  • After owning my Toyota Supra for the last few months, I thought I would share things I think new buyers should be aware about before buying the car. In many ways, none of these are deal breakers. Just small things for you to think through.

      Car & Driver magazine testers measured interior road noise level at highway speeds (75 mph) at 68 decibels. By comparison, they measured the Nissan Nismo Z at 76 decibels. Much depends upon the road surface texture and composition. Tar surfaces tend to reduce the noise level.

    Thanks for the video, Austin!
    Since you've looked at a lot of cars, any recommendations for a fun daily driver? Been thinking about picking up a new daily next year, so that I can leave the Ridgeline home for the wife (since she works from home). As it is now, she's left without a car whenever I'm at work. She does have the Saturn Sky, but like my Camaro, that's just a weekend, nice weather car, and in fact it is put away for the winter right now, along with the Camaro. Since I'm planning on keeping the Camaro, I don't need an outright sports car, but still would like something fun to drive. Right now I'm thinking about a Mazda 3 hatch (for more towards the luxury side), or a WRX (if I go the more sporty route). Looking to keep it around $30-$35k, and whatever I choose would have a manual transmission. Do you have any other suggestions based on what you've looked at during your car searches?

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brother! So here are my thoughts. I’m very impressed by the new WRX. Looks have grown in me. Mazda 3 turbo is an auto and at the top end of your budget but a 3 in a manual could be fun. GTIs have a ton of cool technology for the price. People complain about the lack of buttons and I found no issues with them. I’m very impressed by the GR86 and BRZ but would be tough to get a hold of. A Civic si or Integra with a manual would be fun. I’m considering a WRX because of how much fun I had driving one from a pure drivers perspective.
      My vote would be a WRX or GTI

    • @saviordream
      @saviordream ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Gonin60 Thanks Austin! Yeah, I didn't care for the new WRX's looks at all when it first debuted, but the more I see of them out in the wild, the looks have kind of grown on me as well. Been watching a lot of videos on them, and almost everything I see says how good this new model is to drive. I previously had a 2019 STI, and I always said I would have kept it if I was looking for a daily driver at the time, and this new WRX is supposed to compare pretty favorably to the older STIs, so this is one of my top considerations. Plus, they seem relatively easy to get ahold of so there shouldn't be any issues with either doing a factory order or finding one on a dealer lot somewhere. Will definitely have to go take a closer look at one and at least sit in it to see if I really like it (don't know how feasible it would be to take a test drive now as we're in the middle of winter and I believe these come with summer-only tires).

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@saviordream many of them can be had at MSRP. In person the car I think looks good now. I’m not sold on their infotainment and have heard of issues. The biggest thing for me with this car was the tuning and the bigger displacement. I had more fun driving this stock than I did an a stock 2021 STI. I would for sure drive one if you can.

    • @thullraven1
      @thullraven1 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't go wrong with a sporty Civic like an Si, especially if you get in in a Manual. It's good on gas, fun to drive, and has a history of being reliable. It also has decent space and is easy to see out of. Also, because it's FWD you'll be able to drive it in not so great weather. The WRX takes that up a notch as it's AWD but isn't as reliable as a Honda IMO and for some reason they seem to be cop magnets.

    • @saviordream
      @saviordream ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thullraven1 I like the Civic SI, but living in northwestern Pennsylvania I would need features like heated seats, which we don't get on the U.S. model. Also, they seem to be near impossible to find without markup. I would consider the Honda Civic Hatch Touring model, which also is available with a manual and has all the features I'd want such as the heated seats and steering wheel, wireless Android Auto, etc. However, my front runner (if I'm going for something that's not so performance oriented) is the Mazda 3 hatch with a manual. Fantastic interior with most of the creature comforts and amenities I'd want in a daily driver; it's got a good, naturally aspirated engine, and it also looks the best out of all of these, in my opinion. Currently the two front runners are the Mazda 3 or the WRX, and I keep waffling between the two depending on my mood!

      As a producer and mixer for 12 years, and as an owner of a 2021 Supra, I can say the JBL is for sure lacking.
      When you purchase an upgraded sound system, you expect it to perform like one. While the sound works well flat, it does not perform well for entertainment and louder volumes. The subs almost sound blown out on the Supra.
      I’ve only tried it twice loud and it’s not hitting right.
      However, there’s an easy aftermarket fix for it, which I’m planning to try out.

      @Pandize Try not to do what I've done over the years - listened to very loud music, often - in my cars and at concerts. The bad news is that I'll always have ringing in my ears. The good news is that my Supra's JBL sound system sounds great at medium volume. The bass is plenty strong, and the highs are crisp.

      You simply press a button after the engine is warmed up. It takes less than minute for the car to measure the oil level and display it on the screen.

      There's an even crazier thing. If your car's electrical system goes dead, the only way to get the car out of park and into neutral is to get under it and crank something on the transmission. Yep. I love this car now, I hope it doesn't disappoint me in years ahead.

    Hey Austin, love your content on the 2022 Supra. I just got a 2022 Supra and loving it so far. Was there a specific reason you went with an automatic instead of waiting for a 2023 manual? I daily drive mine in traffic so I went with an automatic but I feel a manual would have been fine especially in terms with holding its value. What are your thoughts?

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! It was mainly for price and availability. I just wanted a base model. For resale value and popularity getting a manual for the right price is probably the better option. There was such limited supply for the right price that I had to get what I could at the time.

      @@kobedabestagreed, the Supra never gets old, it is hard not to look back when walking away. And yeah you’ll see about 100 mustangs on the road before seeing a Supra

      Actually, the mach 1 is slower and gets worse gas mileage. It sounds better, but looks similar to the tens of thousands of late-model mustangs on the road. The Supra is like an exotic car, due to its limited production numbers.

      I'm a former Corvette guy (68 and 2001). I also rented a 2022 C8 Corvette. The Supra is smaller, lighter, and much more efficient. The C8 is faster and less reliable (transmissions have been problematic.), but is almost too big for my garage. In addition, GM makes 30,000/year, meaning they are much more common than Supras.
