Miyamoto initially deciding to make the main character in his dungeon crawler Mario is the most Miyamoto sounding decision I've ever heard
Haha very true
Well, technically pipes are kind of dungeons so it is not that far fetched.
I’m only 17mins in. If you had put this on dvd, I would’ve purchased it! Great work
Aw thanks so much! This means a lot!
I watch almost anything Zelda - and this is really well made and super professional. Highly recommend watching if you are a Zelda or retro / 80s fan!
Ah thanks so much!
I watch everything too lol. Thanks for the recommendation
@@lamarbabi4093 Awesome!
Where else do I find good Zelda docs
@@Retrogameplayer8000 Well I'm working hard on the Zelda 2 doc. Will be bit before I can get it out though, as there's a lot to cover
I clicked this video expecting to give it a chance for a minute or two and then move on, now I've watched the whole thing and I'm behind at work. Thanks a bunch!!!! But very interesting and well done.
Oh thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Hope your able to catch up on your work!
OH MY GOODNESS I'M SO GLAD TH-cam RECCOMMENDED THIS! This looks like an amazing video! Only a few minutes into it!
Thanks so much! I hope it remained amazing past the first few minutes 😅
Awesome video. When I first clicked on it, I figured it would just be a lot of the stuff I already heard from other videos, but it definitely wasn't. 100% worth watching for any retro game or Zelda fan.
Aw thanks so much! I'm so glad I was able to give things you hadn't heard before.
Gotta say, while going to university to study game design, this video came out at the right time. I love hearing about the full history of a single game as it reminds me that they are neither an impossible undertaking or a random miracle that happens on a Gamestop's shelves.
Well I'm glad my video came to you at the right time. That's awesome you're at University studying game design.
I'm from the 80s and this composition makes me feel at home. Great vid!
Me too! Thanks, I tried hard and give the video an 80s vibe
This is where you're future is.
Deep dives about super hits.
I'll follow for now. Keep up the good work.
I've seen a few videos like this, diving into the history of the first Zelda game. And this stands as one of the best of them that I've seen so far. Excellent work.
What a research job brother- So legit! Great job with the VO, and editing of the stock footage. Heck of an undertaking
Thanks brother! It was a heck of an undertaking 😅
This was a great video. The algorithm has been useless in suggesting videos for me for years but 2024 seems to be a turning point and I'm happy it sent me your way!
THIS NEEDS MORE ATTENTION.
Thanks! It really does 🙏
This is one of the best video game documentaries I have ever seen on TH-cam. Great job!
This is the best overview of any games "Creation of" videos I think I've seen. You got a new sub. Keep going dude!
Aw thanks, I really appreciate your kind words. I do intend to keep going 👍
Wow! I’m not even a Zelda fan, but this documentary was excellent, and a great throwback to the 80’s!
Aw thanks! 80s nostalgia Woot! Woot! 🙌
Hehehe u zeldarized him
@@Retrogameplayer8000 Indeed I did, lol!
I love finding out how Miyamoto found his inspirations.
What an epic video! This is a full fledged documentary 🤯
Now we can all be as smart as Miyamoto! 😂
This was fantastic, well done, dude!
Thanks so much!
This was amazing! I never comment on vids but man I wanna give you that sweet engagement and pray the algorithm picks you up
Thank you! I really appreciate that ❤
Such a smooth voice. I'm going to play this on repeat tonight
Thanks for the compliment☺ Play it on repeat to your heart's content 👍
My favorite parts of this video are all the 80’s pop culture throwbacks. I found the content interesting, entertaining and very informational! This video is fantastic!!! Even if you don’t know much about video games or Legend of Zelda, this is a great watch! The best documentary I’ve seen in awhile!! Well done all around! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much!
Long videos such as this I wait to listen to while I'm working and I have to say, amazing job! There wasn't a second in this video that required me to be watching in order to understand what you were talking about, can't wait to see what you'll put out next!
This was absolutely awesome! As someone in their mid 40s, your storytelling resonated with me, and my memories of playing this game at various points in my life. I hope you do more of this long form content - if you do, your channel is gonna blow up!
Aw thanks so much! As someone who is also in their 40s I'm glad it resonated with you. I am hard at work on my next big long form video 👍
I just stumbled across your channel, and with the high production value, I was SHOCKED to see that you don’t yet have ten times more followers!
You’ll definitely get there with content like this.
Well done, man! 👍🏻
Thanks so much! Yeah the algorithm is tough but I'm working hard to get my views and sub count up 👍
Excellent video! Been playing TLOZ since 1988 and didn't know all these amazing facts. you've done outstanding research and earned a subscriber!
That's awesome you've been playing since 1988.. You've been there since the beginning. I'm glad I could give a bunch of amazing facts. Thanks so much for the sub!
Great editing! This must have taken weeks to produce. Also, your sense of humor made me lol a few times.
Keep going! You're good at this!
