I realized something heart breaking when rereading the opening chapters. Remember when everyone in the lower city was scared that Rozemyne would be a completely different person on the inside when she was taken in by the nobles? But then it turned out she was still the same ink sniffing weirdo on the inside once they were in the hidden room causing a wave of relief? Well Rozemyne just got the bad end of that. Not only had everyone suddenly looked different but even in the hidden room they acted too, even on the inside they werent the same people they used to be. She even goes to pat Gil not just to praise him but to feel that connection again but he reflexively goes teen on only to cave once he realizes that he just accidently shattered his masters heart. And it's not just Gil, everyone matured to some degree over the past 2 years meaning Rozemyne is once again almost isolated in her own world.

If they are in active translation they generally come out once a week...With Bookworm releasing on Mondays. Each book they translate is different, but Bookworm is split into 8 sections per book. Currently All of book 1 of Part 5 is in Pre-pub and can be read and Book 2 of Part five released the 4th section today(11/28/22)
I like the detail that Rosemyne has a slight preference towards Schutzaria and Wind Mana, since it actually fits her personality very well. Schutzaria's divine instrument is a shield: a symbol of protection that not only aligns with her domain as Goddess of Protection, but also with Rosemyne's highly protective disposition when it comes to her family and friends. Remember, most of her Crushing outbursts aren't caused by Rosemyne herself being put in harm's way, but by people she loves being threatened or harmed. She's also very protective of the children in the orphanage as well as her retainers (remember how Ferdinand pointed out that Rosemyne protecting her retainers over the farmers was highly irregular?). Schutzaria is also the Goddess of Harvest, and what is harvest if not reaping the rewards of your own hard work and effort, something that Rosemyne considers to be very important and preaches regularly. Finally, Schutzaria is the Goddess of Art and fast delivery of messages, which are less obvious but still fitting of Rosemyne. Art can be many things, typically anything that's creative and expressive in some way, like the many stories, songs and recipes that Rosemyne invents. Fast delivery of messages is the weakest link but can be attributed to Rosemyne's very direct way of communicating with others, the speed at which she pushes new projects, and the faster communication of information that her precious books offer people.
It's really a testament to how great this chapter is that Anastasiu's introduction chapter can get glossed over when you first read it but is fucking hilarious when you look back at the audacity that Roz shows
I think it is understated just how sad it is that her commoner family cannot even talk about her anymore. They almost are losing any chance to remember her.
It's not like they can't talk about her at all anymore, they just have to be careful Kamil isn't within earshot. For example once he gets old and strong enough to go foraging - which seems pretty much around the corner - he'll spend plenty of time in the forest, in which Gunther and Effa can talk about Myne all they want with each other. Talking with Tuuli and Lutz however is pretty much shut off completely, since Kamil is all over them when they visit.
Not entirely true. As far as the LN goes. All of Myne’s family manage to get a single string of connection to her. So it’s not like are completely cut off, yet.
Alot of people really like part 4 because in here myne finally can showing her cool stuff to other people not to mention there's no one restraining her like lutz, bennno and Ferdinand lol
I ended up reading through all of Part 4 after the last video. Thanks for getting me into the light novel. Watching Rozemyne rampage through the Royal Academy has been great.
To give a bit more context on the body enhancement magictools and the little verbal spat with Ferdinand: Rozemyne assumed the magic tools would go on her ankles and didn't see an issue with Ferdinand taking off her socks. However the tools go quite high up her thighs... high enoug up that her underpants are in the way and need to be taken off for the tools to be put on. So it's quite understandable Ferdinand would not want to do that... but at the same time he could have just told her that without insulting her in the process... or considering he told her to put them on herself, he really should have told her where on her legs they are supposed to go in the first place, which would have precluded the whole misunderstanding from the start. But nope, he once again is devoted to "saving time" by telling only what he considers the absolute minimum necessary which once again turns out to be too little and thus makes the conversation longer than it would have been had he just been thorough in the first place, like so many times before. But he never learns. Also I'm pretty sure had Rozemyne agreed to do it herself right away instead of asking Ferdinand to do it, she'd have ended up putting them on wrong, wasting even more time. A little defense of Roderick: Yes he "tricked" Wilfried technically, but not knowingly. He just did what his father ordered him to do and had no idea that there would be any negative consequences, much less the severety of them. To him it looked like harmless game at the time, so the ones to blame are most certainly his parents and those higher up in the hierarchy of their faction. Roderick was more or less as much of a victim in the Ivory Tower incident as Wilfried. A bit more detail on the status of academy staff: The academy staff in general is not excluded from the regular way status works! The only exception are the professors directly teaching students. While the librarian is also called professor, she does not teach any subject herself and thus is not included in the exception, counting as just her regular rank. Thankfully being a sovereign noble at least makes her higher in status than any and all other mednobles, so the only ones able to walk over her are archnobles and archduke candidates, who are far more likely to send med- or laynoble underlings to the library than go there themselves. Of course the rules of the library come directly from the royal family and more importantly the oath students take when registering for the library is a magic contract directly with the Goddess of Wisdom, so there's only so much leeway to mistreat Solange and the library students can do without offending the royal family or even quite literally incurring divine retribution. It is unclear however whether the exclusion counts only for your own teachers or also for teachers of other classes. Does an apprentice scholar for example have to show deference to a professor of the knights course with whom they have not a single lesson if they outrank him? No idea... But since the vast majority of professors are archnobles anyway, the only ones that might benefit here are archduke candidates, who are usually well enough raised and have too many political worries to think about to go around antagonizing professors for this to become an issue. Of course there's some soft power and politics always brewing in the background. Just like an archnoble of a higher ranking duchy won't needlessly antagonize a mednoble of a higher ranking duchy for fear of reprisals of that duchy's own archnobles, a student who technically outranks a professor won't risk doing too much with that authority so as to not piss of other, higher ranking professors or accidentally step on the toes of royalty. So you won't see any students go beyond passive-aggressive behaviour and ignoring due-dates. And there's of course also the issue of wanting to look good, composed and capable in front of the entire country's future elite and at least one member of the royal family as well. The library still has bells. The multi-coloured lights are put there in addition to that for people like Rozemyne who get so engrossed in reading they don't notice them. ^^ Marrying relatives is a little more complicated... and at the same time simple. Essentially just ignore the father entirely and only consider the relation to the mother. Half-siblings can only marry if they are from different mothers. If they have the same mother and different fathers that's forbidden. This is because the mana quality is inherited mostly from the mother and that appears to be more important than genetics in their world. That is why it would be fully acceptable in that world for Wilfried to actually marry Detlinde, since they are related "only" through Wilfried's father. His mother Florencia has no physical relation with Detlinde's mother Georgine, so that's perfectly fine by their standards.
One extra thing about marrying family members is that you can't marry your descendants by blood. So Sylvester could marry Rozemyne (though still a scandal), but she can't marry Bonifactus.

