As for Anne and Gilbert, I have no comments, I am just a sucker for these two (love Jerry being like "Au Revoir" lol), seeing Matthew in that state is quite depressing and I know the ending for this season is not what you'd hope for, but even though, I promise you, there's SO much coming, new characters, new themes, new character developments and relationship developments. yeah, very good point about the difference in thinking between the man (matthew) and the women (marilla and jeannie) in this episode, and how it reflects how men vs women often go about things irl too. i've definitely noticed the same thing. obviously there are exceptions, and i'm not amab so i do not claim to know 100% how men think or feel, but in general i do notice that men want to be needed/useful more than almost anything. if they don't feel like they're productive and a strong support to their family or s/o (via working to support the family, being handy around the house, being a protective figure etc), they feel completely useless, they get depressed, angry, sad, generally pretty negative. i saw it happen with my own father, and my step father, and i've seen it in other men too. it only went away after they got jobs and were able to feel useful again. for men it seems to be actions/contributions that matter, whereas with women, even if their s/o or father maybe isn't the handiest around the house, isn't the main breadwinner, etc, they can still be pretty happy and satisfied with their life, because it's people and relationships that women tend to value, not how much they contribute financially or physically. and this is what we saw with matthew. he could no longer work the farm, he could not contribute physically, which means he wouldn't be contributing financially. he felt it was better to be dead and contribute financially that way, then to be alive and completely unable to. but marilla and jeannie (and we all know anne would 1000% agree) made it clear that didn't matter to them at all, it was matthew himself, his presence and love that mattered most in their lives regardless of whether he could help provide or not. a message i think more men should hear. they have value regardless of what they bring to the table in terms of money or physical ability. they have value as a person and as a loved one and that's what is most important. a really interesting aspect of the episode, and really thought provoking commentary from you as well! rachel lynde is such a good character, from a writing standpoint. i really appreciate how she was done in awae and that she's was given a bit more dimension than in previous adaptions. she's actually one of my favorites now. she is far from perfect, she says unkind/harmful things sometimes, can be a bit overbearing, and she's a gossip which is generally a negative trait, but she's not a bad person. she's also a loving wife, mother, and friend. she comes around eventually when she's in the wrong, and she's always ready to support a friend in need. she's just a very human character, good, bad, and all. tbf, a lot of the characters in this show are very realistically human with their imperfections and faults, even main characters, even the nicest characters. none of them are perfect. just another thing to love about awae. poor jerry, and yeah... what a cliffhanger to the end of the season! a lot of the things you talk about in your commentaries are actually things that will come up in some way or another at other points in the show. can't wait till we get to them, and can't wait to watch season 2 along with you!
I just wanted to say I am so happy I found this, there are basically no AWAE reactions on TH-cam. This show has been my favourite for years! I watched it as it came out with my mom. When it was airing on CTV (before it was on Netflix) they would release the episodes weekly and it was my mom and my thing. Every Thursday (I think it was) we would watch the newest episode. These are such special memories for me and I think that's one of the reasons I love the show as much as I do, besides of course that fact that everything about it is brilliant. The filming, the acting, the score, the costumes, the storyline (I am also a HUGE fan of the book), the realness, the messages. It's my comfort show. I've been loving watching your reactions and perspectives on it, please keep going!!

When I started to shed tear since the pilot episode, I started to create art study of this show because the cinematography here is on point, and it's a big thing because those studies are the products of what my art style right now, .
