    I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max on launch day and charge to 80%. I usually end to day with just over 20% left. I use an old Apple charger (I think it came with my iPhone 6) which is only 5w. On days I use more battery, I’ll charge up from around 20% just enough to get me to the end of the day. I avoid high wattage chargers and wireless charging. At 1 year old the battery had 260 cycles and 100% health. Even I was impressed.

    • @ashfury
      @ashfury 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      @@TrailBikeMike I use a regular 20W charger, but use a portable fan blowing on the back of the iPhone when charging. I have the charge limit set to 80%, have a similar amount of cycles and also 100% health :)

    • @artfartzy
      @artfartzy 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      My charger is around 33w and I charge it to 100% most times, and after a year the battery was still at 100%, this was the case with my 12pm, 14 pm, and 15pm. So for me all this charging only to 80% is pointless for normal use.

    • @gigglybeast
      @gigglybeast 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      That is surprising given you let your battery get so low, so often. I try not to let mine drop below 40%. My XS Max was at 95% capacity at 5 years old when traded it in for a 15 Pro max. I usually charged that phone to 100% and tried to never let it fall below 40%. With my new phone I have the limit set to 80% and am still at 100% capacity after a year and 167 cycles.

    • @artfartzy
      @artfartzy 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@gigglybeast The saying is dont go below 20, surely you can go below 40 without any problems, you want to have some battery, if you set the limit to 80% and dont go below 40% that gives you only 40% in total. That is way to little to get most people through a day unless you don't use the phone much or dont mind charging it often.

    • @gigglybeast
      @gigglybeast 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@artfartzy - I do charge multiple times a day and keep it between 40 and 80. It’s quite easy to charge every time I get in my car or sit down in my house. The car is pretty much automatic as the place to lay my phone charges wirelessly. I’ve always heard it’s best not to go below 40%. The 20% “saying” you reference is new to me and 40% has served me well with my phones and iPads.

  • @TekkitsWorkshop
    @TekkitsWorkshop 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

    This is the main reason I got 16 Pro Max - the largest possible capacity. I charge my phone in the morning to 80% and with my average usage I end up at 45-50% by next morning. This is perfect for battery life, because lithion batteries prefer "shallow" charging. Long story short, if you want to preserve your battery life as long as possible, charge only up to 80% and do not discharge to low percentage, under 20-30% it put more stress on it. Always use wired chargers, charge slowly and for gods sake create a simple automation that will put your phone into low power mode in times when you are not using it, like while you sleep.

    About force quitting apps it is known and tested that some apps is draining on the battery while left open, specially social media apps like FB and IG and others. And also apps that uses your location services such as mapps and weather. Also I like to keep the app switcher clean, and if you keep every app open it will just result in a clutter. Specially if you work with 2-3 apps at the same time, and then have to swipe through lots of other apps to find the one you need in the app switcher. So unless you have an app that you use many times a day I dont see the need to keep it open.

    TBH, I don’t really think about battery charging too hard. Mainly because I don’t have a lot of great control over when it’s charged. Yes, I can choose to charge it at night. But, one of the features I use all the time is Car Play. In my car I have to use a USB cable. Ergo, to use Car Play I will be charging my phone. No major control about that. So, I just don’t worry too hard. My phone seems fine thus far. My previous phone was an iPhone 8 and it lasted 5 years before the battery life got annoying in the sense I had to charge it any moment I got. It’s comforting to know a lot of the common suggestions are myths, at least with the current version of technology.

Do you think this constant flow of cold air set a 25 Celsius is bad for the battery or even the screen? The analogy I use is this: when you buy a new car, imagine that the gas tank begins to shrink over time. Initially you can put 15 gallons in it and after a year it shrinks to 14.5 gallons capacity. After two years you can only put 13 gallons in the tank. And so on.

  • @badfaceday7509
    @badfaceday7509 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    As you also say in the video, the battery's ultimate enemy is heat. Especially too much of it, but also too little.
    Too much heat equals temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius (about 80 degrees f) After that, the physical degradation of the battery begins. At first it goes slowly, but it accelerates as the temperature rises. Frost can also damage the battery, especially if you try to charge while the battery is frozen. There, the chemical effect (read: the liquids in the battery) cannot work as it should. This can damage both the anode and the other elements.
    My best advice is:
    Charge often, with a slow charger (to avoid excess heat) or make sure to cool the phone while charging. Do not charge when the phone is around the freezing point or below. Do not place the phone in direct sunlight for a long time.
    If you play very demanding games or use other applications that make the phone very hot, buy a fan for the phone that can keep it cool.
    And as is also written elsewhere - 20-80% charging keeps the battery happy!
    the rumor that the battery must be charged up to 100% once in a while and discharged all the way to 0% does not originate from the battery, but is a misunderstanding that has arisen because many electric cars benefit from this. But it is not for the battery, but for the sake of the calibration of the BMS, which in an electric car must keep track of many battery cells - up to several hundred, and these must be balanced with each other. In a phone there is only one battery cell, so this is unnecessary.