About body enhancement magic tools. The only condition was that it must touch a bare skin on her legs. Rozemyne could not put them on her ankles because of her attire (her socks were attached to her belt). They just got a small misunderstanding when Rozemyne assumed that magic tools can be put over clothes and Ferdinand assumed that Rozemyne was an exhibitionist :)

I believe Primivere always tells students to redo their greeting regardless of how well they do it the first time. The aim is to see how they react to being rebuked; those who step out of character before redoing the greeting get lower marks, while Rozemyne stuck to the scenario and kept going as if it were a real meaning with a royal (though she seems to forget the lesson when meeting actual royal). Other students will have allowed their expression to show some hint of annoyance at having "failed the greeting". I managed to BS my way through a French exam by not breaking kayfabe, when the teacher said something incomprehensible I asked them (in French) to repeat the question more slowly. I suspect that anyone tripped up by the question who slipped into English will have received a lower grade.
I think Rozemyne fooled Professor Primivere with her "noble facade". Even if she ever passed the lesson for royal greetings, she seems to not apply it at all because she always saw Anastasius as the dork he actually is no matter how large the differences between their statuses are.
I think it isn’t just that. But also to see if they are willing to put up with BS that the Royal may demand. Since “if the Royal want it, you have to do it.” So regardless if you do it right or wrong. You have to repeat your greeting as many times as the royal want you to. Even if they ask you to start making a fool of yourself, since it is a order from royalty, you *have* to do it.
The class was designed to throw archduke candidates off of their rhythm. Asentioned in the books these candidates aren't used to unreasonable demands or being thrown off script. The tea party was set up to add chaos to throw people off. Asking to repeat every greeting caused most of the candidates to crack under pressure amd show signs of stress or come close to lashing out. Rozemyme passed because she didn't crack or lash out. To most archdukes this is new territory but to Rozemyne an unreasonable demand with an impossible deadline is a light breakfast at this point. Not only did she parse out the trick but she also handled the issues that arose without laying blame on the "royalty" instead shifting mistakes to the attendants when blame was necessary.

