    You actually can use remote play as a second controller, i've played many times like that. You do remote play as player 1 and use a regular dualshock as player too. You can do the same with xbox. You cant connect directly but you can use as second controller. Its sometimes useful. Another use is for who wants to save cellphone battery using a portal instead. Last advantage is use a pal's console, you dont nees to use it with your own console, as long as not in the same time (on single player games)

      @@shennb645 to be fair. I have used it on specific games. Sometimes I have used it 15 hours a week and sometimes a week not. I got even better wifi, so it runs flawlessly now. I truly recommend only single-player games. I just finished the Life is Strange arcadia bay collection. I've also played a third of Spider-Man 2 on it. Mostly collectibles and side stuff. I occasionally play GTA V on it. I also just started Red Dead Redemption remastered and Horizon Forbidden West. And I'm playing like half the time on the Portal. I'd give the device a solid 8/10. If you like laying in bed or sitting on the couch or in the garden with a handheld device playing your PS4 and PS5 games I think the Portal is great. But your internet has to be great for the best result. If you're wifi is mediocre the frames will drop and the thing will lose connection.

I’m getting this so I can lay back in bed and on the couch and play even more comfortably and only have to use one device. Also, I really like that it’s part of the Sony ecosystem and I don’t have to use a third party device to play my games away from the TV. After watching your video I was finally convinced to buy it. I’m severely physically disabled and suffer from severe chronic pain and chronic fatigue. Looking at a tv for a long time is really difficult and has limited my time on my ps5 since it cost so much energy. The nintendo switch has always enabled me to just keep it beside me and play in bed or wherever I felt most comfortable even if I play for just a few minutes. It will help me to be able to play even when I’m bed bound which will make it easier to bear and ignores that chronic pain. So thank you for your honest opinion because it helped me buy it.

    If Cloud gaming was included with the Portal, it would be a game changer as you said. I currently use a Backbone for Cloud gaming via Gamepass either when im home or out and about. Works for me, but I'd enjoy Cloud gaming support from Sony as well.
    At present, £200 for a Remote play only device feels steep. More so, when you realise that if you want to use wireless headphones with this, you'll need to fork out another £120 to £200. Im hoping that the existing Pulse 3D headset gets a firmware update to allow PlayStation link to work on this.

    There are two bottom lines for this unit: 1) what it is and is not, and 2) who it's for and not for. 1.) It IS an extender of your existing PS5, so you can play your games away from your primary television set up. It is NOT a standalone portable console like the Switch or Steam Deck. 2). It IS for people who want/need the convenience of number 1, but NOT for traveling and on-the-go. I am an adult gamer and bought it for a very specific reason: I have a medical condition in which I am sometimes bedridden and wished I could game a bit while in bed. I even considered purchasing a second console for this purpose. The portal has been a godsend! A surprise benefit for me was that it expanded my use of my game catalog because while I play the AAA games with graphics and action on my big screen setup with all the bells and whistles, I use the Portal primarily to play the oft neglected "cozy" games that I've picked up along the way. These are great for decompressing in bed or when you don't feel like doing the most and just want to tinker/puzzle/work through a story. In this regard it almost feels like having a second console on which I play an entirely different cadre of games. If it fits your niche, you'll love it. If you want it to be all things but portable, you won't.

    You know what would also be cool? If the portal gets successful, they should make the handles a skin color like the skin colors the controllers have. Imagine the portal with the Spider-Man 2, ragnarok, camo, etc skins on the portal. I feel like if they did that first maybe more people would buy as a starting point compared to just the white basic color.

    I definitely love the idea. I think it's a bit impractical. I see this and my first thought is most people would wanna play it on the go. Like any other portable gaming device. The problem is, you do not always have a good wifi connection on the go. I wouldn't take this to work where I might have max 30mins to an hr to play. If I already have a PS5 and a set up. I might as well play on that. I could see this as a good thing if say you have a family, don't have a set up for your console and all the TVs are being used. Aside from that, I don't see the purpose. As I said before, though, I definitely love the idea. but personally, I would rather invest those 200 bucks on other games I can play on my PS5 rather than a PS portal

    @SpawnPoiint you’ve failed to mention that the portal doesn’t currently have or support native security features. If the portal is lost/stolen, the next person who picks it up will have the freedom to connect this portal to their own PS5 and use it as they wish. So for everyone out there please make sure to at least apply a PIN to your PS5 unit until Sony comes up with a patch or support for the feature. I found this out myself because I have a PIN on my PS5 and when the portal successfully connected the PS5 required the PIN before I could use it. If you do not have a PIN, it just goes straight to XMB dashboard letting the next person have access to your unit.

    I just want to know how the actual streaming performance compares to Remote Play on other devices (iOS, Android, PC/Mac). Since its a bespoke system does it have any inherent advantages from a software POV?

    • @corey_massey
      @corey_massey ปีที่แล้ว

      You can test regular remote play now on any device. It works decent but its not streamlined. It has acceptable quality of remote play but from all the reviews i have seen so far is that it is quicker than using a third party device

    • @LegionzGG
      @LegionzGG ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no changes on The backend. You get The same results on The remote app as this device more or less. There is nothing that is integrated on The portal that boost lag vs other devices.

    • @corey_massey
      @corey_massey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LegionzGG
      This is not true. If you have used remote play on a third party device then you know that because you are connecting to the app which connects to your PS5 that maintaining a stable connection on both the app and the PS5 creates latency or dropped connection. Because the portal has the remote play app built into the OS directly, the Portal maintains a stable connection longer with less points of failure between the user and the PS5 because you don't have to access the app the Portal OS is the remote play app. Every review I have seen from trusted third party reviewers says that the connection is faster and more stable which is not what anyone who has used remote play on any consistent basis would describe using a thirs party device. Usually you get minor disconnects from either the app or the PS5 over longer gameplay sessions but no one has reported that kind of same issue using the portal. It is not intended to revolutionize the remote play feature PS created in 2012, it is intended to make it better. And by all accounts thus far it seems to be doing that.
