I just watched the series for the first time after literally never hearing anything about it. I just happen to come across it when looking for series based in the 1800s. I am an avid reader and never ran into this series in school or anywhere. I was devastated after finishing season 3 and googling "Anne with an e season 4" only to find out it was cancelled. So I decided to read the books and my god I am in love
@@zoew_if i recall correctly, netflix actually isn't to blame in this case! i believe it was the canadian production group's fault. whoever they were partnered with pulled the plug and i don't think there was much netflix could (or would be willing to) do
One thing that I’m just now realizing is the the way they show Marilla starting to fall in love with Anne with in opposition to the line, “My family wasn’t inclined toward idle chatter” being said in a more annoyed/stern tone, compared to the softer, more concerned/worried, “What do you mean” in response to Anne saying she’d never have the opportunity to be a child, showing her growing sympathy towards her. All in a span of maybe two to 3 minutes.
Man, I remember watching this when it first came out, and growing up having read all the books and adoring the miniseries, I was hysterically laughing with tears at how well she managed to capture the spirit of Anne and all her melodrama. 🤣
Why on GODS GREEN EARTH did the algorithm not bring this to me when I was watching and obsessed originally?? I’m obsessed with this show and I’m so glad you kept up with it!
I love this show!! So underrated. Honestly, one of my favorite shows of all time.😊 Please keep reacting. I have never watched your channel before, but this is what caught my attention.
I very much could relate with Anne as a child and my daughter is even more like Anne (minus the trauma), and Marillia is basically my Grandma in almost every way, and this makes me really miss her 25 years later.
As someone who's personality is identical to Anne's, I can say, a lot of the self-esteem issues come from the way the world around us responds to that type of personality. When you are constantly led to believe you are "extra" or "too much" or "annoying" or a "brat" or a "nuisance" etc. it takes a huge toll. But the reason that, as children, we aren't walking on eggshells yet is because nobody has bothered to teach us those concepts. Like, when you said she "says the quiet part out loud"...not once in my childhood did anybody teach me that being a chronic oversharer is frowned upon in society and that most people don't want to hear my life story. For just one example 😅 So it wasn't until adolescence when my peers started to bring these issues to my attention (in often the least tactful or most inadvertently hurtful ways possible) that I began to realize there were things I could do to get a different reaction from people. Nowadays, I know that it's a little like putting milk and sugar in coffee, it's a fine balance. When I edit too much, I don't feel like my authentic self. When I don't edit enough, I am right back in that childhood feeling of being an annoyance to others and not understanding how it can be wrong to want to share all of who I am with the world. And as a person with Autism, it's even more challenging, because social cues are often unfathomable to navigate. Mostly, I just try to surround myself with people I can 💯 be myself around with no editing required, and I look for safe spaces where no one is judging. Still...there are some days I just wish the world at large was a little more loving and a whole lot less critical 🤷❤
Just saw first season... & need to see someone else's reaction / thoughts... you did not disappoint... great reaction... can't wait to take the journey with you.. hopefully you complete the season.
I love Anne with an E, its one of my favourite shows and books. I really hope you will continue to react to it, I would love to see your reaction to the rest of the show
Anne with an E is very beloved by the Autistic community because of how she is not understanding social cues and how to fit in etc. this is a lot more accurate than some of the representation we get so the fact that you spotted all those things really points to why we love her and relate to her in the autistic community. Especially since there is little to no representation of how it presents in women.
You should definitely rewatch this whole show again when you're done. Once you know the characters better, a rewatch opens your perspective about them once you see the first episode again. I'm one of those who wish they'd renew even though it's highly unlikely. So I just watch it again when I can't find something to watch because I can never get bored with this show. Also, when Anne yells at Rachel, you can see Marilla holding back a laugh.
omg YES please continue this!! awae reactions are so rare and i've already watched all of them, i need moreee so glad i discovered your channel! really enjoyed you commentary, and yes, you will cry... a lot 😅 but it's so worth it i promise. this is one of my all time favorite shows! as for anne's characterization, many think of her as autistic/adhd or both. as someone who is AuDHD (both autistic and adhd) myself, i see soooo much of myself and so many neurodivergent traits in anne. it's probably why she comes across as so out there and misses social cues and is even a bit annoying at times. can't wait to see your reaction to future episodes. S2 (from ep 4 on) and all of S3 are my favorite seasons. S1 starts a bit slow, but honestly with this show it gets better and better with every episode!
Yeah, Anne has Maladaptive daydreaming in the show, IMO. As someone who probably has it. Its usually trauma based...so yeah not surprised Anne has it as a coping mechanism.
I really hope you keep up with these reactions. I just watched this show recently, and have been binging reactions to it. I'm absolutely loving your reactions so far
20:23 I personally don't find these parts of Anne imagining embarrassing situations, it's beautiful to see a child express herself this way after so many years of suffering, although I admit that sometimes she exaggerates a lot
Regarding the whole neglected/abused child coming into a loving family trope, another show that deals with that really well and is one of my absolute favorite shows, is Life Unexpected. Judging by your reaction and what you've said here, I think you might really like it. It would be amazing if you considered reacting to it some time, though it's relatively unknown and only one other channel has actually reacted to it, so I suspect you probably wouldn't want to because it wouldn't have a ton of traffic potential. But if you don't want to react to it, I at least recommend checking it out on your own.
I loved your perspective on Ann’s personality, hope you keep posting your reactions not so many people reacted to it, it’s my favorite tv show of all time every time I rewatch it i learn something new💕
I hope you read this comment. The audience don't know they are missing out on a brilliant show. I request you to continue watching the show for yourself if you don't attract enough views on TH-cam.
I love seeing neurotypicals being utterly confused about contradictory neurodivergent characters, while I just understand Anne completely because Im autistic and see myself in her Lmao,,,, everything you described is simply the 'tism
Oh I’m very neurodivergent I have severe ADHD, my sister is also autistic so I was probably more referring to the fact that it is rare to see characters with such contradictions and characteristics on tv which is why it stood out to me when I first started watching
@@SammyBates It surprises me you didnt immediately clock anne then! honestly its a blast to relate so hard to a character and for them to actually be the main character with multiple sides to their personality instead of the two dimensional manic pixie dream girl love interest or quirky weird friend

Subbing for Anne with an E. It deals with some really mature and relevant issues, and is beautifully written and brilliantly acted.
Please keep watching❤

No kidding : as a kid I read this book so many times that one day it literally fell apart in my hands.