90 minute feature length dive into one of the most discussed games in history yet it felt like a 5 minute short. This is such an informative and entertaining video I can not believe you are an up-and-coming channel. You deserve a million subs and if you keep making videos this quality, you will be there in no time.
Thank you so much! This means a lot. I'm working hard on more videos 👍
Fantastic documentary! Packed full of fascinating tidbits from the well-known to the obscure! And literally laugh-out-loud hilarious at times! I came out of this history smarter than I went in!
Haha nice! Im glad!
22:16 - the bow and arrow doesn't have only 1 use - it can also be used to pickup items (similar to the boomerang)
I found footage of the secondary use later in the video at 1:21:29
@@kizzaht Lmao! Oh wow! You're right! Oops! my bad. You're comments are very useful! Thanks
Blown away by your storytelling, pacing, editing, and knowledge! I thought I knew everything about the OG Zelda, but I learned quite a bit from you. I'll be checking out your other vids soon. Keep up the great production values!
Aw thanks so much! This means lot. I'm working hard on creating more videos like this 👍
Well done. One of the best video game documentaries I've seen here on TH-cam.
Oh wow! Thanks so much!
This was excellent; instant subscribe at Chapter 3! I wish more creators would flag up the inspiration that Tower of Druaga clearly had on the first Zelda. Great job!
Thanks yeah, I thought it important to show how much of an impact Druaga had in Japan then Zelda. Especially since Druaga didn't come out in the US until many years later after Zelda.
Fantastic work, I thoroughly enjoyed this as the first Zelda holds a special place in my heart. It's definitely one of the best deep dives of the game I've seen on here, and I've watched a lot of them on this game. Here's to your growth on TH-cam. You deserve every subscriber.
Very well researched and put together, great work!
This is amazing! Thank you for putting this together
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Top shelf work, really. Keep making videos man you're amazing.
fantastic video, really enjoyed it so much!!!
Aw thanks so much!
Absolutely excellent!!

Duuuuude! How’d you get that perfect ‘80s lighting for the game counselor segment? It *actually* looks like old footage, that was great. Oh, uh, good video too.
Stellar video! Thanks for your time and effort :)
This was an incredible video that deserves to be seen. Well done.
Thank you much! That means a lot.
I've seen alot of original zelda retrospective videos. This was a great unique take
Great work! I learned some new stuff! I actually wrote a script in college for a script writing class about the creation of the first game. It was done through flashbacks of Miyamoto as a kid, and the golden four making the game. Great work!
Amazing video! I can see all of your hard work.
Amazing masterpiece of knowledge you put here, along with your gags. Well done sir.
Nice job! Do more of these!
Great work dude, and extended team of course.
Thanks so much!
This video was so thorough and well researched. Your pacing was excellent. I enjoyed every minute. You earned a subscriber. Thank you for what I can only imagine was an immense amount of work.
Thanks so much! Yes this video was an immense undertaking. I really appreciate the sub!
I remember when it came out and I was in high school. It was such a hit, that golden cartridge, the lake that empties, the music, the freedom to explore, the map. It was a masterpiece. Great memories.
Agreed! Such great memories. The golden cartridge was enough to convince a kid like me to buy it. Luckily the game was great too 🙌
Loved the video! I wondered how I would stay invested in quite the early Zelda game being an OOT fan growing up and beyond, but I loved your storytelling for Miyamoto's life intertwining with his famous quote.
I especially loved the historical draws from older composers for the music, tickled the classical instrument lovers brains that's for sure 😁
Great work hun!
Thanks so much! I do my best to make History fun and entertaining. Im a big OoT fan myself 😊
Amazing edit, history, and personality from you my guy. Great video
Aw thanks so much! That means a lot
damn i watched a ton of Zelda stuff but you actually had some new info and i love the production. Great Vid.
Very good video! Hope to see more from you!
This was amazingly done! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic job. Beautiful video
This is a piece of work. Subbed.
Excellent video! It's so nice to see cool, fun, and imaginative content from someone who had a consciousness in the 80s. Not to diss on any of the dozens of other channels out there I'm subscribed to, but it's great to get the perspective of someone closer to my own age. I've now subbed and can't wait to check out more of your content.
Thanks so much! This means a lot. Yup I was there in the 80s when Zelda first came out.
Tiny bit long HOWEVER super well done and worth the watch. Great job!
Aw thanks so much!
Great video! Looking forward to more!
Thanks so much!
Great video, I enjoyed it a lot.
It saddens me to this day that I didn't keep my NES or any of my games, especially my favorite one; The Legend of Zelda. Great video! Lots of new information in there. Thanks.
Ah thanks so much. Yeah I didn't keep any of my NES games either. My original NES console broke so I got rid of it. Had to buy it all again for this video. It wasn't cheap 😅
I watch alot of these kinds of a videos... You sir have a earned a sub
Earned a sub. Fantastic stuff! Put together well
Aw thank you so much! 👍
This was enjoyable to listen to while I am working, really funny but informative and knowledgeable!! Zelda is awesome (:
Ah thanks so much! Glad I could improve your work day!
