One of my favorite lines is when Marilla is talking with Gilbert about his father's dream to travel the world with her. She says, "I'll always be grateful to him for thinking I'd be brave enough." I don't think she wonders what could have been if she had said yes. She knows herself and that she wasn't meant for that. But she was so flattered that he could imagine something more for her than the farm and Avonlea.
yeah, and i actually get the feeling she might have even said no to him BEFORE her brother died, because as you said, despite how much she loved him she knew that wasn't a life she was suited for. and then of course her brother did die, and it only gave her more of a reason not to reconsider.
Aunt Jo is simply one of the *best* characters in the series, and the representation of the LGBTQ+ community is just starting👀 As you said, it's also so interesting to see the parallels between Marilla and Mr. Blythe, and Anne and Gilbert, that is something that we will keep seeing as their romance evolves. Also, I identify myself SO much in your interpretations and I *LOVE* to see them! can't wait to watch your reactions to the next episodes and seasons, when the stories will just keep getting more and more interesting!! 💌👒🕯🎀🌼🍂
I think this is episode was great because it showed Anne was having strong feelings about Gilbert. When she blurted out "I would make a terrible wife", it was because she was "imagining", what it would be like to be his wife.
I lost my dad when I was 19 and still living at home with him. He went to work one day and never came back as he died on his way home. Losing a parent (that you love and have a close bond with obvs) is something that changes you completely. I suddenly had to grow up very quickly (also had a chronically ill mother, so that didn't help much). I relate so much to Gilbert, and it just breaks my heart all over again. Love your reaction to this series soooo much!
I love how emotional you get with these reactions! I am the same way about this show. I also hate the "no romantic love for strong women" trope, too. It really functions to deny the complexity of women and girls. Thanks for making this video!
Hahaha I have the next two episodes already filmed and I should have the full length reactions on patreon in the next couple days and the edited video on TH-cam within the week so 2, maybe even 3 in the next week!
i am so late to this one, oop. but you really clocked aunt jo fast lmao. she's honestly such a wonderful character, and she was still great in the book and original series, but i _really_ love what they did with her in this adaptation. no spoilers obviously, but S2E7 is one of my favorites in the show, look forward to it! also yesss marilla and her tragical romance indeed... loved getting a peek into her past in this episode. it really gives so much more depth and dimension to her as a character and helps us as the audience to understand at least to some degree why she is the way she is, and how per past effects how she raises anne. and poor gilbert :'( it would have been nice if anne could have been more of a help to gilbert, but then again... are we really surprised it went the way it did 😂 yeah, whether anne is ND or not, she just really has no experience with this kind of thing, due not only to being an orphan but also just being a kid. she tried to do the whole "hey, i can relate, i kinda get what you're going through" sharing of experiences type beat, but it just, really did not go over well. poor choice of words (ironically, for a wordy person like anne haha), and just a general (understandable) lack of discernment. it's hard for a lot of people--even adults--to know what to say to someone who's grieving, and i can say from personal experience having been on the receiving end of condolences after losing my own father last year, people sometimes just.... say the _wrong_ things (but i get it, i'm awkward with giving condolences too, and the sentiment is there so i can still appreciate that). but then you get a few people who just say _exactly_ what you need to hear, or who can be comforting without coddling you, like the cuthberts. people like that are irreplaceable ♥ this was a sad yet beautiful episode. can't wait for your next reaction!
You, my friend, have earned another subscriber! It is rare I come across someone reacting to Anne with an E for the first time and your perspective on the show and the issues it brings up is just a breath of fresh air. I have been saying all the things you have for a long time. I can't wait for the next episode!!
Just popping in to tell you I am loving these reactions so much!! 😍🙏❤ Bingeing them while I crochet though, so if I'm not commenting much it's due to a lack of available fingers, not a lack of love! 😂☺️💕
I just saw your reactions and I love them. I love to hear your opinion and your thoughts. So I really hope that you're going to continue this show & make reactions to them. I personally love the 'growth' of the characters, like I didn't like aunt Jo in the beginning but one, two episodes later I totally love her! Also same about marilla's past, more please! 🥺
Episode 5 was blocked in a couple places unfortunately, but I can try to find a way to make it available to you. Episode 7 will be uploaded today as well!

I’m so glad that shot of Gilbert in the cemetery is getting the love it deserves. The silence says so much
I'm dying at you sussing out Aunt Josephine right away 🤣 You're in for a RIDE in the next episode.

"Kindred spirits" one of Anne's favorite terms

Its so funny to me now that when I first watched this I was like "Oh yeah how nice that aunt Josephine lived with her bestie, goals" 😭😭
There's not a lot of Anne with E reactions out there so when I saw this one I was so happy and you are hilarious ❤❤
Waiting a full week for AWAE reactions is torture 😭
