I thought how it was cute how Violet's facial reactions were towards Frannie. To your point very supportive, but when Frannie said "No need to shout" and Violet gave like "well what do I do then" and when Violet awkwardly had to watch her daughter fail at flirting but said nothing...I mean yea. Which I admit was not good, but when he comes back with the music altered to her specifications which is SUCH a hugely romantic gesture, I wish more people were talking about it!!
He rushed off because clearly his ass is autistic too. Literally how SO many of my friends will leave a conversation, especially in a group setting, especially if their brain just caught on a goal. "thank you, that was helpful" he says as he dashes off because his brain just went "oh, she told me A Thing She Wants, I know that means I must go Procure It to get a good grade in Courtship, a thing that is both normal to want and possible to achieve."
@@natashambulo3510 maybe we're reading the scene differently. To me, Francesca appeared slightly confused, and then she matter-of-factly switched the topic. But your interpretation is also worth considering. I have to rewatch the scene again
as someone with High-functioning autism I found both Francesca and Penelope relatable this season. Francesca because of her introverted nature, and Penelope for dealing with a friendship breakup.
I think the show is far more realistic in its treatment of Pen than the book version. Book version: loses a bunch of weight to finally get noticed by the suitor she wants. happy go lucky friendship with her bestfriend even after finding out about her mean, spiteful gossip mongering persona that directly harmed her family members. can do no wrong trope. Show version: stays the same weight. strives to enhance what she has. does not want to be a wallflower. friendship broken. broken friend dearly not enthused by her approaching her brother. Her petty gossiping and mean, snarky words are not always treated as good things. Pen has faults of her own. She's a sad person with lonely surroundings and while I can understand her, her actions do show that sometimes she's not a good person either. initially naive to how terrible her public gossiping can be. She's....a real person.
@@FairyLotusUnicorn From the book: April of 1814 found Penelope back in London for a second season, and even though she attracted the same number of suitors as the year before (zero), the season wasn't , in all honesty, quite so bad. It helped that she'd lost nearly two stone and could now call herself "pleasantly rounded" rather than a "hideous pudge". She was still nowhere near the slender ideal of womanhood that ruled the day, but at least she'd changed enough to warrant the purchase of a completely new wardrobe. - That was 1814, the book plays in the year 1824, when she is 28. So no, she did not lose weight to especially attract Colin. Colin, from the book: She was soft, curvy, and lush, just as he'd always thought a woman should be. - So Colin loves Penelope's lush figure. I don't know why everyone is writing that Pen just lost weight for Colin, and he is only attracted to her, because she is slender. That is WRONG.
And she's constantly stimming/fidgeting with her hands and her ring. Due to the disability representation this season, i guess that's exactly what they were trying to bring, but maybe they won't name it as autism since there were no studies on this at that time
It would be nice if someone involved in the production would say it in an interview though. I agree it wouldn't make sense to say it in the show itself, but to bring it up off-screen would confirm that they intended Francesca to be autistic rep and bring it to the attention of neurotypical viewers

