  • In Episode 181 of Mike Finnegan’s Garage, we embark upon our most ambitious build yet, a five-seater 21-ft long Eliminator Daytona jet boat. This one will get twin-turbo LSX power and in this video we are gonna show you two tools we bought for less than 100 bucks that made installing the engine much easier! Here are links to the tools and parts we used in this video:

Finnegan cracks me up! Let’s bring it down to 1600hp so it’s safe for my wife to drive. As a 21’ jet boat owner for most of my life and grew up in the same one we have to this day that has only 400hp, that scares the wife to even operate lol so hats off to you and your speed junkie wife. Hi. I had a 19' Wildercraft kevlar tunnel boat with a Berkely pump set way back, A+ stainless impeller, shoe, ride plate, bowl stuffer, droop snoot, and Place diverter - all set up by Tom Papp, who also removed the 'hook' from the bottom of the boat. It was really fast and ran for years without needing the impeller seal replaced.
Any time I needed to run the boat in the driveway, I shoved one garden hose in the pump inlet to lube the pump and attached another to the cooling water feed line for the engine. Never disconnected the pump because the water flow from the hose was enough to lube the pump internals. You might want to try just running water thru the pump as it was much easier than removing the 'back-to-back' u-joint with its zero-length insertion difficulties. It worked for me. Enjoy the Ride.

Appreciate you taking the extra time to explain why your doing something and then how to do it with common tools and not just all the expensive fancy tools that most of us dont have... I always thought you could just throw any old car or truck motor in a jet drive boat. With minimal mods. Glad youre showing how exactly how this is accomplished. I had a mid 70s vee drive with the barrel seat and some shag carpeting. Cant remember who manufactured the hull. But it got rid of quickly due to the lack of mufflers on the headers. And receiving a $500 noise ordinance ticket and fine. After watching your vids. I now am beginning to regret parting with it so quickly. I think im gonna look into whats available for purchase in my surrounding areas thanks for sharing. And best of luck with build.

Drilling into your stringers allows water to get into wood making them ROT quite fast, boat builders usually reomove brackets after drilling and mix a cup of fibreglass resin and with a small brush coat all drilled holes and leave for an hour then install all brackets and bolts and or screws

Awesome, I get what you're doing but you could turn the turbo's around to make your intake plumbing easier and just add a 120-180* elbow on the outlet of the hot side to blow the exhaust out to the side and towards the back. If you're going to run the intake turbos like that IMHO you should turn the intake manifold around and feed to the front of the engine. That would be my choice, reclock the cold side housings180* with the turbo's feeding air to the front and the hot side exiting straight out the back that way you could tuck the turbo's tight to the rear of the engine mounted directly to the manifolds and the intake screens would point forward. Can't wait to see it run. Just my 2c.

Cool project. If I may: seems like a good idea to sink stainless or aluminum tubes into the stringers where the rails bolt to keep the balsa from being crushed. As it is, you won't be able to really get decent toque on those bolts w/o crushing the wood.

Unbelievable. That shit is so cool. I love how you are not just into cars. The boat stuff is so much fun to watch. The best episode by far is when you scared the shit out of Cleetus I laughed so hard.
