Hi as a previous windows user for 33 years I have just moved onto Mac. The Mac mini M4 to be exact. Your video and very clear explanation was perfect for me at 73 years old. Thanks...
For file defaults, there is a second way. Right click on the file you want to change the default, now press and hold the option key. You will notice the option that was named "Open With" changes to "Always Open With". While still holding the option key, navigate to the next menu level and select which app you want to always open that file type.
‘… a pretty exhaustive list …’. Understatement of the year? Thank you for these tips: I’ll have a go at some on my old Mac, as I’m sure it will improve functionality.
Bookmarked this one, thanks! Glad you mentioned the three-finger drag, that works so much better for me. I also discovered, by accident, that three-finger drag is also great for selecting text; just place the text cursor at the end or beginning of your selection, 3-finger drag to select, (no clicking) and then Cmd-X or Cmd-C.
Love these kinds of videos. I always take something away. That three finger drag, I didn’t know I could do that and makes it so much easier. Great video
I speak as an older and therefore slightly slower student. Might I suggest making your cursor size larger, so it is easy for us to see where you're pointing to. For those who are not already fully familiar with all the different menus and windows and such like it can be a little difficult to follow when you're giving instructions, perhaps you could give these instructions just slightly more slowly and try always to make it clear exactly what you're going to or opening. But, as always your presentations are a very high standard, thank you.
thank you for this video and also all the previous ones you have made - I came across your channel not long ago and am really impressed with all the content you release. Your videos are brilliant and really informative! I will soon get a mac and having been a pc user all my life, this is the type of info I definitely need. A massive thank you and keep up the excellent work :)
Just pulled the trigger on a new MBP 14" with the binned M4 Pro, and I haven't owned a Mac in a few years, so THANK YOU for this video! There were settings I never even knew I wanted from it
This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing. You share very valuable information, which i have personally found very useful.Keep sharing. You're doing really great.
I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't safe to use. There's a useful article about it here; www.idownloadblog.com/2024/08/07/apple-macos-sequoia-gatekeeper-change-install-unsigned-apps-mac/
@@Oeleo1000 I can’t speak for MOS specifically but this isn’t uncommon for free software. Devs have to pay to digitally sign the installer to get rid of the warning. Some pay out of pocket, but others don’t. I always say, “do some research and always make sure you download it from the official source”.
great tip to sign up other fingers for touchID. My 'standard' finger is the index finger but when I get up to our a cuppa or a bite to eat it's often wet or sticky - and my Mac has timed out meanwhile.
Trackpad stuff is brilliant. I’m new to Mac (2 years) and also added a mouse but with these settings, I feel I can do away with that except in clamshell mode
You might take up the Weather app. In particular I'd like to know how to set the app's map to Precipitation under the stacked card icon. Seemingly at random the app switches it to Wind and I've yet to find a way to make Precipitation the default.
Thank you. Really enjoy your videos they’re clear and precise. What do you use to frame your desktop display footage? I work in Windows professionally and know my way around it without looking but there are so many things in MacOS that I just never know how to find. Your videos really help with that. Oh and those watching may think this is just another sponsor but CleanMyMac really is exceptional. I wouldn’t have a Mac without it. The devs are super nice too whenever I’ve had to contact them about licensing.
I can't load MOS because "Apple could not verify 'MOS' is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy." And then the only options are "Done" and "Move to Trash." Is there a way around this or should I be worried about MOS?
Apple are making it borderline impossible to install third party apps these days. I'm sure if the app was in the App Store (and earning Apple a 30% commission on any income generated) it would be absolutely fine. I digress... Follow this link and the instructions in the video. Mos is 100% safe, I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. forum.dynare.org/t/installing-on-macos-sequoia-security-warning-and-save-as-mod-file-workaround/26450