Since I knew Francesca was going to be the diamond (or the closest example) for Season 3, I expected her to be like Daphne and Edwina so I wasn't expecting much, but Fran is possibly my favourite Bridgerton now 😅 she's absolutely brilliant and a refreshing addition to the show 💞
7:30 as someone in the spectrum (and has adhd), I RESONATED sm at this moment where her rejection sensitive dysphoria triggered bc of john's "dismissal" (that's in quotation as i also headcannon john as autistic as well; he kind of mirrored frannie's urge to go home as soon as she got john's music sheet. they're so autistic4autistic coded and it makes me SOOOO HAPPY)
They both do seem to be on the spectrum to me. Don't enjoy parties because of the ruckus or overstimulation...don't maintain eye contact...I wonder if John's special interest is also music related, as he was quick to go seek out that score for her, AND he mentioned the music first. I'm rooting so hard for them to end up together.
Same, girl, same! Are there any other autistic coded (and not explicitly stated) characters you enjoy or relate to? I'm pretty sure that Anya in Buffy the Vampire Slayer is autistic, and I adore her!
Which part of here is autistic? You re kidding right just because you want to see representation and diversity that you are going to see it everywhere😂😂😂 even if there is no part of it
As a book reader I hate it and I love just cause the book was so BLAND about them. Like yea they were a unit but why were they? The chemistry was there I suppose but it was more telling than showing. This is far more impactful and just what I wanted for them to expand her story.
@luciaellee Her story is unique as its about Widowhood and refinding love (in this case with John's Cousin, Michael). With the show's version, usually there is a common theme between the two couples and in this case, it probably would be Grief.
As someone who's Autistic, I was honestly so shocked and happy by the way this actress performed, I've never related to a character so much. The lack of eye contact, the struggling with social interaction, the special interests, and the excitement you see in her when someone talks about music. She's amazing
Eh, okay I don't watch this show but they are adorable. I love the way he sits, then turns forward away from her, giving her implicit permission to sit silently with him instead of trying to engage
No but the 'enjoy the silence together' scene gave me so much mental relief. When I say that scene was made for the introverts and neurodiverse I'm not exaggerating.
All the comments saying “I’m not autistic and I relate to her, she’s just introverted” She might not be confirmed as autistic and just because you relate doesn’t mean we’re saying you’re autistic either But nevertheless she is a character we can relate to heavily and it’s nice to be seen and recognised even if it’s not actual fact It’s nice for us to be seen in the show we love so much so let us feel represented You don’t have to dismiss everything just because you relate and don’t have autism Just let us have this, let us feel seen
Yes, thank you! Like c'mon, let us have some unofficial rep that's not Sheldon Cooper. Lowk think that some of these commenters just don't like it because they see autism as a negative thing and they don't like that they might have things in common with an autistic character 🤷
@@macyfisher5209 I really dislike it because autism is an actual "condition", not just a jacket you can wear and take off if you feel like it. You actually have to show certain traits to a degree and they have to impact your life, not be explained by something else and also have to have existed before a certain age. Diagnosing strangers is something that I always find stupid. You don't know the person, you aren't qualified to diagnose someone. Neurodivergent traits are human traits. Not everyone who is socially awkward or likes to stim is autistic, in fact most people are not. Running around and blindly labelling anyone as autistic just because they are a bit socially awkward is neither helping actual autistic people nor is it helping the person who got misdiagnosed. Also all this running around wildly diagnosing people just because you feel like it, is also perpetuating the notion that everyone MUST be diagnosed with something. Because clearly you can't have completely normal human traits like being shy, stimming, reserved, only having one time consuming hobby, enjoying silence etc. without being disabled right? If every person is neurodivergent then what's the point? Francesca is clearly not showing any autistic traits or neurodivergent traits to a degree that would be higher than your average introverted persons and she doesn't seem to be impacted by them either (which would both be signs that she is neurodivergent and not just your average shy introverted person). If she is autistic that's fine, if she isn't that's fine. But that's not for you to decide.
