Decided to see if I could make my own blending solution and came upon your video. I just purchased some alcohol inks, as I wanted to give it a try, so will be watching some of your videos you mentioned. Thanks so much for sharing, it's always good to save some money, appreciate it!!! 💜💜💜
Janelle, I learn something different everytime I watch your videos. I paused you and filled a little bottle of glycerine lol, forgetting that my only alcohol markers were given to my grandaughter. Oh well, it gives me an excuse to go and buy some nice new ones. I love this technique you've shared with us. I love them all. Thanks again xx
I'm glad to learn more about the blending solution - you seem to use it a LOT and you get awesome effects....hoping I can get something relatively presentable when I get around to trying it out! Happy to have a DIY recipe as the solution can be another big expense...
I loved your video I am new to alcohol blending I have been dealing with anxiety this year that has caused me a lot of negative feedback from my work I started coloring and wow how relaxing now I’m experimenting with coloring with different media’s I’m hooked
You're my hero! Artist to artist, you actually gave me some tips that I have been looking for for some time. So grateful! Like the yupo alternative for ex. Thanks for sharing!
So glad that you mentioned that vegetable glycerin is what you used....I was confused after watching someone else explain this but no one seemed to know if there was a difference between ”pure” and vegetable” glycerin...Thank you! Helps heaps, blending solution is so expensive & love that tip to put some in a watercolour brush.....would never have thought of that..... ❤️❤️❤️❤️😁
Thanks Janelle, I have to get my hands on some of that glycerine, I know it can be used with a lot of DIY art products. I also make my own blending solution but I use windshield wiper fluid in mine where you used the glycerine. It also works great. Thanks again as always for your great videos!!! BTW its very easy to understand you and you don't use the wrong words, at least no more then the rest of us, give yourself a huge hug your amazing!!!!
Great of you to be such a blessing with your give-away goodies!! You've got a fan for life right here!! (Bsides - you are pretty knowledgeable & show valuable techniques!)
Hi there, I'm New to your channel. I was on Amazon reading comments for the Blending Solution, when 1 of them said you could make it yourself. So I came on here & searched & your video was 1st in the list. So I clicked on it. Boy am I Glad I did!! Not only did I learn how to make the Solution, I learned about Photo paper vs Yupo paper, & about the Straws. Definitely gonna go back & was ur videos using the straws to see what you do. You're right about the Yupo Paper - Cuz it's so expensive, I haven't used any yet cuz I'm afraid of ruining it & then I'm out that $. I belong to Sam's Club, so I went there & ordered Photo Paper. For the price, I went be upset if I ruin a page or 2 or 3. LOL I'm fairly New to alcohol inks. So I'm looking forward to watching your videos to see what I can all learn, which I'm sure will be a lot. Take Care .. Jill tfs 😊 P.S. I did Subscribe & Hit the little Bell.😉🙂
This stood out to me in several ways. (There is a point to all I’m gonna say) I’ve been in a 10 year long season of health issues that began making it into “medical history”. It started there and continued. In 2015 I had an Anaphylactic reaction to an infusion of only .3 mL of Iron Dextran. Apparently it set off what was already under the surface and began reacting to my own progesterone. Fast forward to now and I’ve had somewhere around 400, give or take, allergic/Anaphylactic reactions and even more Epi-pens (as my reactions grew more severe). What’s beautiful about all this are the priceless gems I gained along the way. I’ve actually flourished as I continually ran to the Lord-crying out in frustration and every other emotion you can imagine. My circumstances didn’t change physically but a whole lot was done in my heart and mind. All the pressure from the traumatic ongoing trips to the ER via ambulance and seeing what it was doing my precious husband and son, had me not just running to God for help but becoming more and more honest with Him. Doctors mocked me, dismissed me, didn’t believe me and left me to deal with “what wasn’t real”. I originally thought was God taking a HUGACIOUS VACAY. That was until I began to see what being in His Presence did. I began to sing and dance again. Joy overflowed and still does, even in the midst of the traumas AND a passion for art awoke. It’s become the number one tool I’ve had to turn it around and bless others in need. If the art was for me I wouldn’t do it but when I led to create for others, I go big and let the Lord guide me. I’m AMAZED at what’s come of it. Been so hungry to learn such different ways to create art. The bad pressure turned into good pressure and that has led me to your video. I hope you see this as the compliment that it is. I love that you’re doing the videos in your raw self. You said you say words you don’t usually say and I’m drawn to your vulnerability. I stopped the video each time and looked up where to find the items you mentioned. In doing so, couldn’t find the Medisca Vegetable Glycerin so looked many places. Still can’t find where to buy it for myself BUT when I got to Medisca’s website I saw that they use it for compound medical therapies. I told my husband it’s an answer to our prayer as I believe the Lord is showing us what path to take that will lead to pure and divine health so I can then take all the gems I’ve gotten by walking through the dark times and bless others. That’s HUGE...and all from watching your website on homemade alcohol blending. 💃🏻 Can you tell me where you got your Medisca Vegetable glycerin? I’m so glad I found you. Thank you for your willingness to be vulnerable and to help others like me overcome our own vulnerabilities (and for me fear & intimidation). Then to find that there’s such an AMAZING and bountiful giveaway each month....you’re truly a gem who stands out-in a good way! Oh, one more thing regarding the doctors who were scared to help me. I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same thing. Actually, I most likely would! To have a patient that had such a rare condition, complex medical history and life threatening reactions....I can see where they’d be terrified to make a wrong move. In the end, just before I almost died during an Anaphylactic Shock reaction, the Lord led us to a top doc at Mercy Hospital in MD who was the only one willing to perform the hysterectomy. It was a success and my vitals were better immediately! I’m 5 weeks post op and believing God will bring me to a place where I’m aggressively healthy & now gonna look into the compound treatments. Thank you for posting the video. If you want to check out my completely transparent public posts on my Facebook page. facebook.com/dawn.c.libby