Open settings and go to Privacy and Security. Scroll down to the bottom and click "Open Anyway". If you can't see that option try to open MOS again and it should pop up under Privacy and Security.
The Mac Mini looks fantastic. As the owner of a 5K 27" Intel iMac, I find it tragic that my wonderful 5K display can't be directly used with another Mac. I have the Luna display peripheral but the lag is noticable and requires that the iMac be in full operational mode during use. 😒. Where is target mode when we really need it?
are you using the new virtual drivers on the rodecaster? And if so, are you using loopback with it to allow the use of the faders to control your audio ?
Video suggestion, I’d really love to see your thoughts and process when you purchase a new MacBook. Should I use migration assistance? Should I use it on a cable or over Wi-Fi? How about doing it in the Apple Store use your questions I’m struggling with now as I’m anticipating buying a new MacBook.
I’d definitely recommend using migration assistance since you can easily get your data from your old Mac to your new one. However, I’ll warn you don’t get less storage than your old one. If let’s say you have a 512GB MacBook Pro and you get a 128gb MacBook Air, all of your data won’t fit.
This is crazy. I have an app opened in MacOS, Sequoia 15.1, I don't want it to slide to the side as soon as I open another app. For instance, if I want to use OBS to record my screen, as soon as I open OBS, whatever browser app is opened, it immediately slides to the right and the app becomes inactive. How can I avoid that? Otherwise, if I set OBS to display capture, and the display window is nothing but desktop (because the browser window went to the right), how can I capture the display?!
Yet another excellent presentation, made even better by your clear pronunciation and speech. I presume you’ve done some kind of elocution training, or acting type training? How can I search your material for whether you have dealt with a particular subject or question? For instance, I’ve got problems with speech to text Which keeps varying the level on recordings and I want to know if you’ve discussed speech to text and related problems
Yes, like others who have commented, is the Mos app truly safe and free of malware as Apple makes you make an exception for this app due to it not being able to verify that this app is free of malware? Can you please respond?
I prefer the magic track pad over a mouse on my desktop setups, tap to click, two finger secondary click, and 3 finger drag should all be the default. Why not Apple? When I visit the Apple Store I sometimes change the settings on a lot of the display models.
Have been endorsing them for well over a year now, and will continue to do so. Fantastic software, great team of people behind the scenes, absolutely no complaints from me, as someone who uses it on multiple Macs.
Half of these should be by default because macs come set up now in a way that's even worse than Windows. It's a miserable experience compared to 18 years ago when I first got a mac.
People coming from Windows tend to install a lot of 3rd party software, probably because Microsoft's software sucks ass. I highly suggest to do give the default Apple software a try, especially Safari. It is highly optimized for Macs, while Chrome is a piece of crap plus it phones everything you do home to Google. So many people immediately install all kinds of crap apps instead of trying out the default stuff and then complain that Macs suck.
And the idea of using a trackpad to scroll like a phone is bullshit. You are not looking at the trackpad, it's not a phone. It should be that if you scroll DOWN on the pad it scrolls DOWN on the screen, not up.
Thumbs down for not disabling the “Natural Scrolling” option on the trackpad. “Natural Scrolling” is the most unnatural gesture and awful setting Apple has ever forced on users.

The three fingered drag option is awesome. I’ve been using it for a long time and it makes things so much easier and better.
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for these great tips. I’ll own a brand new iMac soon and this video comes just in time 😊
Thanks for the MOS tip, good one!
I've used a Mac for years and didn't know a lot of these tweaks. They were very helpful. Thank you!
I swear I learn something new every time I watch one of these videos. As far as changes on set-up, I always change the scroll direction on track pad

Once again a number of changes done to my Mac following the video. I like the Cleanshot X suggestion.

Does "tap to click" change the way you "right-click" on a track pad?

Can file explorer column width automatically resize based on the file name length?
It doesn't change the default for all image files (in this example). It changes it for the file type (.jpg in this case).
Anyone knows how to put the changes into a script? So it can be maintained and use repeatedly?