@@ducklingscap897 First of all, I have AuDHD, and I am very much like Francesca, so your argument that she shows no autistic traits to an "autistic" degree holds no water. But aside from that I get exactly what you mean about diagnosing strangers; I recognize that the practice can be harmful when it's done by unqualified people, aka the internet, to real people. I also agree that neurodivergent traits are human traits. But what we're doing here is harming nobody. Autistic people should be allowed to feel represented by characters and "headcanon" characters as autistic even if they're not explicitly described as such. With our current token representation being Sheldon Cooper, everyone I meet is surprised to hear I'm autistic, because in their minds being autistic means I should either be extremely antisocial and have extremely low EQ to the point of assholery, or be a stuttering childlike idiot who needs help doing basic tasks. So I don't think it's fair to criticize us for seeking out better autism representation for ourselves and finding hope in characters that we can identify with. Because that's ultimately the beauty of fiction, isn't it? Being able to relate to a princess, or a viking, or an alien from a billion galaxies away, because we're not so strictly constrained by real life. Like you said; if she's autistic that's fine, if she isn't that's fine too. The showrunners have not mentioned anything about it, and we have no official statement. So why are you so bent up about us saying she could be autistic when we have no evidence to the contrary? Sure, you can argue it's not up for us to decide, but it sure isn't up to you to decide either. The point is we can all headcanon whatever we want, because it's a fictional character in a tv show and "misdiagnosing" her is literally not even a possibility because her attributes are all made up by her creators in the first place and can change according to their whims. TLDR: She's not real, so none of the impacts you listed actually apply. We have limited reasons to call her autistic but you also have limited reasons to call her not autistic. Everyone loses, now chill.
But that’s it! An interesting story line. It’s sweet now, but she got a second chance. We can’t have all Bridgertone children live happily ever after with their first loves.
One of the many reasons I LOVE THIS SHOW, is the Francesca story this season. The idea of romantic connections being different for people who are different. I love that moment when she was sitting on the couch with Lord Kilmartin and no words were exchanged but they were communicating sooo much to each other. I loved it!!
Can I just say that the Idea of an Autistic Love Story in Bridgerton sounds beautiful? I'm not Autistic but as someone with social anxiety, it somehow makes me feel seen. We deserve love too! I'm so rooting for them!
Spoilers They allude to her being gay though I’m kind of sad because the last episode seems to imply that the reason she didn’t have a spark with him was not due to her Neurodivergence, but because she is interested in women She has a really long look at his sister when they meet There’s also an expression she makes after her first kiss during her wedding and it’s kind of fd up because I’m sure many people saw that as just an extension of her autism, but I honestly think it was to imply that she realized she wasn’t romantically interested in him
I'm very much like Francesca and I am not autistic. It could also be she is introverted, easily anxious, and just a bit more of a wallflower in the sense of not wanting to be in the limelight.
Oh you could just have another type of "neurodivergence". There are other conditions outside of the spectrum that are also classified under neurodivergence according to societal views. ADHD is one, for example. That one is very well-known :)

