- It's rare when a product works as advertised AND bolts-on like it's supposed to. This is not a sponsored video we are just passing along the good vibes about an excellent product from Place Diverter and Controls. In episode 170 of Mike Finnegan's Garage we swapped nozzles on the back of our Berkeley jet drive, which powers our 1976 Rogers Bonneville TR and GAINED three mph of top end speed. Our butt-dyno also says this mod also increased the boat's holeshot. We also adjusted the angle of the nozzle and gained another two mph of top end speed. The nozzle swap took less than twenty minutes to complete and required no drilling, no wiring, and no grinding. It was just that easy! Want more info? go here:

They're not done with it either. Next race is a trailer race, backing, jumping, etc. A broke in half boat is not going to get any better after the trailer race
You may want to rewatch james last video again. They split the seam between the top and bottom half of the hull, all the way around.
Just wrap a tie down strap around it.

Jackstand Jimmy broke the hull on his boat in the ocean competition. So it might be awhile before that race happens

Jackstand's boat barely runs. You'd have a pretty decent chance of beating him with a trolling motor! 😆
Not to mention they almost sunk it in the last challenge by splitting the haul
Dude it runs really good when it runs he just for some reason hasn't given what that boat needs not to mention ya it has a crack all the way around the top but it still floats and can be raced I just wouldn't take it in rough water or very deep water 😂😂😂😂

Jackstand's boat is totaled. The entire hull cap all but broke off during that last video. It could probably be fixed but that style of jet boat doesn't really work in Florida waters anyway.
The best part of any of these videos is how much fun you’re having while making them!
Not having to adhere to motortrend's rules is also great.

I have to commend you Mike, the music in your vids is always top notch. That opening was perfect.
I remember when my local lake in Kansas got that low. Floating docks not floating, boat ramps unusable... They had the spillway shut as much as possible. I remember hanging out there one night on one of the docks with some friends. 24 hours later I couldn't even get to the end of that dock. It was underwater. The whole lake level rose so much from the storms that night that even opening the spillway completely couldn't stop it. We had a massive cell stall out right on top of the lake and then slowly moved northeast (upstream obviously) followed by a few more waves of storms that did basically the same. It was mind blowing!

As a guy who grew up around jet boats and v drives my whole life in NorCal on lakes and the California delta, loving this content man!
I knew bugger all about jet boats before I started to follow your channel, im still no expert but I just love the way you guys roll, you explain everything and you are not afraid to show some of the nuts and bolts stuff. If I'm being honest that's what interests me the most I like the engineering behind all things fast its never boring. For me the enjoyment comes from watching a build from an idea through to it hitting the road or now the water. At some point I will build myself a jet boat the only thing holding me back is the water is always bloody freezing here in Scotland, thank you all so much for sharing your projects with us and also for the music I've regularly used shazam to find music used on your shows, thank you guys again for all this.

Wish we a TH-cam and Finnegan's garage in mid 80's when I had my '79 SleekCraft 18' Sportster w/466 ci Ford. I would have added even more MPH then I was able to achieve with my build. Thanks for the great videos man!

The Boat content never gets old just like the renegade Boat it'll never die still remember the Boat kill(roadkill) episode when you guys swapped the muscle truck engine in it drove the jet boat then pulled the engine and went back into the muscle truck

It's funny how non-boaters will "$600 for 5mph? That not worth it!!" But adding 1mph generally takes 10-15hp, which takes $1000-$1500.

I had a 1975 Wriedt Spoiler with the 455. It loved the nitro! That boat would crab sideways when you tried to keep the thrust neutral. Tons of fun!!

You guys should make a custom nozzle that comes up out of the water by a foot so the blast of water is above the surface of the lake (river)...to see if the boat is propelled more by having the jet pushing against the water or if the entire force created by the thrust is just the reaction of the jet pumps action...that would be a great video...thanks for the awesome content fellers

The Rodgers is a really cool old jet boat. Place Diverter are the best. The best riding and fastest Jet boat I had was a 74 JR Fiberglass (KONA) Makia bubble deck. Unfortunately they were all Olds big blocks but still very fun.

I wouldnt worry much about Jackstand Jimmy anymore after the ocean race....separating the hull from the cap of the boat and taking on 20 plus gallons of water may have finished that turd off.

If it's a race to see who can fill the boat with water fastest, Jimmy's got it in the bag!
Despite what one would think, a Venturi, (like what the various inserts are) actually DECREASES the pressure of the water while increasing its kinetic energy.
Seems counterintuitive but it is what it is.
I'm sort of surprised they don't use pressure gauges on the high side of the impeller to help tune. If the pressure is at a certain point there you don't gain anything not even with more power.
Glad somebody else thought this as well. Velocity increases and pressure decreases. Bernoulli's Principle

Efficiency factor limitations also.. I'm just a poor (financially limited) arm-chair quarterback living vicariously through others who can but would like to do it myself given the chance.. Up here in pennsyltucky in winter, back when we had jet skis, we used to put on thick wet suits and use ice burgs as race buoys.

I dunno guys, Jackstand and ZipTye just installed a water scoop on the bottom of their boat (makes it real low to the water for hydrodynamics) and detached the deck for weight reduction.
