way it was really made me cry. I went to my parents' house, and they'd redecorated my room, and it was like a curated reflection of who I am, or who it's socially acceptable for me to be. One decoration was the bible my mom gave me. The one in which I'd highlighted all the hypocritical laws of leviticus in. My dad once got into an argument with me, and I asked him where specifically it said that I would go to hell for being gay, so he took my bible, and couldn't himself quite remember where it was, so it took him a minute before he found leviticus, and triumphantly declared that I'd highlighted the passage myself. Then I told him that I'd highlighted all of the idiotic passages in that book, and asked him if he abstained from shellfish. That did not make him very happy. I hate looking at that damn book. It's just a reminder that something someone wrote thousands of years ago can supercede a parent's love for his child.

      God is a foolish figment of primitive people's imaginations. Dumb people that didn't know much about anything a long time ago decided to make up an imaginary friend, to make them feel less hopeless. That delusion spawned a lot of evil. That evil and delusion both are still around today unfortunately. But to me, there is no God. No great omni-present being out there letting the modern world rot while it just twiddles it's godly thumbs. The concept of God and religions are too childish and simplistic to be real and valid especially now. I abandoned the idea of God and embraced bisexuality.
      It's depressing that modern humans still cling to primitive redundant mentalities like believing in God. On a greater level, humanity could benefit and truly reach it's collective potential by abandoning the ideas of God and religion and spirituality. None of that stuff is useful or tangible. Long ago, humans should have just accepted that we know very little and still decided to do a lot of good despite not having some super being to be mentally enslaved to. But humans just love making up things to circumvent reality. Reality is there is no God, no heaven and hell, no angels guarding only some and letting others fall to ruin. There is just us and this planet that we really don't deserve to be on given how much we have squandered the privilege of life itself.
      I say all this to say, homosexuality is a perfectly normal lifestyle. There's nothing impure about being Bi or Gay or a Lesbian or Asexual or Transgender. If God creates something and decides instead of accepting your creation for who they are you hate them and want them to burn, then God is a idiot who doesn't deserve worship or obedience. He deserves to burn for being such a imperfect moron that makes people then complains about how he made them. But all & all there is no god. Just humans, that need to hurry up and figure this shit out already. Or else it will be 2095 and gay people will still be getting lynched because Allah or Yahweh or Jehovah or Jesus told the delusional evil bigots to murder.

      Now, Ennis was possibly bisexual. He dated more women than he did men and the only man he stuck with was Jack. He loved Jack more than anything, but he loved Alma before, too. Jack, on the other hand, is gay. There was a scene where he met a couple along with Lureen, named Randall and Lashawn, and a scene where Randall and him were out smoking. Randall told him he had a private cabin they could use together, and an affair is implied. Another instance is him taking it to Mexico and having sex with male prostitutes.

    In 0:43 I paused for a moment and paid attention for the postcard the first time. Look how beautiful the script is, like Jack tried his very best, using every inch of his writing skills he ever attained. But then look at the spelling mistakes, the lack of vocab, how short the message is. Jack's literacy is so limited that he struggles to express himself even on a short postcard. And for me, this perfectly reflects the tragedy of their lovestory: both men love each other, but they lack the vocab and techniques to express their feelings, reflect on their hopes and wishes and free themselves of their narrow lives. Their illiteracy is both "emotional" and in the real meaning of the word: Both left school early, never learned how to use language as a tool to express their inner lives and to make a change. At the same time they do not know how to express love because they were not loved themselves, they can't reflect on their ideas of masculinity because they were never given an alternative model. They cannot even ask for help or seek for a new direction in their lives because they do not know how.

