My husband of two years goes and talks about every little thing with his mom. She's know every imperfection of mine now. To the point that she will text me when I'm on my period to try to get me to take a new herb she found to fix my scramps so I'm not so "moody." My husband and I have never even had a real fight, just had disagreements and misunderstandings like every couple, and we have always worked it out. It's very frustrating to have your mother in law try to fix you every time she sees you. Don't gossip about your spouse with your parents! It hurts their relationship with you. I hate going to my in laws now.
Kennedy Garlick Here’s the thing. Your spouse/significant other should ONLY talk with family and friends about you in a positive light. You two may have disagreements and you work through them and are fine. The family and friends don’t hear that you worked things out, and will only see you in a negative way, and will become toxic to your relationship. You need to sit your hubby down and let him know this isn’t okay for this reason. Sadly, if it continues, I think you will have major issues down the road.
I have a sister who’s is married with the same problem. That would piss me off. My grandparents always stayed out of my parents relationship. I respected them for that!
Love what Abby said about how easy it is in today’s culture to be caught up in independence and “you do you”. While it’s super important to be independent and self-sufficient , you are a team with your partner or spouse and it’s not all about you anymore.