Thank you for watching & I’m glad that you are doing much better. Not sure if you’ve watched any of my other videos but I am a Christian & so I totally understand where you are coming from. As for the vegetable glycerin, it is also just called glycerin too. I just buy it in the pharmacy sections of any store or even in a baking section at Michaels.
Thanks Janelle, I nearly feel famous now, LOL. I don't think you say the wrong things, I mean we all do that sort of stuff. Arkansas seems to have a dialect specific to our area or at least to the south. You made me laugh when you said you wouldn't be giving anyone your crap. You just sound real, not fake. Thanks again. Take care.Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I don't normally comment on tutorials, but I want to thank you. I never would have thought to use glossy photo paper for yupo but it makes perfect sense. 😊 And I love that I can now make my own blending solution. I already had the ingredients in my craft room. I just subscribed and can't wait to watch more videos. If you were here I'd give you a hug! 🌷Thanks again from Texas.
Do you recommend a water brush that has a removeable black valve insert like Jane Davenport for the blending brush, or will any waterbrush be fine? I have a few waterbrushes, but they don't have the black insert - unless they were a jane davenport marker
Just found this video and your channel! I'm new to alcohol inks. Love how you say you use the wrong words when making videos...I know I will do this too if I start recording ever lol. Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to watching more of your videos :)
Omgosh I almost said the EXACT same thing in my last comment! I am a new subscriber so I haven't learned a lot about you yet but like you mentioned about yourself, I TOO am completely self taught but have always considered myself to be a very creative person. I'm soo excited and encouraged to be following you as it gives me hope that someone like me, who can't draw and is just learning about color theory, shadowing and highlights etc etc etc, can actually get to the place you are now creating beautiful art! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for this video. Two suggestions, 1) some Dollar stores have photo paper (can't beat that price with a stick) and 2) if your container leaks near the cap, try wrapping the threads on top with the teflon tape used in plumbing. Remember to wrap several times clockwise, just the same as you twist the cap on.
+Linda Cade only certain photo paper works. Most don’t- I’m still looking for a replacement as the Kirkland brand photo paper from Costco was discontinued. You also need to have no printing on the back side of the paper as that is the side you use.
These may be stupid questions, but here goes: Is it possible to use methylated spirits? It’s a lot cheaper here than isopropyl alcohol. Would P.B. based glycerin be suitable? I haven’t found vegetable glycerin here yet. It was hard enough finding the petroleum based one.
I've seen people make their own alcohol ink Metallics like you did but they used a blending solution to keep the ink from gooping, one girl used hair spray but im wondering if you can use glycerine, maybe you shoild try making your metallic ink mixatoves again but use a mixtative, i love your vids. Also she used dollar tree eye shadows to make glitter ink
I just found your video. Would love to try making my own blending solution but thanks to the corona virus any kind of alcohol is hard to come by let alone 70 or 90 percent. Everyone wants it to make their own hand sanitizer. Love the tips.
+Karen Whiteway yes it does. If you put too more glycerin in it, it will dry even more shiny, but too much will make it take a long time to dry. It also depends on the humidity/dryness of your environment.
Hi Janell, of a slump I found your video at TH-cam and I am subscribing me directly. How nice of you to share how you make your own alcohol blending solution. I will give it a try as soon as I can get 91% isoprophyl alcohol. I pay myself poor on the lavinia alcohol blanding solution (not to mention the costs for post and the customs to get it from the UK) I live in Sweden and there is not so much stuff for mixed media and pooring acrylic paints, etc. Do you think i would have a change to win one of your giveaways and what do I have to do for it?.

It would be helpful to note where u can get the vegetable glycerin. Great video for us DIY’ers
I love this! Again, be in a rural area I appriciate the DIY options!

Thanks. I’ve ordered Adirondack blender so I’ll make a DIY batch and compare the two!
By the way, what was that brush pen thing you put it into?

How do you make your own inks?
Wow! Thanks so much for this recipe. This will really help my bank account!
Wish I would of found your videos sooner I would of loved this give away! Where do I find the stuff to mix with the alcohol?
Hi....if I have 99% isopropyl alcohol and I want 91% then can I dilute itnwith distilled water to work with alcohol inks?
I’m not sure it works that way. But there isn’t too much difference between 91 and 99 percent when it comes to making alcohol inks.
Thanks for the recipe!!!!!
I will try to make this doe myself
I love having an alternative to Ranger Blending Solution. Thanks!
I just made myself a new rule. Now I’m not one for following rules generally speaking but this one is important.

How do I buy blending ink cheaply?
Are you able to provide an actual measurement for the blending solution? i.e. 1 oz alcohol plus 2 drops glycerin etc.?! Thanks in advance. :)
I know when you use blending solution it dries shiny, as opposed to just using 91% alcohol. Does this dry shiny too?
