Currently own a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 cc that I have had for 20 years. Once took me 120 miles on one cylinder at highway speed when one spark plug wire crapped out on a Sunday morning with no shops open. At almost 70 years old it has gotten too heavy to maneuver in and out of situations. Purchased a 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone at more than 100 pounds less wet weight. Absolutely love it. Will stay with Moto Guzzi for the rest of my riding life. I have owned BMW, Laverda, Ducati, Moto Morini, Triumph, BSA, Zundapp, Indian, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Cagiva and loved them all for different reasons, but the fact that I can physically handle the weight of a bike that will cruise (illegally) at 85-90 mph for as long as I need, looks good, is reliable and affordable and unique, why shop anywhere else?- -Mike Battle
For me Guzzi V7 is the best. I owned the Bonneville but I prefer the Guzzi (the bike I currently drive) because of its character, style, solidity and sound. Easy to maintain. It is also more genuine, 100% italian bike. Triumph are manufactured in Thailand now. The interceptor, I don't know, because I got the V7 first ;-)
If I may say and not to challenge you or anything like that, just to be fair a lot of Yamaha's and other bikes are built in Thailand but they are designed buy the manufacture in country of origin such as Japan and England its the labor is brokered out not anything else, this is so we can afford them :-). Royals are Made in India and is an Indian owned manufacture, however the engine designers were sniped Triumph Engineers by Royal Enfield and the frame was designed by Harris performance a British Racing engineer company purchased by Royal Enfield I'm guessing almost 10 years ago, not sure when Harris got bought by Royal Enfield.
I have owned all 3. I had a 2010 Bonneville and have a new speed twin 900. The new one is markedly superior in engine performance , ride and handling--it's totally different. I had a 2018 V7 and had the oppurtunity to put about 100 miles of vigorous riding on a new V7 850 , and again the new one is vastly better than the prior . I 've had a Royal Enfield 650 interceptor which is very pretty and an excellent value for the cost but inferior in handling, engine performance, brakes to the new versions of the V7 and Bonnevile. Therefore the comparisons of these older bikes is not valid with respect to the latest models, only valid if comparing various out of date used bikes
Thanks for sharing those experiences, and yes, the entire point is to compare various second hand motorcycles that can all be purchased for roughly the same affordable price of $3650 or less. PS: I brought up your comment in my livestream tonight. You can check out the clip here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html (might need to skip ahead 10 seconds or so)
Subscribed and looking forward to the series. One thing I will point out right away that is kind of obvious is that at the end of the day certain bikes are going to call out to individual riders...everyone is different....regardless of what the specs are on each bike....all 3 are great bikes imo.
You're absolutely right. The Interceptor and the Bonneville are more similar, which makes them easier to choose between, because one is much better (and also pricier) than the other. So that really comes down to if you want to pay more to get better or not. But the V7 and Bonneville are very different. I shared your comment on my livestream tonight. The clip is here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
I just bought a brand-new Royal Enfield Super Meteor. I am mainly interested to see how well the interceptor compares to the other bikes. At 350 miles that means the interceptor has just had is first serves done. I would make sure it was done at the very least make sure the valves were checked. The 648CC Royal Enfield engine according to my manual is supposed to have an oil change and valve adjustment at 300 miles. I am rooting for the Interceptor just my personal preference.
Congrats on the Super Meteor! I shared your comment in my live stream tonight here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html - How is your Super Meteor doing? Have you been able to ride it a lot or is it winter where you are?
@YouMotorcycle I have put about 70 miles on it. I de winterized it and and now it's snowing. So far I am loving it. I put three clicks of preload on the rear shocks and it smooth out compared to how it was stock.
Interesting, but aside from the Enfield, the Bonneville has been upgraded several times. The Guzzi is nearly completely changed from the 2013. They received a 6 speed gearbox for one thing and the 850 version is far more competitive in horsepower to the Bonneville and had an enormously improved suspension, so except for the fact that its a v-twin, its now totally different. Having said all of this, I look forward to your observations.
Hey Thomas, thanks, yup, whole idea is to compare the used bikes for those of us who don't like buying brand new. Just letting you know I acknowledged your message on my livestream today: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
I put a 150 rear tire on my 2012 Bonnie standard and it changed the cornering dramatically. Just a tip for your improvement. The person I sold it to had a neutral light switch go bad on him soon after he bought it. It is located right beside the oil drain plug. So you have to drain the oil to change it. Easy to do and a cheap fix.
Hey naturalforlife, great comment. I just shared it in my livestream I did earlier tonight. See here for the exact time of your comment: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html Would you mind explaining more what you mean about the switch? I don't remember there being anything by the drain plug.
The V7 750 engine is a bit down on power than the new 850 model, but I'm still amazed at the prices you paid for the 3 bikes. Should be interesting to here your review but for me there can be only one winner and that's Moto Guzzi. Still it will be interesting to here how a possible stolen / recovered V7 gets on, hopefully there won't be any reliability issues due to damage.
Hey Paul, thanks for the comment. I shared it in my livestream this evening. Here's a little update on how the V7's been so far: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Ive got a beater V7 also... I had to replace the wheels from damage but got spoked 19/17. Revalved the forks, knock off ohlins and its been awesome. Mini adventure bike that I won't get upset if i drop it and its super fun to ride.