Her demeanor is no different from her past life, which means she's still the same Urano who acts like a child when she doesn't get what she wants, mainly books. And also compared to everyone else in the archducal family, she is the one who is shouldering most of the responsibility in running the business economy despite her constitution is not suited for her job to do so.
I love your recaps I have just started to read the light novels and man I have devoured them and I am already in her 2nd year at the academy. I originally started with the anime and after listing to your channel I decided to dive in the books themselves. I realy enjoy the writing style.

I have collected and read every volume, but the details and connections are so many and multi-layered that the full depth of the series only comes out when it is deiscussed by multiple people... or, if you don't have a strong circle of fellow Bookworms to share with, then by watching an Arch-Scholar like this break-it-down in front of you. His comments are wonderful, his voice and delivery are great, and the "puppet theater" is not only amazing... the lines they say that are NOT from the books completely crack me up time and again. This is one of the favorite things in my world right now, has been for years, and I humbly petition you to continue to the very end. Praise be to the Gods! I love this series. Just finished reading the book and your recap helps me remember key details. Like I read book 4 vol 7 3 times and I pick up 6 important fact for the future book. Stuff for the side story in book 1 can be very important foreshadowing for later books

Having done the math thanks to a fanbook where the writer stated that a day in world is still 24 hours, at 10 bells a day that means each bell is 2 hours and 24 minutes.

@@iarebuzz171 This is actually a detail that is pretty consistent with the traditional Japanese time system which split up the day into 6 periods, not only that but other cultures had similar timekeeping concepts as well which you can read more about if you look up terms such as "temporal hour" and "canonical hours." These timekeeping systems were based on when the sun rose/set as well as solar noon, so they're not as illogical as one might think. (Though they definitely had their issues.) In Bookworm's case for example, 4th bell is always noon regardless of what time of the year it is.
It was only recently that the modern world got on the same even times at all. Every town would be in their own zone. Some were rich enough to afford a clock so their hours were of a consistent rate, but they'd set it by using a sun dial on a random day and that's noon now no matter the time of year. Some had a community sundial. It was when they needed to standardize it for train routes that they finally made time keeping consistent. Compared to Earth several hundred years ago Yurgenschmit has very consistent time keeping.

"using Hogwarts as background" XD But honestly love to compere this part of seers with Harry Potter, I mean its a magic school and i guese HP sat the stage of what a magic school is and feels like. Yet Ascendance of a Bookworm really really shines in part 4. Like part 1 to 3 was really just a intro to the magic school, and the school is so intersting becuse unlike HP it trully feels and acts like a school I also tough about how one thing that really sets AOAB form most other fantasy world i seen is that it gets Nobles and rich people right. Alot of the time in practically most story you only see rich people flawed side. Becuse those that wrote them did not understand fully the easy thing is always to asume evil when someone dose something that seems mean you dont undstand. What i mean is in AOAB we see the class system we get to undstand WHY the nobles do as they do, and we get to know that alot of the things at first glance seem like rich people being arrogant and abusing power, is in fact much more complex. And most of the time its not that the higher ranks just wish to do the stuff, but that the hole system force them to. The lower ranks are not just doing stuff for the higher ranks because they forced to, but because everyone benefits if things are done in a certain way. In the end it all comes down to people needing jobs to earn money and protection from enemies. Same with looks, higher ranks dont just look good because they want to display there wealth, sure thats part of it, but the reason is that you need to in order to survive in this world. Its really in truth defense part of the constant plots that you either do or die, and thats all becuse they dont have a police force. And it really shows how spoiled were are now days with a handy dandy government to be the rulers in eye level for all. Instead of you having to rely on you family and connections to keep you safe. THATs what blew my mind in this story, Miya Kazuki really gets it, her world feels alive because every part of it put together in ways that are logical sensible. Think it just might be the story with fewest plot holes ever, so far the only plot hole/ iusue i found with this world is the question of what commoner farm animals are, and why and how they seem different from fay beasts? so picks exist, but picks dont have mana? yet commoners do have mana, its just so litel you need blood for it. but then why do fay best melt when you hit there crystal? and do nobles also have crystal? do nobles melt? From the looks of it, clearly now, because if you could just melt people there would be more protection and cultur around that... like there is with poisons. So that hole thing really confuse me, but maybe there comes a explication. Theres also the problem of magic being way to loosely defined, but thats becucuse magic is magic and would not be magic if we could explain it. Also what is outside the country, and why dose the world rely on the use of mana? so yeah not really plot holes more plot dark spots. And thats whats so amazing. I compere that to Harry Potter, a world i trully made my childhood, but the Harry Potter world really falls apart when you look at it to long. Same can not be said about this story, this is almost not a magic story but perfect build engineering project. And now i rambled on to much again... god its hard to stop. Cant wait for part 5 :O

