Choose My 40K Army For 10th Edition

- I'm rubbish at choosing an army to stick with so I need your help.
I've got a ton of old armies, all badly painted, and i'm going to resurrect one of them and give them a full 2023 makeover. Please help me choose which one I should go for!

Orks!!! It’s super orky to send your mek boy to weld on some freshly looted scrap to broken models. Hobby-wise, probably the most fun faction if you enjoy kitbashing. And they are diverse in playstyle on the table.
People generally love playing against orks- it seems they are fun for all on the table.

From the sounds of it, I think the orks you might enjoy more. Just because they don't have to all have the same color scheme since they are well orks, and you already have a good selection of half done items to get fully done.
Yeah, might not be as much work as I initially thought to get the Orks into a usable state.

Hey that really meant a lot to have a mention for the Eldar. It feels so great to have that childhood army and can't wait to paint any of the units again when the are released in plastic 😂
I initially thought Custodes and then saw Howling Griffons. If you have the method fir quickly painting them the that would be cool as, but you will have to use banners.
I saw another comment suggesting Tyranids and I think that's a good idea. I'm going to find a quick scheme myself and have it as a growing third force or at least a combat patrol.
Now having said that I love your Leagues of Votann and there's also something to build a force from there relaunch. No idea how thry play 😂

Your Eldar have been a big inspiration to me to get my army done. Great looking force and I can’t wait to see what you do next.
Banners would be a must for Howling Griffons, definitely!

@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist I feel like there has been a real shift to getting armies painted and also the paints seem to be right with contrast and two thin coats. I still can't believe how good you get that white!
I think that building a Combat Patrol of an army you like and playing it a couple of times to try its gameplay is a good start. If you don't like it you can go to another one without too much investment

Personal bias, I'd say custodes. Thats what im aiming for after I try and finish my votann kill team and army box.
You dont have to go gold either. You could do white and red (solar watch) or black, (shadowkeepers)
For the leviathan box I'll be going dark angels.
But for you. Finish up your orks and votann.

Very true about the different schemes on the Custodes. Pretty soon you’ll have a full army of every faction! That’s some work rate.
Dark Angels will be cool, you’ll get that variety of painting black and bone too, good choice. Did you get The Lion?
Orks are sounding better and better to me, but a Votann combat patrol would be good too.

I dont have too much eldar or dark eldar though, other than their respective kill teams.
Other factions I've built out quite nicely but have yet to build and paint them. Need more hobby time!
Yeah I did get the lion. I also got the soul forge king box. I'll be using the deathwing command squad bits on the new termies and the shields on the bladeguard. Make them look more dark angle esq
Honestly I think any army you choose will have a relentless colour scheme unless you go for an Aspect Warrior heavy army which you can focus on a unit at a time and tie them together with some Guardian/vehicle support. Howling Griffons are on my own 'must do' list at some stage. I think with the newer contrast paints they've perhaps never been easier. You could always do a few units in the alternative black night world scheme if they get too much or you fancy a break from the main scheme.
I think Custodes are perhaps the easiest to paint, while the Orks can be more fun, especially if you go for a vehicle heavy army. Spray them up, do the metals, hit them with a wash and maybe chuck a sponge at them etc. The beauty of Orks is that they don't have to be too neat imho and you can go nuts with conversions. Harlequins can be done without cheques and you could always use a colour shift paint for the vehicles/armour plates. Not sure if this helps you or not.

That's a good idea for the Howling Griffons. I might do the Terminators in the Badab War scheme, with quartered shoulder pads. Nice one.
I'm liking the idea of the Ork vehicles too. I guess it's only as difficult as I make it! I do really fancy doing some crazy conversions. Totally out of my comfort zone, but maybe that's why I should do it.

I would do votann I now it’s a small range but they will be more units coming soon and buy then you would be use to the army and it’s less units to learn with the new rules that’s why I chose votann hope that helps all the best

I'm gonna say Votann. The newer models are beautiful, nobody else will run them, and you can pick up the kill team box so its a win win. Models will be added through time so if you get a decent force together now, you can add to it where and when. and you not gonna paint a horde army are you?
Haha, I think you know I won’t get through a horde army! Votann are looking like a good shout and something different in the army pool would be good.
You're choosing the most daunting color schemes you could pick, mad respect! I always wanted an Angels of Redemption army but never even dared to try.

My initial thought for you on seeing the video title was orks. But then I thought marines would actually suit you, as you wouldn't get bored making lists. Then you reminded me of squats and I thought those were the faction for you. But then I realised knights would be great because you really enjoyed the titan walk at warhammerfest. So basically what I'm saying is that I'm useless at helping you decide 😂
Haha, so you understand where I’m coming from! It’s a tricky decision. I think it’ll be Knights plus one other.
I'm going to say space marines, I'd say orks, BUT, they have too many little details and bits that can burn you out unless you get eh results with drybrushing or contrast paint them. Space marines or votann would be fun to paint especially if you used an airbrush. But in general I think space marines would be good (world eaters would be cool too but those weren't in the list).

Hello! I’m still alive, just got a lot on and wanted a break. I have nearly finished my Votann and somehow painted up a 1500pt Hive Fleet Kraken tyranid army for my son.
Turns out, I lose a lot at 40K.

I am pretty new at the hobby, I was really into the books, lore, and podcast kinda side of 40k for the longest time. Decided to get ork boarding patrol recently because i love those green gits the most and they seemed fun to paint. I was having a hard time between Orks and Votaan. I went orks, you go Votaan?

@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist I think people are really excited about squats 2.0 but they are on the fence cause it isn't like a full army yet. Gives you some time to get the lads ready while you wait for the others.

I'm old. I'm tired. I can't paint horde armies like I used to - and I certainly can't afford them anymore either.
So it's half the models to buy. Half the models to paint. Half the models to lug around. Etc.
And their lore is cool af as well lol
You feel super heroic when each hero does epic stuff too.

That sounds pretty cool. Fewer models to paint is definitely a big draw. I’m banned from playing Custodes in Kill Team, due to it being really difficult to balance such an elite force, I wonder if it’d end up being the same in 40K?

Is that ban self-imposed (because you can't get cheap enough models to fit)?
Or is it other players banning you because your 2 or 3 models wipe out their 6~12?
