Well personally I would recommend Dark angles as of your reaction to them in the video seemed to be the most positive as well as them being able to do what the white scares can do with the raven wing too some extent and have good legion specific units like the Blood angles. Or even if you don't go with them as your loyalist legion you could always go with them as the fallen laiter on if your still interested in them.
That’s a very good call on the Fallen! Multi-purpose army. Good reasoning, that’s a big tick in the Dark Angels box!

Every Spacewolve head should be different. You're paying the money. And you're correct in saying it's lazy.
It just seems that there was so much potential and it was totally wasted!
Personally I don't mind the wolf helmets but if used sparingly. Like one upgrade kit for the entire HH box.
My vote would be Dark Angles, they really capture to me what I think of with the grimdark 40k imagery to a fault. I get the nostalgia for Blood Angles, they weren't for me but they were a corner stone when I got started because it was when they got their 5th edition refresh and expansion. One of my first channel follows was Jawaballs.
You’re right, they’ll look ok dispersed among lots of troops. My vision would be a 100% customised army, so that’s why I’m changing.
Looks like Dark Angels are the popular choice. I think units of Knightly marines would look amazing, while still looking like marines.
I hadn’t heard of Jawaballs for a while, so I had a peek - he was uploading 13 years ago! Incredible.

Red Warden Miniatures makes very cool space wolves MKVI heads that are more space viking.

Cool. I don’t mind them in isolation, but I think squads of them would be… interesting.
I'm waiting for the Night Lords upgrade set to use on my 40k army... but these wolf head helms are giving me the fear that the NL ones will just be like a bats face 😅
Oh, and go with Dark Angels, the model range is absolute class amd they can double as a Fallen army for 40k.

I am also doing a NL army, I've tried some 3rd party printed model heads and found out the bat wings on the heads would not fit on the model because the wings hit the backpack LOL! Hope gw can do better... but after these wolf heads I am worried..
Blood Angels. I'm pretty hopeful they are going to get some good upgrade parts. Plus, the Fists helmets painted red with gold laurels will double up for the ninth legion just fine.
I think they'll get a nice upgrade sprue too. That's a pretty good idea with the Fists heads.

My votes blood angels, their second rite of war is fantastic and really great to play, plus real simple legion to learn the game system
The second rite of war gives their paladins “line” as non compulsory troops so could do literally do some converting with the box termies mixed with a squad of paladins and get two squads of 10 just mowing down the field scoring all the way
Plus their current upgrade sprue looks great on beakies and is quite tasteful

Dark angels is the one and they look to be getting a lot of 40K support at the start of 10th including their primarch in plastic 👀

Going to say Dark Angels, you seem the most interested in them, and you had concerns painting the white scars to a standard you would like. you also sounded like you would be more interested in fixing the old blood angel army than building a new one and you didn't care for the Sanguinius Model.

You speak most positively about the dark angels.... So probably them..... Though I suggest loyalist Night Lords... Loyal warriors that are still in essence evil terror troops... That's true 40k.
That’s some nice imagery for the Night Lords! The problem with HH is that starting a legion is such a big commitment you need to get it right at the start.
I’d go for the Dark Angels they have some of the nicest forgeworld models and they have a interesting story arc.
The Space Wolves have the worst forgeworld models with bolt guns with the iron sights on the underside of the barrel and wolf pelts that look like tentacles. The new paw patrol helmets are just the tip of the iceberg.
When I picked my legion I wanted them to be the counterpart of the legion my brother was going to do. He picked the Iron Hands so I had to do the emperor’s children. Got some Phoenix Guard and Lord commander Eidolon, painted up a couple of squads. But then he starts painting he’s army yellow……..imperial fist yellow 🙄

As a 40k DA owner, I’d say DA!
I’m drawn towards the Sons of Horus for 30k currently. Their paint scheme on the boxes are beautiful! May paint my box set as DA Vs SOH, I’m still deciding everything as well.
I’d love to just get a bunch of box sets just to paint them as the various legions and have a big game with friends and family!