Hey, just shared your comment on my livestream. Can you tell me more about the knock off ohlins please? What are they? Were they worthwhile? th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
The Moto Guzzi v7 is a Heron head version. As an owner of a 2015 Mag wheeled Bonneville (865), a Thruxton 900 (also 865), Kawasaki w800 Cafe and now a Moto Guzzi V7 850 (Hemi head). The V7 hands down! The older Heron head 750 will be interesting to see how it stacks up overall.
Final video of the series (review of both the Bonneville 865 and the V7 750 I motorcycles) is coming out tomorrow! th-cam.com/video/hUj8GxB29O4/w-d-xo.html
I bought the Royal Enfield Super, 650 Meteor, which I kept for a year, I noticed that the welds were not finished, the cables are visible too much. Three months ago, I bought the triumph 900 street it is more finished, OK it is more expensive and so far no problem that is my experience
Hey there. Sometimes it makes more sense to spend a little more. I shared your comment and talked about this in my livestream tonight: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html PS: Not sure if you've been keeping up with the series, but I came to the conclusion that I wish Royal Enfield had charged about $500 more for the 650, and put it towards better fit and finish!
I'd have to admit being 'Late to the table' on this, but you did some fine 'wheeling & dealing'' to get the prices worked into your budget. Plus, it's an interesting line up for comparison, as most guys have asked themselves questions about the Bonnie vs the Royal End. well anyway, I have. Not the Guzzi so much, see with it in the test, that feeling of, "Maybe I should throw in a Ducati, to be fair" etc.. *Warning* BC once, 'that' whole theory of 'Add another bike to be fair'' takes over, and as "that" just turns into 'More Bikes in the test', it 100 % overwhelms me, and then, my own comparison test dies. Yet you've avoided that, and now Bro', you being off to a good start with your choices etc., it's all done, I'm late yes, but you've caught my eye again. TY.
Great idea for a video! I'll be watching intently. The problem with your Guzzi though is it has the older 750 engine vs the new 850 making a lot more power and torque. Too bad you couldn't have picked up one of the newer ones.
I think the 750 Guzzi is a more fair comparison, more similar tech as it is to the other 2 bikes. I own 2 of the 3 bikes he is testing and depending how hard to test bikes for handling that Triumph is going loose it just wallows at high speed through curves, my Royal hands way better and I'm guessing the Guzzi will handle better than the Royal but who knows maybe now, this is going to be a great show.
When U discuss the generation of the engine U have to look at the new Triumph from 2016 onwards. I owned a 2011 Bonnie and though I loved it.... handling is not a strong point of the Bonnie. The engine is 'enough' in nearly every aspect....but nowhere top.
Thanks Robby. I did the best I could! I shared your comment in my livestream earlier tonight. You can check out the clip about it here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Ok, you have my attention, you are a GTA Guy, hard to find Canadian Motorcycle Vloggers. I also have a GT 650 RE that I bought from Classy Chassis and I have a 2012 Bonneville SE, same Rims as the one you have and I love V7's and would love to get one, so this is going to be a particular great series, you have my attention. I would so like to know how you got these bikes so inexpensively, good job on picking them up. I love most of the retro bikes, not terribly fond of the Kawi RS's and the Yamaha Retro's but love the W800 and 650, I have had many 2 stroke vintage bikes but have been recently selling them off I only kept a 1973 Yamaha RD350 as it was one of my first resto mods and I currently have a project 82 Katana 750, I'll get to it sometime soon :-). Anyway buddy great to see a fellow GTA person and love the subject keep this going, looking so forward to this group of Video's Cheers Karl Squire.
I believe the V7 just past its scheduled maintenance mileage which includes adjusting/checking the valves. You may want to verify that it was done. Looking forward to seeing the comparison of these 3 bikes (more in stock form than modified.)
I shared this in my livestream tonight, thank you! They'll get some little mods, but hopefully just tasteful ones haha. Here's the clip from the live stream - it should start about 5-10 seconds after this: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Older second hand bikes can have loads of issues depending on owner history and servicing. For that reason my pick is the Enfield. Looks a good buy. For character it's the the Guzzi. For performance its the Triumph
isn't he going for best over all bike, I'm thinking best over all as long as the guzzi is running properly and I think he will make sure all bikes are running as they should, I think the Guzzi will be best over all but I have never ridden a Guzzi I own a Royal and a Bonneville. you are right in terms of power the Triumph but it is the biggest displacement of all the bikes.
I think you're right on the money with your assessment, BMUK. Unfortunately the RE was a let down :( I shared your comment on my livestream tonight here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Nice! Congrats! I was almost going to buy a Speed 400 just to make a bunch of content on it but I have too many projects on the go already. More on that here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
I was in a bike shop that had all three modles and i asksed the sales lady there who was a keen motorcyclist which one she preferred and she said the guzzi was her fav😊
@@YouMotorcycle she had triump ducati, royal enfield and moto guzzi as well as some Japanese models so she so I don't see why she would want to lie about that as it didn't matter to her what bike you went for ,anyway as I was interested in both triump and the guzzi I just wanted to know her fav
It's true. Personal preference really is everything. Maybe not so much between the Bonneville and the Interceptor, as those are quite similar, but the V7 vs the Bonneville, those two are very different. Thanks for the comment. I addressed it in my livestream tonight here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
