Your TH-cam channel is SO great because it really fills a gap in the card making community in that your videos really teach us the basics of each technique and tool. Almost all the others focus mostly on just showing how to make cards using specific products. But I find these videos almost IMPOSSIBLE to reproduce. I needed someone to show me all the things that you do. I hope more and more people find your channel because it will help more people discover the fun of card making and enable us to cross the rubicon from just watchers to actual Makers.
Hi JD! I recently discovered your channel and have been SO enjoying it! Imagine my shock and surprise when I got my notification 😄 for this video, eagerly sat down to watch and heard your super, super kind shout outs. Thank you so so much for that... it was wonderfully generous of you and I am truly grateful. I am just delighted that you found some useful ideas on my channel since I have been finding lots on yours. I’ve always thought there was a secret card maker living inside of me dying to come out. You may be inspiring her to dip her toes in the water… We’ll have to see what happens with that 😊. Thank you again for your awesome, fun, intelligent, brilliantly edited channel ... and for your very sweet mentions! I eagerly await to see what you do next! 😊😘💕 Happy crafting!
Hi myriam! I love your channel as well. Thank you so much for the kind words 😊. I’m in awe of your art skills and techniques. There’s a valuable art lesson in every video of yours! Sending big crafty hugs! 🤗
I use 91% rubbing alcohol to move and blend my inks. It’s cheaper than blending solution and does about the same thing. Thanks for the tips you shared in your video.
My favourite technique using alcohol inks has to be adding the Deco foil. I taught a class making 4 cards out of a 5x7 sheet of Yupo and adding the foil accents. It was a big hit! I love the idea of masking and revealing, so cool!
One of the best alcohol ink tutorials I have seen. My story- when I was young and vacationed with my family, I used to save spin art to do on the last day, at a booth that was always there outside of the souvenir stores. Always anticipated and a highlight of my time there. The lazy susan brought me right back.
Hi Jd-want to save a little ones? Use rubbing alcohol (91% preferably, but not necessarily) to clean up your ink. In fact, I use it to clean my workspace!!!
I’ve worked with alcohol inks before using a coffee filter. I used shades of greens and reds with a little bit of yellow. I was then able to cut and use the colored filter as my Christmas card developed. Thanks for the rotating tip.
Just came across this video as I am planning to try alcohol inks - WOW!!🤩. I can’t wait!! Love the vibrancy and how attainable you make it with clear instructions. THANKS!!
Good morning from Texas JD! I love ❤️ your techniques and this video. I had no idea of how to do this and you’ve inspired me to do something free form. Can’t wait for the weekend to head to Michael’s for supplies. I have only recently (6 months ago) rediscovered stamping. My daughter was born about 24 years ago and I pretty much gave up paper crafting to be a Mom (and I’ve always worked full time too). I’m so enjoying paper crafting again, with all the new supplies (I used to heat emboss with a toaster!) 🤣 I’m loving paper crafting again and introducing art to my precious 5 year old grandson, who inherited the “artistic” genes in our family. Keep your videos coming; you are never boring and your honesty is refreshing. ❤️😘
Thank you so much for your easy to follow video. You get straight to how to do it. And it is great how you are so generous with sharing other artists names.
Wow!! So much information and tips in only 16+ minutes of video! Thank you for putting this information together in one video. Very helpful for people new to AI art.
Lots of great ideas JD. I use new aquarium airline/water tubing (it's long and flexible and can be cut at whatever length, it's in the pet dept) to blow through when working with my acrylics. You should give that a try!
I just got my hands on a few bottles of alcohol inks, and I had no clue how to work with them. Never used anything like them before. So thanks a lot for the tips and tricks =) I feel much more confident trying these out now!
hello JD, this is a great video., thanks a lot. May I ask you if you have experience with colour fading over lots of years, and how you are able to protect your works from fading? this is my only concern to integrate alcohol ink in my works.. thank you so much in advance, phil
I have been playing with inks for a year now but you showed some techniques I haven't seen before and so excited to try them out!! Love the idea of using vinyl die cuts, definitely trying that one!! TFS!!!
Like the use of lazy susan, and vinyl. I will definitely be trying both. I also have a tip, I use rubbing alcohol for clean up, it's more cost effective and saves my blending solution for more fun techniques.
Hey JD. Just a massive thumbs up for these tips. I have not used or purchased alcohol inks as I didn’t feel the need to buy another medium when I adore what I have already. I’ve been doing the same stall tactic with foils. Then your tip showing me that I can do both. Mmmm 🤔 maybe I’ll be needing to invest!!!!
Thanks for the tips! Do you ever use isopropyl alcohol? I can’t afford the blending solution, it’s too expensive for the amount you get. I’ve seen all the others use alcohol instead, it really helps move the ink too.
Thanks, JD! I finally played with my alcohol inks for the 1st time & was mesmerized! Such a fun & beautiful way to create! So happy to hear we can use both sides of the yupo paper & great idea to cut down the full sized sheet! 😍 Blow tools, felt, paint brushes, foil & cake spinner are what I’ve used thus far, but I LOVE the masking technique using vinyl! I hadn’t thought to incorporate my cutting machines into alcohol inks like I do with paint & canvas projects! 😍 I’ve got tons of vinyl so I will surely add sentiments & shapes to the mixing of alcohol ink projects! Thanks, again, for sharing! Nice job! By the way, I so need that carrying case lol!!!!! You’ve given me so many great ideas! 🤗 I’m taking advantage of the links below! 💰
On the pink one with the blending tool that made circles, they totally looked like flowers. I would have added green stems and leaves since you are able to layer and possible a bit of silver foil? Or maybe even rose gold.
