    Subjective tasting is what (for me) makes the bourbon journey so much fun!
    - Baker 7 drank too hot and sharp for the 1st half of the bottle. Then it turned to a really nice bourbon for me
    - Eagle Rare: I had 2 pours from my last bottle that were notably bitter on the finish. Wrote in my notebook "don't re-buy". But the other pours were really nice. On the fence re: re-buying
    - 4 Roses SB Select is one of my favorites, but I've had consecutive pours from the same bottle where 1 is just ok, and the next is literally angels singing and unicorns flying over rainbows. Perfection~
    Merry Christmas - keep up the great work

      The 4 Roses products for me, although n ot bad, just never sang my song. Love my Knob Creeks, especially the Single Barrel Store picks. and KC!2...

    This is some good advice. I bought a laphroaig 10 and for about a month every time I tasted it, it tasted like the smell of an oil burning on a hot engine. But after a while it tasted briny and smokey. Now I love a pour that I couldn’t stand at first. Keep up the great content.

      Thanks Robert! We really appreciate the kind words. We're in no way trying to be experts or even to appear like we know what we're talking about, but we definitely hope these blind tastings are entertaining (at worst) and informative (at best). Cheers and thanks for watching!

    Had both. I feel both are a bargain for $50-$55. The Knob Creek is way harder to find in my market but Rare Breed is pretty much always there. Therefore the Wild Turkey gets the edge, but both are DELICIOUS. This one was funny when Josh said "watch these be Rare Breed or something"......... damn that was good.

    So having both in my collection:
    -Rare Breed: Not bad, nothing particularly off putting for me, just doesn't come across to me as very complex. Vanilla, pepper, rye spice, maybe some light caramel, oak, and that's basically it for me. I want to get another bottle just to see if mine has gotten better with air vs a fresh crack or if maybe Rare Breed just isn't to my liking.
    -Knob Creek Single Barrel: Syrupy mouthfeel, caramel, vanilla, cherry, cinnamon and other baking spices, rye spice, oak, personally no bitterness on this one for me, just outstanding Kentucky bourbon. In my "only 5 bottles" lineup, this is my Friday night pour, because it's a great pour to kick off the weekend, it's reasonably priced, and it's readily available in my area.
    Also I thought ya'll might be interested in knowing that both of these pours apparently have the same mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley.

    I love Knob Creek Single Barrel. You're right about keeping a bottle for a while. It was sharp at first, but opened and allowed to breath it loses it's sharpness and really flowers. I've not had a bourbon that needed so long to open before this. Worth the wait

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rare Breed is the king for us at $60 or less, and it's even been preferable to our palates over some wildly allocated pours like Stagg Jr and George T Stagg. • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t come across that way to us that we can recall. Dry to our palates is a lot of drying oak on extra aged pours or a thinness on extra young pours, and Rare Breed being a 6-12 year blend is a nice middle ground.