It's like a Jeep Wrangler... not really a great SUV, but so iconic it just holds its value really well. I shared this comment and talked a bit about it here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Be sure to include the cost of doing at least the mandatory initial valve tappet check/adjust. Hint: It is dead simple to do it yourself on the RE. The other two bikes not so much. Also, a mpg comparison from FUELY could be included.
@@MotorcycleWrites I don't know that it is, unless perhaps it is shims that need changing which incudes camshaft(s) removal and reinstall. The RE is simple screw and locknut.
@@doughoffman9463 that’s what I was thinking. RE is good about making maintenance easy but you can’t really get easier than having the top of the cylinder poking out of the bike.
I believe it’s a great idea for a series of videos but it gets handicapped by the different ages and conditions of the bikes. It would have been wonderful to have brand new one and be able to fully compare them. I understand money is an important constraint though… 😊
@@punkrockdidi that's so strange, sorry to hear it. My V7 had no rust at all aside from 3-4 bolts that could probably be replaced for $30 if they really bothered me.
Hey there! Yes and no. There are a lot of ways to keep those costs down, especially over the winter months where insurance companies in ontario pro-rate insurance and will refund you if you cancel before spring. more on that here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
I am not sure but is that a 750cc V7 ? Guzzi do not make the 750 now , they use an 853cc engine taken from the TT85 , which has 25% more power , an upgraded frame , better electronics , etc . The bikes look the same to be honest , but cannot be compared in reality .
LOL. I can honestly say it's one of a kind! Edit: Here's a little more background on the crackhead theft recovery story of the Moto Guzzi: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
lmao, hey John, I brought up your comment tonight in my livestream. I think it was maybe 10 seconds after this: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Those prices are more common than you think. Always be open for whatever deals you can come across. Here are a couple recent ones that were on my watch list: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Hahaha. Royal Enfield did an ad where they stated how many grains of rice were eaten at one of their factory every year, I guess to be funny... A little tribute to their joke :) Final video of the series (review of both motorcycles) is coming out tomorrow! th-cam.com/video/hUj8GxB29O4/w-d-xo.html
None of them..i have been where are you..the whole industry is making fools out of us by selling us twins, V2 and V4 these engines are extremely unrefined pieces of shit in my opinion..twins feel lumpy the cross plane firing makes it less obvious but they still are lumpy..V2 and V4 design are inherently flawed as the cylinder block closer to the rider doesn’t get enough air and throws all the heat into the rider’s body..the best engines with smooth refined power delivery..no hint of lumpiness are triples and the older traditional in-line fours..again the CP4 in-line fours sound and feel like raspy like tractors..if you are looking for a modern retro then your best options are a XSR900 or Kawasaki Z900RS..take a test ride and you will see what i meant..stay away from twins and CP4 garbage
If you want refined get yourself a electric bike. If on the other hand wish to experience character then a twin will do that very well for you. You call it lumpy we call it character.
Better Get use to the Idea of parallel Twins, they are all going that way for emissions reasons, so is lower HP but higher Torque at lower RPM is what we have to look forward to that is more fun anyway. I really miss 2 strokes.
I'm totally the opposite and love the big lumpy v twin in my guzzi V11 and now find in line 4 cylinder bikes rather bland and lacking in instant grunt. The 3 cylinder in my triumph is OK but not as engaging as the guzzi. I tried the z900 expecting to love it but it felt like it needed another couple of gears - very revvy!!
Interesting take. All my videos are shot with a Z900RS behind me, and I think the XSR900 motor is my favorite motorcycle engine today. My perfect motorcycle would probably be a Z900RS with an XSR900 motor and tech shoved in it, so we have some similar tastes, but, truthfully, I'm probably way less picky and will ride any motor config. I just rode across Italy on a thumper (single cylinder) haha Edit: PS I shared your comment here in my live stream tonight: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
People like lumpy. I’ve a few Moto Guzzi’s and never had any heat thrown up on me. In fact the air cooled Guzzi threw less heat on he rider than any liquid cooled four cylinder I’ve ever rode. And I’ve owned over 40 motorcycles and have to say. Twins and triples are my favourite, four cylinder bikes are boring as shit. Each to their own but you’re wrong about heat with the Guzzi that’s for sure…
Sorry to keep ya waiting! Finally addressed why there was no W800 added to this series in my livestream tonight th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
I don’t believe the prices. Neat concept but unless these are auction buys, the BS makes a cool ideal grating. However you’re pitching to fools and dreamers not adults and riders… I love the bikes brothers, three magnificent choices. 🎉
First, I think you should check out this clip where I referenced your comment, here: th-cam.com/users/liveda8G8pn2wqI?si=9OmiG6WwjhuQlvMz&t=1029 Second here's an Interceptor 650 that just sold in Cleveland two weeks ago when I was in town for a night. Seller was asking only $350 more than I bought my Interceptor for, and his only had 1,100 miles and was cleaner: facebook.com/marketplace/item/1190012925719764/?ref=saved&referral_code=null Third, just so you don't think that's a one off, here's an RE 650 that's 'low mileage' that you can still buy for $4k or less right now: facebook.com/marketplace/item/946987976864072/?ref=saved&referral_code=null There are lots of great deals out there. Just because you aren't getting them, doesn't mean no one else is. What would I possibly benefit by telling lies about the price I paid? It wouldn't change the series or benefit anyone at all.
Correct. The whole point is to review the used motorcycles. I shared your comment in my livestream tonight, you should check out the clip: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html

