Just want to give you encouragement. My husband and I were married in college and graduated with 2 kids in tow. It was the best and we loved that time in our lives. We graduated college with NO debt and enough savings for a down payment on a home. Keep going and don’t let others get you down about what feels right for the two of you.❤️

@@graciescott706 I think she means if she cannot afford 2 of the product then she probably shouldn't buy 1 because that means it is too expensive, but not sure.

We got married almost three years ago at 19 and 20. We were paying $600 a month for my husband’s tuition for his last two years of school just to make sure we didn’t have to take out more loans. 😱 We were debt free within 10 months of him graduating and should be finished with our 6 month emergency fund next month. You guys are doing awesome! 💗

My husband and I got married two years ago when we had just turned 21 and 22, and I can't tell you how excited I was to hear you mention Dave Ramsey! I just wanted to reiterate how highly recommended he comes, and his teaching of spending ONLY what you have. Just as important, as they mentioned in the video as well, is having and sticking to a budget! This ensures you know exactly how much money you have at all times, and where it's all going. It takes away so much stress and worry, and you don't have to feel guilty when you do buy something that isn't a necessity, (as long as it's budgeted). For example, we have a set amount of money that we allow ourselves, (mostly me...) to spend each month on clothes. We don't always spend it, but we know we can without thinking twice. Eeeverything you spend money on should have it's own designated amount, and you save a set amount as well. You budget to spend x on groceries, and if you only spend y, you save the remainder. It's not as hard as it sounds to save money, and you can still buy nice things that you don't really need. Again, as Matt mentioned, it is so so important to save. You should know exactly what you're saving for, your target amount, and how much you'll put aside each month. Having money set aside for an emergency is crucial, and you can save for Christmas, vacations, giving, etc. It's wonderful to know you can afford to bless people and not have to worry about where the money is coming from, and being prepared for things like Christmas spending. Up until recently, we were only spending my husband's income, and saving some as well. We saved all of mine, and we never once felt like we were broke or missing out on things. We took a lot of wonderful low-budget trips together, but they never felt low-budget! And in December we bought our first house. So I just want to encourage everyone that, with some self-discipline, it can be done and it makes such a huge difference in your life. Matt should start a finance channel, people need to hear about this!

Financially wise. So many couples could benefit from this vlog and Dave Ramsey/Financial peace university. If more couples did this they wouldnt be in such a big credit mess.Glad you are working together to stay debt free and work within your budget. Its the best feeling. Congrats.

I'm new to your channel and I have fallen IN LOVE with your videos & tips! Me and my bf are getting serious about getting engaged and hopefully getting married by next year (after quarantine)! Im 19 and he's 21. This June will be our 2 year anniversary and we know what we want and we know this is the next step for us. I am going to be a junior in college this fall and he's in the workforce. We live in Virginia!
What other tips would you recommend? How to balance being a wife, a student and him having to be a strong financial provider. Thank God he has a stable job. I am working part time but not sure if that is enough? He says its okay, so that gives me peace. We have talked about moving in after getting married, finding a place, finances and etc. (We are also Christian, too 🙏🏻🎉)

    • @MattandAbby
      @MattandAbby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Thank you so much for your comment! I'm so happy for you guys! This is Matt responding by the way.
I would say the first step in this process is making sure you are both on the same page. Everyone is different, but make sure you both talk about your goals and ambitions so you can work things out. For Abby and I, we quickly decided that we wanted to prioritize our relationship over careers. We also had mentors that we met with during our pre-engagement and engagement that helped us walk through preparation for marriage. We would both highly recommend doing that.
Furthermore, when it comes to finances, everyone has a different situation. Make sure that you and your boyfriend both make a budget and talk through different financial decisions you will have to make. Most likely you will have to give up different luxuries, like eating out, for the time being (we did). But don't worry, giving up little things now for the purpose of being financially independent is totally worth it.
You sound like a super sweet couple and we wish you the best. Hope this helps!

    Love & Respect!!!!
Mostly to Abby being so upfront & true to her feelings & was openly communicating that she had to compromise & sometimes feels low about it but do not hesitate to make sensible choices with regards to spending.
@Matt :- Good going brother. Wish I had that sensibility & understanding while I was of ur age.
Speak of finance & budget more often.
    Love you both.....

I work at a credit union part-time in Northeastern Michigan in the Lower Peninsula, and I cannot stress how accurate this video is. Please please please, save save save. I have seen so many bad financial situations that I can't describe, but just keep track of expenditures. For example I only use my credit card for gas and grocery items, everything else I debit. Always pay off your credit cards. From working at a financial institution I personally recommend saving at least 20% of income rather than ten. Be sure to build an emergency and rainy day fund for unexpected emergencies!

I don’t know what phone company you use but you should
Check out visible! Verizon owns it. I pay $25 a month with unlimited everything ( a party of 4) if you look it up
You’ll understand. Great service! Happy with it so far.

You can keep your phone and phone number. You just have to have your phone unlocked

My girlfriend and I are in college and looking at getting married but want to make sure we will be stable while married. Some concerns that we have are:
Does the FAFSA only go into action each year 2020-2021, or can you change the FAFSA at any time? We want to make sure it applies to the first semester while we are married.
Also, what is the best way to save on health insurance, that seems like it will be our largest expense so how do we manage that?

Funny....when we went to Hawaii my hubby and I all the way from New Zealand we also shopped for our food from the grocery stores. It was so much gun comparing NZ to USA food prices. I even brought along my own cloth grocery bags to carry our groceries in, lol. We saved heaps of money by eating this way!