Love this, appreciate the content
Thanks so much!
Thank you for making this video!
You're very welcome!
Yazzz! So glad to see this video reach 50k! It’s too good not to be seen!
Yazzz! It's had a great run ❤
Pretty great retrospective, hope this gets more views
Thank you so much!
I always thought the "eastmost peninsula" clue referred to the eastern wing of the dungeon itself, as that's where the respective Triforce piece is located, along with the fact that advice offered in underworld/overworld applies to the respective world in which it was discovered.
Great job man!
Oh thank you! I try ☺
This was so fun all the way through!
Oh wow! Thanks so much!
This was really well done.
Aw thanks so much!
Subscribed Kevin. Keep em coming
Thanks so much! I'm working hard to keep em coming 👍
Yes, this is good. Keep it up!👍
Nice work i enjoyed listening while sidequesting!
Haha nice! It is a good video for that 👍
Dude, great vid! Gonna do zelda 2 I hope!
Thanks so much! Yup! That's my plan 👍
Thanks to this video, I now have what I need to write a heroes journey. It’s needed.
Great video, thanks!
Thanks so much!
I never played Zelda, it was after my time. But this is amazingly informative and entertaining. Great work!!
Aw thanks so much!
Yo you crack me up dude!!!! You’re a nerd Buffett of GOLD!!!
More than earned new SUB- Bless you.
Lol! Aw thanks so much! "Nerd Buffet of GOLD!" I love it lol 👍
It's worth noting, it's a popular sentiment that the game is also partially based on the Ridley Scott film "Legend". Although the plots are completely different, there are a lot of visual and elemental similarities
great video
25:30 When I first opened the manual as a kid and saw that clay model of the overworld, I knew it was going to be epic. I always wanted to recreate that wonder from the instrucrion book like a cofee table sized diorama
46:52 thank you for this. Interpolation is a fundamental part of most creative processes.
You're very welcome. I feel it's very important for people understand the creative process.
This video was epic!!!
Aw thanks so much!
It is insane that this team is responsible for arguably 2 of the most influential games ever. Anddd they developed them at the SAME damn time! Legends
I know right? True legends 🙌
I like how your lantern was straight out of like a home goods store
Lmao! Yeah it's my mom's lantern. I believe she got it from Lowe's 😂
26:36 Nice stranger things reference here! lol
Nice catch 😉
Yooo, where did that wooden sword prop from the intro come from? It's awesome!
Edit: Just finished the whole thing. This was incredible, great job!
Aw thanks so much! Yeah the sword I'm holding is fun toy. You can find them on eBay or Amazon: www.amazon.com/ThinkGeek-Legend-Zelda-Classic-Nintendo/dp/B079S3NK76
@@gamenerdlegacy Woah, I had no idea that this was an official release! That's so cool, thank you for letting me know, and keep up the good work!
@@ColeFam You're very welcome and thanks I'm working hard on more videos 👍
Just a correction: the tritone is an interval of three whole tones. Your first example (Jaws) was a semitone which, albeit also really dissonant, is quite smaller than a tritone. Likewise, the second example is a perfect fifth, so not dissonant at all. The feeling of dissonance ie that case comes from the timbre.
Overall awesome video, just wanted to point this out.
just found you. great vid 👍💪
Thanks so much!
This was impressive, hope for another game
Thanks so much!
I still remember as a young kid, like 5 or so, the surreal realization that Link actually had a name and it wasn't my name.
As a kid in the 80s I thought for a long time Zelda was Link's name.
1:14:46 getting some freaky vibes on the phallic looking photo lol
😂😂😂
Hahaha
Great video! Congrats. It hit my feed and I subscribed, you will now skyrocket to thousands of views! The "Al-Gore-Rhythm" takes time but just change the thumbnail to the girl who played the game counselor and youll hit 100k. Thats sad but true. Thats how the internet works unfortunately. It may be worth a try, because once people watch the video they will appreciate all the work you put in and sub. Ive watched probably every Zelda video on the internet over the last 25 years and I learned a few things on this one, including how the FDS worked.
Aw thanks so much! Yeah the "Al-Gore-Rhythm" is tough. Im so glad you were able to learn a few new things form my video. I really appreciate the sub.
One of the characters in the game Devil World looks so similar to that "shy guy" (?) in Super Mario 2 (US)!
Well done.
Yay! Thanks
Great video, but I have to question your examples in the music section, especially talking about tritones. You explained them well enough but then your examples were Jaws (a minor 2nd interval) and Halloween (a minor 3rd to a major 3rd interval in the left hand). I get that those were examples of tension, but just wanted to throw out that very small gripe on what was otherwise great content!
This was great!
Zelda II please.
Thanks so much! I am hard at work on a Zelda 2 History 👍
@@gamenerdlegacyI’m very much looking forward to it!
This was amazing. Do Metroid next! 😀
Thanks so much! Metroid would be a good one 👍