I shared your comment and talked about this in my livestream tonight: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
PS: Not sure if you've been keeping up with the series, but I came to the conclusion that I wish Royal Enfield had charged about $500 more for the 650, and put it towards better fit and finish!
TY.
Hey Mark, thanks for all your support over the years. Gave you a special shout out here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
@@karlsquire8148 I want a new V7 btw. With the 850! Gorgeous bike!
Hey Karl, I shed some light on your question in my livestream tonight here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Great idea, but no matter what you do, a Bonneville will always be the Bonneville, and that’s the one I will own. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
Thanks! "A Bonneville will always be a Bonneville" - true! I talk about that (and your comment) here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Bought a brand new Triumph for $3500 as my second bike and I’m loving this cute little beauty..
It’s Speed 400 !!
Nice!
And the lady trying to sell something never lies! lol

They are all good, each have thier own points whats besf for you may not uite me , i would go for tge triumph

Thank you very much for the kind words. I shared your comment in my livestream tonight here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
A Bonneville will always be a Bonneville and keep its value!
LOL I have a Bonneville, that is true about keeping value but I'm confused, I don't know why lolololol, its a good bike but not a great bike lol
The valves are sticking out the sides on the moto guzzi. Why do you think it’s difficult?
@@MotorcycleWrites I don't know that it is, unless perhaps it is shims that need changing which incudes camshaft(s) removal and reinstall. The RE is simple screw and locknut.
@@doughoffman9463 same as Guzzi, plus very easy access
@@de-vil Thanks for that. Guzzi is easiest, RE almost as easy, Triumph is hardest.
@@doughoffman9463 that’s what I was thinking. RE is good about making maintenance easy but you can’t really get easier than having the top of the cylinder poking out of the bike.
i want them all 3 too ..