    This was the first movie I ever cried over. And I cried, and cried, and cried, for the last half hour of the movie and the half hour after it finished. I watched it when I was 14 and had just realized I was in love with my best friend who was also a girl. I had never felt so connected to a story in my life, despite not being a cowboy, or gay in the 60s in a rural area, but it was the first gay love story I had ever seen. This movie is often made into a joke but at its core it's insanely beautiful, and I think this video did a good job of respecting that and still being hilarious.

      you still gay..? 🤔🤪 if so i respect that, but being 14 when realizing it, i’d assume you’ve never ridden a pickle 🤭🙈 now i think it would be a shame for such an experience to be lost due to your perception to sexuality.. you do realise you can be a lesbian/bisexual, but should still be comfortable and able to ask a male friend to stuff you, maybe even your girlfriend,like a turkey right? i’m sure nobody, especially a true friend would turn down that request.. if anything they’ll be more than happy to make your wish a reality, as they will also get a good nut out of it, and your friendship/bond will be much stronger. you might even make it a regular thing!. hope you take this to heart and enjoy yourself. i had a female friend who was gay but wanted just that and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life, just to have a female friend you’d never expect to sleep with asking you to pleasure her, and offering her orifices to you to achieve a euphoric state… wish she didnt have to get with a girl that isn’t comfortable with us helping each other climax. that girl is a cock block if i’ve ever known one..

    I love the juxtaposition between Ennis and Jack, Ennis being the one to always try to prove his masculinity and Jack being softer and more feminine. I also noticed Anne Hathaway’s character was depicted as more masculine than Jack and called the shots in their marriage and was even the one to pursue him, which is traditionally the role of the man. It’s interesting how we still continue to attach femininity and masculinity to gender and allow these characteristics to control our lives and keep us boxed in. Anyway, the film is so much deeper watching it as an adult versus watching it as a kid. So many hidden gems and so much to analyze!

    • @jadattia6723
      @jadattia6723 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      as shown in the scene where Jack draws limits to his Father-in-Law, he is not softer or more feminine, and he can and did took a strong stand for himself. he is more accepting of himself that was all.

    • @tiairrascott7993
      @tiairrascott7993 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@jadattia6723 no I think Jack is inherently softer and that’s why his father in law was so comfortable disrespecting him in his own home. The father in law saw the dynamics of the marriage and did not respect it, especially because Anne Hathaway’s character is the breadwinner in the film. Jack had finally reached his limit and snapped on the father in law, but I don’t think this takes away from his character’s softness. When analyzing the film in its entirety, Jack is definitely depicted in a more feminine light and I think this is crucial to understanding the dynamics of the characters and of society in the film

    This film is both profoundly beautiful and deeply tragic. The scene that resonated with me the most was when they met for the last time and end up fighting, where the camera flashes back to the early days of their relationship.As time passes and things gradually deteriorate, you begin to reflect on how good thing was at the start, even though, at the time, it didn't seem so special at all. This sentiment echoes the nature of many relationships.

    i just saw this movie and i was so heartbroken over the ending. Like, i was obviously not expecting a happy ending, i did not expect them to end up together frolicking in the garden, i expected a tragedy because it is a story about 2 gay men in the 60's released in 2005. What i did not expect was the end message of it to be that oh yeah we will just reconfirm Ennis' fear of coming out by having the love of his life meet the same end that he always feared, and ultimately have him stay exactly the way he was- closeted and afraid of his queerness, whilst saying that the person who did come out and choose to live his life the way he wanted to will meet a tragic death. What? Where is the growth?

      They actually did give him character growth; after his refusal to quit his job for Jack indirectly caused jacks murder, he quit his job to attend his daughters wedding. He at least realized that family comes before your job. But if he came out of the closet, it would have changed the message of the original short story.

    I worked in Yellowstone Park at the North Entrance and thus had contact with people from small towns. I worked there during my college summers. When I saw this movie it immediately hit me that this was not a "gay" movie or story but one about the disfunctional people I had encountered in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, et al. You have to live in a place to grasp what the culture and people are all about. In that area are generations of people trying to escape as they didn't fit in back East one way or another.

    I worked, and played, in Yellowstone Park summers during college. When I saw this movie my first thought was, "I know these people." The homosexuality is only a symtom of the culture up there. Many more exist: child beatings, wife beatenings, alcholism, school drop outs and other disfuctional and very, very sad lives. It is a place of uncomparable beauty but also a place to hide when noone will or did love you. Her story and the movie are hit on the mark.
