I also have ASD so I’m not sure how accurate I am, but I think the social cue was they were looking for her to gush about some aspect she wanted in her future husband and they found her response too vague.
I feel awful saying this because I am lgbt but I did not like the twist at the end. If they were going to change her story at all, it should have been that her and John remain together and they both enjoy being autistic and in love together. As an autistic woman myself, I rather enjoy the idea of sitting silent with a man, us both being invested in our hyper fixations and not bothering anyone. Benedict and Eloise should be our bi or sapphic representations. Let little Frannie relate to John alone, possibly ace because she seems completely uninterested in that.
I am not autistic but 100% introverted and I relate to her almost completely except for the fact that she focussed on one specific interest. However, if I am uncomfortable in a social situation I may indeed be a lot more comfortable discussing topics that I master very well and may appear as if I am having limited interests. I tend to have the opposite trait, I am interested in so many things that I cannot find a real passion.
She is the most relateble character, i am extroverted but i am neurodivergent so i dont like big croweds and i hate laoud music. Plus in the books she deals with infertility and tbh that just makes here even more relateble.
I like how her reaction to that first group of guy's was the exact same as her reaction to Michaela. It is possible that people mis-read her falling for Michaela at first sight Autistic people often have to have time and space to get use to the people they meet before they can even speak to them. She even says she can be lonely surrounded by people, so I think there is still hope that the writers can keep Francesca's book intact for her season. I just hope they switch show runners before her season, as I think the gender swap was just a publicity stunt for Brownell to see herself in Fran.
I've got a lot of theories about how they can preserve most of the plot of When He Was Wicked even with the gender-bend; first up is the title inheritance, which is an easy fix because Earl of Kilmartin is a Scottish title and in Scotland a lot of earldoms can be inherited by women and it's been that way for centuries (which means we would have TWO Countesses of Kilmartin at once, which could lead to shenanigans). For the infertility subplot, wouldn't it be interesting if THIS is the conflict about why Francesca and Michaela can't be together? In the book, by about halfway through, all the other characters (namely, Colin) are already pointing out that Michael is being ridiculous and should just go be with Francesca, and they kind of run out of good reasons to stay away from each other (yes, I know he feels guilty, but it does go on a bit too long imo). Now Francesca has the dilemma of whether she should stay on the marriage mart to find a husband, or be with this woman and sacrifice the ability to have children - and then they can go and adopt some down-and-outs from an orphanage, which is a common trope in Romantic literature of the time (e.g. Wuthering Heights - not that Heathcliff comes from an orphange, but adopting lower class children in need would be an interesting way for Bridgerton to go). I don't think it's a publicity stunt though, it will be nice for the show to finally give us a queer relationship that can end in an HEA just like the straight ones.
@@cj-1021 Did you read the book? a gay couple in a period show isn't always about showing inclusivity, especially when a character arc was written before the show ever came out. I liked Brimbsby's story in Queen Charlotte, it felt didn't feel like it came out of nowhere. Shonda Rymes shows has done this before. In Grey's Anatomy they get caught up in a bunch of unnecessary drama, they make a character gay all of a sudden, and then kill off some of the main cast. We know John is going to die a few years into his and Francesca's marriage, and they sprung the gender swap of it the same week of their wedding. It kind of gets old. Also, One of the best character moves I read Michael made was when a man interested in Francesca comes over, and starts to talk smack about her in front of Michael. a Man in any time, would never do that in front of a woman. Michael tells the guy off, and kicks him out of the castle, but through that the audience realizes that Michael not only loves her, but also respects her, and would live like that even if she didn't love him back. I guess for me, Michael is one of the few men in the books that has such an extensive character arc, and it can not go the same because of the gender swap. I would have also saw it better for Eloise rather than Francesca.
She reminded me a bit of the doctor's wife in "Strange Empire", who is also been coded as autistic. If you are neurodivergent yourself, you just know what's going on with her, especially with how everybody around her reacts to what she says and does.
i love how it's clear fran was so bummed when john abruptly left after what she said about the music is because she too abruptly leaves a conversation when she no longer wants to continue. makes sense she would interpret it the same when he did it!
This does not seem to me to be in anyway autistic. Given the time period and what women were and were not allowed to do, playing an instrument was one of the few great joys and skills they could partake in develop while putting in much of their time without it raising eyebrows. Things like reading were not considered a woman’s past time without drawing concern for the amount of time or pleasure she had from it. Riding horses was another, in which it was only considered polite to do so if it was side saddle and not for sport, she could also never train the animal to any great deal herself and riding was escorted for pleasure more than anything. It was also considered a country activity and not considered proper in the city. Her politely declining the gentlemen was just being polite because she probably didn’t have much of any actual other interests than music and it would be unbecoming to brag in any way about her ability of knowledge of the art. Meanwhile the not making eye contact was a common tactic when speaking to someone who was of greater rank than you, it shows deference. The fact that she confronted him wasn’t within social norms and when she couldn’t salvage the situation simply slipped back into being polite and showing the deference that was required to actually speak to him in public without embarrassing herself or her family socially. Her days as both an adult and child were probably limited to gossip, playing cards, basic women’s education, society education, and a skill like painting or music when she wasn’t out with her mother or maid spending her father/brother/husband’s money at the dress makers. She comes across only as introverted to me, and that she wishes simply for a life in which she can continue to do those introverted things without really giving into societies expectations of women, like managing households, gossip, and children. She is essentially a spinster like Eloise but has mastered society’s expectations enough to know that you can get farther in life by playing into them, much like Daphne had.
I agree, autistic seems far-fetched, but she's very much introverted. Her storyline is akin to my personality, she'd rather live a very quiet life and has deep interest in certain things that bring her joy.
I’m autistic and Francesca obviously isn’t, that she can build an emotional rapport nonverbally with some guy she just met 100% disqualifies her from being autistic,
Zeus isnt black and white darling ....came takw my hand ill show u in virgin holly and saint by contrac with u 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
I love that Francesca's appearance bears many resemblance to Jinora - my favourite character from The Legend Of Korra.
0:53 As someone who also has ASD, could someone please clarify what the social cue was that was missed?
I also have ASD so I’m not sure how accurate I am, but I think the social cue was they were looking for her to gush about some aspect she wanted in her future husband and they found her response too vague.
Oh, is this someone from series 3?
What season is this? Are they the main protagonists of that season or just a B plot?
love her <3 <3 <3