I’m a watercolorist and have experimented with some inks on yup, I naturally like to use a brush as my tool but the alcohol really damages them-Fast. It’s a good thing I used my older brushes.
Just wanted to mention and you and views might already know, but a much MUCH cheeper alternative to the Blending solution is just buying 90% isopropyl alcohol that you can pick up at a drug store or big box store for a couple bucks ..and you get a huge amount of it also compared to the small bottle of blending solution. And you can use that on a brush or qtip to write on the background as well and save more money not picking up a blending pen
Hello. I definitely loved the tip section with vinyl masking. As I had been discarding the use of alcohol inks for a quite long time now, this newly discovered trick opens a whole bunch of possibilities and made me want to give it a try back. Thank you !
Subscribed. I’m @2:59 and already you’ve offered more awesome tips than I’ve seen/heard watching several hours of videos from other popular artists. Inspired to play with inks again thanks to this FAB tutorial. Thank you ☮️
Oh Lordy!! Once again JD, I have to say you are such a hoot! Now if I could find a next door neighbor like you I'd be in heaven. I have these inks and have only used them twice. I just hadn't figured out how to use them in interesting ways, well as usual you came thru JD Thank you so much for your videos. I always learn things I didn't know before and love them all.Bless you JD
I am so thankful I found your channel from your 50k blog hop. I am loving your tutorials. You explain easy to understand and leave in mistakes to show you are human.
Great video JD. Did want to share with you that what I use and is so much cheaper than the alcohol ink blending solution is pure 99% alcohol. I've only seen that high of a percentage on Amazon but you can get 2 16 oz. bottles for right under $10.00 I think it is. I've used both and see barely any difference.
Put blending solution or alcohol into a mini mister. Then from 1-2 feet above lightly spray once. Give the droplets time to hit the surface and react before spraying again. Experiment from closer to the surface. You can also put different colors of alcohol ink into a mini mister and spray that. Some of the color combinations and reactions are incredible. Ranger Alcohol Lift pad can be used with stamps and stencils to remove alcohol ink leaving a lighter or highlighted image with a fair amount of detail. Flood the Yupo or surface with blending solution, then drop the inks into it. It provides a lot more movement and blending of the colors. Use the blending tool and pounce colors onto surface. Let it dry completely. Then repeat to add layers and richness/deeper color. Thin acetate can be die cut by most cutters, so you can cut really pretty translucent butterflies, dragon flies, fairy wings, flowers, sentiments... If you seal or lacquer surfaces, they make great jewelry pieces, key rings... Shrink plastic die cuts, just be aware the colors intensify a LOT when it shrinks so pale or light colors are best. Remember to punch a hole before shrinking if you want to make it a charm or attach it with twine or ribbon.
Thank you, JD. I've tried all sorts of media, but I'll tell you what, with Alcohol Inks, I hit it out of the ballpark in ONE TRY with your video to guide me. I used slick paper and 2 greens--teal and forest by Pinata to make a secondary mat for my pharmacy technician license. IT LOOKS LIKE A PRO DID IT! Thank you SO very much for your video. I notice most of these are 4 years old. Tired of teaching or did you move on to other media? 😁
Thank you for this video! I want to start using alcohol inks and your video shows me how! Quick question... so you said you can use that special Yupo paper and acetate, but are there any other types of paper you can use? Can you use photo paper? Or any kind of glossy paper?
Lovely! I'm truly a beginner with alcohol inks even though I've watched videos for a long time. Your tips are among the best and I'll bookmark them every which way so they're at the forefront when I go searching for them. I like the effect with the foils, though it took me a couple of tries to time the application correctly. That's a nifty storage case, too. I appreciate and enjoy your videos and all the effort you put into them to make them both informative and entertaining.
What a great video. You covered so much information so quickly and in terms even someone who has never used inks can understand. And its funny too. Thanks so much. Your work is beautiful.
I am SO glad i.came across your video! The ones I watched before were. . . Well, boring!! But you gave su h great, inspiring ideas! I can't wait to try them out!!
Thank you for your tutorial. Someone just gave me some alcohol inks and I haven't tested them out yet but I love all of your great tips so I can get started when I find the rest of my supplies!!
These are so much fun I love how I can be creative using different tools, since I've learned how to use Alcohol inks , I actually learned how to use them by watching one of your videos while I was doing artwork keep posting videos on how to use them.
Excellent tutorial! Thorough, lots of info, perfect photography, fast paced and to the point. And you have a very pleasant voice and conversational tone. Question: I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my chronically ill daughter, so I'm going to work inside my unairconditioned detached garage "studio" to avoid fumes in the living space. Of course it's really hot now where I live, so I figure the inks will dry really fast. Maybe too fast? I'm eager to use my new inks, but wonder what advice you might have?
I am excited about the possibilities of this!! I'd never heard of it, or possibly did but I didn't pay much attention---why? I guess because I didn't know what it was. I already did so many different art forms so didn't think I needed another one. Is there ever enough art? No/
Hi JD! I watched this video when it first came out and was mesmerized by all of the wonderful ideas that you came up with! I do have a question??? How do you get your colored ink swatches to stick to the little bottles??? I’ve tried doing it with my COPIC Ciaos, I cannot get them to stay on! I would love to be able to label my alcohol inks to, any advice?? Thank you so much for taking the time for doing this awesome video! You totally rock!! Liz😊💗👍🏼