It’d be very cool. I’ve done it with Blood Bowl (much easier to do!) just so I could get a game!
The impression I get from this, is that GW intends people to only use a smattering of special heads per squad as opposed to whacking all of them on one squad. Which doesn't really bear out if you see how they tend to do every other legions helmets upgrade sprue.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Blood Angels to get all face masks like a proto Sanguinary Guard. That seems like it would be off brand, for me. I don't know if they were a thing during the Horus Heresy era or after
But seeing Space Wolves go all wolf helmets has kind of shaken what my expectations are from GW
If you look at the new World Eaters sprue, that’s how you do an upgrade sprue! Those things look amazing and makes the legion so unique, I can’t imagine taking a WE army and not giving all of them the new heads. Then you look at the Wolves and they just seem gimmicky. I know not every sprue can be a home run, but it just disappoints me that they missed the mark with the Space Wolves of all legions.
There's some rumors from sources who have been reliable for other releases saying that Dark Angels Primarch, Lionel Johnson is coming back to 40k,id say there's gonna be some good bits going around for Dark Angels at that time aswell if that helps.

@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist Well Guilliman is gonna be your point of reference for that one, his model was quite different from the forgeworld one. They seem to have different styles FW and GW I mean
I was thinking though, Guilliman needed the armour to resurrect, whereas the Lion has just been sleeping. Maybe Cawl will have a special suit for him? I can't see them missing the opportunity for a completely different model.
Space wolves are really having no love lately. I am sorta of in a similar situation, having chosen in advance the SW, the upgrade kit seems more like a downgrade. I’ve decided to stick to SW and focus hardly on 3d printed stuff and conversions, but if I would change legion I would go for the Dark Angels. All the models are really well done and the legion rule are very interesting.
Thanks, it's looking like the Dark Angels might be my new legion. I thought about persevering with the Wolves, but I wanted an easy way to get a ton of cool heads. The Dark Angels ones are great and i'll be filling my army with them (when they're in stock!). Such a shame about the Wolves ones.
My two cents are that, for any standard army, you should not have every marine with a legion-specific helmet. They simply were not that common in lore. Important Marine characters in the books, such as Loken, wore standard helmets. However, when it comes to space wolves, I understand it. Most space Wolf infantry marines should have special heads ( and helmets) to signify their “space-wolf- ness.” The wolf helmets do not scream “space Viking” at all
I’d quite like to change all the helms! I did have a full space Viking theme in mind, so this scuppered it.

@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist From Horus Heresy art as well as his miniature, Loken wore artificer Mark IV armor, including a regular mark IV helmet with the plume thing. As far as the helmet on every marine debate goes, that is just my opinion. You can build your army however you like. You could always say your army comes from a special company with better access to forgeworld armor.

I think if you pick something other than Dark Angels, you'd regret it everytime you field your chosen army. This is purely based on your reaction, lol.

Yeah, they just won't work for any Space Marine army en masse!
Back in the day this wolf helmet came in 1 per box and MF fought for them on ebay how times change lmao, traded a lot of them over the years to friends when I switched to DA around 6th.
No worse than the wolf skulls and wolf pelts IMO in fact in some units the number of wolf thing pass 3 per model. Its like complaining that dark angels have sometimes native american stuff on them.
Finally you don't need to use the upgrade kits to make SW, the decal heraldry goes a long way for all legions.
I used to have the old Native American Deathwing Terminators, but I wasn’t aware that bits still cropped up on DA. I thought they’d been retconned totally.
I just want a nice easy way to theme the units. I guess my biggest gripe is that most other sprues get 3 variants, with 3 helmets each and it lets you shake the squads up a lot better. Plus, I think the helmets are worse looking than the old wolf heads.

I think from all your comments in the video that you've already kinda settled on the Dark Angels, and let's face it, you can't go wrong there! One of my favorite legions back when I started 40k 30 odd years ago..they're just classic!

Difficult one to be honest. I like the white scars but not a fan of a legion which seems to push you toward a certain route e.g. bikes and jet bikes.
The Dark Angels models are really cool but did you not give away your previous ones?
Blood Angels would definitely have to be red and black for me. Not a fan of the gold either.
Despite what I said about the White Scars I’d personally be drawn more to them as you could easily not put squads using contrasts and spend a bit more time then on the weathering. For table top the weathering doesn’t have to be fancy. Just some sponge and stippling in the colour of your choice
I got rid of my old 40K DA because I wanted to start fresh, then never did.
White Scars are definitely tempting. I guess I paint one up and see if I can stomach it.

I guess you could continue to wait and see what other upgrades are revealed. If you loved the aesthetic of space wolves than don’t let this put you off! I think the 40k kits have plenty of helmets you could easily modify to fit in with the 30k stuff. Plenty of runic beakies too.
I think I’m going to just do a little 40K Space Wolves project, maybe even Kill Team. That should scratch that itch!
I really wouldn't be surprised if they changed that upgrade pack. There should be more variety and I've never seen Space Wolves 30k art shown with this style.
I would go with White Scar or Dark Angels. What about Alpha Legion?
It certainly seems to be the most memed release that I can remember. It just doesn’t fit at all.

