I got the 15" Mac Book Air, M2, for my wife and for my daughter. They love em. My daughter thought the screen was big at first, but now she wouldn't give it up. It was a nice Christmas.
I’m so tired of hearing reviewers say things like, “ the M2 chip is OK for things like email and light web browsing.” That very laptop is about five times more powerful than the most powerful Mac Pro in 2010. So there’s an incredible lack of imagination and any sense of scale when reviewers like you say things like this.
The M2 is indeed a very powerful chip, but I'm not going to sit here and recommend it to the most demanding users, just because it's more powerful than a 14 year old Mac Pro. I also explain in the video how my M2 Mac Studio is the most powerful computer I've ever owned, and spend the majority of the video explaining why most people should buy the base chip in almost every eventuality.

In 2010, Red Dead Redemption was 11.4Gb. The current version, RDR2, came out in 2018 and it's 120Gb with much beefier minimum hardware requirements. In 2010 the latest WoW xpac was Cataclysm, coming in at 34Gb. The current xpac, Dragonflight, that came out two years ago, is 70Gb. It's not just the hardware that's getting beefier...all of the programs and webpages are, too...and what would've been mind-blowing back in 2010 can't even slog through ten minutes of a Twitter feed now.

And so, I opted for an M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 16GBs memory and 512GB storage. The reason being is mainly for video editing now. My old M1 Mac was struggling on just 256GB storage and 8GBs of memory.
Its kind of annoying how they only upgraded the base memory from 8gb-16gb for the soul fact of AI… they could include base storage a terabyte at the least just by how big our daily file sizes are increased dramatically. Plus they are pushing gaming so like if we are spending that much bread on the laptop at least make the memory same as market value. Its bs

Thank-you for your excellent roundup on Mac Computers. I am currently in the market for a new Mac mini and would really appreciate your thoughts on the best monitor to pair it with other than the expensive Mac one.
I like your videos and almost always agree with you, but I do have one disagreement on this video. I think raising the RAM is more important than raising the SSD, especially for desktop style macs. Sixteen GB might be good enough today, but you’re talking about future proofing. If you have a desktop style, Mac, an external SSD is not that big problem. I admit it is an issue when you have a laptop though. But at least it’s still possible to get an external drive with a laptop. It is not possible to upgrade the ram.
Not sure if this question has been asked before but why are you using USD currency if you are UK based tech vlogger? I am UK based so I’m a bit confused because pricing and offers in UK Apple stores differ from the US.
Ordering a Mac online isn’t an option for me, and the store I’m getting one at only has MacBooks. So my only options are to pay over $3000 for an m4 pro MacBook Pro to get 24 gigs of ram, (they’re expensive here) or get the m4 MacBook pro with 16 gigs ram. Will the base m4 MacBook Pro last for years if all I do is write, surf the internet, keep the A.I. turned off, and just use the apps the are already on there? I’ve read that MacBooks pros can last 7-10 years if you take care of them and don’t use it for heavy workloads. Would this be true with the base m4 MacBook Pro?
I love these videos recommending really sensible options for everyone then the creator will announce that they’ve ignored all of their own advice and bought much more than what they needed. 😂 don’t get me wrong I like the best too it just amuses me.
Yeah, I hear you. I could have lied about what I own to make my point, but that's not really my style. I acknowledge in the video that I've over-purchased for my needs, but it's my money, and I actually don't regret the purchases, even though I know they're overkill. People watching this video may be dealing with a different budget than me, so I want them to have the best advice possible (which they then are, of course, entitled to totally ignore!).
Interesting! I think as someone who doesn't use Windows PCs, I don't necessarily notice it, although I do acknowledge they're heavier than the MacBook Air or the iPad Pro. My 14 inch MBP seems ok weight-wise to me though? 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I have a 16" M2 MacBook Pro and it is my biggest regret (well and the iPad Pro M4, what a let down that has been) as it isn't really a laptop but more a mobile workstation. I ended up buying a 13" M3 MacBook Air back in April for travel and the M2 is basically a desktop now as I just don't like taking it out with me. The Air I never notice is in my slingbag whereas with the 16" Pro I have to take a backpack large enough to fit it and I notice the weight and overall heft of the unit constantly. Not a fan which is why I won't be getting a new MacBook Pro until they slim it down again and make it a big lighter. I appreciate it's power, etc. and accept it was my own mistake buying it so I won't be making that mistake again. Same goes for the iPad Pro, wish I could sell it without taking such a big loss as it is my least used Apple device sadly.
The Apple silicon MacBooks really aren’t that heavy and I wouldn’t expect them to get much lighter anytime soon. Fortunately the age of Jony Ive is in the past!
@@CAMTechChris The Macbook Air isn't but the Pro are, especially the 16". It's a little over 2kg which you certainly notice when carrying it around from place to place throughout the day. Obviously not something everyone cares about but it is annoying enough to me that I got an Air to use instead of the Pro for on-the-go work and just keep the Pro on my desk hooked up to a monitor all the time. I was hoping to sell it and pick up an M4 Mini but the price of the Mini with the same RAM as my MBPro is too high to justify even with trade in so I will just keep the Pro and use it like a desktop for now. Part of me hopes the rumours of a 2026 redesign to be thinner and lighter are true and maybe I get another Pro, who knows what the future holds though!
@ Omg, u answered))) I think air is obsolete. Mobile but fanless. Who needs a machine like this. Mobile desktops are all about perfomance. And u lose it when u go with air. But the ipad is different. It the most portable and versatile device. Wanna draw or edit photos use pencil, wanna code/type use kbm, hook a monitor if u need one. Dont be like Tim Cook, who uses an air, an ipad and the pro macbook. Be better!!! #makeipadosgrearagain

Interesting! I think as someone who doesn't use Windows PCs, I don't necessarily notice it, although I do acknowledge they're heavier than the MacBook Air or the iPad Pro. My 14 inch MBP seems ok weight-wise to me though? 🤷🏻♂️
@@ProperHonestTech the MacBook Pro I bought is over 2kg ...noticeable just moving it across the sofa ! 🙂
Don’t buy air, buy an ipad. It is way much better!!!
Unless you need to use MacOS... (iPads are awesome, but if you need apps that only run on Mac, you definitely need a Mac)

Omg, u answered)))
I think air is obsolete.

No. I do not need a Macbook.
But you watched the video anyway? 😊

I won't be buying another Mac until they add Bluetooth to them. I mean proper Bluetooth not the pretend type that doesn't work. 😒