Hi Myriam, I'm so excited to have found you through JD. Can't wait to see what you have to offer on your channel.
I use 91% rubbing alcohol to move and blend my inks. It’s cheaper than blending solution and does about the same thing. Thanks for the tips you shared in your video.
Thanks for this tip. I am very new to alcohol inks and was about to order the blending solution, but I'm going to try this first.
The blending solution is good for sealing the metallic mix mixatives and alloys.
My favourite technique using alcohol inks has to be adding the Deco foil. I taught a class making 4 cards out of a 5x7 sheet of Yupo and adding the foil accents. It was a big hit! I love the idea of masking and revealing, so cool!

I miss your sunny disposition and art knowledge. You introduced me to many different forms of art, and make it look like I could tackle it.
The lazy Susan is a great tip. I have yet to get my alcohol inks to look right, but you inspire me to keep trying.
So uh hobby lobby had some on clearance I kinda sorta maybe bought every color
Lucky you!!
How much did it cost?
Same!!
@@gimygaming8655 last year 2020 I bought some clearance for 99¢ at hobby lobby🙂
😂😂😂😂
I love how she gave credit!!
I had some old photo paper and it worked great.
Just came across this video as I am planning to try alcohol inks - WOW!!🤩. I can’t wait!! Love the vibrancy and how attainable you make it with clear instructions. THANKS!!
Thank you! I can’t wait to try the masking with my new Cricut Joy. Very helpful. One thing to add to the video is how to seal the work.

