So do Irish people hate Americans? I mean, now I kinda get it bc there's no way to tell who did and did not vote for f'ing Trump, but besides that it just seems that the Irish have a natural recoil from a person coming from America.
@@pleaseshutup-rd9ir The joke is that it's what Americans THINK will happen. Being some small percentage Irish is not an accomplishment when you're in a country full of Irish people.

Upon my second and third visit, they remembered me and treated me like I was actually Irish (I'm not) but I gotta say, of all the places I visited in the world, those people were the most authentic, kind, and just down to earth I've encountered.

I kid you not, when I went with a couple of friends (we're all about 25 at the time) we met an older gent named Connor on a train from Dublin to Galloway. He announced outloud on the train to welcome the Americans, then put on Shannon & Shannons Galloway girl and did a jig. This was about 6 years ago. After we got off the train he led us to the Spanish Arches. The youthful Irish lookedd mortified, but the country as a whole was exceptionally welcoming.

You are right, but it's just that "American" in America always means "Anglo-American," so if you're from any other group, you feel less than "all-American" and then you try, sadly, to identify with the group of your ethnicity. I think we need to fix this in America by referring to Anglo-Americans as that, rather than just Americans, so it becomes clear that they are one ethnic group among many, and they are no more American than the rest of us.
I can proudly say, as an American with 70% Irish heritage, when my wife and I spent two weeks in Ireland last year I didn't bring it up one time while in country.
@ I’d say your opinion is not too far fetched! The United States are a relatively new nation in relation to other ones in the world and sometimes is their culture. Sometimes it seems like they take too much pride in being long time relatives of ethnicities that show cultures that have virtually almost nothing to do with the modern American one 🫠
As an American who is a quarter Irish and went to Ireland for the first time on my Honeymoon, I find this hilarious. Every tourist shop in Ireland has last name swag. Americans can be so embarrassing sometimes.
One of my uncles tracked down a distant relative in the middle of nowhere in County Leitrim a few years ago. He knocked on the guy's door said they were cousins and blah blah and the guy just pointed at my uncle's rental car and said "You wanna give me a ride into town, cousin?" The guy didn't say a single word on the trip over and kind of mockingly waved back at my uncle as he was getting out.