Let me get you the translations for the professors in this book: Hirschur => a Hirsch is a Stag (male deer), but i don't know what the -ur does here Fraularm => Frau = Woman but Larm should be Lärm, meaning "loud noise" Rauffen => Raufen => brawling Solange => so lange => so long Gundolf is probably just a mutated Gandalf, there is no German here. Primavera is Italian for Spring, so the author went into other languages as well. And for the tools of the library: Schwarz => Black Weiss => White Which is very much on the nose...
Some of them are just German names. I know someone in real life named Hirschur and another named Solange. The author certainly looked up meanings before deciding on names but didn't name everyone like a Japanese person.

I was just feeling that something may have been glossed over. I am a Harry Potter fan and thought that starting with the Goblet of Fire that all the movies should have been two part movies. Compared to the books, they were lacking. It’s like taking War and Peace and make a 1 hour 40 minute movie out of it. It would be lost in translation. I love this channel and I think he does an excellent job but watching the video. Just my opinion, it seemed like he was rushing to finish. I’ve listened to all his Bookworm videos repeatedly and started to watch my Tanya the Evil, love that girl, videos. So, I’m a fan of his channel. But this is just my opinion.

@@harshreality73 Nah, she wants to get into his pants. She's set to become the next Aub Ahrensbach, which is a problem for a woman. Finding a male archduke candidate from another duchy that's willing to let him go is a challenge at the best of times, and Yurgenschmidt is still in the midst of a mana shortage so it's even harder for female archduke candidates to assume the role. She (and most likely Georgine) see seducing Wilfried as the easiest way to secure Detlinde a husband since Ehrenfest would be in no position to refuse if he himself wanted to marry her. The fact that it would also serve as a massive "fuck you" against Sylvester is obviously a bonus in Georgine's eyes.
I interpret that first interaction by the fact that she got the Arenbach intel in which Rosemyne was actually an adopted common girl and that there was no way that she would actually talk to a common girl. And in the same way, adults told her to be sweet to Wilfried since he is husband material. Detlinde’s fate was conditioned from the start.

One thing that is never stated, is that there are NO student black capes other than the actual royalty. So either the young royals are wandering around unprotected, or something isn't getting said. When in the academy, the young royals rely on apprentice knights/scholars/attendants for various needs, just like the archduke candidates. However, all the students - even those raised in the sovereignty - go to their affiliate dorms. Thus, Anastasius' multi-colored "groupies" look at Rosemyne funny; she's a threat, and a mouthy one at that. This could have been cleared up by the end of her first year, but it seemed to have gotten forgotten until nearing fourth year when - redacted for spoilers - happens.
This has probably been mentioned at least ten thousand times, but could there be a more fitting name for a character than Fraualarm? Most of the names and magic words in these novels are German, and nothing fits this screaming banshee better than alarmed woman, or Frau Alarm. I get tickled every time I read it and I have read it several times! Great breakdown.
I love these huge overview recaps with animations to keep track of everything. Honestly academy life feels so rushed with them being able to just pass a class with no real education system from the teachers. I can't tell if its a writers ploy to just skim it for the sake of the story progression or if this was a legitimate process for education back in the past, or similar to. Not to MENTION, We see all of Myne's entourage/attendants, but ... Where's Wilfreds??? Doesnt he need attendants? Also I thought Charlotte was in the same grade, where was she? (did i miss something?)
Charlotte is a year younger, so she's not there. As for Wilfried's attendants, I think them not being visible is mostly Rozemyne being an unreliable narrator and his voice being the only one which cuts through her obliviousness. That and he's not a borderline invalid like she is and so doesn't need constant babysitting just to ensure she doesn't get sick.