I loveeeee that they just sit in silence together. So romantic. My ideal relationship is one where my partner and I are so content we only need each other's presence in the room to feel loved. I am also neurodivergent so I also don't enjoy typical things 😅
I think the scene where Francesca walks into the room with her mother to greet the queen to have her debut, would fit in. She walks in first and is nervously fidgeting her hands
It’s always amazing when you can find someone who you be comfortable in silence with. My bff is a librarian by trade and we sit in silence reading weekends at a time. Our kids and spouses don’t know how to take it. ❤❤❤
Due to her background you can see her fighting with herself in several ways. When she meets someone with shared desires for simple quiet company, we can see her still try to uphold social norms to her best abilities. Like facing him on the couch expecting conversation, but then being pleasantly reassured of silence.

Yes! The entire time I was watching season 3 I kept coming back to how much I like Francesca & how relatable I found her. She is accomplished & elegant, but socially awkward in a way I completely understand. I don't know what I would do if I was expected to make small talk with strangers as often as she is. I might dive into one of my special interests & never come out.
I'm so glad others see it too, I watched francesca in the 4 episodes that are out and immediately connected with her character she is so clearly coded to be neurodivergent it warmed my heart

I was so happy when I saw this video! I have been thinking this since I saw her playing before her debut and every scene after confirming my suspicion. Thank you!
Finally someone out there who notices the small details, I thought I was alone. I have never come across a series/ movie including someone like me. They are both made for each other, like a puzzle piece.
I have never looked at her behaviour this way. Just thought she was anti-social and just wanted peace from a busy family she has lived with her whole life. But now that i have seen this it all makes sense now
As an autistic person, I could smell her ‘tism from a mile away. I loved how she connected with someone similar to her. Also she is DEFINITELY on the aroace spectrum, change my mind
Yeah, no. Francesca gets *railed* and loved every minute of it. Hers is the most romantic of all the books and she experiences a whole new kind of sexual awakening as she falls deeper and deeper in love.
@tata-yo9id always a possibility of demisexual rep, maybe they will alter it so she will only want to be deeply filthy after first forming an emotional connection with someone 😅
@tata-yo9id oh RIP 😭😭 I could have sworn they were hinting toward her not experiencing/understanding romantic/sexual feelings but I guess demisexuality is still a possibility?
Aroacespec Francesca for the win - when she told her mother she didn’t really experience those conventional butterflies and intense emotions, and didn’t WANT to, I felt so seen!
I gotta say though, John was the most romantic man so far. That was the greatest gesture in the entirety of Bridgerton so far. Nothing compares, NOTHING.
I'm a socially awkward person myself so I do find myself sometimes checking out especially when there's a room full people, that's especially when I feel like running away. I prefer a quiet room (like a library), to a crowded room sometimes so I know just how Francesca feels sometimes. I love her~^^
She reminded me a bit of the doctor's wife in "Strange Empire", who is also been coded as autistic. If you are neurodivergent yourself, you just know what's going on with her, especially with how everybody around her reacts to what she says and does.
OMG I haven't watched any of bridgerton yet but seeing this makes me want to! It's so relatable! And yet respectfully portrayed, not like the typical robot-like asd representation!
Nooo you should have included the part where he gives her the music just as she imagined it should be and she plays it and gets so so excited because FINALLY SOMEONE IN THIS WORLD GETS HER
I am not autistic but 100% introverted and I relate to her almost completely except for the fact that she focussed on one specific interest. However, if I am uncomfortable in a social situation I may indeed be a lot more comfortable discussing topics that I master very well and may appear as if I am having limited interests. I tend to have the opposite trait, I am interested in so many things that I cannot find a real passion.
I have a brother and a sister with ASD and I laughed so hard when Francesca asks her mom if she knows much about John's family, Violet says she does not as John's family is very reserved, Francesca does not wait for Violet to finish her thought before she is like "perfect." Yesterday, I was really trying and failing not to have a massive meltdown over major technology issues for the second time in a row in a very important meeting, and instead of telling me to calm down or telling me off, she just said to me as soon as the call ended, _"come look at this tornado footage from last night!"_ and watched with me until I composed myself.
As a autistic person my self, i'm so happy of existence francesca's character ! It so important for us havin representation 😊
Auditory sensitivities, special interests, social awkwardness, wall flower syndrome, indifference to social customs, not understanding other people, masking and failing at masking and everyone finding out you're "not like them", needing leave functions early due to overstimulation....yep, ladies and gentlemen, my representation.
These are also personality traits... I don't think we can necessarily come to the conclusion that this is someone who is truly neurodivergent.
@@CS-mf5unNow why are you so against someone being neurodivergent?
Sis, I possess all of these personality characteristics and I am not autistic. 💀
@@Momofukudoodoowindu good for you…but I think you’re missing the point.
@@prettynpetty8342 is the point you enjoy arm chair diagnosis and self-obsession via finding 'representation'?
I LOVED that the Earl John LISTENED to her!! I cannot stress that enough. He LISTENED to her!!
She said she felt the music was being played too fast and the man rushed off.
Actually, I'd say that Lord Kilmartin's sudden rushing off is quite autistic in itself, and it does not upset Francesca in the slightest.
@@slavchen it did upset her. She probably thought he was put off by her info dump like most ppl are.
@@natashambulo3510 It did upset her but it was quite autistic for him to leave that way. I get it to be honest.
Same here I can relate to Both Francesca and Penelope ❤
@@FairyLotusUnicorn
From the book:
April of 1814 found Penelope back in London for a second season, and even though she attracted the same number of suitors as the year before (zero), the season wasn't , in all honesty, quite so bad.
Colin, from the book:
She was soft, curvy, and lush, just as he'd always thought a woman should be.
- So Colin loves Penelope's lush figure.
I don't know why everyone is writing that Pen just lost weight for Colin, and he is only attracted to her, because she is slender.
That is WRONG.