    I've got two problems with charging my iPhone15 Pro:
    - Charging overnight with a 5W-charger doesn't get my phone to charge all the way up (limit set at 90%). Mostly it only gets me around +30% charging power while asleep (about 8 hours). I thought slower charging is better for my battery, so I'm using 5W instead of a 20W charger I also got lying around. Is this also a myth? Am I better off using 20W so I can start the day with 90%?
    - My main battery drainer is Apple Music with bluetooth headphones or casted to a smart speaker. I do this a lot during the day (roughly 5-6 hours a day). Is it normal this is using so much battery life? My phone can go from 90% to 20% on a regular basis during one day and it's really new (two months old). I think my old iPhone13 Mini lasted longer.

    So most of the things that now improve battery life or additional settings are only available on iPhone 15 and later even though most of them are software changes.

    With many of the new cars have wireless chargers to set you phone on. Many people put their phone on the charging pad every time they get in the car. Often, if they are in & out of the car a few times the phone is out on & off the charger numerous times sometimes within short periods. Is this hard on the battery & how should you handle this situation??

      I used low power mode for 3 years, charging most nights to 80%. When I stopped, my battery degraded quickly after charging overnight to 100% and letting it go to 0.
      After 3 years my iPhone 13 base model was at 88% battery health yet it was dying quickly.

      Because of additional heat right? If only I'd partnered with a company that include tech to limit the heat created while wirelessly charging... 😉

    All batteries work this way. And wireless charging is a solution in search of a problem. How is plugging in a cable any less tedious than putting a device on a wireless charger? And I’ve had batteries swell in devices that were unused and in storage. It’s better to keep your battery charged on a somewhat regular basis.

    Mine is still at 100 % and it's a iPhone 15 Pro Max. One of the reasons my percentage is still high is because I maximize the capacity of my battery.

    I set my phone to charge to 90%. After the latest update, I noticed the phone charged to 100%. Opened the battery in settings, and the setting had not changed. I set it to 95%, then brought it back to 90%. It seems to work now, but I found it curious that this happened. I have an I-phone 15 pro, running 18.0.1.

    I invested €1800 in an iPhone 15 pro max direct from Apple on release date. After 9 months my battery max capacity was only 89%. My iPhone 13 Pro Max was at 92% after 2 years. My battery only lasts 10hrs whereas my 13 I was getting 16hrs with same use and charging styles. Very disappointed. Apple say phone / battery is fine because I’m a heavy user. Not happy…

    I got a used iPhone 15 around 5 days ago at 92% battery level with less than 300 cycle count, in those 5 days with only added barely around 3 more cycles (I know what a cycle is) it's already at 91% even though I keep the phone at 85% maximum charge and don't overheat it. Is that bad?

    I recently upgraded from an iPhone 10 to an iPhone 15 pro. The main reasons being that I was running out of storage but the main reason was battert life; it just died very quickly, to the point that the phone was unusable.
    I had all the usual battery saving settings engaged: location services off in almost apps, background refresh off for almost all apps, auto-lock set at one minute etc etc. but battery life was still terrible.
    Having got my new iPhone 15 I wiped the iPhone 10 and set it up as a new phone (I use it for another SIM contract) and now the battery is great.
    Settings shows:
    - Max capcity 85%
    - Peak Performance Capacity
    Very odd and I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this unexplained battery useaged?
    Thx

    Any amount of wireless charging will harm your battery in the long run. Using a wireless charger with a fan, like the one in the sponsor spot, might help a little, but that would be like pointing a fan at your stove so your food wouldn’t burn while you’re cooking. The safest way to charge your battery is with a cable, not wirelessly.

      Maybe, but here is an example, lets say: over weeks or even month you open 50 to 100 different apps on your phone, surely that will consume way more power than just opening few new apps on a given day.