I recall early on when she was i think 5 she was being compared to a 3 year oold physically. I realized something heart breaking when rereading the opening chapters.
Remember when everyone in the lower city was scared that Rozemyne would be a completely different person on the inside when she was taken in by the nobles? But then it turned out she was still the same ink sniffing weirdo on the inside once they were in the hidden room causing a wave of relief?
Well Rozemyne just got the bad end of that. Not only had everyone suddenly looked different but even in the hidden room they acted too, even on the inside they werent the same people they used to be. She even goes to pat Gil not just to praise him but to feel that connection again but he reflexively goes teen on only to cave once he realizes that he just accidently shattered his masters heart. And it's not just Gil, everyone matured to some degree over the past 2 years meaning Rozemyne is once again almost isolated in her own world.
Part 4 kicks off and then comes Part 5 and says: "Hold my beer"

If they are in active translation they generally come out once a week...With Bookworm releasing on Mondays. Each book they translate is different, but Bookworm is split into 8 sections per book. Currently All of book 1 of Part 5 is in Pre-pub and can be read and Book 2 of Part five released the 4th section today(11/28/22)

I like the detail that Rosemyne has a slight preference towards Schutzaria and Wind Mana, since it actually fits her personality very well.
Schutzaria's divine instrument is a shield: a symbol of protection that not only aligns with her domain as Goddess of Protection, but also with Rosemyne's highly protective disposition when it comes to her family and friends. Remember, most of her Crushing outbursts aren't caused by Rosemyne herself being put in harm's way, but by people she loves being threatened or harmed. She's also very protective of the children in the orphanage as well as her retainers (remember how Ferdinand pointed out that Rosemyne protecting her retainers over the farmers was highly irregular?).
Schutzaria is also the Goddess of Harvest, and what is harvest if not reaping the rewards of your own hard work and effort, something that Rosemyne considers to be very important and preaches regularly.
Finally, Schutzaria is the Goddess of Art and fast delivery of messages, which are less obvious but still fitting of Rosemyne. Art can be many things, typically anything that's creative and expressive in some way, like the many stories, songs and recipes that Rosemyne invents. Fast delivery of messages is the weakest link but can be attributed to Rosemyne's very direct way of communicating with others, the speed at which she pushes new projects, and the faster communication of information that her precious books offer people.

I think it is understated just how sad it is that her commoner family cannot even talk about her anymore. They almost are losing any chance to remember her.

For example once he gets old and strong enough to go foraging - which seems pretty much around the corner - he'll spend plenty of time in the forest, in which Gunther and Effa can talk about Myne all they want with each other.
Talking with Tuuli and Lutz however is pretty much shut off completely, since Kamil is all over them when they visit.

To give a bit more context on the body enhancement magictools and the little verbal spat with Ferdinand: Rozemyne assumed the magic tools would go on her ankles and didn't see an issue with Ferdinand taking off her socks. However the tools go quite high up her thighs... high enoug up that her underpants are in the way and need to be taken off for the tools to be put on. So it's quite understandable Ferdinand would not want to do that... but at the same time he could have just told her that without insulting her in the process... or considering he told her to put them on herself, he really should have told her where on her legs they are supposed to go in the first place, which would have precluded the whole misunderstanding from the start.
But nope, he once again is devoted to "saving time" by telling only what he considers the absolute minimum necessary which once again turns out to be too little and thus makes the conversation longer than it would have been had he just been thorough in the first place, like so many times before. But he never learns.
Also I'm pretty sure had Rozemyne agreed to do it herself right away instead of asking Ferdinand to do it, she'd have ended up putting them on wrong, wasting even more time.
A little defense of Roderick: Yes he "tricked" Wilfried technically, but not knowingly. He just did what his father ordered him to do and had no idea that there would be any negative consequences, much less the severety of them. To him it looked like harmless game at the time, so the ones to blame are most certainly his parents and those higher up in the hierarchy of their faction. Roderick was more or less as much of a victim in the Ivory Tower incident as Wilfried.
A bit more detail on the status of academy staff:
The academy staff in general is not excluded from the regular way status works! The only exception are the professors directly teaching students. While the librarian is also called professor, she does not teach any subject herself and thus is not included in the exception, counting as just her regular rank. Thankfully being a sovereign noble at least makes her higher in status than any and all other mednobles, so the only ones able to walk over her are archnobles and archduke candidates, who are far more likely to send med- or laynoble underlings to the library than go there themselves.
Of course the rules of the library come directly from the royal family and more importantly the oath students take when registering for the library is a magic contract directly with the Goddess of Wisdom, so there's only so much leeway to mistreat Solange and the library students can do without offending the royal family or even quite literally incurring divine retribution.
It is unclear however whether the exclusion counts only for your own teachers or also for teachers of other classes. Does an apprentice scholar for example have to show deference to a professor of the knights course with whom they have not a single lesson if they outrank him? No idea... But since the vast majority of professors are archnobles anyway, the only ones that might benefit here are archduke candidates, who are usually well enough raised and have too many political worries to think about to go around antagonizing professors for this to become an issue.
Of course there's some soft power and politics always brewing in the background. Just like an archnoble of a higher ranking duchy won't needlessly antagonize a mednoble of a higher ranking duchy for fear of reprisals of that duchy's own archnobles, a student who technically outranks a professor won't risk doing too much with that authority so as to not piss of other, higher ranking professors or accidentally step on the toes of royalty. So you won't see any students go beyond passive-aggressive behaviour and ignoring due-dates.
And there's of course also the issue of wanting to look good, composed and capable in front of the entire country's future elite and at least one member of the royal family as well.
The library still has bells. The multi-coloured lights are put there in addition to that for people like Rozemyne who get so engrossed in reading they don't notice them. ^^
Marrying relatives is a little more complicated... and at the same time simple. Essentially just ignore the father entirely and only consider the relation to the mother. Half-siblings can only marry if they are from different mothers. If they have the same mother and different fathers that's forbidden. This is because the mana quality is inherited mostly from the mother and that appears to be more important than genetics in their world.
That is why it would be fully acceptable in that world for Wilfried to actually marry Detlinde, since they are related "only" through Wilfried's father. His mother Florencia has no physical relation with Detlinde's mother Georgine, so that's perfectly fine by their standards.
One extra thing about marrying family members is that you can't marry your descendants by blood. So Sylvester could marry Rozemyne (though still a scandal), but she can't marry Bonifactus.

