I was in a pretty dark place in life for the past few weeks and I lacked inspiration and motivation to do much of anything. This made me laugh more than it probably should because it mirrored my experience with the game. In my most recent playthrough of Crystal, it was Entei that I caught immediately [complete with using a Quick Claw Hypnosis strategy] while Raikou took a longass time. And in SoulSilver it literally took me years to catch Raikou, oops.
While I see why people decided to call Entei "Scar", I still (personally) think that "Trolltei" was a better name given how Entei kept trolling Scykoh (so that it took two days to catch him)! XD
That Ho-Oh catch was a 0.4%!

Sorry Scykoh, I just can't bring myself to press B to help catch Pokemon. B is almost always the Cancel or the No button, and in my mind it does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. What I used to do as a kid is press A in sync with the ball shaking. That's how I help out.

You know, pokemon crystal was the first pokemon I truly tried to collect them all. My pokedex was almost full. I only needed 5 more. I had 300+ hours on that game. All legit, no cheating

Alright I laughed out loud when he ran while explaining.
Let's try to calculate the chance of successfully capture Raikou/Entei with the quick claw + hypnosis strat:
(TL;DR It's 2.8%)
Chance of quick claw activating: 23%, aka 0.23 out of 1
Chance of hypnosis landing: 60%, aka 0.6 out of 1
Chance of capturing a sleeping Raikou/Entei with ultra ball: 4.9%, aka 0.049 out of 1
To get it to sleep, first the quick claw has to activate and then the hypnosis has to land, so it's the product of the chance of both those things: 0.23*0.6 = 0.138 = 13.8%
Now, this is where it gets complicated. They can sleep for 2 - 7 turns, but since the first turn of sleep happens after you use hypnosis, you get to throw six balls maximum before it wakes up and runs away. I can't find anything about whether, for example, it is more likely to sleep for 3 turns than for 7 turns, so it's looks like it's equally likely, that is: 1/6th chance to sleep for 2 turns, 1/6th chance to sleep for 3 turns, and so on.
This means there are several different scenarios that can happen. The first scenario is: after having successfully put it to sleep (13.8%), you catch it on the first ultra ball. Chance of this is 0.138*0.049 = 0.0068 = 0.68%. This is what happened to you with Raikou, so you beat a 0.68% chance, Scykoh ^^
The second scenario is: the first ball failed, but you catch it on the second ball. It is still guaranteed to be asleep, so we don't have to worry about that yet, but we do need to factor inn the chance of the first ultra ball failing, which is 1 - 0.049 (or 100% - 4.9%, if you prefer). Chance of this is: 0.138*(1-0.049)*0.049 = 0.0064 = 0.64%
The third scenario: two balls fail, which means we must times by (1-0.049) two times. Also, there is a 1/6th (0.167 or 16.7%) chance that it wakes up after you threw the second ball. By now you might notice that we can just take the chance of the previous scenario and factor inn the chance that the previous ball failed (1-0.049) and that it didn't wake up(1-0.167). This we can do for each of the remaining scenarios, and I'm gonna call this the Entei-factor: (1-0.049)*(1-0.167) = 0.79. So the chance of the third scenario is simply the chance of the second scenario times the Entei-factor: 0.0064*0.79 = 0.0051 = 0.51%
Chance of fourth ball catch (aka fourth scenario): 0.0051*0.79 = 0.004 = 0.4%
Chance of fifth ball catch: 0.004*0.79 = 0.0032 = 0.32%
Chance of sixth ball catch: 0.0032*0.79 = 0.0025 = 0.25%
Finally, since it's one OR the other of all these six scenarios, we add up their individual chances: 0.68% + 0.64% + 0.51% + 0.4% + 0.32% + 0.25% = 2.8%, which is the final answer. So once you have encountered Raikou or Entei, you have a 2.8% chance to catch it with the quick claw + hypnosis strat.
Come to think of it, this is all assuming that Raikou/Entei will definitely flee after waking up, but we see in the stream that they might not, which gives you another chance to sleep it. So your chances are a bit higher than 2.8%, then.

The pokeball capturing ho-oh is something that happened to me. But instead was a groudon and a kyogre in the same save file of emerald, both with only 25 pokeballs together. "Gotta chach'em all" + normal pokeball only. I also had no way to give them status effects.
If you're familiar with chuggaconroy, he has a method where he enters and leaves one route til eventually the roamers and him match up

Didn't you know Scykoh? The Poke Ball is glitched in this game where about 1% of the time, it acts like a Master ball. That *must* be the reason why the Poke Ball caught Ho-oh at max HP without status.
Obviously no one cares and stuff, but I just wanted to mention that I've been excited for Stadium 2 for a looong time. I'm not even sure why, but probably just because for the first Stadium playthrough I wasn't around while it was happening, so I didn't care about it once it was all already over, but it'll be fun to watch it one episode at a time now.
Also, I'm on Team Mari-Oh too. Whoever suggested "Pehonx" should be burned! (By a Fire Flower, even.)