If you're going to spend the money on FW then the Dark Angels stuff looks the best.

Honestly, I'd go with something that can fit into both Horus Heresy & 40K, that way you aren't limited to just one game system. (could be 3 systems if you include Kill Team.)
So, Blood Angels or White Scars would definitely work for that.

I'm doing the same thing of remaking 8th edition style sergents on heavy marine body's using horus heresy mk 3 heads and giving them hair etc just showing you I am too designing my own head options as gw gave me the same problem with the heavy kits they look great but the lack of faces 🎭 don't 😂 problem is now those heads are becoming rare
BTW I'm even gona do a head for the new ragnar as I hate theirs it looks like a kitbash I don't even play 🐺 wolves I just felt gw ruined one of my all time favourite models

Listen. I am a dyed in the wool Blood Angels player. I am building my 30k army to be Blood Angels as well (I already owned Sanguinius). But you have tipped your hand, it is very clear you want to pick up the Dark Angels. And with good reason, their field presence is spectacular! You can always pick up the fabulous hawk boy later. Get the Dark Angels. I'm excited to see you paint them.

I find it a bit rich that people are complaining about the wolf helmets when those white scar helms are extra samey to me. Design wise, they're basically all the same with slightly different top knots and paint. The wolf helmets are just okay. I'd get maybe one or two sets for my SW and use them for squad leaders and occasional characters. I'm still on board for Space Wolves being your legion of choice, but white scars would be my next choice for you. I've never been a fan of the medieval look for the Dark Angels. It only looks good for the Black Templars because they're meant to be Knights Templar.
That said, I've always been a big fan of the more "wolf-ish" aspect of the Space Wolves and have said that it never gets enough attention over the Viking theme. They were never just Space Vikings to me, but also Werewolves and I really wish people would stop complaining when they embrace that aspect.
Thanks for the different perspective on that. Like I said, I don’t hate them, it just takes them too far from actual Space Marines for me. Plus, I do believe that, even within the wolf theme, they could have been executed so much better.
I remember when the Dark Angel influence was Native American rather than knights, I’ve even got the original Deathwing Terminators covered in feathers. I can’t even remember when it moved more in the Knight direction.

Dark Angels. But why change your mind. Just use normal helmets for Wolves. The helmets are bad. But if you want to play space wolves play space wolves. Don’t let that upgrade kit turn you off of the entire legion.
I know what you're saying, but seeing all the great legion-specific upgrades (World Eaters, Death Guard, Dark Angels) then having a generic beakie army isn't for me. It's such a big task painting a whole army, especially an HH one, that I want to be happy about all aspects of it. I hope that makes sense.
I'm also disappointed by the helmets, but in my eyes, Space Wolves look best without helmets anyway, so I don't care too much.
I think you're right. A few unhelmeted heads in the pack would have made things easier!
Hate the space wolves upgrades but I would not bail on them for just helmets. Lots of 3d prints and 3rd party bits out there. Just my 2 cents
It’s a fair enough point. I just think that, for me, building and painting an army is a huge undertaking and any obstacles will tell my brain that it’s too much effort and it’ll fall by the wayside.

I think GW has lost their mind and forgotten that the wolf part of the Vlka Fenryka was in their souls not wolf eveything decor but that said I like the bare head atleast I will probaly stick with the White Scars helmets with a bit of work they will be good or take the mk 6 helmet from the 40k kit cut the runes of some and the tail of the others mix in some normal mk 6 helmet painted with some of the designs from the old 30k book and you have some better than this
Yeah, these new heads are just a little bit too literal. The sad thing is that there’s so much scope with the Space Wolves to do something amazing and the opportunity has been totally missed.

