The lack of proof hurts the Baker’s 13. If both were 120 proof I think the increased age would benefit the Baker’s, but it obviously comes at an increased cost.
If you want to explore home blends, try KC single barrel/select mixed with KC 12. 3:1 parts for 115 proof. So mix 3 parts KC single, to 1 part KC 12, at any volume. I use Milliliters. Enjoy all your content! Hope everyone is well .
Carmel Creams are the candies you are referencing, Josh. They actually make a good accompaniment to the right pour of bourbon. I fondly remember looking forward to my grandmother's homemade versions after Christmas dinner. I very much enjoy watching you and Erin review bourbon. Keep up the great work, you two!
I'm a huge Jim Beam flavor profile fan, and there is no doubt that the 120 proof KC single barrels are the absolute best value in proof & flavor in the whole line-up. I have had several bottles of Booker's and Baker's 7yr, and I will still buy and drink those, but it's hard to beat what you get with the KC SiB releases. I also just stumbled upon a Baker's 13yr at MSRP, which is a unicorn bottle for me, so I'm glad to hear it still gets approval from y'all.
First off, great notes...(you had me at "krispy kreme"). I would love your opinion on mine -- I have learned that whatever experience you have is almost always a reflection of expectations. The nose of a bourbon/whiskey is your friend telling you that this restaurant is the best place you'll ever eat at. Your pallet is you actually going there and judging it based upon their opinion. Idea! Reverse the expectations by tasting first and nosing second. I find when I do this, I get aromas that are vastly different than the traditional way. Just my 2 cents (feel free to give me change back). Cheers!
You've got some fair points for sure. We still always like to start with the nose, but we're also taking breaks and revisiting over and over again to try to get a proper opinion on what we're tasting--and in doing that, we do start with the palate first many times.
I managed to get a Baker’s 13, very good whiskey. I also have a Baker’s 7 that’s 8 years 11 months that’s almost as good. I always keep a Knob Creek Single Barrel around. Great comparison today
Knob Creek single barrel store picks are great for the price. A local store did picks of the bourbon and the rye that turned out very well. I've also seen them at the big chain stores, and I must admit that I'm tempted to pick up some of them too so that I can see how it varies from barrel to barrel.
So interesting that many people agree that Bakers 13 smells amazing but lets things down on the palate. I certainly feel that way. Too watered down for those particular barrels I guess.
Fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts are great. The glazed are fantastic. However, the strawberry filled with vanilla icing on top are life changing, especially when fresh out of the oven!!!!
Great show as always! I once tried the Knob Creek Single Barrel back in 2016. It drank well beyond its proof, and the pallet didn't appeal to me. I'll stay with the Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. I can't help but hear y'all affectionately refer to our friends in low places, SLB. Cheers!
I like Knob Creek Single Barrel, but it does need to open for a while, even if the bottle has been open for a while. It is not an everyday pour for me either.
Erin, you sound JUST like me sister! OMG. She is not an auditory learner. So unless she deems a discussion as important, she’ll converse, but won’t bother to log it into long term memory.
Hard to beat those KC single barrels... We just did a KC pick that's 10 years old and I'd put it up against just about anything blind, and it's in middle Tennessee 😁 Great video as always 🥃
Bakers 13 was one I was super excited to try as a big fan of Beam products and it was super disappointing for me when I had a pour. The bottle I tried was the most over-oaked bottle I've ever had made KC18 (which I love) seem like a 4 year old bottle in comparison. Love every KC9 SiB I've ever had though hope those never go away
Awesome head to head.i love both KC and Bakers single barrels. I know single barrels differ but got me curious to which barrel, which warehouse or what floor in the warehouse. Sorry, I’m always fascinated by it. Cheers
Great video, as always! The KC profile hasn’t been my absolute favorite, but I can appreciate the value of the KC Single Barrel. Have you found a lot of variance between KC Single Barrels? Or, have they generally been pretty similar? Cheers
Good question. They’re all within the same base foundational profile, but we definitely see a lot of variance in how the notes of fruit (if there are any at all), vanilla, caramel, nuttiness, spice and heat/proof are presented. Our favorite picks tend to be the ones with dark fruit and amplified vanilla that are also dialed back on the nuttiness.
Does Dunkin even make donuts anymore? Krispy Kreme for the win for sure! I’m a big fan of all Jim Beam products. I have never tried Bakers 13, but Bakers 7 is like my favorite. Those KC single barrels are killer though. I wonder how the Bakers and KC 12 would compare, closer in proof and age. I’m pretty sure they are all the same mash bill, I wonder if they change the barrel entering proof or anything between different products
Nice matchup! Never had the 13yr but I do have 4 KC store picks that are awesome along with the 1/4 oak, 9, 12, and 18yr and they are all hitters IMO! Cheers!
I remember a candy called moo cows I think? The caramel creams were always sold in the grocery store bulk area when I was a kid in the sixties. Oh well:) Cheers
I have a question about doing barrel picks ... When doing a pick, do you usually know the *age* of the barrel -- or can you find that out -- *prior to* selecting a barrel? The reason I ask has to do with the Knob Creek 120 barrel picks I see in the market. Almost everything is 9 1/2 years old. Never see anything 10 or over (though I've heard 10 and 11 *are* found out there on rare occasion).
Good question. Sometimes that information is available, but even if it is, we never ask and prefer to select blind. We simply go in to pick the best barrel possible, and knowing the ages of the barrels in the pick could skew us one direction or the other. Knob Creek has reduced the age of all their picks to that 9.5-10 year range though as they've put out the age stated 12, 15, and 18 year releases as well as all the Hardin's Creek stuff.
Before I even start the video I can tell that it'll take some fantastic whisky to beat a Knob Creek single barrel. I'm on my third bottle of a store pick from Kelly Liquors here in Albuquerque, and it's better than some more expensive stuff I've had samples of. The bottle's $57, and worth at least $10 more. I'm glad they don't charge more, though, 'cause if they did I couldn't afford it. 🥃 2:20 Erin, have you been watching @SLBDrinks? 😂 4:29 I hate to say it 'cause I'm a Southern boy, but I've had plenty of donuts that are noticeably better than Krispy Kreme. I'll take Dunkin' Donuts any day, and Winchell's is even better than that. Krispy Kreme is the Blanton's of donuts - good, but nowhere near equal to the hype.
Guessing is definitely fun, but I actively try to avoid it on these tastings because I'm almost always wrong 😂 and as soon as I think I know what it might be, that sways my bias one way or the other in a lot of cases.
It would just be a different video altogether in many ways I think. I’d already have the price, so that would be a huge clue if I used it to inform my guess, and I’d probably start thinking about what’s in the pool as well, which would take away some of my unbiased-ness and surprise on the reveal. The only real benefit would be guessing correctly from time to time, but it would come at the cost of my surprise on reveal (and frankly would be a lot less fun for me personally too). The middle ground feels like giving “comps” of bottles that spring to mind with similar experiences or giving a price ballpark before the price reveal. I do that now from time to time, but it’s less a guess, and more of a comparison to an equivalent experience.
@@stuffandwhiskey Totally get that. Just personally enjoy your thought process and seeing you nail it on the bottle guesses from time to time. Keep up the awesome content though. Love it!
Never had the Baker’s 13 but man I love those Knob Creek Single Barrels