This was great. I am considering using this medium and just wanted an overview of how to work with it. This was perfect.

How do you protect your finished pieces? Do you spray them with a clear coat of some sort?
What do you do for protecting your work?
What varnish do you use?
Love this. Thank you. I am a beginner and excited to try these techniques!
"there inks... there's alcohol... not that kind of alcohol..." lol love it.
Hilarious comment/quote
Cool! I just got some today! Thanks for all the tips!
Omg amazing clear video. This is my summer project. Thank you for sharing. It’s amazing

Your channel is the best love your attitude and talents.
thanks!
Great tutorial for a beginner, thank you!!!
You could put a stencil over the top and use blending solution to make an image over the top. 😊 Thankyou for the tips
Beautiful tips! Hand sanitizer and 91% alcohol work for clean up and are cheaper! You can also use the 91% for blending for a different look!
Hi! Really enjoyed your video.... question about making these into cards. Do you seal them before making a card with the alcohol inks?
Thanks...
Kim
very informative and professional. Well presented. Thanks!

Thanks! Such great techniques!! I'm using straight 91% alcohol for my blending solution until I can get proper blending solution
How fun!!! Love the cake spinner and Myrium's nature!
Very helpful for a Beginner. Thank you

Love learning all the new tips! Congrats on your subscriptions!
Your voice and presentation are very nice, thanks for sharing these great tips!
Loved your video. Your demonstration of the masks was my favorite part.
Have you ever tried working in a jelly roll sheet pan? Wondering if the metal has any issues and the sides help keep your work area cleaner.
so many great tips...have a pile of alcohol inks I bought from an art shop closing down before I knew what to do with them - now I know, yea! tfs
Thank you for this video! I want to start using alcohol inks and your video shows me how! Quick question... so you said you can use that special Yupo paper and acetate, but are there any other types of paper you can use? Can you use photo paper? Or any kind of glossy paper?

I didn't see a list of tools, products and where you bought them. Where can I find the masking paper you used in your heart? Thank you, Joann
Love the vinyl masking idea! I can now use my dies with my alcohol projects. Thanks so much.
of course! we gotta get as much use out of those dies as possible
Great video. You gave some really good demos.
Wow!!! Best alcohol tips!! Thank you for sharing sooo many different ideas.
Great tips!!!!! Been using these inks for almost a year and never would've thought of any of them!!!
Awesome tutorial! I will give it a try!
Great tips, thanks. I'm just now getting into alcohol inks.
Thank you for all the tips. I am so going to do this . Love it.
Do alcohol ink and acrylic pouring technique both gives same results ??
Very informative! Thanks for getting right to the point, that's what I came for!
Really great tip and tricks for alcohol inks! Thanks for sharing❤️😊❤️

I’ve never tried ink before but now thanks to you I wanna give them a go xx
So how does this work on porous surfaces, does it dry really quickly? Also is the blending solution oil based or alcohol based?
Love alcohol as backgrounds, but also liked how you used them on an angle.
Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering if you know, if its possible to mix alcohol inks with Matt gel medium. Can acrylic and ink mix?
love your videos. you're amazing. you make everything so simple and fun. love your made up words.
Hi JD! I watched this video when it first came out and was mesmerized by all of the wonderful ideas that you came up with! I do have a question???