About body enhancement magic tools. The only condition was that it must touch a bare skin on her legs. Rozemyne could not put them on her ankles because of her attire (her socks were attached to her belt). They just got a small misunderstanding when Rozemyne assumed that magic tools can be put over clothes and Ferdinand assumed that Rozemyne was an exhibitionist :)

I believe Primivere always tells students to redo their greeting regardless of how well they do it the first time. The aim is to see how they react to being rebuked; those who step out of character before redoing the greeting get lower marks, while Rozemyne stuck to the scenario and kept going as if it were a real meaning with a royal (though she seems to forget the lesson when meeting actual royal). Other students will have allowed their expression to show some hint of annoyance at having "failed the greeting".
I managed to BS my way through a French exam by not breaking kayfabe, when the teacher said something incomprehensible I asked them (in French) to repeat the question more slowly. I suspect that anyone tripped up by the question who slipped into English will have received a lower grade.
I think Rozemyne fooled Professor Primivere with her "noble facade".
Even if she ever passed the lesson for royal greetings, she seems to not apply it at all because she always saw Anastasius as the dork he actually is no matter how large the differences between their statuses are.
I think it isn’t just that. But also to see if they are willing to put up with BS that the Royal may demand. Since “if the Royal want it, you have to do it.” So regardless if you do it right or wrong. You have to repeat your greeting as many times as the royal want you to. Even if they ask you to start making a fool of yourself, since it is a order from royalty, you *have* to do it.
The class was designed to throw archduke candidates off of their rhythm. Asentioned in the books these candidates aren't used to unreasonable demands or being thrown off script. The tea party was set up to add chaos to throw people off. Asking to repeat every greeting caused most of the candidates to crack under pressure amd show signs of stress or come close to lashing out.
Rozemyme passed because she didn't crack or lash out. To most archdukes this is new territory but to Rozemyne an unreasonable demand with an impossible deadline is a light breakfast at this point. Not only did she parse out the trick but she also handled the issues that arose without laying blame on the "royalty" instead shifting mistakes to the attendants when blame was necessary.

Her demeanor is no different from her past life, which means she's still the same Urano who acts like a child when she doesn't get what she wants, mainly books.

One of the best things out there!! Both the Bookworm series, AND these videos by Trash-Tier Waifu are pure gold, to be found with joy and hoarded in your vault of Precious things (yes, that was a Gollum reference).
I have collected and read every volume, but the details and connections are so many and multi-layered that the full depth of the series only comes out when it is deiscussed by multiple people... or, if you don't have a strong circle of fellow Bookworms to share with, then by watching an Arch-Scholar like this break-it-down in front of you. His comments are wonderful, his voice and delivery are great, and the "puppet theater" is not only amazing... the lines they say that are NOT from the books completely crack me up time and again. This is one of the favorite things in my world right now, has been for years, and I humbly petition you to continue to the very end. Praise be to the Gods! Having done the math thanks to a fanbook where the writer stated that a day in world is still 24 hours, at 10 bells a day that means each bell is 2 hours and 24 minutes.
The bells range from 2-3 hours each depending on time of year.