REAL

RIGHT!! OMG not on the spectrum, but as someone with adhd, its so cool to see that
They both do seem to be on the spectrum to me. Don't enjoy parties because of the ruckus or overstimulation...don't maintain eye contact...I wonder if John's special interest is also music related, as he was quick to go seek out that score for her, AND he mentioned the music first. I'm rooting so hard for them to end up together.
Francesca is an unexpected gem. I’m really fond of her story and relationship with John. I am ready to be destroyed in 2 seasons
I'm autistic and I related so hard and it was so refreshing to see an autistic coded character so well represented

as a book reader, I hate that Shonda made Francesca and John so cute together 😢
They were always meant to be a good couple. But they will have to make an extremely good job with the next guy. It is a hard task.
I mean hopefully they will just break with book canon in this case.
@luciaellee He is her first husband, so...
Also love that she's stunning, which is rare for tv like usually the ND girl has to be weird in some way.
I absolutely love when they sit in silence on the couch. I was so giddy watching that scene. They are so cute together.
As someone who's Autistic, I was honestly so shocked and happy by the way this actress performed, I've never related to a character so much. The lack of eye contact, the struggling with social interaction, the special interests, and the excitement you see in her when someone talks about music. She's amazing
The Actress name is Hannah Dodd btw if you were interested
Eh, okay I don't watch this show but they are adorable. I love the way he sits, then turns forward away from her, giving her implicit permission to sit silently with him instead of trying to engage
Those three dudes, anybody would be creeped out by them!
No but the 'enjoy the silence together' scene gave me so much mental relief. When I say that scene was made for the introverts and neurodiverse I'm not exaggerating.
Love her! She is my favorite in the books! I adore seeing her with John!
I do too!
I know right, it makes me sad knowing how their story goes. 😭
All the comments saying “I’m not autistic and I relate to her, she’s just introverted”
She might not be confirmed as autistic and just because you relate doesn’t mean we’re saying you’re autistic either
But nevertheless she is a character we can relate to heavily and it’s nice to be seen and recognised even if it’s not actual fact
It’s nice for us to be seen in the show we love so much so let us feel represented
You don’t have to dismiss everything just because you relate and don’t have autism
Just let us have this, let us feel seen
Hyacinth is the autistic one.
Yes, thank you! Like c'mon, let us have some unofficial rep that's not Sheldon Cooper. Lowk think that some of these commenters just don't like it because they see autism as a negative thing and they don't like that they might have things in common with an autistic character 🤷
Also, high functioning neurodivergent people often go undiagnosed, so the commenters might actually be autistic themselves and have no idea.
"that. is. helpful" *runs away... - so cute. he's just as awkward as her. the Colin Penelope story line gives me the ick, but I love these two!

We can’t have all Bridgertone children live happily ever after with their first loves.
I'm living for her sweet neurospicy relationship with Lord Kilmartin, but it also makes me super sad thinking about the future tragedy to come.
What's the tragedy?
One of the many reasons I LOVE THIS SHOW, is the Francesca story this season. The idea of romantic connections being different for people who are different. I love that moment when she was sitting on the couch with Lord Kilmartin and no words were exchanged but they were communicating sooo much to each other. I loved it!!

I’m kind of sad because the last episode seems to imply that the reason she didn’t have a spark with him was not due to her Neurodivergence, but because she is interested in women
She has a really long look at his sister when they meet
There’s also an expression she makes after her first kiss during her wedding and it’s kind of fd up because I’m sure many people saw that as just an extension of her autism, but I honestly think it was to imply that she realized she wasn’t romantically interested in him

I believe Eloise has more likely an aro/ace rep.
The way she struggles with eye contact makes me feel so seen
her first 5 seconds on screen this season shouted A U T I S T I C and i love her so much for that
I thought I was the only one to notice this, I’m autistic and saw myself in her in every scene lol
As someone who is autistic this makes so much sense , all i want to talk about is my special interests and the fidgeting is so me
The saddest thing for me was the showrunner saying she wasn’t ND coded at all. I identified with Francesca greatly for being ND.
Every time i relate to a character, someone makes a video about them like this😭
it’s a sign 😭
Idk about autistic but she was so relatable. She's the most introverted bridgerton
I have a brother and a sister with ASD and I laughed so hard when Francesca asks her mom if she knows much about John's family, Violet says she does not as John's family is very reserved, Francesca does not wait for Violet to finish her thought before she is like "perfect."
Here Violet is trying to explain why knowing nothing about John's family isn't necessarily a problem and Francesca is fully like "it's not a bug it's a feature".
I love Frannie so so much! 🥹 Hannah did a fantastic job.