I believe it’s a great idea for a series of videos but it gets handicapped by the different ages and conditions of the bikes. It would have been wonderful to have brand new one and be able to fully compare them. I understand money is an important constraint though… 😊
Hey Fady, it sure is! I mentioned your comment in my livestream tonight. Here's the link to the exact moment: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
If you don't want th V7, can I have it? You don't mind paying to have it shipped to the UK, do you?
If this channel ever gets to the point where I can justify giving motorcycles away for free, I promise I'll try to give em! haha
Loved my v7 but the quality wasn't there,it was rusting after 6 months and intake good care of my bikes
@@punkrockdidi that's so strange, sorry to hear it. My V7 had no rust at all aside from 3-4 bolts that could probably be replaced for $30 if they really bothered me.
Let's go Guzzi hools! 😊
It's in the finals!
The cost to register, pay HST/GST and insure 3 bikes in Ontario would cost a few grand.
Hey there! Yes and no. There are a lot of ways to keep those costs down, especially over the winter months where insurance companies in ontario pro-rate insurance and will refund you if you cancel before spring. more on that here: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Technically speaking I would have gone for the V7, but I ride the Bonneville for the look.
Series finale is coming out tomorrow and I'll share which is the better retro motorcycle, and why :) th-cam.com/video/hUj8GxB29O4/w-d-xo.html
I am not sure but is that a 750cc V7 ? Guzzi do not make the 750 now , they use an 853cc engine taken from the TT85 , which has 25% more power , an upgraded frame , better electronics , etc . The bikes look the same to be honest , but cannot be compared in reality .
Yup, thank you. Luckily I got to spend a few days on a 2023 V7. You can see my thoughts here th-cam.com/video/17Eeco3AQ8c/w-d-xo.html
Go figure, I bought my Interceptor from Classy Chassis. Good guys over there.
I bought my GT 650 form Classy Chassis as well, they are good guys over there.
The whole team at Classy Chassis is great!
Even where you're from, when you add up the cost of all 3 motorcycles brand new, you could not buy even 1 of them in Singapore 😥
Wow! Must be a lot of import tariffs there?
When are you booked in to test ride the Super Meteor?
AFAIK I should be good to test ride it by May!
V7 for me, the 850cc, not the 750cc.
Not one of the options I had at a $3,250 price limit for this series unfortunately lol
Is the crackhead edition a limited model? 😂
LOL. I can honestly say it's one of a kind!
Edit: Here's a little more background on the crackhead theft recovery story of the Moto Guzzi: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
Who in the world would steal a Guzzi ? Perhaps they thought that because it was a Guzzi that nobody in their right mind would come looking for it ?
Clearly you haven't seen the light, maybe someday you'll awaken. I own a V7 and Griso, both have been flawless.
Lots of people... They look good, are made well and are fun to ride.

Those prices are more common than you think. Always be open for whatever deals you can come across. Here are a couple recent ones that were on my watch list: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
So new still smells like curry 🍛.😂😂😂
Hahaha. Royal Enfield did an ad where they stated how many grains of rice were eaten at one of their factory every year, I guess to be funny... A little tribute to their joke :)

I just rode across Italy on a thumper (single cylinder) haha
Edit: PS I shared your comment here in my live stream tonight: th-cam.com/video/da8G8pn2wqI/w-d-xo.html
You forgot to get a W800.
Lol yes. And trust me, I'm very upset about it haha. I'll expand on that in a future video.

Second here's an Interceptor 650 that just sold in Cleveland two weeks ago when I was in town for a night. Seller was asking only $350 more than I bought my Interceptor for, and his only had 1,100 miles and was cleaner:

Third, just so you don't think that's a one off, here's an RE 650 that's 'low mileage' that you can still buy for $4k or less right now:

There are lots of great deals out there. Just because you aren't getting them, doesn't mean no one else is. What would I possibly benefit by telling lies about the price I paid? It wouldn't change the series or benefit anyone at all.
What a waste of time. A 2023 V7, T100, or RE 650 INT have been changed a lot since your old bikes.
