@@diyhvacguy Why cant we all use metic?? There was a space prob or something that wasz supposed to slingshot Mars but since someone missed a meter/sec to ft/min( or ssomething like that) the probe skipped of atmosphere into deep space. Millions of dollars gone over a conversion that would not be needed if it was not for the US wanting to be different. C and F are not exactly metric vs imperial but short the US everywhere else uses C. Props on admitting you missed it instead of deleting the video and pretending you are perfect as other channels have done. That would be lame

@@rwood1995 I don't think it's a case of the US "wanting to be different" in present times, but rather that the cost, confusion and inconvenience would be more than any sane politician would want to suggest. There was a push for the USA to go to metric in the 1970's however. I remember my school teachers in 2nd and 3rd grade (around 1977) telling us that the country was going to the metric system and teaching us about it. Then the subject kind of faded away and I've never heard it discussed seriously since then.

I always used Yellow Jacket, Robin Aire, and for R12 & R134 I used Snap On manifold gauges. The Snap On gauges were oil filled and stupid expensive. I used a TIF charging scale, and had Robin Aire charging cylinder scales. I am old. I stopped doing HVAC when the EcoNazi Persecution Agency mandated using refrigerant recovery systems. I vented lots worse things into the air than R12 and R22.

at 6:00 you talk about temperatures, and 55F is 12 degrees Celsius, which what the cheapie scale is reading, that might be the difference in them, but this constant jumping between those terms, suction, vapor side, superheat, pressure-temperature etc - huge chaos in this industry, when in fact the whole thing is pretty simple, but a/c service schools seem to just invent and throw all sorts of made up terminology at everyone to confuse the bejesus out of them

With many others having discussed temperature calibration in Freedom units vs Chinese Communism units,my take is that the difference is durability. Yellow Jacket gauges are sold online for $150-200. Cheap gauges are about 1/3 of that. I expect a professional will be able to use a quality gauge 100s of times with little or no deterioration of valve or seal. The cheap version might fail after a handful of uses. If I'm a DIYer who got an EPA certificate to buy refrigerant in small containers for my car, home and rental property, a handful of times may be all I need.