The true test of a bakery is a vanilla cake donut with chocolate frosting. Krispy Kreme glazed are practically in their own category.
Carmel Creams are the candies you are referencing, Josh. They actually make a good accompaniment to the right pour of bourbon. I picked up a KC single barrel at Costco for around $44. Definitely a great value.
I found one at Sam's Club for $44....Definitely the best deal in bourbon.... It's delicious!
I’m right there with ya. Knob and Bakers are not in my main wheelhouse but on occasion they are something I enjoy. Great video as always!
The Knob Creek Single Barrel is on sale at Woodman's for $39.99. Going tomorrow
I managed to get a Baker’s 13, very good whiskey. I also have a Baker’s 7 that’s 8 years 11 months that’s almost as good. I always keep a Knob Creek Single Barrel around. Great comparison today
Agree with Josh - not even up for debate, Krispy Kreme all day long and twice on Sunday.
I'm a big knob creek single fan I really enjoy JB. And WT so both are in my wheelhouse. And I will always be a fan of what they bring. Enjoy!!
I like the mom-and-pop donut shops!
Krispy Kreme hands down! No contest! Saying Baker's 13 year is like Krispy Kreme may make me pay the price for it.

Who y’all kidding, us Nashvillians know it’s Five Daughters all day! Krispy Kream and Dunkin’ are dead.

It's a very real phenomenon!

Krispy Kreme all the way, but only straight off the line. If you've had it fresh and hot, nothing else compares.

I miss the outtakes. KCSB store picks are starting to show up again in the 10-11 range lately.
We just stopped cutting the outtakes and sticking them at the end. We leave everything in throughout the video now.

Goetze's Caramel Creams
I've never tried KC SiB, only KC SiB Select - which is my favorite bourbon ever. Maybe I should try the regular KC SiB one day? Hmmm...
Knob Creek SiB are always spectacular
I remember a candy called moo cows I think? The caramel creams were always sold in the grocery store bulk area when I was a kid in the sixties. Oh well:) Cheers
Krispy Kreme glazed donuts make a great burger bun.
I do Dunkin for coffee, not donuts.
KC single barrel store picks are hard to top for the money.
I love the Knob Creek Single Barrel store picks! I agree amazing bang for the buck!
KK doughtnuts for me especially when hot sign on!

Krispy Kreme > Dunkin’
Knob Creek > Baker’s
Erin I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I often in winter have with hot chocolate with Kaluha. Maybe will add honey to the mix.
I love little book and bookers, i like regular Jim bean. I can’t stand knob creak . I know weird right, I don’t understand either

We cannot agree with that take on Krispy Kreme, but the rest we can get behind!
@@stuffandwhiskey Well, bless y'all's hearts. 😍
They're Caramel Creams.
Thinking man's donut...yes..yes
Krispy Kreme glazed is HOF compared to DD.
Shipley's in Mississippi, Krumpe's in Western Maryland. Krispy Cream and Dunkins nowhere close.
We’ve got Shipley’s here in TN and they’re quite good. Definitely better than Dunkin. There’s just something about Krispy Kreme for us though.
Ooo was the an SLB Drinks reference I heard?
Not intentionally, as we're actually not sure what the reference in question is, but Kurt and Trenton are good folks!
You need to come to central PA and sample the Amish and Mennonite donuts😋
I would like to see Josh bottle guess prior to revealing. Could be good practice for Matt Madness, too.

WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
I prefer Dunkin EXCEPT glazed…KK ftw
Krispy Kreme all day!!!!
You thinking of Rolos candy Josh?
I was overcomplicating it. 😂 They're just called caramel cremes.
@@stuffandwhiskey You overthinking something?? Naaaaa 🤣😂🤣😂
Krispy Kreme all day! But what about Five Daughters Bakery... 😊
Top tier elite level! 🤤
Krispy Kreme> Duncan ALL DANG DAY
Dunkin is awful. They don't even make theirs fresh onsite.
Krispy Kreme buy a mile!!
Both doughnut's suck. Change my mind. 🤪
What!? A fresh Krispy Kreme is so good, but nostalgia is strong with us on those.
