- Our fourth lake test was a success! After troubleshooting the ignition and fuel systems that plagued our last test session, we finally got to rip across the water at 90 mph and there's plenty of speed left in this beast once we get the air/fuel mixture tuned perfectly and stop the turbos from trying to melt the fiberglass boat hull. This video has lots of tips about troubleshooting V8 engines and it ends with us having the time of our lives in Game Over, our twin-turbo jet boat.
Note: I live at the lake and nobody was near me when we tested the jet boat. We are staying away from people just like you are, I just happen to be fortunate enough to live in a rural part of Georgia. Anyway, thanks for watching and for liking and commenting on this video. Game Over is a 2017 Peterson Placecraft fiberglass Jet Boat hull
It's powered by an aluminum 711ci Sonny Leonard Hemi with twin Precision 88mm turbochargers. It features CP pistons, Carrillo connecting rods and a Bullet camshaft. T&D shaft rockers and Manley valves and springs are in the heads. The engine and boat is wired completely using Wirecare.com and Techflex products. It runs on 118 octane Rockett Brand racing fuel. The efi is from Holley, the ignition is MSD and the jet drive is a Dominator pump built by B1 Racing. I welded the headers from a kit by Stainlessheaders.com.

Somehow it's comforting to know that i am not the only person who goes to the lake, gets on the water for 15 minutes then goes home to fix the boat... Seemingly over and over.

I grew up around the older drag style jet boats and man they are fun! The Hawaiian hull with a big block chevy that I rode in most would do about 75 mph and it really took some pump work and trying different intake and carb set ups and hull work around the intake grate and finishing the bottom of the boat with a 80 grit orbital sander type of finish to help break suction to the water supposedly. So much fun!! Your boat is absolutely amazing!!

Jet drive thrust is up higher than from a propeller, so the boat goes forward instead of thrust trying to lift the bow up high on takeoff...
@@BuzzLOLOL Makes sense. There was an art to using the trim tabs right to get up to speed in the cabin cruiser we had.
As someone who recently got an ultrasonic cleaner i can say that thing is _very_ useful. Cleaned everything from a string trimmer carb to coins and keys (it being pandemic and all) to a water filter manifold. Did learn one neat trick, too: if you need to clean something food-safe in a cleaner that was used for engine parts, put minimum water in the tub of the cleaner itself, then put your food-safe items in a plastic cup (empty sour cream containers work great) full of soapy water, then put that cup in the cleaner. Same goes for if you want to use a more potent cleaning fluid and don't want to fill the entire tub with it.
And as someone who got stranded on a boat due to carb bowl filling up with water (long story lol), with no backup power you should only go out as far as you are willing to paddle :)

Making a land vehicle go fast and making a marine vehicle go fast, are two different projects. A few hundred thousand dollars from now you'll figure that out. There are so many factors to going fast on the water. Thanks for posting
Took my 4 wheeler carb to my local honda and thats what they used to clean it up and it did a hell of a good job.
One thing you are very good at, among many, getting your projects towed! 🤣🤣 Your walk through the troublshooting process was very well done - thorough and understandable - that project is definitely coming together. I do hope you will share some of the top speeds it reaches - if they don't get you in trouble! Great project!!

11:40 Don't get another multi meter man. You just said the bad wire is 230 ohms and your device is set for 200 Ohms max. Just put it on 2k Ohms

That boat reminds me of when I was a 10 year old kid at the marina with my dad an old lad pulled up in a black 16 or 18 foot jet boat and asked if I'd like to go for a ride it had a 427 with Corvette valve covers I remember the old lad telling me to hold on and he hit that Joe dirt gas paddle when he let off he said that's properly the fastest you will ever go on water he told me we hit 89mph could only imagine what game over will do!
My uncle had a 16 ft Sunkist with a 427/435 HP Corvette engine, a tunnel ram with 2-4s and 2 stage nitrous.....in 1990. That sucker was terrifying.

Damn that motor sounds sweet. Classic ending to run out of gas sand need a tow. BTW my speed record under sail in my Ericson 27 is 7.2 kts downwind. My 38 horse Atomic 4 gas I4 cruises the boat at about 5.5 kts.

I had a light 18.5’ ski boat with a Chevy 5.7 and a decent size 4 bbl. carb. I thought I could pull a pretty good hole shot. I was mistaken.

90% says that the hickup when starting to accelerate, is on the software. Old school says low pressure pump and return line. Easy to confirm. When under load (not at the hose) pressure drops on left or right side injection rails. How much pressure are you running on the rails?

Installed a new street demon carb the night before/ about 2 hrs to track down parts.
Then the next morning...today* used the temp gun to track down 2 misfires* in about 30 seconds* lol

Just curious, if you stick the exhaust in the water would that push the boat faster? Or it stall the engine due to back pressure?
Need to put some turbo screens on them turbos if your not going to run air cleaners. Good thing your sun glasses didn't end up in one of them.
A stethoscope works pretty good for checking injectors to see if they are firing. No click no fuel.
Nice! That sounds like it's so smooth running. It looks like you need to find a bigger place to make runs. BTW do they have SeaTow on that lake since you can't call AAA like your truck for a tow? I just thought all the money you spent on that boat and you never even checked your fuel gauge wow I bet your just having too much fun.

Sorry if this is ignorant but if it was a misfire isn't the first couple steps spark plugs and injectors? Seems like you went way overboard on the advanced stuff and skipped the basic steps. Or am I missing something?
21:25 is that a braking system? or trim change? I am not familiar with high power boats I have a small sugar sand jet ,, ( looks like the the jet is redirected and the water is blown upwards a few seconds after letting off) I am loving this series it may be sparking a passion ( expensive passion)
