    The moment you decide to buy it is the most excited you will ever be for it. I've been fortunate enough not to get in any non-delivering campaigns and have gotten a couple that were entirely worth it, but it's not even close the ratio of regret to worth it with KS and similar. Lesson learned after getting too sucked into it during the height of the pandemic, now I'm trying to recoup what I can and move on with the loss as a lesson.

      You’re probably right about that, expectation is usually much better than reality.
      It is quite addictive, but got out of hand fast. I’ve been considering selling some stuff too, so might sort that out over the weekend.

    The street fighter miniatures game was a brilliant product in the end I feel. The wait, not so much.
    Really agree with the space that all the kickstarters are taking up.
    The Jurassic Park kickstarter situation sounds bad. Eroding the faith of kickstarter as a concept.

      I love the SF game now, but when I received it the models didn’t really look like the examples in the campaign. There was no shading etc. But now I have them all displayed in my cabinet, because taken in isolation they’re so cool!
      The Jurassic Park Kickstarter is currently more than two years late, so i’ve been waiting for three years so far. Seemed like one that was too big to fail, but lesson learned!

    Preach it brother! lol I got into the hobby in 2020. I got on while Massive Darkness 2 was live. After that first back, it started backing a bunch of other games. I didn't foresee the space they take up, how after shipping the costs add up! Marvel Zombies burned me too.

      Yeah, one box would be fine, but 5 big ones at a time? It’s a lot!
      The high shipping for Marvel Zombies took the shine off a bit because it was looking good!

      Yea it was looking real good. And I get that it will be a heavy box. But to hit all the backer with a price multiple times higher than stated, ooooph, that stung a lot

      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. It almost doubled the cost of my pledge.

    I've only backed a couple small KS's. However, I seem to run into CMON stuff, dirt cheap, after they abandon any support. I notice also, a lot of times they say, none of the items will be avaible for retail. Only for them to turn around and, sell it retail!
    I bought a bunch of Wrath of Kings stuff then, eventually sold it all. I now have a bunch of Rum & Bones stuff, base game 2nd edition and a slew of expansions. I will be keeping all of that. I also stumbled upon Marvel United, really cheap! I went a little crazy, now I don't have room for it all, lol. I'll be giving the majority of those to my son and grandchildren. CMON is now doing a pre order for Iron Maiden minis(to use with Zombicide and few of their other games)! Those I gotta have =P
    Yeah, this video hit close to home for me.

      I’ve seen just about all of the recent CMON stuff at retail, so I think in future, apart from Marvel United, I’ll just try to pick it up afterwards. I don’t think I need hundreds of extra stretch goal minis anyway.
      I really think it’s a great thing to look ahead and see how much joy these cool games could give to our kids (and grandkids). I’m looking forward to many fun gaming nights, picking a new game every time.
      The Iron Maiden minis sounds cool! I’m worried that there’ll be something I just can’t say no to.

    What a shame. I always thought the concept of Kickstarter was good, but had some pitfalls.
    I’ve started collecting 28mm minis for my Inquisitor campaign, some very good alternative sculpts on Etsy. There’s a lass on there from Ukraine, her sculpts are excellent and the quality is tip top.

    • @TheHalfDoneHobbyist
      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Kickstarter has definitely changed, and not for the better. I liked the feeling of helping a project come into existence.
      Thanks for the heads up on the Inquisitor minis, I’ll definitely take a look. Cheers!

      @@TheHalfDoneHobbyist On Etsy as AlternativeMinis - delivery was around 2-3 weeks, but well worth the wait.

    From what I gather you back to a lot of IP-based games which I generally try to stay away from as I find they have subpar mechanics and balance issues. Nonetheless, you raise many valid points. The overall difficulty in tabling miniature games makes them a tougher sell for me nowadays.

    • @TheHalfDoneHobbyist
      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just figure IP-based games are more likely to deliver. Jurassic Park was supposedly backed by Universal, but it turned out that was no protection at all. If I’m honest I’m more interested in the minis, so game mechanics are secondary. I haven’t backed any in a while though. I don’t even have the time (or game group!) to play anything new!
      Thanks for taking the time to comment.

      @@TheHalfDoneHobbyist fair enough. The miniatures are a hobby in and of themselves especially if you paint. Have you ever thought about getting a 3D printer? You will have more minis than you know what to with if you get one…lol.

    • @TheHalfDoneHobbyist
      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I used to do videos on the 3D printing side of things. It was early and I got stuff wrong, so don’t judge me on it! I just use it for scatter terrain and my own creations now.

    Would be cool if you did a full run down on each.

      On each one i've backed? I've done a few reviews of Kickstarter games (TMNT, Super Fantasy Brawl) but they didn't do very well at all. I'll probably do Marvel Zombies when I get it, because it's a very cool looking game.

    Kickstarter is lacking serious legislation, I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of these instances account to fraudulent activity.

    • @TheHalfDoneHobbyist
      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Another thing I forgot to mention is companies charging VAT on a donation, which isn’t right, so they treat it like a donation but also a purchase at the same time.

    If you can not afford to lose your money, then you shouldnt be on Kickstarter to begin within. Kickstarter is not a pre order store, people need to grow up and accept that.

    • @TheHalfDoneHobbyist
      @TheHalfDoneHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can afford to lose the money, doesn’t make it any more pleasant, especially when the rewards are ones I really wanted. Just warning people to be careful really. I’ve had my fun on Kickstarter and I’m happy to bow out.