I like the wolf heads mainly the one with the pony tail, like give me 2 of those and everything else is base heads or Viking or beak helms and I would absolutely love it but this is absolutely most lazy gw has been with models
Absolutely. I've actually gone looking for one of those wolf heads in the past, because I thought they'd be pretty cool as a one-off, but no way as the main look for the army!
@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist yeah I have done it too like form my 40k army I had one blade guard veteran with the wolf helmet and one marine in a squad that’s mostly melee and it’s good look having them but absolutely not full army worth, always need variety and it’s just sad to see space wolves like this as in my opinion they are like top3 most customization marine character in warhammer so reducing that creativity to only wolves and not Vikings is a pain
I don't see the issue printing your own considering it would be the same as buying them from gw but at least the printed heads would actually be good.
I’ve got no issue printing my own at all, it’s probably that I’d lost faith that GW would do the rest of the Space Wolves well and I don’t want to be tied into that. They’ve gone way down the wrong road with that sprue in my opinion.
@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist space wolves already have most if not all their minis already though. They have the oathsworn and slayers plus terminators and multiple characters. I don't think they will see much more so other than the badger helmets I'd say they are safe
Badger helmets are apt! I’m kinda lazy myself, so I think I just want to buy a bunch of helmets and be sorted out.
First off, the fact that there are nine of the same head? Yeah, no, skip that. There are such cool things they could have done with it and they didn't, so no. I could see that all being the same being cool for alpha legion or ultramarines, two of my favorites, but space wolves? Nah, forget that.
I would say do white scars and not dark angels, but I also like the white scars and dislike dark angels, while you seem to really like everything in the Dark Angels and their scheme a lot more. So, honestly, either wait to see the blood angels heads, or do Dark Angels.

Those Angels Tiers heads would look great on some noise marines. My vote for the legions would go to Dark Angels, let them reinforce your broken blood angel chapter with a miss-aligned jump through the warp ;)

The only helmets you need for your army come in the box with the minis. If you don’t like the alternate heads, don’t use them. If an alternate head makes you not want the legion you chose you were never invested in the legion in the first place and are just looking for clicks.
If every legion gets a nice upgrade sprue and the Space Wolves get that, it’s not great. A bit of variety was all that’s needed so it’s easy to customise the force. I was holding off building my guys fully because I knew these were coming, so now that they’re here and I don’t like them, I’ll choose another one of my favourites.
I’ll probably return to the SW further down the line or maybe do a Kill Team or something.
It seems a weird reason to totally abandon the Chapter. Just buy one of the other helmet packs.
I guess it was a kneejerk reaction to the bad heads, while seeing other legions get nice ones. It made me think that if there were upgrade sprues for Contemptors, Terminators, etc, they'd probably be bad too. Also, since HH needs so many infantry troops, I want an army with a decent sprue.
I really want to do a Space Wolves project, but i'll keep it for 40K or Kill Team now.

Iron Hands weren’t one I had considered, but maybe I should have. I always liked reading about them in the HH books, plus Ferrus is a great model!

Really dislike those wolf helmets. Lazy from GW. As for your Legion, sounds very much like you've already settled on Dark Angels! The Lion is probably the best looking Primarch model.
There's also something to be said for an army of jetbikes hurtling down the field though...

Seems like you favour the look and models of the dark angels more. It's in a colour scheme that you haven't done before for an army so I'd say that's where you might be headed.
You could then add plastic jet bikes to this army aswell. I'm not up on heresy lore, do they have the ravenwing back then?

Ravenwing were a thing. You apply a Hexagrammaton to the basic jet bike unit and I think they get an extra inch of movement.

I cant stand the PAW Patrol helmets, whoever designed those abominations should be sacked immediately.
If you want to collect the Vlka Fenryka, don't let those nonsense upgrade packs ruin your plans.
make them Space Vikings (as they should be!)
and keep them far away from the nonsensical 40k version of the wolves.
(with their Wolf-riders, Werewolves, and Space Santa on wolf sled)
GW doesn't understand, its kind of like cooking...
If you're too heavy-handed with certain spices or strong flavors, you can easily ruin the dish.
The more I look at them and the more I see of the other legion sprues, the less I can stand them. The World Eaters helms are just about perfect, but instead of doing something gritty and cool they went cartoonish instead.
I’m going to take on a 40K or Kill Team Wolves project and put my all into them to make them dark and cool.

Bit of a question, but how would you start building your army? Say, 5 units/vehicles?

I think that's half the reason I don't like the helmets, I don't see a wolf I see some kind of ambiguous Cat, Skaven, Fox, Transformer thing.

honestly i do not like these heads and pads. i would have rathered gw went down the vikings in space route rather than the wolfy mc wolf face route that doesn't match the art

I want some customisation pretty easily. 9 of the same heads in a pack compared to the others is pretty poor.
Im sorry all the upgrade sprues are rubbish there is far better stuff in the 3d printing world then anything gw is offering.
Fair enough! I like the Dark Angel helmets and the White Scar ones fit for me, but there are some really cool stls out there too, I agree.

I know what your thinking dark angels have the better lore and story but man them White scars look dam good painted up.