@@iarebuzz171 This is actually a detail that is pretty consistent with the traditional Japanese time system which split up the day into 6 periods, not only that but other cultures had similar timekeeping concepts as well which you can read more about if you look up terms such as "temporal hour" and "canonical hours." These timekeeping systems were based on when the sun rose/set as well as solar noon, so they're not as illogical as one might think. (Though they definitely had their issues.) In Bookworm's case for example, 4th bell is always noon regardless of what time of the year it is.
It was only recently that the modern world got on the same even times at all. Every town would be in their own zone. Some were rich enough to afford a clock so their hours were of a consistent rate, but they'd set it by using a sun dial on a random day and that's noon now no matter the time of year. Some had a community sundial. It was when they needed to standardize it for train routes that they finally made time keeping consistent. Compared to Earth several hundred years ago Yurgenschmit has very consistent time keeping.
Bells aren't equally spaced throughout the day. 1st bell is when the plebs get up to work, 4th bell is noon, 7th bell is evening.

But honestly love to compere this part of seers with Harry Potter, I mean its a magic school and i guese HP sat the stage of what a magic school is and feels like.
Yet Ascendance of a Bookworm really really shines in part 4.
Like part 1 to 3 was really just a intro to the magic school, and the school is so intersting becuse unlike HP it trully feels and acts like a school
I also tough about how one thing that really sets AOAB form most other fantasy world i seen is that it gets Nobles and rich people right. Alot of the time in practically most story you only see rich people flawed side. Becuse those that wrote them did not understand fully the easy thing is always to asume evil when someone dose something that seems mean you dont undstand.
What i mean is in AOAB we see the class system we get to undstand WHY the nobles do as they do, and we get to know that alot of the things at first glance seem like rich people being arrogant and abusing power, is in fact much more complex. And most of the time its not that the higher ranks just wish to do the stuff, but that the hole system force them to.
The lower ranks are not just doing stuff for the higher ranks because they forced to, but because everyone benefits if things are done in a certain way. In the end it all comes down to people needing jobs to earn money and protection from enemies.
Same with looks, higher ranks dont just look good because they want to display there wealth, sure thats part of it, but the reason is that you need to in order to survive in this world.
Its really in truth defense part of the constant plots that you either do or die, and thats all becuse they dont have a police force.
And it really shows how spoiled were are now days with a handy dandy government to be the rulers in eye level for all. Instead of you having to rely on you family and connections to keep you safe.
THATs what blew my mind in this story, Miya Kazuki really gets it, her world feels alive because every part of it put together in ways that are logical sensible.
Think it just might be the story with fewest plot holes ever, so far the only plot hole/ iusue i found with this world is the question of what commoner farm animals are, and why and how they seem different from fay beasts? so picks exist, but picks dont have mana? yet commoners do have mana, its just so litel you need blood for it. but then why do fay best melt when you hit there crystal? and do nobles also have crystal? do nobles melt?
From the looks of it, clearly now, because if you could just melt people there would be more protection and cultur around that... like there is with poisons.
So that hole thing really confuse me, but maybe there comes a explication.
Theres also the problem of magic being way to loosely defined, but thats becucuse magic is magic and would not be magic if we could explain it.
Also what is outside the country, and why dose the world rely on the use of mana? so yeah not really plot holes more plot dark spots.
And thats whats so amazing. I compere that to Harry Potter, a world i trully made my childhood, but the Harry Potter world really falls apart when you look at it to long.
Same can not be said about this story, this is almost not a magic story but perfect build engineering project. And now i rambled on to much again... god its hard to stop.

Gundolf is probably just a mutated Gandalf, there is no German here.
Primavera is Italian for Spring, so the author went into other languages as well.

Which is very much on the nose...
Some of them are just German names. I know someone in real life named Hirschur and another named Solange. The author certainly looked up meanings before deciding on names but didn't name everyone like a Japanese person.

Started reading light novel after finding your channel after anime ended at current volume. Waiting on volume 5 to release. On round 5 listening to LNs and round 3 on re-listening to this series.