She’s not autistic she’s just a closeted gay

Perez Sarah Jackson Kenneth White Steven
How is someone being mean a social cue?
It doesn’t help that she’s sheltered

THAT’S why i relate to her so much ❤
The caracter Penlope is a people pleaser that is why she get anxious. This girl seems more self acepting
id honestly kill to have someone to just...enjoy the silence with. speaking is exhausting.
And then she meets Michaela and her brain short circuits
I felt Franny’s discomfort around Samadani so clearly. I feel ya girlie.
i love her
Its pretty good how the creators focused on autism within girls due to cases of autism being 4 to 5 times higher in boys
On the show Geek Girl, the main character has autism. And they act almost exactly the same!
3:34 The immediate confession of the rules you thought you broke. Such a relateable autistic trait.
the stimming at 4:14 so real omg
I LOOOVED this video and the subtitles, lol. Awesome. I think it missed the scene when she is introduced to Lord Kilmartin's cousin. LOL.
i made it before part 2 dropped rip
6:23 so what I’m hearing is that the ‘tism runs in the family.
Shes my spirit animal (im also called francesca)
She's so pookie ❤️
YEEESSS❤
Unrelated but her skin is so beautiful!
GUYS SHES LITERALLY STIMMING AT 4:15
Just keep the sodomy colours off everything.
Freak.
to me she just sounds like every single introvert musician I've ever met... does it mean we're all autistic?
An introvert maybe, not autistic.
She reminded me a bit of the doctor's wife in "Strange Empire", who is also been coded as autistic. If you are neurodivergent yourself, you just know what's going on with her, especially with how everybody around her reacts to what she says and does.

What's the song Francesca playing at 3:15 ??
That's Symphony No 23 I think
It's a keyboard sonata by Beethoven i dont know the opus number but people call it "appasionata"
I feel like both Francesca and John are both neurodivergent, and it works perfectly!! ❤
I like how they try to bring forth the idea that not every character is always poised and kept together
I think I should like to get screened myself. I’m starting to believe that I too am on the spectrum

I’m not gonna lie, I thought she was going to be gay.

oh my god im so glad im not the only one who thought this... op you are a genius