I am a Harry Potter fan and thought that starting with the Goblet of Fire that all the movies should have been two part movies. Compared to the books, they were lacking. It’s like taking War and Peace and make a 1 hour 40 minute movie out of it. It would be lost in translation.
I love this channel and I think he does an excellent job but watching the video. Just my opinion, it seemed like he was rushing to finish. I’ve listened to all his Bookworm videos repeatedly and started to watch my Tanya the Evil, love that girl, videos. So, I’m a fan of his channel.
But this is just my opinion.

I feel as dense as Damuel for not realizing Detlinde was hitting on Willfried 🤢🤮 I just thought she was overly friendly to Willfried to spite Mine. But maybe I should questions Mines interpretation of events more. After all she is a very biased pov.
I’m not convinced she was actuall hitting on him. Maybe more she was trying to make a connection by taking advantage of her resemblance to Veronica, since I’m sure Georgine has told her. So just trying to get close. Either as a mother figure or whatever works. 😂
@@harshreality73 Nah, she wants to get into his pants. She's set to become the next Aub Ahrensbach, which is a problem for a woman. Finding a male archduke candidate from another duchy that's willing to let him go is a challenge at the best of times, and Yurgenschmidt is still in the midst of a mana shortage so it's even harder for female archduke candidates to assume the role. She (and most likely Georgine) see seducing Wilfried as the easiest way to secure Detlinde a husband since Ehrenfest would be in no position to refuse if he himself wanted to marry her. The fact that it would also serve as a massive "fuck you" against Sylvester is obviously a bonus in Georgine's eyes.
I interpret that first interaction by the fact that she got the Arenbach intel in which Rosemyne was actually an adopted common girl and that there was no way that she would actually talk to a common girl. And in the same way, adults told her to be sweet to Wilfried since he is husband material.
Detlinde’s fate was conditioned from the start.

It takes some 10 more volumes for this confusing line to get cleared up. One thing that is never stated, is that there are NO student black capes other than the actual royalty. So either the young royals are wandering around unprotected, or something isn't getting said.
When in the academy, the young royals rely on apprentice knights/scholars/attendants for various needs, just like the archduke candidates. However, all the students - even those raised in the sovereignty - go to their affiliate dorms. Thus, Anastasius' multi-colored "groupies" look at Rosemyne funny; she's a threat, and a mouthy one at that. This could have been cleared up by the end of her first year, but it seemed to have gotten forgotten until nearing fourth year when - redacted for spoilers - happens.

This has probably been mentioned at least ten thousand times, but could there be a more fitting name for a character than Fraualarm? Most of the names and magic words in these novels are German, and nothing fits this screaming banshee better than alarmed woman, or Frau Alarm. I get tickled every time I read it and I have read it several times! Great breakdown.
I love these huge overview recaps with animations to keep track of everything. Honestly academy life feels so rushed with them being able to just pass a class with no real education system from the teachers. I can't tell if its a writers ploy to just skim it for the sake of the story progression or if this was a legitimate process for education back in the past, or similar to.
Not to MENTION, We see all of Myne's entourage/attendants, but ... Where's Wilfreds??? Doesnt he need attendants? Also I thought Charlotte was in the same grade, where was she? (did i miss something?)
Charlotte is a year younger, so she's not there. As for Wilfried's attendants, I think them not being visible is mostly Rozemyne being an unreliable narrator and his voice being the only one which cuts through her obliviousness. That and he's not a borderline invalid like she is and so doesn't need constant babysitting just to ensure she doesn't get sick.
@@jakman2179 well it’s a little more of the former than the later lol. Wilfried is also constantly under watch (we remember what happened the last time he wasn’t) but also as an archduke candidate he’s basically required to always have at least 1 knight and 1 attendant pretty much at all times

Since rosemyne now has her wand -- will it allow her make invention prototypes magically ? ( Then she can say this is what I'm wanting .. now figure out how to make 10 for each printing location, with these parts metal, these wood, this part holding ink .... Etc.). .. & when will it cross her mind that commoners should be tested for mana quantity ( 1. To improve the country, 2. To eliminate "the devouring" ... )
I think Rozemyne would probably create a society where the Devouring children were treated with care and also raised in status because the Mana Shortage means that they will have to resort into adopting more Devouring children in order to strengthen the magical properties of the all the lands suffering from the Mana Shortage.

Ferdi is an urban legend in the academy, a mix between gigachad and sephiroth bishounen, every kid have an aunt or a cousin who heard a story about his crazy exploit. And it's always deeply biased by the duchy obsession...
